Bridged network connected to wrong eth

Hi all,
I have an Oracle VM server and Oracle VM Manager with network connectivity but am having trouble getting network connectivity for the guest virtual machines.
On my Oracle VM Server, I have networking going through eth0 - the VM server created a bonded interface bond0 that connects to the active eth0.  When I created a virtual machine network in the Oracle VM Manager, I was only given the option of choosing ports eth1, eth3 and eth4 in the "Select Ports to include in your network" so I picked eth1.  This resulted in created a bridged network that uses port eth1.  The problem is that I currently do not have internet connectivity on port eth1.
The question I have is:
1) Do I need to have at a minimum of 2 NICs on the Oracle VM Server?  One for the server management  and the other for virtual machines?
2) Why does eth0 not show up as an option when selecting ports for the VM network?
Appreciate any insight on this!!!
Thanks,
Nick

Hi,
To design your network architecture, dont forget to take care about:
- Fault tolerance
- Performance
- Security/Isolation
With Oracle VM Manager you can work with a minimum 1 NIC (all networks on the same interface) but this's not secure.
- if you have two NICs, you can create a network (Virtual Machine) and the second NIC to the other Network (more secure). and if you have a VLAN switch you can add the second NIC to the bond0, and create 5 logical networks (more secure & fault tolerance).
I hope this can help you
Best Regards

My iMessages and FaceTime they won't let me set up them they say my network connection is wrong but I have full network connection iPad 2

Check Settings>General>Date & Time>Set Automatically>On. Make sure that the time zone setting is also set correctly.
If that didn't solve the problem, restart your iPad and try again. If that fails, reset your iPad and try again.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • Bridging network connections - access connection problem

    Hi there,
I need to sum up my network connections (wlan, umts, e1000, loopback) to one connetion using a bridge. Unfortunatelly there seems to be a problem with the lenovo sw. After a few minutes connection time, wlan just stops working. I guess it has something to do with the automatic switching of the access connection system if it detects another network. Is there somewhere in the settings an option to allow bridging?
    Thank you for any hint.

  • Problems with SRW224G4 switch and Bridged Network Cards

    Hello,
We have recently installed a SRW224G4 switch and have discovered that when we plug our DELL PowerEdge 2900 server into the switch, the switch loses all network connectivity and all of the LED's on the switch start flashing.
The server works perfectly well plugged into another switch, but as soon as we introduce the SRW224G4 into the network, either with the server plugged into that switch or any other, the problem re-occurs.
The only way we found we could eliminate this issue was if we disabled the Bridged Network connection on the two network cards on the server. If we do that, everything is fine, except the network performance of the server has dropped significantly.
The server is plugged into the 1GB ports on the switch, although we tried it on the 100MB ports and received the same problems. The switch reports that the ports are running at full-duplex.
Has anyone noticed this behavior before, and more importantly been able to rectify it.
Thanks in advance for your assistance,
    Paul

I had this problem as well with any Linksys 2024 or rackmountable switch..  The trick is, you need to use the network cards management software to "team" or bridged the 2 NIC's otherwise the switch detects a loop and the whole thing locks up. So lame...  Windows built in bridge mode stinks dont use it.  When you use the Intel management software or Dell or HP's NIc management software you have the option to actually choose "redundant mode" where you can pick a Nic to be the primary, or you can choose Load Balancing where you can essentially double your throughput by joining the 2 nics.
In Windows 2008 Server, you actually do this by going to the Properties on the NIC in  Device Manger.  the software controls are now built right into the driver.  pretty neat.  2003 you can check Device Manager the same way but not sure if it's the same as 2008, you might need to run the actual NIC management app.
    Hope this helps

    Hey aries35,
I found the following that goes over troubleshooting the same issue for the iPhone. I know you have an iPad, but the steps should still apply:
    Perform the following steps:
    Restart the iPhone.
Try another means of reaching the activation server and attempt to activate.
Try connecting to a known-good Wi-Fi network if you're unable to activate using a cellular data connection.
Try connecting to iTunes if you're unable to activate using Wi-Fi.
    Restore the iPhone.
If you receive an alert message when you attempt to activate your iPhone, try to place the iPhone in recovery mode and perform a restore. If you're still unable to complete the setup assistant due to an activation error, contact Apple for assistance.

  • Bridge network to capture connections from VM with Arch and VirtualBox

    Hello everyone,
what I am trying to do is capturing the connections from a VM for malware analysis. It turned out to be a little harder then I thought because I'm absolutely new to arch.
So what I thought of: Just have a normal host adapter and sniff. But it turned out that the VM does not have a dedicated adapter.
So the obvious next step would be to create one. I did that via the Host-Only-Adapter menu.
The problem is, that this is not connected to the internet as it is for the guest only. So what I thought to do was bridging it to my wls1-interface wich is connected to a WiFi.
    My normal way would be:
    brctl addbr capture
    brctl show
    brctl addif capture wls1
    brctl addif capture vboxnet0
But that does not work with wls1 (it is refused to be linked to that bridge though enp0s25 works well).
The second thing I thought of was using netctl to build a bridge. This is what I put in /etc/netctl/bridge
    Description="vmbridge"
    Interface=br0
    Connection=bridge
    BindsToInterfaces=(wls1 vboxnet0)
    IP=dhcp
    ## Ignore (R)STP and immediately activate the bridge
    #SkipForwardingDelay=yes
But the command "sudo netctl start bridge" is just crashing my internet connection.
So how could I do this in the possibly best and most stable way?
    Thanks for your help

As you have found out, you cannot create a (Ethernet) bridge with a wireless interface. That is not going to work, whether you use brctl directly, or netctl.
If you would like to setup everything quickly and do not mind capturing everything (including host traffic), then just run dumpcap/tcpdump on the wireless interface.
If you are not stuck to VBox, try QEMU. Example command:
    qemu-system-x86_64 -enable-kvm -m 2G -hda disk.qcow2 -net dump,file=dump.pcap -net user -net nic,model=e1000
-enable-kvm: enable KVM virtualization acceleration (requires Intel VT-x or the AMD equivalent). Remove if your machine does not support it.
    -m 2G: assign 2GB RAM
    -hda disk.qcow2: disk image created with qemu-img create -f qcow2 disk.qcow2 16G (16 GB disk image)
As you need to tap on the network, let QEMU create a hub network with three devices:
    -net dump,file=...: hub network with
-net user: the host connection (you could also use tap, bridge, etc. if needed)
-net nic,model=...: the guest network connection
See the manual page qemu and the wiki for further details.

  • Network teaming/bonding - Team a wifi connection and an eth one ???

    Hello,
Is it possible to team/bond a wifi network connection with a ethernet one to increase the overall connexion speed?
I believe that it can be done with 2 eth one, but not sure about a eth and a wifi one.
    Thanks in advance.
    Ludo

No reason you can't AFAIK depending on the bonding mode you want to use, but it wouldn't be desirable if your goal is speed.
Bonding does NOT aggregate the links per stream. Each stream still only goes over 1 "physical" connection to avoid packets getting out of order etc, so you would find that some connections would be sent over the wifi (and be limited by it's connection speed), while other connections would be on the wire connection.
Bonding allows more streams to happen in parallel, it doesn't magically speed up individual streams.
You would still be able to obtain redundancy using bonding (eg, mode 1)

  • Network Connectivity Status Indicator for IPv6 works wrong in Windows 7 and Windows 8

    Hi Folks,
I am working on testing Network Connectivity Status Indicator for IPv6 in Windows 7 and 8.
Waht is "Network Connectivity Status Indicator(NCSI)" you can refer to https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee126135%28v=ws.10%29.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396
I found that even if Network Connectivity Status Indicator detect IPv6 connection to http://ipv6.msftncsi.com/ncsi.txt failed.
Windows IE still use IPv6 to connect to website first, rather than stop using IPv6 and to use IPv4.
It will cause IPv6 fallback to IPv4 problem, that's 21 secs and 7 secs delay for fallback in Windows 7 and 8.
Does anyone suffer the same problem?
Or someone know how this works?
    Thanks!

    Hi Roger_Wang0214,
"Windows IE still use IPv6 to connect to website first, rather than stop using IPv6 and to use IPv4."
By default Windows prefers IPv6 over IPv4,we can manually configure the IPv4 prefer over IPv6 if it has result in any troubles.
Here is a link for reference :
Resolving Internet connectivity issues after World IPv6 Launch (June 6, 2012)
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2533454
"The "Prefer IPv4 over IPv6" Fix it solution will configure your computer to prefer IPv4, instead of IPv6. By default, Windows prefers IPv6 over IPv4. If you are having problems using IPv6 to connect to some websites, this may resolve the
    problem."
For a Windows 7 machine ,we can try the following fixit tool to configure IPv4 prefer over IPv6 .For a Windows 8.1 machine ,we can configure it referring to the manual part .
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip6\Parameters\DisabledComponents
If the DisabledComponents entry is unavailable, we can create it (DWORD (32-bit) Value). Then set a value with "0x20"to prefer IPv4 over IPv6 by changing entries in the prefix policy table.

Any takers on this question ? FaceTime is one of the apps I used all the time prior to Os7 update, now i can't get in because when I try to sign in, the message I receive says Activation could not sign in and I should check my network connection. My network connection works fine, I can use the internet or twitter or all the other apps which require a working network, but not FaceTime.......What's up with that ??

there has been a big problem with facetime and imessage. The best solution for this case is to restore your device http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
Make sure you back it up. and I would set up facetime before you reinstall your backup and  make sure its working.

  • (Solved) Bridge ethernet connection with Samsung TV

Hello, on my laptop I connect to the internet through my built in wireless adapter. I am trying to give my samsung tv a local network connection. I do not care about sharing my wireless internet through the ethernet althought that would be a convenient plus. However, I run to able to use my wireless internet while keeping the ethernet bridge. I run ps3 media server currently using my wireless connection but wired is more stable and so I want use that. I unplugged the wireless adapter from the samsung tv to get rid of the conflict. I am using KDE and networkmanager (the actual tray applet designed for kde is in use). I prefer to set this up graphically using networkmanager if possible.
Output of lspci | grep -i net
02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Broadcom Corporation NetLink BCM57780 Gigabit Ethernet PCIe (rev 01)
04:00.0 Network controller: Atheros Communications Inc. AR928X Wireless Network Adapter (PCI-Express) (rev 01)
According to windows my wireless is a AR5 and not an ar9. Not sure which to believe.
I setup the connection arch-laptop, restarting the computer and Wired Connection disappeared.
On my tv I have internet protocol setup as manual.
IP Address like networkmanager is 10.42.43.1
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
    Gateway 1.1.1.1
Setup IP setup to manual forced dns to that also
    DNS Server: 192.168.2.2
My isp (cisco brand) modem ip address is 192.168.0.1 and my router is 192.168.1.1. I am not very educated on the dns gateway subnet thing -- note I am calling it a thing. If you can help me out that would be great. Also, I am not completely sure if what I want is called an ethernet bridge. I am pretty sure my dns ip is wrong. I set gateway 1.1.1.1 because the tv says 0.0.0.0 is invalid. I have read the wiki and some forum posts but they are commandline solutions and I prefer graphical.
Marking as solved since tv does not even support this type of setup.

The EU40EH5300K TV is a model from 2012, and is compatible with the STC-2000 and STC-3000 model cameras. These are a little hard to find as Samsung has discontinued production of them.
Unfortunately the STC-4000 and STC-5000 (2014 and 2015 cameras) are NOT compatible with this TV.

  • Network connection problems, please help!

I have had an iPod Touch (4th generation) for over a year now and it worked fine. Today, something went wrong with my network connection. One moment it says that I'm connected to a network, and a few seconds later it says I'm not connected... Then a few seconds later it's connected again. I have full wifi bars, and it does it throughout my whole house. The wifi symbol keeps going on and off. I tried turning my Verizon Westell Model 6100G Modem off and back on because this normally fixes my wifi connection problems. This didn't work. Then I tried turning my iPod off and back on. This didn't work. I tried turning the wifi off and back on. This didn't work. I tried forgetting my network and signing back in. This didn't work. I also tried resetting the network, and this didn't work either. I'm not having any connection problems with my laptop, it's working fine. It's only my iPod. I'm still able to use the wifi, but for a split second, it will not work. I'm not sure what else to do. It's very annoying! I'm going to see if it does this at other peoples houses with their wifi. Can any one tell me what's wrong and how I should fix it? My only theory is a broken antenna...Please help! Thanks!

I have two things you could try.
    1. Plug your iPod into the host computer that which the network is based around because sometimes the network has trouble identifying a device if it has been a while since you plugged it into the computer.
    2. Find some way to get your network information (IP address, Subnet Mask, Router, DNS numbers) from another device on the network (e.g. laptop). Then go to Settings > Wi-FI and find your router and tap the blue arrow to the right of the name and tap the tab that says "Static" and enter this information accordingly. Then exit back to the network names menu and re-enter your passcode for your network (assuming you have a passcode)
