I know...
Depending on the master socket style, I presume you've removed the front lower cover and plugged the phone in to the test point, with a known to be good filter?
I've tried connecting to the livechat thanks, the wait is apparently 9mins (or 9hrs it didn't give the unit of time ) - any idea where they are based ?
To the best of my knowledge and experience, they're UK based
What does concern me is if the problem is at the exchange and is fixed as a result of ongoing work what proof would I have that the problem was a BT one. I think it's safe to assume they wouldn't release details of current jobs in the local exchange and network and faults seen in their OSSs to prove there wasn't a problem their end...?
Ongoing work? - Are BT Openreach working in your area?
From looking around these forums, if BT have discovered a fault, they're honest about it and will post enough relevant information for us to digest

  • Bring all call centres back to Britain.

I'm sure a number of us have contact with BT India. And speaking for myself, I have always had a lousy experience that never solved my problem. Everytime I felt like throwing my landline phone against the wall. Everytime I have spoken to someone who merely reads through a script like a robot. And is speaking in their second or third language which I would descibe as "broken english".
I do not blame these Indians. They are only doing their job. I blame the senior management at BT. Especially the accountants and especially this guy:
    http://www.btplc.com/thegroup/ourcompany/theboard/ourboard/index.htm
Ian Livingston who was once a bean counter at Dixons. He was boss of BT Retail when he offshored tons of call centre jobs to India. And he is now boss of the entire BT Group.
We need to start a petition. We need to make sure these people get the message that we had enough of BT's so called "technical support".

The UK based "customer care" as they like to call themselves, are just as bad if not worse than those based in India.
Every one of the customer care people i have spoken to here or in India lie like you cannot believe, never ever come across such liars in my entire life before, they bring bad customer service to a whole new level.

    Hello Noushin,
It sounds like you are unable to see your contacts in the phone, but have confirmed they are still at http://www.icloud.com. I would next try these troubleshooting steps from the article named:
    iCloud: Troubleshooting iCloud Contacts
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3998
If you're using iOS 7, quit and restart the Contacts app on your iOS device:
Press the Home button twice to see preview screens of the apps you have open.
Find the Contacts preview screen and swipe it up and out of preview to quit the application.
Tap the Home button to return to your Home screen.
Wait a minute before reopening the Contacts app.
Turn iCloud Contacts off and back on:
    Tap Settings > iCloud.
Turn Contacts off. Choose to delete data only if your data exists at icloud.com/contacts and on one or more of your devices. Otherwise, choose Keep Data.
Wait a few minutes before turning Contacts back on.
Restart your iOS device by holding down the Sleep/Wake button and then swiping the screen when prompted to power off. Then turn your device back on. This may sound simple, but it does reinitialize your network and application settings and can frequently resolve issues.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Regards,
    Sterling

I bought an iPhone 5 around fifteen days back and it has already started to give problem with the on/off button. I have to press it five six times to switch it on or off. I am so frustrated by the fact that if I bring it to the service centre, I am going to get a refurbished phone in place of my brand new phone which I just bought. The idea of a used phone repulses me. Any solutions ?

Why?  Your current phone is used... it has been since the instant it was removed from the shrink wrap and turned on.
    sumeshdua wrote:

Live with the phone as is.
Take the device to Apple for evaluation... it may not need replacement.
Even if it does, neither you or the Apple tech should be able to tell if the replacement is new or refurbished.

  • Moving the Call Centres to back UK?

There were a number of suggestions a while ago that BT were likely to move at least some of the call centre work back to the UK. It seems to have gone quiet about this.
Having just had a long tussle with some of our Asian friends on behalf of a client (there was eventually a satisfactory outcome after a number of calls when I eventually got to speak to someone in the UK who solved the issue in a couple of hours), I wondered if anyone knows whether it is going to actually happen . . . ?

    jjgraphics wrote:
You must have been very lucky with the BT Indian call centres.
Possibly, though I've only ever delt with them as a customer, and apparently not as often as you have. I can only speak as I find, as do you.
The quote from Sir Keith Watson, although historic, typifies the daft attitude in many businesses that price is the most important aspect of any service. It is not. Efficiency is most important and efficiency normally leads to lower costs. It is crazy to outsource these jobs to another country when we have people unemployed in the UK, many of whom would be pleased to have a call centre job.
My view is that if people could understand the call centre staff better and if the call centre staff were properly trained to do their job so that each problem was dealt with more efficiently and in a shorter time, far fewer staff would be needed and there would be no need to outsource the service to a country where a significant number of the staff are simply script readers have no real idea what they are doing.
All true, but all business owners/managers/company directors would disagree with you - the one's I've met anyway. Especially when it comes to price, and keeping business costs down, especially the costs of employing staff, or for that matter the costs of actually manufacturing a product in this country!
The key problem in this country has been that call centre jobs, like so many other jobs, are classed as a low paid, minimum wage, **bleep** job that no one really wants to do. Combine that with shift working, or unsociable hours, and you have a lethal cocktail that no UK worker will touch unless it's extremely well paid, their desperate to work, or the DHSS are forcing them to take the job at gunpoint! £5.80/hour simply won't cut it, and all you'll end up with is a high turnover of staff. And in that sort of working environment you can forget staff training! The people who are supposed to train either won't bother or only give you 5 minutes of their time and then watch you sink or swim. I mean, if this person is only going to stick around until they can get another job, or get pissed off and leave, or until they get knocked up by their spotty boyfriend and end up becoming a single mother living on benefits, what's the point in wasting the companies time, money and breath training this person? Plus, on top of that, you would also have to pay the UK employees national insurance, probably provide them with some sort of pension, maternity pay...
I saw this first hand, 15 years ago, in the electronics industry. This is why so many UK jobs have gone abroad. Employers simply can't get the quality of staff they perceive they want at the right price, plus the costs associated with running a business here are considered to be too high.
    Sad, but true.
Does anyone know anything about the move of the call centres back to the UK?
Have you tried directly asking the moderators this question?

Unfortunately I have as much trouble in understanding a geordie accent , an Irish Brogue and many other UK accents. it's more technical skills they need to be taught.
But I would still like the call centres back in this country , purely for the jobs it creates.

  • Bring back PDF Portfolio option to Acrobat Standard!

We are refreshing some department computers with newer models through Dell.  These new computers come with Adobe Acrobat X Std on them.  This works fine for most people until today.  Our one department had their older XP computers replaced with new Win 7 machines and Adobe Acrobat X standard.  They were dependant on a feature to right click on a bunch of PDFs and combine them.  They need the portfolio option because a regular combine will overwrite values in forms because "they have the same name".  This worked fine on the OLD machines with Adobe 9.5 Standard.
So on the new computers with Acrobat X Standard, this portfolio option is gone!  This is needed for their job!
Now I am scrambling to deactivate and uninstall X standard from the new computers ,and deactivate and uninstall 9.5 from the old ones.  Using Belarc Advisor to obtain the product key, I can reinstall it on the new computers, along with running all the umpteen patches to get 9.0 back up to the latest version.  Not only that but the right click context menu is gone, so I had to research that and find the command to get it back -> regsvr32 "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 9.0\Acrobat Elements\ContextMenu64.dll"
After doing some research it seems you have to spend extra money on a X or XI "professional" version, just to get a feature that was included in 9 STANDARD.  Shopping around the best price I could find was over at NewEgg for $120.  Multiple that by the people who need it, were looking at good amount of money to get back a single feature we had before!
So were going right back to Acrobat 9 standard because it does what we need it to do.  My plea to adobe is to bring back the portfolio feature!  Either that or don't screw up the contents of forms in a standard combine!
Is this the latest trend that new versions of software are designed to take away features or functionality that people depend on?  I mean even Windows 8 takes away the start menu (I know there's freeware to get it back).  Please don't stoop to Microsoft's level and remove thign's people depend on.

We are also going through some of the issues with Acrobat standard being gutted. In acrobat 9 standard we have some processes that used a function called "Export Multiple Files.." This allowed you function through a wizard to select as many files of many file types as you wanted and export them to a ton of file formats. I use this on a daily basis and now i am being told it is not available in the standard version. If i buy the PRO version it is available, but what will keep Adobe from from removing this from the Next version of PRO and call that PLATNUM or somthing. This not the way to treat long time customer who pay for and have developed many process using the tool. It is also sad to learn that Portfolio option is no longer available. We will have to go back to 9 until they figure this out. What a massive screw up.

  • How to get .oce to talk to DAS & bring back data in Interactive Reporting?

    Hi Hyperion Experts,
This is also a fairly basic question, I use Hyperion 9.3.1 and I have Shared Services, Workspace and Interactive Reporting Studio running on our Windows 2003 Server.
My goal is to import a .bqy document I created in Interactive Reporting Studio into workspace, and be able to click on the "refresh" button and see it refreshes the data from the backend Oracle 10g database.
I have completed the following steps so far,
    1. I have created a DSN. This DSN, named "Oracle 10g Data Source", when I clicked on "Test Connection" button, It ran successfully.
    2. I have created a new Datasource entry in the DAS service. If I double click on the newly created Datasource entry, the screen would display the following details.
    Connectivity Type = Oracle Net
    Database Type = Oracle
Enter the name of the Data source = Oracle 10g Data Source
Select the name of the Data source (it is grayed out, nothing selected)
Server/File (it is grayed out, nothing entered)
then, followed by some default connection parameters.
    3. I have created a "Oracle 10g Data Source.oce" file using the Interactive Reporting Studio. I saved the .oce file at
    C:\Hyperion\BIPlus\data\Open Catalog Extensions\Oracle 10g Data Source.oce
    4. I created a new constrProj_Oracle10gOCE.bqy, during the creation, I chose
"Create a new document with Recent Database Connection File" option, then I chose the Oracle 10g Data Source.oce that I have created in step 3. After I log in with host user/password, I have created a data model and I see that it brings back a data set when I clicked on the "process" button. I saved this .bqy document.
    5.
I imported the Oracle 10g Data Source.oce and constrProj_Oracle10gOCE.bqy into the workspace under a folder called
    Root/MYBI/Test
    6. I right click on the constrProj_Oracle10gOCE.bqy document, and chose "Open". It opened with Results section highlighted on the left hand side, and with data showing on the right hand side. However, when I clicked on the "refresh" button, I'd get a message box with a red X. It says,
An Interactive Reporting Service error has occurred -
    Failed to acquire requested service.
    (2001)
I guess the data I see in this constrProj_Oracle10gOCE.bqy was just the cached data that was brought back when I hit the process button of this .bqy when it was first created in the Studio, and that it never established any connection via the DAS service to the backend.
Could someone please show me what I have done wrong here?
    thanks,
    hypuser1010

    EricaHarris,
Yes, the issue is still open. Obviously, I have gone down the path of "Scenario One".
Based on your reply, I have done the following.
There are three things I am configuring here: DSN, DAS and OCE.
    1) When I created the DSN,
I started the ODBC Data Source Administrator, Click on second tab "System DSN". I added a new ODBC Data Source.
Data Source Name = Oracle 10g Data Source
    TNS Service Name = //146-abc.xyz.com:1521/MYORCL0617
    2) I re-created the DAS entry, per your suggestion, I made sure that "the name of the data source will be the host name you specified in your OCE".
    Connectivity Type = Oracle Net
    Database Type = Oracle
Enter the name of the data source= //146-abc.xyz.com:1521/MYORCL0617
    3) for my OCE, I specified
    Connection Software = Oracle Net
    type of Database = Oracle
    on the first screen.
then, on the next screen, I specified
    Host = //146-abc.xyz.com:1521/MYORCL0617
I reployed the OCE, the .bqy document and restarted DAS. Yes, my .bqy document does refresh its data successfully from the backend.
However, I am not 100% convinced that the .bqy uses the OCE which talks to the DAS, which talks to the DSN entry and brings data back to the .bqy document.
    Here is what I did,
I opened up the DSN entry, changed the TNS Service Name from //146-abc.xyz.com:1521/MYORCL0617 to
//146-abc.xyz.com:1521/NONSENSE. I then restarted DAS and redeployed the .bqy document. the .bqy document is still able to refresh its data. So, I have just proven that the .bqy document does not need a valid DSN entry to work, how come??
Can you (or anyone) please explain the phenomenon that I see?
Also, a very basic question. you know that when you create a .bqy in the Studio, you "import" an OCE into the .bqy document so that the .bqy knows that it should use this OCE to talk to the backend data source. but, when you deploy this .bqy in workspace, how does the .bqy know that it is supposed to go through DAS (and DSN) to interact with the database, rather than the "internal" OCE that was pre-built with this .bqy?
    thanks,
    hypuser1010

  • Amazingly bad service from call centre today - can...

Just spent 31 minutes on phone to the call centre in India.  Must have explained a dozen times to different people that having been sent a brand new mark 3 router on Friday it doesn't work.  No power from adaptor I'd suggest.  BT's suggestions was to go to local market and buy a new adpator !!!  Incorrectly palmed off to a BT vision help desk then back to broadband desk who started list of unplug it, wait for 2 minutes, plug it in... blah blah blah.
Please please if there is a BT moderator out there then send me a replacement router / adaptor.  Your broadband is fine, works reliably and quick but your help desk is appaling if ever a customer needs help..
At least the old mark 1 router still works......

  • BRING BACK THE BEST EVER!

I don't understand WHY Adobe would buy the bestever software
    and NOT USE it?!
FreeHand had Layers BEFORE Photoshop and many others!!
It also had Style Sheets, Superior Tools, and multiple pages
    which Illustrator still doesn't have!!??
PLEASE BRING BACK FREEHAND, I'M SUFFERING THROUGH

You guys have to remember that its only been a few years
since Macromedia changed hands to Adobe. I've been a user of FH
since it was Aldus FH in the late 80's and AI since 3.0 and have
seen them both grow just like any other software and every time
they changed hands they got better because of software
    integrations.
You dont' buysoemthing becasue you want tothrow it away
youwant touse it to your advantage Adobe is big and not because
they go around killing other companies.
I beleive AI has many new features that resemble FH but the
multi page is a big pain in the bahooky I agree and the drawing
tools well like using a swiss army knife and one tool needs to be
put away before the next can come out. FH still has alot of cons
which leads me to believe that they are not done with AI and things
will change. How else do you think they will sell the new CS4.
Look at Image Ready, Adobe gave that the boot and I thought
it was pretty bad *** but when I saw why and took a look at
Fireworks I said well looky there and well with whole Dream Weaver
working practically seamlessly with PS, I just had to switch from
MS Expression Web to Adobe Web Premium. I've been using MSFP since
98 and switched to MSEW and well I'll leave that nightmare of a
    quagmire alone.
I think Adobe has made a great effort to keep Macromedia's
strengths alive Like Flash and how they integrated PSDs and AI
files dynamically and well not to mention the After Effects
workflow with Flash and heaven almighty I almost forgot how Encore
can output a completed DVD and all of the menus to a flash SWF file
    crack-a-laken I say.
I know it sounds like I'm cheerleading but I am not they did
a good thing. I have always been a proponent of Macromedia but when
you look at the big picture Adobe truley has gone the distance with
    the Macormedia products.
I am still holding out for all of the FH cons to be added to
AI. I mean how else do think they are going to get us to upgrade to
AI CS4 or what ever they call it.
I still use FH11 and it works fantastical and will probably
never uninstall it less AI becomes Adobe Free Hand Illustrator and
I mean truley the best of both.
I think it will happen they'ld be stupid not to. Cha-Ching!

  • Bring back the 5th gen.

Honestly, I didn't know where to put this.
But I really dislike the new iPod nanos.
And I can't find any of the 5th gen.
    So I say to Apple:
Please bring back the 5th gen nanos!

Or you could buy the iPad, that has a way, way bigger screen.
Going to be really tough to put controls on that size screen and still be able to see what is happening. Could make game play really challenging.
Yes, Apple did make a big deal out of the video capability, but in the final analysis they could not keep pace with Flip and I doubt anybody actually bought a 5th Generation Nano because it had less than mediocre video capabilities. I use the video on mine about 3 times. Nice novelty.
Glad you think the 5th Generation was the epitome of the Nano, and you can buy from Amazon, or buy refurbished. At least while they are still available. I thought the most recent iteration of the Thunderbird was a nice car. Apparently not enough people agreed with me. I also thought the Adventures of Briscoe County was a great show. Fox? Not so much, nor did it have any ratings.
I like working out with my 6th Generation Nano, it is small, I can see the screen to change playlists rather than use VoiceOver, I can check the time, I can set timers. Hard to do all of these things with the Shuffle (although I actually run with my Shuffle instead). Honestly, the 6th Generation is far superior to the Shuffle when working out at the gym. I'm guessing you don't work out much. Honestly, it is much better and is just how things should be in my opinion.
Ever here of a thing called supply and demand? Ever collect anything? Ever buy artwork? Once an item is no longer available and there is a demand for it then it will sell at above list price. You can buy the refurbished ones for less than the new 5th Generation Nano and they are just as good, if not superior to, the new ones.
But in the end who knows. Apple went back to the 2nd Generation Shuffle design with the 4th Generation so maybe you will get your wish with the 7th Generation Nano. Wait until September.
