Broken links with PDF Portfolio

When I've created links within Adobe Acrobat to another document that's already within the Adobe Portfolio sometimes the links don't properly source to the correct page number. Instead, the link will source to the correct document but then filter to the first page rather than the page number that I set the link up with. Also, sometimes the link will break and will instead source to the home page rather than the requested document. Has anyone come across this issue or developed any workarounds?

When creating the links (using the Link tool), you need open rather than just preview the destination file.

  • How do I correct a problem with PDF Portfolio Links

    Problem with links.
    Converting a page from MSWord to PDF is presenting problems:
    I have changed preferences to deselect the Convert Word Bookmarks option;
    The straight conversion retains the links;
    Adding the file to PDF portfolio breaks the latest link;
    Using the link tool and go to page option tries to open the page (file) but I receive instruction to download Acrobat Reader 9 (I already have the latest reader installed (9.3), have checked it and repaired it);
    Attempting to download the Reader (I cannot move on – the page is full screen and will not be minimised) the download is blocked at the end.
    I have rebuilt the Portfolio from scratch but the problem persists.
    I have run a full (extended) bench test on all my hardware – no significant problems found.
    MSWord docx. saved in html and converted back to MSword
    New doc converted to PDF with minimum preferences
    Converted doc copied to portfolio
    No change
    Portfolio opened in PDF reader
    No Change
    Acrobat 9.3 uninstalled and replaced with original Acrobat 9
    No Change
    PDF Printer driver checked – OK
    Full virus scan run
    The Portfolio updating from MSWord is a procedure which I have repeated many times in the past without any problem.
    I cannot move forward, all attempts to solve the problem have failed.

  • Relinking broken links with JSX

    Okay,
    Say I have a series of folders and I have linked art and the files they are linked to all mixed up in these folders. My file structure is as such;
    myFiles\HH01000-01999\HH01000-HH01099\HH001001.PDF
    and now I need to change the file structure to this;
    myFiles\HH\HH01000-01999\HH01000-HH01099\HH001001.PDF
    adding the folder HH breaks the links.
    What is the best way to identify the broken link and change its path with JSX? Anybody got any ideas?

    Thanks Carlos,
    this is how i ended up getting it done.
    function changeLinkedArt () {
        linkedPath = app.activeDocument.placedItems;
        outcome = 0;
    for(i=0; i < linkedPath.length; i++) {
        linkedPathArray = linkedPath[i].file.path.split("/");
        for(j=0; j < linkedPathArray.length; j++) {
            if(linkedPathArray[j] === "HH") {
                outcome = 1;
        if (outcome === 0) {
            fileName = linkedPath[i].file.toString();
            linkedFileArray = fileName.split("/");
            for(k=0; k < linkedFileArray.length; k++) {
                if(linkedFileArray[k] === "illustrations") {
                    linkedFileArray[k] = linkedFileArray[k] + "/HH";
                    NewIndexLine = linkedFileArray.join("/");
                    //alert(NewIndexLine);
                    linkedPath[i].file=File(NewIndexLine);
        outcome = 0;
    modified an adobe script to open all files in a folder and run the script on all of them.
    wanted to build some arrays to change all files in multiple folders but i could not get the ".getFiles( fileType );" to take a path instead of the Folder.selectDialog.
    thats the only thing that bugs me.

  • Initial View issues with PDF portfolio

    I am creating a pdf portfolio in Acrobat 10.1.1.  The layout is Freeform, when I save it and email it to clients, it never opens to the same size, depending on their screen size or window size, it either stretches or squeezes the file folders and the become out of place (and cover up other things).  Is there a way to set the properties of the pdf portfolio so that it always opens up to a certain size?  there for no matter what size the monitor is my clients use, it will open to how its designed?  I know you can set up pdfs to open up at 100%, 500%, fit to window, actual size, etc.. but I want to take those properties and apply it to the pdf portfolio..
    Thanks

    Hi "the Conditioner",
    For a FreeForm portfolio you can set the default size of the icons ("cards").
    You may want to play around with the options to see what works best for you.
    To change the size of the cards, do the following:
    1. Open the portfolio.
    2. Ensure you are in "Layout" mode. You can click the "Layout" button to do so.
    3. Click the Edit button.
    4. On the upper right menu, click Layout to bring up the Layout panel.
    5. At the very bottom of the Layout panel is the "Portfolio Properties".
    6. Change the "Card Size".
    Your choices are Small, Medium, Large and Auto-Size.
    7. Save the portfolio. Close the portfolio (don't close Acrobat).
    Resize the Acrobat window. Open the portfolio (File > Open or from the recent files list) and see how it looks in different size windows.
    Hope this helps,

  • Broken links with index keywords

    Using RH 8, I have 20 broken links associated with index keywords. can someone advise how to easily get rid of these broken links?
    Many thanks

    I assume you are talking about links to index keywords rather than unused index keywords. If so, you have references to those index keywords somewhere inside your project. Your options are to repair the links or remove the references. If you right click on each broken link there are options to Edit, Restore and Show References which will help you find out what is going on.

  • Resolve Broken Links with No Reference

    I have many broken links in a webhelp project that I cannot
    resolve because there is no reference. Is there a way to delete
    broken links?

    Hi, I have a similar problem and cannot seem to get rid of a
    bunch of broken links.
    Basically at some point this project file had an html
    subfolder that was taken out. Consequently many topics had
    html\<topicname>.htm and then became <topicname>.htm.
    My problem is now that these files with the html\ folder are
    under broken links and now don't reference or link to anything if I
    right-click on them. I cannot restore them, delete them, or edit
    them in any way.
    I find that it is also creating problems when the WebHelp is
    generated and put on our server, several topics give a "file not
    found" error because they are searching for html\ in the filename
    and of course cannot find it. I have fixed these by searching and
    getting rid of any reference to \html in the topic files, but a few
    still don't link properly. Even after creating a new table of
    contents and re-linking all topics and images it does the same, AND
    has these broken links still listed.
    Any ideas? I realize this may be several problems. I think
    someone in the past deleted the html folder outside of RoboHelp and
    it messed everything up. We are taking about a Help file with over
    700 topics, so it is a real beast to work with.
    Thanks,
    Joel

  • Broken links when PDF'ing from Structured Framemaker 8.0 in Windows XP

    We have a large number of links in our documents that are created using structured Framemaker 8.0 in a Windows XP environment. The xrefs work fine in FM, but once they have been PDF'd all of the links are broken. Since these are large documents, it can take over a day to relink everything.  All links are created using the fm-xref tag and link to other topics/items within the FM book.
    Any suggestions for what may be the problem?
    I am also posting this in the Framemaker forum.

    The Set Destination option isn't working for us either.
    This is what we are seeing:
    In our source doc, a cross-reference is created using the fm-xref structured tag. At that point the cross-reference works. We create a series of topics using cross-references the same way.
    These topics are assembled into ditamaps.  The cross-references are still working.
    A book is then created and all ditamaps are created as chapters within the book.
    At this point, the fm-xrefs stop working. In some cases, they were converted to xrefs instead of retaining the fm-xref tag. At this point, some of the formatting is ignored.  For example, an example tag that looks lovely in the left column, suddenly becomes a Heading 1 which is a chapter heading.
    Needless to say, the frustration level is very high.  I would attach, but it appears that .fm or book files are not an acceptable file type.
    Please help us. It may be something terribly simple, that we just can't see anymore because we're cross-eyed from troubleshooting.
    We love FM and would like to continue to use it, but not if it causes this type of frustration. In fact, we're considering becoming nurses.

  • Preview seems having problem with relative link with PDF documents

    Hello,
    I have a PDF file which I've added relative hyperlinks to it (to an html file). I did it with Adobe Acrobat 7.0 (for Windows). I have a link which is a custom action: Open a web link. The link is defined as "../presentation/referencesechelon8.html". I need relative link because the entire web site can be deployed on a DVD instead of on a Web server.
    On Windows with Firefox or IE everything is working flawlessly. On the Mac side, it's working with Safari since it's using Adobe Reader to read the PDF. However, with other browsers using Mac built-in PDF viewer, Preview 3, it is not working at all. In the pdf document Preview 3 is unable to reconstruct the original url from the relative link. Instead it points to http://../presentation/referencesechelon8.html which is not correct.
    Does anyone have an idea? I've googled a lot and did not find anything. My next try will be to use a Javascript to reconstruct the url.
    Thank you in advance!

  • Cannot open link with PDF in windows7

    I got a new computer with windows 7( 64 bits) and I have got the latest version for Acrobat reader (Windows 7/English 10.1.3). When I search for a web page and I get links that contain PDF documents, I cannot open the PDF docs.  The Adobe reader tries to open the document but it generates the following error message:
    "There is a problem with Adobe Reader.  If it is running, please exit and try again (107472867:3). If I try to click the PDF link again, it may succedd or it may fail. Any suggestions about how to fix this annoying issue. I never had this problem with Vista or Windows 7 before!

    Hi,
    Please try the below mentioned steps and let me know if that helps
    Open Adobe reader
    Click Edit>Preferences
    Click "General" under categories
    Uncheck " Enable Protected mode at Startup"
    Click Ok and close Reader
    Try opening the link again

    You do not have a problem with the iPhoto application - you have a problem with the iPhoto library

  • Creating Links with PDF documents

    I am creating PDF documents based on SAP Scripts.  I want to hyperlink within these PDF documents but I don't know the command.  Help!
    I can use html tags to bold and other fuctions, but <a href..> anchor tags do not work within the PDF.  Any information would be appreciated.

    Hi Allen,
    I spent a bit of time looking at your interesting query, but am afraid I cannot find any solution to it.
    If you want to send the document via email, and therefore need the hyperlink, your best bet might be to send it as an HTML document. I don't know if you can achieve the transformation to an HTML document using traditional SAPScript though, but it is possible with Smartforms.

  • Broken link with libraries

    no response?
    was my previous posting too obscure?
    I'll try again. both my itunes library and my iphoto library are still intact except that the 'link' connecting them to their software is broken (please excuse the layman speak).
    itunes library is on my external hard drive whilst i reimported iphoto to the imac attempting to fix this problem following the instructions in 'help' has no effect i have redirected the folder location in the itunes preferences but still no library, restarting iphoto does not give me any option to click on finding the library.
    i am running itunes 6 and iphoto 2 and if you look at my computer specs I'm not able to (and its not worth) installing ilife

    Hi, jabecca. This is an iPhoto forum, and there's little point in mentioning iTunes in it — there are other Discussions forums for that, and you would do better to post your iTunes problem in one of those forums.
    As for iPhoto: now that you're running iPhoto 2, what happens if you hold down the Option key (= the Alt key on some keyboards) while opening iPhoto from the Dock? Are you invited to either create a new library or find an old one? If so, choose "Find Library" and navigate to the library folder you want iPhoto to use. It shouldn't make any difference whether that folder is located on your internal or your external hard drive: iPhoto should continue to use it each time you open iPhoto, until you select another library folder in the same manner.

  • Broken links with new EXT HDD

    My Aperture library sits on a networked EXT HDD called Pictures HD. I decided the drive was getting a little old so swapped it for a new one. I've copied the entire contents over to the new drive, given it exactly the same name (Pictures HD) but when I open Aperture, all my referenced files are showing up as disconnected. I can't see why this should be as the new drive is basically a clone of the old one.
    Any ideas what I need to be doing differently?

    If you have already, outside of Aperture, copied all of your referenced files to the new HD (and kept your Library on your system HD), don't use "Relocate Masters". That would have been a better way to populate your new HD -- but that is already done. Use "Locate Referenced Files". This command allows you to tell Aperture to, in fact, locate the Masters of the images in the Library. If you copied without alteration the folder structure of the referenced files, you will be able to simply tell Aperture where one of the Masters is on your new HD, and Aperture will find all the others.
    Alternatively, you could wipe the new drive clean with a fresh format, then use the "Relocate Masters" command with both the old and the new HDs mounted.
    In general, it is recommended that other than back-up you do all file management from within Aperture. Both "Relocate Masters" and "Locate Referenced Files" work well.

  • Creating a link with the Link Tool

    I used the Link Tool to create a Link in my pdf file.  The link is set to open a website file.  I created 2, one with just a little text and the other was a picture that was 200 X 300 px.  When I follow the links, each is opening a full web page.  I expected that with the Text link because I put the text on an html page but the picture I sized to the 200X300 but that opened a full web page also.  When setting up the link to the Web File I did not see an additional settings as far as how to open the web page such as _parent or _child etc.  I believe it is normally the Target.
    Does anyone know how I would either do this with the link tool or know of a better way to do it overall?
    Thanks
    Bob

    Hi,
    You may be confusing HTML markup for links with PDF links.
    In PDF, HTML markup is not applicable.
    So "target_xxxx" or any other HTML 'stuff' cannot be used.
    For the graphic file (JPG, PNG, whatever), make a web page file that is configured to display the graphic file in a manner you desire.
    The web link you set in the PDF, with Acrobat, will result in this web page file opening.
    This is the file that will control how the graphic is rendered.
    If needed, a resource for HTML "how to" is W3 Schools.
    Be well...
