Brief RnR backup explanation please.

After reading the various info.help files on RnR restore, I am still left wondering just how it works.
1) By choosing restore, does RnR restore the BASE backup and then the most recent incremental backup taken thereafter?
2) Also, I've checked my Ext. USB drive for the presence and size of the backup data and the space used is 13gig approx yet on HDD, 25gig total space is used on Ext.
I understand the data is compressed but, by half? Does it really have all my important data and personal files? Fyi: HDD data does not have a lot of MP3. Mainly office work and less leisure stuff.

Hi,
the fact stays, that RnR is compressing all the backup files using a 7zip method and file structure.
so you are correct by saying, that it's kind of zipped.
The reason, why you don't have your .mp3 files backuped too is the fact, that they are banned from the RnR backu list.
When you start RnR GUI just go to Advanced GUI and select the "Optimize backup storage place" option in which you can select some files, that you dont want to backup, or you can see which files are already removed/ignored from/by the backup process.
Another place where you can check, what is excluded from the ackup process is registry key:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Lenovo\Rescue and Recovery\Settings]
key: ExcludeList
and also the key : BackupList
<in the BackupList that part, that starts with "X" that are the excluded files. >
Open that key and copy paste it into a text file, so that you can read it through.
Let me know, if that explains a bit the situation.

Hey,
I think you will find that you have to have a debit/credit card stored on yur account regardless of whether your have iTunes Credit or want to purchase a free App. I don't know why, I assume its for ID verification or is part of the terms and conditions. I occasionally have to re-verify my credit card info even when just trying to run Update on one of my Apps or like I said downloading a free App.

If your photos are in iPhoto or on your computer, then they are not lost. If you delete them from the iPad you have a major problem. You can check this out: iPad Data Recovery - Undelete & Rescue Lost Files from iPad.

On your iPhone, go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>Manage Storage. There you should be able to see how much of your used storage is allocated to different things (ex., iphone backup, ipad backup, mail). From there you should be able to figure out what is going on.

You can change the case sensitivity of the sparsebundle.. but I really doubt the error is real.

The sparsebundle should have case sensitivity turned on.
I cannot even fathom how it could have changed.
Let me recommend before you start fooling around with the sparsebundle.
Do a full network start.
Power everything off.. start up modem.. wait 2min.. power up the TC.. wait 2min.. power up any other network gear like switches.. wait..
Now power up the computer and try it.
If the error is the same.. I would do a factory reset of the TC.. give it all short names, no spaces and pure alphanumeric. Then reset TM .. see A4 in the same reference as above.. and do a verify of the backups.. A5 above and try the backup again..
No luck..
Then erase the TC and start over.. it is sometimes necessary as TM does get itself in a knot.

Seems to be a common enough problem. I've deleted the partial failed backup from iCloud, restoring all 5Gb of storage. Then started a manual backup. After about 20 minutes I get the same error message. I have repeated this several times. According to my iTunes on my laptop I managed one backup to iCloud from there but it is pointless if u can neither backup to or restore from iCloud via my iPhone 4. I had hoped ios 5.0.1 would solve this glitch but ....
So much for "it just works".
I have yet to see any suggested fix that works for me. Any other suggestions?

Sorry, but without a backup in iCloud or iTunes on your computer, your data is gone and can't be restored anymore.

Make sure the battery is charged.
If it's not a battery issue, restore your iPhone.

Removing RnR/Backup

Does anyone know how to remove any RnR/Backup data from the local/source disk? RnR/Backup does not work on my system, and I can not delete backups (RnR "does not respond"). Of course, I can repartition/reformat the docked backup disk.

Since you have a new machine it is unlikely that a required Service has been disabled.
But here is how to check your Services.
Start > Run > type services.msc
The Services window will open.
Click on Standard for better viewing.
Scroll down the list of Services to the ones starting with Thinkvantage.
Verify all the Thinkvantage services are set to Automatic, and are in a Started mode.
If a Thinkvantage service is not set to Automatic, then right click on the Service > Properties and change Startup Type to Automatic. Then click the Start button.
If a Service is set to Automatic but is not in a Started mode, then change it to Manual, and then change it back to Automatic, and click the Start button.
If all the Thinkvantage Services are set to Automatic and in Started mode, then this is not your problem.
Another place to look for a possible reasons for R&R not working is the Event Viewer.
Start > Run > type eventvwr
Click on Custom Views > Administrative Events and look for errors in the Administrative Events list.
Post any errors that look like they might be related to Thinkvantage.

Just for the record, there has never been a property named "close after completion" of "movie" object or "document" object in QuickTime Player (7 or X).
In QuickTime Player 7, there're "close when done" and "quit when done" properties of "document" object, which is indeed "movie" object.
In QuickTime Player 7, the term "movie" is defined as synonym for "document" in its AppleScript dictionary (this synonym definition is hidden in aete resource), that is why the term "movie" in source code in context of QuickTime Player 7 is compiled as "document" in AppleScript editor.
And the reason why the expression such as:
set close after completion of document 1 to true
does not throw compilation error in context of QuickTime Player X is that AppleScript compiler parses it NOT as
(set
    ("close after completion"
        (of (document (1))))
    (to (true)))
but as
(set
    (close
        (after
            (completion
                (of (document (1))))))
    (to (true)))
where
(close (after (completion (of (document (1))))))
is interpreted as
(close ("insertion point" (after (completion (of (document (1)))))))
and this (close ...) construct is expected to return something to be set to true.
Of course this should fail at run-time with various reasons, which include the said coercion error (provided that "completion" is not mere user variable name but defined as constant in QuickTime Player X), but compiler doesn't care and happily yields a non-sense byte-code.

Photos won't show up in camera role & forever backups. Please help!

This has been going on for 3 months now and its really becoming a pain. The problem in itself is now a giant conundrum where I can't find a possible fix so here it goes!
It all started when I noticed that when I took a photo with the built in camera it would save it to the thumbnail but when you go to view it, it would not be in the camera role, though they all show up in iPhoto just fine . I understand that this is a problem had by many and its nothing new, and there are ways of fixing it but below is where the problem gets tricky.
As soon as I connect my iphone to the computer to sync the phone in order to find the BAD CACHE or whatever, The device goes into "backing up iPhone" mode (even after I've checked the manually manage music & video's box") This would be no problem if it would actually back something up but it dosen't. One time I actually left it alone to backup over night after it had already taken 4 hours of of my time sitting there watching the endless loading lines pass (it didn't even get to the part with the solid bar that shows progress) I checked it the next morning and it was still loading. After 13 hours for a single backup I called it quits and gave up. I've tried many times after hoping that it might fix itself, but each time it gets stuck in the "backing up" phase.
I know you can just restore it to factory settings for problems like this, but I can't, without losing all the stuff I've purchased that I can't sync to the computer because of the backup problem.
Can someone please walk me through a fix (where to look for the bad info caches or something) that dosen't include losing everything via a reset. I'm at my wits end with this problem and would really love if someone could help.
FYI, My phone is a 3GS and I have NOT updated, mostly because I can't. The software I believe is from the 3.0- 3.0-1 (I'm not sure which) It was the software that came with the phone that purchased back in August 09.

1) Turn off auto sync: go to itunes, Edit, Preferences, Devices, "Prevent syncing of...."
2) At the same place, youll see a list of all the backups. You can highlight and delete the ones you think are bad.
For the camera roll photos, you need to upload them from the iphone camera roll with iphoto (not a sync) as you would a digital camera, but turn off autossync first.
Once you have everything organized, you can try a restore and sync (in that order). But all your content must be on the itunes-equipped computer first.

I'm afraid it can't be undone unless you made a backup just before restoring the old backup. If you did then it's just a question of restoring it.

Droid Backup Assist--Please HELP!

I apologize in advance if this is a duplicate thread, but I'm desperate and on a time crunch....
My Droid (the original) decided it would stop working and somehow fried its hard drive; or so that's what the "tech" at my local Verizon branch said. I was really careful and had backup assistant as well as anti-droid theft installed, but now that the phone is trash I have no access to anything (including some very important documents). I am attempting to find someone that could honestly tell me if there is a way to use either backup assistant or anti droid theft to load all of my info that is on my droid to my computer, that is if it's even there at this point. I was unable to back any of the phones files/downloads previous to now because I didn't have a computer until a few months ago... I've been told there are ways to access the files and possibly load them to my computer without the phone itself working, but I have no clue as to how to do this. Could someone please help me out? I'm desperate!

A lot of your data should be on your SD card, the first step would be to pull that out of your phone and use a card reader with your computer to see what all is on it. As for what is on the internal storage (on the OG droid, that should be minimal), you may be out of luck. Hopefully you have your contacts synced with gmail, in that case, they will automatically sync with the new phone, as well as your applications (though unfortunately not the data that is associated with those apps).
