Bringing LT into FCE.

Coming back to a project after a time away, FCE lost a LT import. Reconnect and I found it (right where it belonged) but the Connect button was grayed out. I trashed the LT file and its inputs (pix, video). Started from scratch and built it again. Try to import into FCE and get
"File Error: 1 file(s) recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown"
I did it three times and get the same result. The LiveType files, its input files, and FCE captures are all stored on an external HD. Sniffing about, I found I had a bunch of permissions that needed repairing. Repaired them and rebooted. Deleted the LT of interest and its inputs. Built another using only text. Tried to import to FCE and again it failed.
Here is what I am doing: With FCE open and my flic accessed, launch LT. Create a two-word, two-line title, transparent background. Save it on the ext HD with the name "next game.ipr." Go back to FCE, click File, Import, navigate to next game.ipr and click. Get File Error: etc.
What to do? Thank you

It sounds like you're working in the proper order. When you trashed preferences did you quit Live Type first, then drag the file named "com.apple.LiveType.plist" to the Trash?
If so, then go ahead and repair your permissions. Go to Applications>Utilities>Disk Utility and select your system drive click on repair permission and when it's done re-boot your your system drive.

  • Best way to get rendered footage from 3D app into FCE

I want to render footage from my 3D app (Cinema 4D,usually in TIFF sequences, rather than QT movies) and bring it into FCE for editing, color correcting, and possible compositing.
What format will FCE accept? I tried this scenario with iMovie and no matter what settings I used in rendering from the 3D app, the image was blurry in iMovie.
    Looks fine in Quicktime, though.
    I don't own FCE, yet, so I can't experiment.
    Thanks.

    Hi(Bonjour)!
DV and HDV (Apple intermediate codec) are compressed formats.
You must understand that FCE HD can only works in format aimed to TV set output (compressed formats).
The best quality to outfput animation movie from 3D app is... Quicktime animation codec. It retains alpha channel and give best color rendering, but give pretty large files.
Altough your animation movie looks sharp, FCE HD convert it (render) to fit the sequence format (DV or HDV: suited for TV set monitor, thus compressed). So the result will be a compressed one. That's the way FCE HD handle all material inserted in sequence.
To avoid rendering in FCE, select the same format as your FCE sequence from your 3D app (DVCPro NTSC, or Apple Intermediate Codec 1080i60). By choosing the same format (DV or HDV (AIC), you choose the same compression quality however.
Final Cut Pro can handle a myriad of formats from heavely compressed mpeg to uncompressed HD. So if you put a uncompressed animation codec into a sequence with same settings, the output will be uncompressed.
If your aimed distribution format is DVD, the result will be compressed anyway to standard def format. Go with FCE HD confidently.
If you want to distribute on computer screen, DV is not a good way to go, but HDV(AIC) can give good results with Quicktime convertion to H.264 codec in full or half frame size. FCE HD can do the job.
Although DV is not best viewable on computer screen, you can produce quicktime H.264 with small frame size, say half or quarter size.

  • Question about bringing Hi8 movies into FCE

I have many 8mm tapes dating back, 5-15 years. I would like to bring the footage into FCE and then brun them to DVD before I lose too much quality (we have watched them many times over the years).
I read that I would require a TBC device. I am not familiar with this device, or what it does, or how it works.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/TJ555LL/A
Can someone explain to me how I would connect this to my Imac and the process of using it to convert my old tapes?
    Thank you
    -Mike

If yours is a digital-8 camera, you can capture from the camera. If it's not, then you can't; the footage must be digitized by some device between your camera and your Mac. (If you have a dv camera, you could connect 8mm cam to dv cam, dub to dv, then capture from dv cam directly.) In any event, one hour of dv footage is about 13GB.
My suggestion is to look somewhere OTHER THAN an Apple store for a better price on the converter. Do an online search.

  • Footage has to be imported into FCE first?

I have a lot of DV footage that I captured into iMovie and it has been saved at QT files DV format. When I bring the raw footage in from my hard drive and play it back from within FCE...the video plays for 2seconds then pauses constantly.
Do I have to recapture all of my footage directly into FCE for it to work properly?

About 1 year ago, I imported all of footage from my DV camcorder into iMovie '06. Then I exported the footage as a quicktime file set in the DV format. So, when I either import or open the QT file from within FCE4, it comes into the main window and then I drag it over into the preview window and hit play. It plays but constantly plays, then pauses or I guess as you say that is considered dropping frames?
So, perhaps that is my problem is that I imported the footage already into iMovie '06 and now it is dropping frames because I have not exported it properly from the beginning when I was archiving all of my DV footage from a year ago?
Just wondering if you recommend me re-importing all of my film into FCE.

  • How to import .mpg files into FCE ?

I have succesfully installed the MPEG StreamClip & flip4mac into my iMac. So now I can both play wmv files on my iMac as well as importing wmv files into iMovie & FCE.
But now I have another problem:
    1) How do I play mpg files on my iMac ?
    2) How do I bring import mpg files into FCE ?
    Thank you.

QTPro gives you many more capabilities than the free player, but I don't think you need it to do anything you've described. You DO need the MPEG-2 Playback component. I'd start there, then see if you need any of the options provided by QTPro.
    Hi there,
I have purchased the MPEG-2 Playback component from the Apple Store.
I can now convert the mpg files to mov using the MPEG StreamClip.
However, I cannot playback the original mpg files using QuickTime Player. I can only playback the original mpg files if I click on the mpg file then goto more info & change open with MPEG StreamClip.
But how do I open with QuickTime MPEG-2 playback ? I do not even know where the OS installed the MPEG-2 Playback component to ?
    Thanks

  • How do i import 480x360 ipad video into fce?

I'm trying to import video from my ipad into fce. Is there a way to set up my sequence with 480x360 parameters? I'd rather not have to render it when bringing it in.
    Thanks,
    Bob

" Is there a way to set up my sequence with 480x360 parameters?"
    No.
That size should be transcoded to a size that is the same as an FCE Easy Setup.
I'd use a DV Easy Setup.

  • Photoshop images into FCE

Hi - I am trying to import images into FCE but am having a difficult time.  I have clipped around a medicine ball and gotten rid of the background, so that it in the video it would appear as though I am holding the medicine ball.  When I bring the image into FCE, the medicine ball has a black, square border around it.  I have done this with a few different images and the same thing happens.  Any suggestions?

Did you save the image in a format that supports background transparency?  TIFF, PSD and PNG will work.

  • Importing HDV file on external hard drive into FCE

I want to bring an HDV file made in FCP into FCE and I keep getting codec messages. He emailed the Apple Intermediate codec and told me to go to my mac hard drive, click on library, click on quicktime and drag the codec in there. I did that but it still wont open. I get audio, but no video. Please give suggestions. Thanks

If you have FCE you already the Apple Intermediate Codec. FCP can edit HDV natively. In it's native form using Apple's HDV codec you can't edit this media in FCE.
It is illegal to transfer QuickTime components from one machine to another.

  • Brining .avi into FCE 3.5

I have about a dozen DV tapes that I captured on my PC with Pinnacle Studio, which captures in .avi
Obviously, these are huge files on my old PC hard drive..
Will I be able to bring this footage into FCE and edit it ? I wasn't able to do so with imovie.
I tried using QT Pro to export the footage as mpeg-2, but then the quality was poor.
Am I better off recapturing all the DV tapes directly in FCE ?
    Thanks
    Frank

FCE is a DV and HDV application. While it's possible to convert AVI videos to DV, you will find the results much better if you just recapture directly into FCE from your original tapes.
If you want to try the conversion route, you will need Flip4Mac Pro or a similar utility. However if the material was originally captured using Pinnacle's MPEG 1/2 setting, you'll never get quality that will match an original capture to DV.

  • Importing a powerpoint presentation into FCE

I need to import a powerpoint presentation into fce. Can it be done? What does it look like? Do I need to tweak anything to make it the best possible image? Is there any online source available to learn how to do it? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. many thanks. Eileen

    Agreed.
I was stuck continually doing PP Presentations and was so limited in what I was able to do. You will notice that PP on an Apple does allow you to do Quicktime transitions.... anyways.
I did finally buy Keynote (purchase iWork and it comes with Pages - Microsoft Word equivalent, however, also much better) and you can bring PP into it and do what the before was mentioned.
I am curious though... is the only reason you want to bring a PP Preso into FCP is so you have it as a movie...? Do you want to also control transitions and animations...? You would be off much easier within Keynote and have much more control as far as exporting as a .mov or .pdf and the likes; Keynote is extensive. But if it is really for stills... you can "Save As..." in PP as JPEG, and PP will kickout each slide (with or without transitions) as single jpeg files (set your resolution high...) and then obviously import the jpegs into FCP, and have still images do things....
Hope this helps, but truly you are better off with the $99.00 purchase and trump to Keynote - I got my whole office hooked!!
    Sincerely, Jeffrey

  • Importing mt2s into FCE

I understand that FCE does not natively read mt2s files. My problem here is that we're working on a group project, and the other participants are bringing their files over as mt2s. So, what do I need to do to get this to a format that FCE can read?

As mentioned above, the cameras are NOT AVCHD, they are HD. The cameras themselves are compatible with iMovie, FCE and FCP. That's not the problem. The issue is with the files brought in from my associates on CD and DVD. They are mt2s files which FCE and iMovie cannot read.
This is a video project where several people have segments of their own video to edit, and we bring them all together as one complete unit on one machine. I happen to have that machine. So what I'm getting is not raw video, but an edited sequence complete with music, cuts and overdubs.
Back to the previous suggestion: I've loaded Streamclip and the Quicktime component. The good news is that I've been able to read, convert and import into FCE the m2v file. Which was the highest quality file that he brought over. So that gets the job done. Thank you guys. However, for the record, I still can't read the m2ts file. But that's OK, I'll advise the rest of the project team to give me m2v files, which I believe they can do without any issues.
    Thanks again. Much appreciated.

  • Importing projects from iMovie HD into FCE HD?

Ok Guys, I know this is a pretty hot/touchy topic around here but I thought I would start a new topic as I am not even getting past step 1 as discussed in several posts and in the way that apple advertise!?
I am using the latest versions of both apps... 5.0.2 and 3.0.1. I follow the instructions as described in the manual (page 139) and FCE shuts down (quit unexpectedly)?
Also... how do i open the 'project/movie' in quicktime? do I have to do a massive export first!?
    Cheers,
    Al

Hey Tom, Thanks for the speedy reply!
I have a very basic project with a title sequence (8secs) and about 7 mins of edited video sequences in the time line from which I have extracted the audio. (so, a title sequence, 1 video track, 1 audio track). It contains no unauthorized material and no music, iTunes etc.
The reason I want to continue my project in FCE is that i want to utilize more video and audio tracks than iMovie can handle... and I'd rather not start again because I have already made about 50 edits which would take a while to redo.
Surely I can take my existing iMovie timeline sequence and import that into FCE. I am going to redo the titles/text, so it's only the video (and audio from the video) that i want exported.
    Is this in anyway possible?
    Regards
    Al

  • Importing clips from Imovie into FCE - Clips don't match

    Hi
OK I have been successfully importing Imovie clips into FCE, but have recently hit a problem. I make a rough edit in IMovie but when I open the imported file in FCE I get different footage to that which sits in the IMovie project.
Yes I am opening the right clips

    nothing?
ok I have worked around it a little by importing all the footage and that way I get most of it but still not all of it makes it through

  • What setup do I use to import files from my hard drive into FCE 4.0.1?

I can import files (HD from Canon camera, saved as QuicktimeMov - ratio 1920 x1080, 25fps) to FCE but they show up as needing rendering.
(red line above timeline)  What should my settings be to make them compatible to FCE?  I have it set on Apple Codec Intermediate 1920x1080i50 with HD format.
Have tried all the settings but come up with the same result.  Also, do I need to compress my files before I import them to FCE?
    Thanks.

Video from the 550D (acually, all Canon DSLRs) cannot be used directly in FCE.  There is a Canon EOS plugin that allows you to directly Log & Transfer from the DSLR into Final Cut Pro, but the plugin does not work with Final Cut Express.
In order to use the 550D video in Final Cut Express you will need to convert it to QuickTime/Apple Intermediate Codec by using a utility such as MPEG Streamclip or Clipwrap.  You need to do this before you import the video into FCE.
Even though the 550D saves video as .mov files (QuickTime files) it uses a Canon H.264 codec which is why it needs to be transcoded into Apple Intermediate Codec before you can use it in FCE.

  • My current os x is 10.9.5, using final cut express vers. 4.0.1.  I have imported .mov clips created with a older mac os x (lion) and converted them to import into fce. after doing this as well as putting clips on the fce timeline when playing back t.h

My current os x is 10.9.5, using final cut express vers. 4.0.1.  I have imported .mov clips created on a older mac os x (lion) and when I wanted to import them into fce, a quicktime conversion window opened up and converted them (I haven't experienced this in the past). I then imported the converted quicktime clips into my fce project.  After doing this I took selected clips and put those edited clips on the fce timeline.  When playing the video back in the fce timeline,I noticed
    1) the video wasn't playing back smoothly like the original content
    2) when looking at the timecode reading of the timeline, the timecode was sputtering as well as the video and audio.  I exported to quicktime just to see if that was consistent, it was.
When I play the converted quicktime content independently of fce,  it plays normally (no sputtering of timecode, video and audio.  Need help to resolve the sputtering playback of converted video content in the fce timeline.  I've never experienced this before.  Any suggestions?

When you say you converted the clips before importing them into FCE, did you convert to AIC or DV and do the converted clips match your FCE Sequence settings exactly?  If not, go back and convert the original files again, using the intended Sequence settings as a guide.
