Brother Label Maker

First off if I am posting this in the wrong area, I apologize, and if so please point me in the right direction. I have had my iMac for about a year and like it more and more. However, my wife has recently started her own business and is in need of a label maker. She bought the P-touch QL-500 (try to contain your amazement). It says it has the ability to run on an Apple but we have had nothing but problems. We actually can't get it to run right at all. I look at the user guide and the icons and applications they tell me to use are not even options. Anyway, my question is this: is there a program with the Mac that people out there use for making labels? Is there another company that anyone has had luck with? I know label makers aren't the hottest topic in the world but my wife is trying really hard to make her business work and I would like to help her if I could. Thanks!!

I recently upgraded to mountain lion and now cannot connect to my Brother QL-570 Label Maker

I recently upgraded to Mountain Lion and now cannot print out on my Brother QL-570 printer. I get as far as typing in the label name and then the labeller or computer disconnect. I have tried downloading drivers from Brother but they can't do that as only Apple can do that but there is nothing in Apple to do that. I also reloaded the program off the set up disc. . Any ideas?

yeah-find out where you're downloading stuff to, and stick with it. I'm using FireFox and tell it to save the driver and stuff on the desktop, and when I quit FireFox, there it is on the desktop. you'll also need your admin password. It should show up as a .dmg file, then double-click on it to open it. You should see "Brother.pkg" . start up brother.pkg (double click??) and folow the instructions that ought to appear to install the printer driver. If the .dmg file doesn't mount, use Disk Utility** to mount it and get it working. Then you should see the package. and then you can install it.
** you may have to click on the .dmg file and choose "Get Info" then Open with, then choose disk utility, and then open with then change all. then close it. Hopefully that ought to work. If you cannot remember your admin password, I can't help you right now. Looks like you'd need it, to let Brother install that printer driver.

You'll have to search online yourself and see their specifications if it meets your requirements.
There are CD label makers, Avery label makers, standalone machines that spit out a label at a time etc., etc. check for Mac compatability also.
A lot of database software also can make labels on a printer using the Avery numbers (or close to it) and similar sized labels, sold in office type stores aka "compatible with Avery 2060" for instance.
A free piece of database software that works on Windows, OS X and Linux is the free LibreOffice suite.
However you have to turn Gatekeep to "Anywhere" first to install it, link here.

No not in iDVD.
BUT - DO NEVER PUT ANY STICKY LABLES ON ANY CD OR especially ! DVDs as they goes out of stability and result is
• DVD doesn't Plauy
• DVD-Player might propably get HARMED - as a bad loaded centrifuge - it breaks.
I do use - printable DVDs and an Epson Printer and this came with CD/DVD print program.

My Brother label printer no longer works

After my last update to Maverick my label printer stopped working - it kept shutting down. I tried to uninstall/reinstall and now I get this message when I try to open the installation program "You can’t open the application “P-touch Editor5.0 Installer” because PowerPC applications are no longer supported."

If you cannot update your printer driver to Mavericks:
Revert your Mac back to the System it was using prior to the Mavericks upgrade (presumably Snow Leopard).
Then partition your hard drive or add an external hard drive and install Mavericks there!
DO NOT install Mavericks over Snow Leopard, as it will destroy the Snow Leopard environment.
Use "dual-booting" (System Preferences:Startup Disk) to boot into either Snow Leopard or Mavericks as needed. Print in Snow Leopard.

Does iTunes have CD label maker options?

i have burned a mixed playlist to a CD and want to auto fill the songs and artists from this playlist onto a CD label which sticks to the CD displaying the info on this new CD.

iTunes will only print CD inserts, you'll need a dedicated label program if you want the round labels as well.

HTML 5 Contact Form "Placeholder" instead of label makes form validation not work

Hi,
I am trying to implement a HTML 5 contact form which uses a "placeholder" within the field instead of a label. But now the form validation does not work.
The site is at http://www.partnerrealestate.ch/avenuedefrance23/index.html and it is not using any workflows from BC as the person receiving it is an external person and the process does not require a workflow.
Would appreciate any input into this.

There is no label on input fields. The form does not work because you have edited the names. BC needs the ID and names to be as it is issue when you create the form so it knows what to use for the validation and what information to pass into the database.
So where you have edited these, you need to restore those.
You have some invalid html on some input's as well one has input="" inside of it when rendered so that is not right.
It is not to do with placeholder use. So fix up your HTML errors, correct the name and ID changes and it will work fine.

How can I create & print a whole sheet of the same label?

For example, a full page of return address labels, or "Thank You" on every label? Someone posted a similar question in '07 but there was no solution posted at that time. Does anyone know how to do this in Mail and Address? or even in Pages? Thanks.

Thank you for your input. I am trying to stay attentive to the things that Mac can do to better, or more so, than the PC. It hard to stay focused on that when the basics (things that I do regularly) seem to be just not even offered...like today, I wanted to get a "receipt" with an email I sent out from Mail and Address Book. However, as you probably know, it isn't a supported function. Again I noticed in the discussions that many folks are disappointed and questioning why something that has been around for so long in other mail software is not a part of Mac's. As far as using Word, I see your point, but I did pay for iWorks because the Apple Store guy told me I can do all the same things and even more than Word. I would have just paid for Word had I known, but now I'm not paying for both. I found avery.com and will use their free online label maker for now till I figure out another way to do it without having to incur another fee. So far, iWorks and Mail and Address not been impressive to me. Hopefully I will keep uncovering aspects of them that make them shine and impress me, and make life easier when on the computer. Thanks. Label Printing issues on Crystal Reports Server

I built a label that prints off beautifully on my local machine with Crystal XI installed. However, when I post the label to the reports server, and a user tries to print it off, it prints off two blank labels behind each good label. I have racked my brain on this for days. The printer settings are identical to my local machine. Any idea what might be causing this?

Symptom
A label report was viewed over the web using the Web Component Server, and printed on a label maker printer DYMO 330. The labels were being resized to 8 1/2 x 11 instead of printing the size of the label. Even after selecting the correct size, the labels print one per page, followed by 3 blank labels.
When printing was done through a distributed report or the report designer, the labels printed to the correct size and only printed one label with no blank labels.
What is causing the label report to print incorrectly when printed from the web viewer?
Resolution
Steps to Resolve
1. Open the report in the Crystal Reports 8 designer on the web server.
2. Click on 'File' then click 'Printer Setup'. If a printer is already selected then set it to 'No Printer', click 'OK', then save the report.
3. Click on 'File' then click 'Printer Setup' again. Select the default printer and clear the 'Default Properties' checkbox.
4. Click 'OK' and save the report.
5. Click on Start > Settings > Control Panel > Services and double click 'Seagate Page Server' service. Set this service to run under an 'Administrator' account.
6. Stop and restart the service, and close down all browsers.
The label reports now will print successfully over the web.
Background
Incorrect printing from a web viewer can have several causes, including:
· The report is designed with a designated printer, but the encapsulated page format (EPF) files are being created in 'No Printer' mode.
· The server does not have access to the printer.
· A valid printer is not saved with the report on the server.
· The printer driver is not installed on the server.

Crystal Reports - Page Break/Create Address Labels

Problem description:
I am creating a letter writer function for a Windows application. The how-to documentation I have is not providing the necessary step(s) for showing one record per page. From what I have gathered there is a page break function, however, I have not been able to implement it. I have set up a Crystal report in a .Net 2008 (Visual Basic) application with a Section 5 (Page Footer) and need to break and start a new page at this point. One page per letter (record) for multiple letter distributions.
I also need specific instructions on how to create an address label maker for this application. So far I was able to include a Crystal Reports form set up specifically for address labels but not to make it work.
Since the application will be distributed this is not a machine specific issue.

Using Crystal Reports 2008 SP3 with the Brother 9500PC, 9700PC, and P9800PC

We have using Crystal Reports with the Brother Label printers for years until we were forced to use Crystal 2008. The label printers have worked in the past and we usually create a label template in the printer driver and this configuration is stored in the Crystal Report. These label printers can use several different size cartridges. When creating a report using the Editor, the report displays and prints correctly using the template embedded into the report. This is using the updated SP3.3 service pack. The problem is in the Run Time application that is embedded in another application to run the reports. When printing a label from the application, the report previews just fine with the correct size and format. However, when you try to print the label, the run time driver ignores the template embedded in the report and instead uses the default settings for the printer driver. So, if I have a 1 inch cartridge in the printer, and the default settings for the printer is a 1 1/2 inch cartridge, then the report will try to print assuming there is a 1 1/2 inch cartridge which will cause the application to fail. This is a problem with Crystal 2008 (12) and we would like to find a solution to this. Thanks, Doug

You can setup custom label sizes in Crystal. In the folder where you installed Crystal Reports is a text file called Labels_en.txt. This contains the label definition Crystal uses. You can add a new label in here.
Now when you open Crystal and create a new report by selecting the Mailing Label Repotr Wizard, you will see your new label when you get to that step.
When save a report, the report will do two things. If you have set the report to a specific printer, Crystal saves the printer and paper settings inside the RPT. When the print engine runs the report, if it can't find the printer saved in the report it will default to the default printer.
What I believe is happening is the application is loading the report and because it can't find the label printer it was designed with it's going to the default printer. So you do have to set the PrintReportOptions in your application to redirect the report to the correct printer, driver and papersize.
This has pretty much been the way since version 4 that I can remember. The positive side is you don't have to set all the parameters yourself. You can get the PrintReportOptions from the report when you open it. Then you just need to pass the printer name, driver and port. The rest of the options (papersize) will already be populated from the Get.

I thought this subject was easy with LV2009, somehow I cannot find the property for the "tab page label font size", yes, i also looked with the "pages" ref array from the tab ref, also no luck. Could someone point me to the right place? I would really appreciate your help. Thanks.

The each tab is a page Class Generic>Page.

Paste a label on a Disk?

I know that this will make most of you laugh, but can I paste a label of write with ink on the face of a disk without damaging it or making it unusable?

I would NOT use any kind of adhesive label, whether it was part of a labeling kit or not. Many slot loading CD/DVDs have a narrow insertion slot, and I have seen these labels make the DVD stick in the player.
I've been using a Lacie drive that laser etches an image on the front of the DVD. It takes a special DVD/CD designed for use and takes quite a while to finish (about 20 minutes), but it looks cool and my clients like it. I will also use one of the Epson printers that does full color directly on the disk (again, special disks required). For everyday stuff where appearance doesn't matter, I use plain disks and a marker designed for CD/DVDs.

Hi, I need to design some cd labels. Just real basic, homemade cd's to be printed on an inkjet. Have any of you used appleworks for this?
Neato has a mac version of their software that looks good.

I always use AppleWorks for designing CD/DVD labels. I scan either the template or a sheet of the labels that comes with whatever labels I'm using as a PICT (best for AppleWorks) & insert the PICT into an AppleWorks draw document. I print a copy on plain paper to make sure I've got the margins right & then save this as a template. I've tried downloading templates but it was more hassle than scanning my own.

How do I set up my Brother laser printer to work wirelessly?

My printer works okay with the USB connection but I am sure it can be set up wirelessly and I am not sure how to do it. I added the printer with the ISP address the computer gave me (I am seeing a slightly different number when I check the LinkSys manual) If I click on this printer nothing happens but the printer works fine with the hard connection. I know I am doing something wrong but not sure just what. This should be simple but I have spent hours trying to work it out - unsuccessfully!

The wireless address may have to be similar to that you'd assign the
printer if it were supported by Ethernet, since it would be networked.
The USB is different, and in theory, Ethernet should be faster & in
some cases, perhaps better shared between users on a network.
I'm not sure how to use a printer wirelessly unless a wireless print
server were used, or if you happened to have a supported printer
and were setting up a wireless printing from an AirPort Base Station.
{The newer printers are supposed to eliminate the need for this ^.}
Usually, the instructions and software disc accompanying Brother
printers, makes using their stuff easier than, say some HP stuff.
If the product says it will work wirelessly out of the box, with OS X
it probably will. Which product do you have, and when was it made?
There may be newer drivers for it at the manufacturer's web site, if old.
With a brand model of printer, some information may be available online
and even a google-type search could show you other ideas about this.
