Broken airport antenna

The internal antenna on my airport extreme card broke. would an apple store be able to fix it?

An Apple service center could fix it - and that could be arranged via your local Apple Store.

  • How do I fix broken airport antenna?

I have an older G5 tower, 1.8GHZ, and the airport is not working. External antenna is broken. Does anyone know how to remove the broken antenna?

If there is any portion of the antenna body protruding out of the connector, you should be able to just pull it out.  You may need to use a pair of pliers, but it should come out.  If you have completely broken off the antenna and only have the connector remaining, then you might be able to pull the shell out with very small needlenose pliers, though the center conductor might be a bit of a problem.

  • Broken airport antenna female plug?

So, my airport t-antenna's needle plug broke. I replaced it with a wire safety pin. Worked wonerfully. The wifi connection was just as good, and it was cheaper than spending $40 on a new t-antenna.
Unfortunately, today, I knocked it out accidentally and now when I place it back in it just falls out. It's loose. It doesn't hold itself in. And even when I hold it in, it doesn't pick up a signal. I have no idea what's wrong.
Is there any way I can fix it?

buy a USB WiFi adapter, make sure it is compatable with your version of OS,  cheaper faster more efficient than airport.

  • Mac Pro airport antenna replacement?

Is it possible to replace the macpro airport antenna located at the bottom?
I need a replacement. The airport cable that leads to the antenna has been broken becouse I installed an extra hard disk and the cable was lying over the HD's connector. Also is this under warranty? I broke it, but that cable was not properly placed.

I just called apple support, and they also say I need to replace the complete case. BUT a couple months ago, someone showed me the macpro service manual and there was a complete guide on how to replace this part. Sadly enough, I can't contact the guy who showed me the manual. How strange is that?

  • Is it manitory to have an airport antenna or can you use it without the antenna (powermac g5 dual processor 10.4.11)

On the PowerMac G4 I had it had to be connected, but not sure about the model you have.  My guess would be yes due to shielding in the case, but would rather wait and hear from someone else.

  • Internal Airport Antenna

    Hey
During my move the movers droped my g5. Lucky for me not to hard...but some wires are loose now.
I connected them all back but now the tricky one.
My airport antenna wire is loose. And its not the part that connects with the card itself. But its the other end, that goes inside the logic board. My question is. Does anyone know where to put it back in?because i really don't! Thanks guys!

I figured out that there is a antenna port where the wire should be connected to. No i just figure out how...the where part is solved

  • G5 Airport Antenna Alternative

    Hi Guys
I have finally managed to install an airport card, but haven't got a very good signal strength, I'm aware there is an apple antenna available, I have seen a few on ebay, but wondered if there was an alternative, i.e buy an antenna which will fit the connector? Does anyone know what type of connection it is? and if is a common enough connection and if antenna are readily available...
    Thanks for your help guys
    Darren

I just got the AirPort card for my G5.1.6 GHz and also picked up the Apple AirPort antenna on ebay for it. Even with the original antenna on the back of the G5 I've still got very weak signal, however, I should state that my G5 is in my recording studio two floors down from my office where the other iMac with an airport extreme card is acting as a software base station.
I did just purchase the AirPort Antenna extender that is shown as a link in the previous responders message. It looks like I just take the AirPort Antenna out of the back of the G5, then plug it into the socket on the extender which allows it to be stuck to a wall higher off the ground. The other end of the extension cable goes into the airport antenna jack on the back of the G5.
I hope this works and I don't have to get something more powerful.
Good luck with your quest for wireless access.
    Regards,
    John

  • Macbook Airport Antenna Wires

I bought a replacement airport card for my Macbook because I was having so many wireless issues. The problem is that my Macbook (which I believe is a mid or late 2007 model) has 3 airport antenna wires, but the replacement card (which is dated 2006) has only 2 antenna wire connectors. Is there a wire that I can leave detached and still have the antenna function as normal? Thank you for your time.

  • Built in iBook Airport antenna

Just a quick question: is it possible to connect the built-in airport antenna in the screen with a different wireless adapter, other than Airport? (I was thinking that if I extended the wire a bit and took apart a USB wireless adapter I could connect the Airport antenna to it to increase range/connectivity)

It should be possible. You'd have to find a USB wifi adaptor with an antenna jack, and put the right connector on the internal antenna lead.
But if you just wanted to increase range, wouldn't it be easier to add a better antenna to the Airport Card? Check out these links:

  • Airport antenna -second gen iMac-G5

I am unable to locate where the antenna wire is located on a second gen iMac-G5 -20" 2.0 Ghz M9845LL/A. There is no separate airport card in this model ?
I am having difficulty with signal level so I thought it might be ralted to loose
    antenna connection .

I think I have the same problem with a friends iMac G5 with ambient light sensor. 17 model. The motherboard looks nothing like the ones on the manuals. I think the airport card is part of the motherboard. So the airport card is broken, thus causing kernel panicks. You can boot in safe boot mode and it works fine since it disables airport.
So now people who own these machines with built in cards are screwed. They can't just replace the extreme card with another one. You'll need to replace the logic board. You can't add a USB wireless card because you can't remove the built in airport card to get rid of it. So what do they do now?

  • Broken airport wire

the wire on my airport is broken, ius there a way that this can be fixed?
    or is my computer screwed?

the wire can be replaced, but it involves taking the computer apart to the last nut and bolt, pretty much. So you'd want to find someone comfortable in doing that. ifixit.com may have new antenna for sale.

  • Replacing airport antenna on eMac

My daughter was having trouble getting a good wireless connection with her eMac. We took the airport extreme card out and notice that the small copper wires coming out of the connection end of the antenna were frayed. We tried to straighten them but they broke off. No she can get no wireless connection unless the base station is sitting next to her computer. Can I get a replacement antenna and is something I can replace myself?

If the connector end of the antenna has broken off, that's a difficult repair at best. The connection you can get as is if what the Airport card itself can pick up, minus its antenna. The Airpirt antenna is a wire look running aling the edge of the front of the chassis; replacement would require disassembling the eMac pretty throughly. That's not even mentioned in the eMac service manuals that I can remember. Opening up the eMac to the level required to get at the antenna cable would also expose you to the dangerous voltages held by the CRT/analog assembly (especially the CRT yoke). Unless you are really, really confident with using a discharge tool and with taking computers apart (easy) and getting them back together (no so easy), you may want to search "bridge connector" instead. That would cost you less than a proper Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP). I doubt you'd want to jury-rig your own external wireloop using the broken-off connector and a Dremel tool to cut a hole near the optical tray drawer to pass the replacement wire outside the eMac's Airport slot.

  • Missing Airport Antenna!!!

Sorry for having double posted, but I inadventently put this in the Intel based iMac forum. I'm installing an Airport Extreme Card in my iMac G5 20". Trouble is, there is no antenna! It's just plain not there! Any ideas short of taking it to the Apple Store? Am I missing something? I'm not replacing the card; it's never had an Airport Card. This is a first time install some years after purchase. Please do not refer me to the install instructions; I've read them and I even have my original manuals. I wouldn't be having the problem if the antenna were present, but it isn't there!
    matt

    Hey Daddy,
The machine is a 1st Gen iMac G5 20". I can't find a document that shows the course of the antenna, just where the connector is supposed to exit the Airport Card slot.
My iMac had the bad capacitor problem that plagued that run and had the logic board replaced by Apple about 18 months ago. More recently, I had the bad power supply problem that also plagues that run of units and that was also replaced by Apple. Other than that, I've swapped hard drives and added RAM, but nothing else. I assume that the antenna was there at some point, but I had no reason to look before. I inadvertantly posted the same question on the Intel-based iMac board and someone there suggested that when the logic board was replaced they probably forgot to pull the antenna back around. Sounds like I'm headed back to the Apple Store.

  • Macbook a1181 airport antenna cable socket problem

Was replacing cracked screen on Macbook A1181 and in the process (quite unfortunately), both black and white antenna cables for the airport card were yanked from (ripped out of) their metal sockets.  Tried to delicately feed the cables back into their respective socket without success, and unsure how to proceed.  Is it possible to recrimp these cables into the sockets (and if so, anyone have a video for the required microsurgery?)?  Or do they have to be soldered in?  Would really prefer not to have to buy new parts but perhaps these are now wrecked?  Thanks for any advice...

Maybe something on this page will help:
