Brick images

Hey,
making a breakout clone, four players, over a network. But i was wondering, is there a faster way to draw and redraw the 'ball' and paddles than just drawing a rectangle and square? im worried about performance issues over a network, so i need to find a way to make it draw all the objects as fast as possible.

First, how fast each client renders a particular frame should have little/no effect on network performance. The two should not be tied together.
To answer your question, you can create images for both the paddles and ball which would not only allow for nicer looking graphics, but should be faster as well.

  • How to add my brickwall behind the two cartoon characters here?

I think actually showing the brickwall and then the two characters underneath
it will help you understand my Photoshop 6.0 question much easier. These are two separate fil
es. So let's say I open the two cartoon characters, then open the brockwall file, how to
get it BEHIND, or in back of these two? Step by step process would be great....I tried but am
frustrated. Keep in mind, both are separate files.

Here's one quick way of many, many possibilities:
    1.  Open your brick image.  I'm assuming this is an image with just the brick wall as large or larger than the comic.
    2.  Open your comic.
    3.  Select the "Magic Wand" selection tool.
    4.  Set the options for the Magic Wand tool (at the top of the Photoshop window) to Tolerance 3, Contiguous and Anti-Aliased.
    5.  Click the Magic Wand tool in the white background above the characters, outside the speech balloon.
    6.  Choose Select - Inverse from the menu (or press Ctrl-Shift-I).
    7.  Choose Edit - Copy from the menu (or press Ctrl-C).
    8.  Make the brick image document current.
    9.  Choose Edit - Paste from the menu (or press Ctrl-V).
What you have done is made an irregular selection of just the characters, copied those pixels inside the selection, and pasted them as a new layer (with some pixels transparent) over a layer containing the brick wall background.

  • My iPhone 4S went into lock-up with a screen display image of USB connector pointing to iTunes logo. I took it to a Verizon store and they said I have a brick lock and that only an Apple retail store 50 miles away could clear it

My iPhone 4S went into lockup with a screen displaying an image of the USB connector pointing to the iTunes logo. I was traveling and took the phone to the closest Verizon store. The store informed me that I had a brick lock and that only an Apple retail store could unlock the phone. The Verizon store explained that they have seen this problem with SEVERAL other 4S users who had upgraded to the new iOS7 operating system and that to their knowledge it is too demanding to work on pre-iPhone 5S phones having a far less capable processor. The closest Apple store was 50 miles away in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania. I went to that store three days later (today) to reset the phone before flying out of Philadelphia Intl. Airport. The Apple store personnel were overloaded and not sensitive to my plight. They told me that I would have to make a reservation for a time 2 hours later for tech support. I couldn't do that without missing my flight - out of luck until I get back to Los Angeles. If the Verizon store explanation is true, Apple needs to accommodate 4S and earlier generation users and not force them to upgrade to a $459 iPhone 5S!

The salesperson at Verizon has no clue what their saying.
My 4S and many of my friends works perfectly fine on IOS 7.3, no issue as all.

I want to move a selection (a person) into an image of a brick wall and have it look like the person was painted on the wall. Can it be done? Using CC on iMac. Thanks

Yes of course its Photoshop. Cut the person out copy to clipboard paste onto toe brick wall document  and texture the layer using a displacement map for the brick wall. Look for Photoshop tutorials on using a displacement map.

  • PSE 11/Win 7: Can I create an image of the front of our house all in brick?

    PSE 11 on Win 7.
We have about two feet of brick at the bottom of our garage.
We are thinking of getting the whole front bricked with that same brick.
Is there a way I can create an image of our house showing that change?
I was looking at Fill Layer. There is some Pattern things available there.
But perhaps there is a better way to approach this.
    Thanks for any thoughts.

Perhaps the photos app is too basic. I can’t confirm as I have an Android tablet. If you buy a $5 app, iPhoto for iOS5 you also get lots off cool tools and can create journals which make instant web pages. You can share with friends and family simply by using the copy link button and mailing them the URL.
Adobe also has a great Photoshop Touch app which you can sync with tablets via the Adobe Creative Cloud. Unfortunately the new PSDX files with layers can only be worked on subsequently in CS5 and CS6 as there is presently no plug-in for Elements. But the tools make it a great stand alone app if you want to do editing on the iPad.
There’s also the Snapseed app from Nik Software and Adobes consumer app Photoshop Express - so it’s a fast changing environment (Apple will soon launch iOS6) with hardware limitations. Not to be rushed into.
There is a hack/workaround if you have the CCK. You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit to get files directly on to your iPad if you want to avoid the hassle of using iTunes or the cloud.
You first plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your video/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., IMG_1234.jpg; 12345678.jpg; MVI_1234.mov; my-movie.mov).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import.
You will probably see a message like unsupported USB device but you can ignore it and import your photos.
    Gotcha
The videos will show up in the photos section on the iPad but a great trick is to just play a movie from the connected flash drive rather than taking up space copying a large file to your iPad.

ONLY the carrier it is locked to can authorize unlocking it. Anything else is a hack.
If it was hacked/jailbroken to unlock it, you can't get help here per the terms of service. It is most likely now bricked.

  • Anchored graphic as background image?

I am working with text flowing continuously through a master text frame unto multiple pages and I am trying to anchor a full-page background image (with bleed) onto specific pages. Is this possible?
I want the background image to stay with the relevant heading on each page. However, when I use "Object/Anchored Object/Insert" to do this with "custom" as the anchor option I end up with a frame on the same layer as my text. This is okay, but when I place an image in the frame, it covers the text I have entered in the text frame. I can see the dotted line indicating the anchor connection, but not the text it is anchored to. I can't change the order of objects within the layer because the "Arrange" options are greyed out. Changing the text wrap options does not help.

Thanks Bob! Really good to know. I will stop hitting my head against a brick wall!
Adding backgrounds to master pages doesn't really cut it since I still can't have them flow dynamically with the continually evolving text in this project. (I suspect I might be able to flow backgrounds with text in Word, if it came to it, but of course I chose InDesign to give me more control, particularly over the non-text elements of the layout).

  • When browsing a new library that I created, the browser shows dotted lines around grey rectangles, no images. When I double click on a rectangle the image appears. How do I get images to appear in the browser rectangles?

When browsing a new library that I created and exported onto an external hard drive, the browser shows dotted lines around grey rectangles, no images. When I double click on a rectangle, the image appears, but all the other rectangles remain empty - no image. How do I get images to appear in the browser rectangles? I am viewing this on a second computer (an older intel duo iMac), not the one I created the library on (a MacBook Pro). Both computers have Aperture 3.2.4 installed. When I return the external to the MacBook, all images appear in browser rectangles. What's happening on the iMac?

You may have a problem with the permissions on your external volume. Probably you are not the owner of your library on the second mac.
If you have not already done so, set the "Ignore Ownership on this Volume" flag on your external volume. To do this, select the volume in the Finder and use the Finder command "File > Get Info" (or ⌘I).
In the "Get Info" panel disclose the "Sharing & Permissions" brick, open the padlock, and enable the "Ignore Ownership on this Volume" flag. You will have to authentificate as administrator to do this.
Then run the "Aperture Library First Aid Tools" on this library and repair the permissions. To launch the "First Aid Tools" hold down the ⌥⌘-key combination while you double click your Aperture Library. Select "Repair Permissions" and run the repair; then repeat with "Repair Database". Do this on the omputer where you created the library and where you can see the thumbnails.
Then check, if you now are able to read the library properly on your iMac.

  • How do I make image backgrounds black and white while maintaining color in the foreground objects?

I have a close up close-up image of an orchid with blurred background.  I am trying to make the background black and white while maintaining the foreground color on the petals, buds and stems.  Any ideas?

Use the Blank & White Brick and either brush the effect onto the background or brush is away from the foreground.  "Detect Edges" will help control the edge of the mask.
You might be interested in knowing that you can brush on/away masks of different strengths, and thus produce effects in between 0% and 100%.

  • Serious W7 Bug - ALL ATi Drivers for Thinkpads /w Switchable Graphics Technology bricks OS.

Alas, i have found one serious bug for my Thinkpad.
It comes with Switchable Graphics Card Technology, with an Intel GMA 4500MHD and ATi Mobility Radeon 3470 paired together.
I have initially installed Pre-RTM 7260(ok, i know it's leaked), and faced the problem for the first time after installing the ATi drivers from either Windows Update OR ATi's website. However i have downgraded back to Release Candidate as there was stability issues with EXPLORER.exe
Anyway, surprising what i've though to be a show-stopper bug was also present in RC 7100. After installing(or rather, midway through) the driver installation, the screen blinks for a moment and after that, Explorer.exe is nowhere to be found with only wallpaper. OS seems to be bricked as restart does nothing. Only a System Restore prior to installation would solve the issue.
After diagnosing the problem, i have found the issue to be with the Switchable Graphics Card system. In BIOS, it was set to Swithable Graphics, with OS Detection set to Enabled, Thinkpad LCD Display(for output). I tried to set the graphics to either Discrete(ATi) or Integrated(Intel) but when i booted the system up it was in SVGA resolution and DXDIAG stating no graphics found. When it was in Discrete, i tried to install the ATi drivers once again, and although installation was successful, after restarting the same thing happened.
To be fair, i have repeated the drivers installation EXACTLY the same for both Windows 7 Builds(7100 RC and 7260 Pre-RTM) and the same problem occured. I have also tried to install the ATi drivers before the Intel Chipset(and basically the rest) and it's the same nevertheless.
I believe that this is a serious issue with Switchable Graphics Technology for Windows 7 Beta, since we have to make do with the generic Microsoft display adapter alone. I hope Lenovo engineers can put priority a solution for this as soon as possible.

Sorry to hear you are having difficulties.
When I installed RC1 (build 7100), it came with a built-in driver that worked just fine for the discrete graphics in my W500.
A few weeks later, I installed the current release Vista driver for integrated graphics (this one) and it is working just fine as well.  Installing the Lenovo driver gave me the ATI control panel (not sure what use that is), otherwise, it didn't affect performance either way.
I have switchable graphics turned off in the BIOS, OS detection turned off, and have the machine set to use the discrete graphics only.  I think it would be a bit much to expect either Microsoft or Lenovo to support the switchable graphics this early in the development of Windows 7.  Besides, the discrete graphics doesn't eat up the battery that much - I still get 3 hours of battery life, which is sufficient for my needs.
Maybe try turning switchable graphics and switchable graphics detection off in your BIOS, that might get you running again.

  • 10.9.2 update bricked my MacBookPro

All was well running OS 10.9.1 on my 2007 MacBookPro with Core2Duo processor.
Then came the OS 10.9.2 update. First it caused the crash report function to peg the CPU, running more threads until it topped out at 8.
Repaired the disk permissions twice. Rebooted gracefully several times. But the new problem persisted.
Finally on the seventh reboot, the system reached the login screen. I could not finish typing a password before a hard hang left the system entirely unresponsive. After a few minutes, I forced a reboot with the power button.
Now the system is bricked, all thanks to a poison update.
The question is how do I get past this poisonous update, which seems to have impacted the firmware as well, because now the system will not boot from known good alternate boot media.

Thank you Bob. I should have tried harder to get the MacBookPro to respond to boot-time keypresses. It took several tries to force firmware to boot from an alternate OS image on external drive, but when that finally worked, I realized that the OS 10.9.2 upgrade damage was limited to the OS boot and recovery partitions on the internal SSD
I'll conceed that OS X is not my first & best platform, and I force OS X to coexist in a corporate ecosystem dominated by Linux and Windows.
Likely third-party drivers clobbered by OS 10.9.2 which ran fine up through 10.9.1 include:
    1. remote video projector link provided by AirParrot since Apple does not support AirPlay in the OS on my older 2007 MacBook Pro despite having dedicated GPU that's capable.
    2. third-party NTFS to get complete functionality
    3. third-party WiFi drivers for spectrum analysis
    4. third-party tool to force OS X to support TRIM on non-Apple SSD.
The freshly installed image of OS 10.9.2 thats working now on the internal SSD will be replicated to external drive prior to installing any of those four items.

  • Bricked new Iphone 4 during update, any way to get some life in it?

Bought two Iphone 4, and was setting them up.
First part went Ok recognized and Itune suggested firmware update.
Well update crashed with a error and now the phone just comes up with connect to itunes symbol screen and nothing happens when you plug it in it does not show up in itunes under devices any more.
Itunes works and ports because if I connect the other new phone you get a msg about it in itunes, so the total dead thing is rather certain the phone.
Spent some time searching to see if I could find some button reset other than the 10 sec power + circle one but no luck.
So is there any software, key-press that can un-brick the phone or is it back to store that is the solution?
Does not feel as a good idea to try with the other phone unless this first is solved, at least it functions as a "test tool" to see that itunes and port is working

    First,
    Thanks for answering!

It looks like there where no backup done, because if you move out what is in "iPhone Software Updates" single file exactly the same gets downloaded name: "iPhone3,14.2.1_8C148Restore.ipsw"
Which looks like the current new release and not the previous version v4.1 or something like that.
Worth mentioning is that I never entered the phone menus making any changes but took it out of the box mounted sim and went from there "obeying" the iTunes suggestion to update.

  • Apple ADC to DVI Adapter -- Power Brick gets HOT

    Hello all,
I just purchased an Apple ADC to DVI adapter to connect my 23" Cinema Display to my new Mac Pro. It works perfectly, but I've noticed that the white, square power brick is generating quite a bit of heat. It feels sort of OK (within tolerance) at the edges but toward the middle it's noticeably hot. Not hot enough to burn my hands, or cook an egg, but definitely toasty warm. Is this normal? Or does it sound like I have a defective one?
    Alan

If by "on" you mean the adapter is connected to your display and plugged in to an AC outlet, and you have an image on your display coming from your computer, then it's not dead.

  • Image Gallery or Lightbox that works for DW CS6?

Help! I need an image gallery or lightbox that works! I tried the Lightbox Gallery in Widgets and while it works for the most part, the nav buttons don't show up and I've put the files in every directory (path) possible. Does anyone have a fix for this - I've perused forums for hours about this. OR is there something else that's easy and fast and that works? And hopefully free?
