Bricked iTouch

I tried to update my 2G iPod Touch from 3.1.3 to iOS4 yesterday. About halfway through the process, iTunes came up with a numberless error saying that the iTunes Store could not be reached at this time. I have tried countless times over the last 36 hours to re-reach the iTunes Store to finish the download, but to no avail. The iPod has the USB Cable and arrow to iTunes on the screen, and when I do connect it to iTunes, the only option I have when secondarily clicking on it is to Eject. WHAT THE JUNK!?!?!? Because of this, I am unable to downgrade. I don't know what to do now. HELP!!!!

I have found a way to re-install the 3.1.2 firmware. Be warned that you will lose all your apps and data and have to restore everything. Any app specific data not also in a desktop version is also gone. Using the developer firmware download. Be sure the file of firmware is on the desktop. Option click on restore in iTunes and then navigate to where the file is.

  • Semi-bricked iTouch...? wuh?!

Ugh, okay, so I bought an iPod Touch (2G) off ebay (Yeah yeah, I know) I was told there were some problems with it (other than a failed jailbrake.) Basically the iPod boots up into recovery mode (DFU doesn't seem to work...) Okay fine, iTunes sees the ipod and tells me to recover it, so I do that, but all it does is give me a 1611 error every time.
Ugh... Any suggestions? (Even if I gotta send it in [for a nominal fee, even] to get it repaired/exchanged?)

If the issue occurs on multiple computers (probably the reason it was sold) and with an alternate USB cable, there may be a hardware issue. I believe 1611 is a USB related error? Take a look at the LSI in the headphone jack for water damage, here is a graphic.
Do you know if the device is within the 1 year warranty period? If so, and there are no signs of accidental damage, Apple can replace it. Apple can still repair or replace the device if it is out of warranty. Unfortunately I don't know what the current OOW fee is for iPod touch but Applecare can give you that figure, 1-800-692-7753
May be more than what you paid for it

  • Need 3.1.2 Firmware...

The download through iTunes is not working... something with the fact that I bought it once before and now iTunes is pulling an "apple" and will not just give me the #@*% file like I want. Soooo I need to find a place OUTSIDE of Apple which can't seem to make things simple in order to get the firmware and repair my bricked iTouch. Unless of course Apple wants to make the file downloadable and NOT in iTunes!!! Excuse my frustration but I have just lost FOUR hours searching for the file and gave up in a very irritated state of mind.

I'm gonna try and call, get a live person on the phone. I don't want the 3.1.3 I need to restore it to factory.

  • Itouch Bricked?

I'm not sure what the term "Bricked" refers to except maybe that the Ipod in question has become a paper weight. But I think mine may be.
I bought an Itouch 16gig 2nd gen a year or so ago. After about 2 months worth of usage the Itouch whenever it synched would tell me that the files where corrupted and would need restored to be used. Not a problem, I restored it, took it to work, got home and plugged it in to charge told me again "Corrupt files, please restore Itouch to factory setting to use" did again.. this continued for about a week every time I plugged it in to charge it. Finally I called apple, I was told I needed to try returning it to the place I bought it. I bought it from Walmart.. tried to return with the receipt and was told I had to return to Apple. Called apple again, sat on the phone for 2 hours and was told finally I would have to take the Itouch to a certified Apple store, and I was in luck since there where two 40 minutes away (Champaign, Illinois) I drove to both of these stores, neither of which ended up being certified Apple stores one of which didn't even sell Ipods or MACs. Called again sat on the phone for 3 hours, hung up and threw the Itouch in a drawer.
Now I'm trying to get it up and running again, it irritates me that I spend around $400.00 on a device that didn't work after 2 months. Called Apple again, they refered me to the same stores they had the year before... I explained what happend last time and was told oh well.. you can send it to use but it'll cost $150.00. Screw that.. I'll go buy a different product before i'll pay $150 to have this POS fixed.
Here are the problems with it and anyone that has any solutions it would be appreciated.
    1. The Itouch is now dead (battery)
    2. It will not charge because when plugged in it says its in recovery mode.
    3. The apple logo no longer comes up, I have a plain white screen when it is trying update and restore.
    4. The restore will not work from my main computer account.
    5. The restore gets stuck at verifying software when using another account.
    6. The only other computers I have access to are the ones at school. When I try to download the new software it gets stuck at 75mb and says "error 1600"
I've tried everything... is my Itouch "bricked"?
    any help would be appreciated.
    -Christopher

honestly i think that nothing is going to help because my itouch did the same thing and then i went to plug it in again and now it wont even turn on... i even tried taking it in to have the battery replaced ($80.00) and still dont work. took it into a certified apple store and they said they cant help. the only thing i can tell you is to just NEVER buy anything from apple again. they are useless

  • IOS 2.2.1 on iTouch first generation essentially bricks device

I recently upgraded my first generation 8GB iTouch to 2.2.1.  Doing so essentially rendered the device worthless as I cannot browse the internet or utilize apps that require network connectivity.  How can I use my iTouch again?  Is there a method to restore previous functionality?

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
    -  Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • Airport Extreme with iPod Touch?  But 2 floors of concrete & Brick Walls??

Qwik-Question: Can Airport Extreme penetrate brick and 2 floors of thick concrete to reach my iPod Touch on the upper floor??
    _FULL DETAILS:_
Hello! I have been using Macs since 1989 and should be a pro by now-- but things have advanced so much that...
...that I use Apple Discussions regularly!
+OK I have a wired ethernet with a cable modem going to a D-Link Router, going to a switch with a MacBook, G4733 and PBG4-12" (i.e. PB-Helium!)(Loveit) plus 2 ethernet printers-- in my basement office, then nothing on the "ground" floor, but another "switch" on the next floor above (in the US this would be the second floor; but in Europe it would be #1, with Ground Floor "0" and basement "-1").+ On the upper floor is an iMac (2005) and cables to attach other Macs/PC's as needed.
Primarily I want WIRELESS so that my iPod Touch with the January 2008 software update is able to access the www for eM and weather and stocks etc. I've tried this via borrowing a neighbor's WiFi (with his permission) last week-- worked fine! (His PC wireless was located on an upper floor, not the basement!)
Other reasons for going wireless-- (i)using my PB or MB on the "ground" floor (no cable there); and (ii)when my daughter visits-- with her VISTA PC (although we've had problems when she uses a cable in my home network-- VISTA kicks-out the Macs after a while and I have to re-initialize the D-Link Router!!!)
(NOTE: I plan to keep my printers and the current MB / PB / G4733 primarily on the wired network - I assume I can do this, i.e. have both wired and wireless and choose which I want when I want it?)
_AND NOW THE KEY QUESTION IS:_ *WILL THE 2 LAYERS OF CONCRETE AND BRICK IN THIS BELGIAN HOUSE ATTENUATE THE SIGNAL SO MUCH THAT I CANNOT USE WIFI WITH THE ITOUCH FROM THE TOP FLOOR??*
And if so, what is the best solution?
    1. Just install an Apple Extreme in basement and pray?
    2. Somehow attache the Apple Extreme to the upstairs switch (is that possible??)
    3. Someone said that an "airport" may be better for this than an Apple Extreme? Why??
    4. Other-- a repeater i.e. Apple Extreme in basement with a "repeater" somewhere (ground floor?)
I really am not sure-- and would be disappointed if I spent $200 (is that the price? Likely more in Europe in Euros!) for an Apple Extreme in the basement and then find the signal is not available on the top floor...
Thanks for any comments, references etc.
    Best regards,

  • 2.1 for iTouch now , but not 4 iPhone? Having issues with the 2.1 iTouch!!

So I hope the 2.1 experience I am having with my iTouch, isn't a foreshadow of what is going to happen to me Friday?
iTouch is bombing out & not restoring, but before that I was getting a message I needed iTunes 7.7.1 (which I have) then it was not able to update to 2.1 on the iTouch. Maybe it's a good thing I have to wait till Friday, my iPhone I need for work, my iTouch is a toy. "Bricking" it I can wait on Apple, "Bricking" my iPhone customers can't call me... Dooah!

Sadly, I would bet money that it is. I know I'll be holding off the iPhone upgrade until I see how many phones it bricks.
I, too, am having trouble with the touch update. It says I have an update available, but when I click the iTunes8 update button, I get the error message
There was a problem downloading the iPod software for the iPod "J's 32GB iPod touch". The requested resource was not found.
I guess I should look on the bright side - better a download that won't than an iPod that won't.

  • My Itouch doesnt have a wifi address anymore :\ how do i get a new address?

ok here it is in simple terms ok. I didnt jailbreak it i used one of the applications that apple has on its site for the updates. It bricked my itouch for like a couple minutes. It started charging w/o a charger being plugged into it and when a charger was it would lose charge. It also turned back on as soon as i turned it off. Now it will not let me into the Wi-Fi area in settings as in the button for it is grayed out and reads No Wi-Fi in the about my itouch it shows it has no Wi-Fi address. How do i get another Wi-Fi address??? everything else works fine. What is wrong with it and i have already restored it using Itunes, reseted it through settings and i can not let it run dead because it will not run out of battery becuase it will not run dead with the charger in it because it wont let it past 10% and with it off( the charger off of it) the battery charges...So what can I do to GET A NEW WIFI ADDRESS IS ALL IM ASKING IS THAT SO HARD???? THE REST IS EXPLAINING MY PROBLEM OK????

  • The new software bricked me ... cannot restore, synch, start as new ipod

I purchased the upgraded software and went through the big back-up for a restore. When it was done it said the restore failed. I've tried to restore from the back-up (the files are still taking up 5GB on my hard drive), when that failed twice I tried the "use as a new ipod" option but it will not let me copy any files to the itouch. I just keep getting the message "the ipod 16GB iTouch cannot be synched. The required file cannot be found."
I am going on vacation with the family Friday morning -- 2 itouches for 2 kids in the backseat. I need this to work and I am afraid to upgrade the other itouch I own. Please help.

Now my other itouch won't stay connected to my MAc and it wants me to update to 2.2.1 (fat chance). So now neither itouch works properly, and one is bricked. Great, that's $530 US.

  • ITouch  Stuck in Restore Mode

I've been unable to revive my iTouch since the release of V2.1.....I've tried everything uninstalled itunes 8.0, Apple Mobile Device Support, Mobile Me and Bonjour. Reinstalled all of them, end result is still the same. iTouch gets hung up in restore in the "Restoring Firmware" step. Everytime I connect my itouch it starts requesting a restore, it dooesn't recognize the iTouch under it's old name of "Russitouch", just recognizes "ipod".
Prior to all of this happening I had itunes 7.7.1, iTouch ver 2.0.? I'm sitting with a $300 brick that is now completely unusable. Worked fine before this upgrade last Friday.
Any suggestions besides buying a new iTouch? :-((
    Thanks in advance,
    Russ

O.k. maybe the trick is to downgrade to 7.7.1.11
I found a collection of old versions here:
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_itunes/
Unfortunately... you have to completely uninstall iTunes in order to downgrade. I suggest finding another computer so you don't loose your library. You can move your "My Documents/My Music/iTunes" directory out of the way when you install 7.7.1.11 and then when you re-install 8.0, move it back. If you didn't understand what I just said, it's best you don't try it then.
DRGAS: I don't know if the file names are the same, my firmware file was named iPod1,12.1_5F137Restore.ipsw
    I hope that helps.

  • Relocation ATT termination. Will my iPhone turn into brick?

I've moved to non-service area and ATT terminated my iPhone contract with no early termination fee. All functions still work except the phone function, which shows no service. Will my iPhone turn into "brick" if I try to update and sync photo and music libraries through iTunes? Will I lose wifi capability that I now have? Will I be able to buy new web apps through iTunes next week after developer's conference? My iPhone is now "legally unlocked" and is functioning as an iTouch. Will it be "bricked" if I connect to iTunes now?

    Piercey wrote:
Why do we allow the manufactures and cell phone providers to lock OUR PHONES. We are the client to both of them. There 3 year contract or so is good enough to lock us in as clients.
So we can pay $400 for them instead of $1200 (the cost of an unlocked phone in France).
You can buy almost any phone unlocked; you just pay a LOT more for it than for a locked phone (the iPhone in the US is the exception).

  • ITouch in Recovery Mode

I downloaded the new iOS 4 update for the iTouch (I have a second generation if I'm correct). The update process threw my iTouch into recovery mode and when I plug it in, iTunes will attempt to restore it but give me an error message.
    2010-07-01 14:17:56.000 iTunes[119:207]: iTunes: Restore error 21
I can't even begin to know how to rectify this.

    Well MidSummer,
I'm sorry if I sounded whiny. I was totally exasperated (see my message on a similar thread), up past midnight.
At least you're in Alaska! What a beautiful place! Hopefully one of the fixes posted in the forum will work, or if you Google "ipod error 21" you may find a solution from one of the suggestions.
well, I woke up early to try a variation of the suggestion to try another computer. This is my daughter's Touch 2nd gen 8gig that I was foolishly trying to update, and hearing her complaints would be worse than dealing with my own frustration.
I logged on the desktop PC on my user id, all this time I was trying to update and fix the problem on hers. Perhaps my ID has administrative rights, I'm not sure, but that may be one of the issues. Also, the wifi connection on my id always seems to be better than hers for whatever reason. Anyway, I plugged in the brick/paperweight and started the whole process over. I don't have any iTunes content on my user ID on my home desktop. I kept my fingers crossed as I saw the familiar warning message boxes (must restore, etc.) It worked after a couple of glitches(removed and reconnected the ipod)! The Desktop and iTunes finally recognized the ipod! I then restored it from her back-up library. It was able to take the library from her user stuff and reinstall while still logged in under my user ID.
It does seem slow, and may have rearranged my daughter's apps. I haven't had time to run through the Touch to even see if wifi was working yet-I had to get to work. I did see her apps and music and video library on the Touch though. From what I've read on-line, this new OS4 has a lot of bugs for most people, heck-I'm not thrilled with v3.13. Hopefully when I get back from work, my daughter will have played around with it and there won't be too may issues to resolve.
Midsummer, you may need to call Apple service service reps, tell them your touch was working fine, until iTunes 9 instructed you to update the Touch to OS4. Hopefully they'll send you a shipping box and not charge you.
Before this, I must have tried at least 6 different suggestions, and it seems that some work for different touch owners, and other have no effect. I would give the "different computer or user" method first before trying the more complicated suggestions.
    Good Luck!

  • Use 160GB through iTouch interface?

Situation: I love the iTouch (I have the 16GB, preordered before they hit the market), but it has far from enough space to hold my music (300+GB). I also have a 160GB iPod Classic... is there any way to connect the two so that I can have 176GB total space, but use only the iTouch interface to go through it all?
The scroll wheel on the iPod classic *****, to be honest. It's not very sensitive. I don't want to "degrade" (so to speak)... but I also want to carry all my music on a player that is fun and easy to use? Thanks!
P.S.: I've thought about this a lot, and my guess is that the answer is going to be a short "No." So, I ask: Why not? I've spent upwards of $500 for these products, and feel that because of my investment I am right to expect convenient and useful things like this to be possible, even if said versatility is not emphasized or even mentioned (as Apple would much rather that I spend another $200-$300 on a brand new iTouch with hardly any space).

Sorry, no you can't. I would assume that having a touch screen product to run iOS with a hard drive which can hold that much space(instead of flash drive) would be too big(brick) and costly. Maybe someday if flash memory increases greatly but that is no where in sight.
It is just two different devices. Harddrive v. flash drive. Since apple is moving all their new products to be touch based I don't expect any new product with large amounts of memory.
There is a reason that the ipod touch can go to 64GB and the iphone can only go to 32GB. It is because of space. The ipod touch can just fit another 32GB in the space that phone parts would go.
