Brother MFC 9465 cdn network printer prints service information

Hey,
The new printer at office is the aforementioned Brother MFC 9465 cdn. I installed the drivers for it, it got recognized by cups, but when I try to print any document it prints some service information like
"HTTP VERSION X, blah blah
binary_p1"
In stead of my actual document.
Any ideas?

Can you ping the printer IP?

  • Brother MFC 7440N - cannot see printer on network after software update!

Hi I have done a software update to OSX 10.8.3 on my macbook pro. But now I can't see my Brother MFC 7440N printer on the network. I have been on the Brother website and have downloaded all of the software / drivers for MAC, but there doesn't seem to be one for OSX 10.8.4. Can anyone suggest what I should do next.
By the way, I have already tried to reset the printers etc, but that didn't work as the printer cannot be found on the network.

From the printer (check your manual)
In case you can't find the manual here is the relevant section.
You're not going to change it so stop at section 4 (IP Address) don't proceed to 5 (Change)

  • Brother MFC-240C won;t print

    Hi All
Have recently rebuilt Mac Mini (10.4.11) and trying to add a new printer Brother NFC-240. Recognises the printer (can see cartridge levels etc) but when I print anything it simply disappears. If I look into the completed jobs tab they do show as jobs in there. Printer itself is working as a copier etc.
If anyone has any ideas where to go form here, would much appreciate! Have deleted printer anumber of itmes, and used both Brother driver and native mac driver to no avail.
    Thanks

Hi petesing, and a warm welcome to the forums!
If you haven't done this yet, try this & let us know...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions. Reboot when done and try setting up the printer again.

  • Cannot print to networked Brother MFC "network busy"

This (most recently) happened on my iMac after upgrading to Snow Leopard, fixed with help from Brother tech support. Now having the same issue on my iBook after the upgrade...
the MFC-440CN is wired to the dsl router/switch/access point, as is the iMac, the iBook connects to the network over the wi-fi. It seems like every time there is a software update I have to jump through hoops to make it work with tech support, but I'm never quite sure what the solution actually was... I can ping the static IP of the printer, I delete it, re-add it, and try to print... everything looks good then I get an error "Network host '192.168.254.44' is busy; will retry in 30 seconds" It never completes.
When I try to add the printer now, it does not appear under the "default" tab on the "add printer" screen (it seems to me that it used to), so I've been adding it under the IP tab/protocol IPP.. when I start to type the IP of the printer, it completes the address for me and pulls up ""Brother MFC-440CN CUPS" for "print using" but it still doesn't work.
I'm getting really sick of these printer issues, if I wanted to constantly be F'ing with these kinds of issues I would have stuck with my Windows machines. This issue seems to reappear periodically... at least four times since I bought these Macs in July; can someone please give me a clue as to what keeps happening here? Thanks!!!

If I understand correctly, Bonjour is a protocol that does auto device discovery on the network and that wasn't working, but IS now. When I go to the printer set-up screen under "default" the printer is automatically recognized on the network, I don't have to know the address... just click and DONE. That's the way it worked at first, then something got broken... that is how it's supposed to work right!?
Yep, that is correct. Bonjour uses multicasting to advertise itself on the local network, much like AppleTalk. When a user selects to add a printer, if that printer supports Bonjour, then the printer will be seen in the Default browser view and when selected, the printing system does a small amount of interrogation to look for a locally installed driver. If found, the Print Using menu will automatically add the correct 'print driver' and the user then simply needs to click Add to complete the installation.
So, as to why this was not working on wireless but on wired, and whether the firmware update helped to resolve this is uncertain, but given that you are now connected and printed you would have to assume that something was probably amiss with the machine and the update helped. With your role you would know that some things can't be explained with hardware/software and thank goodness they just work...

  • HT3669 So my Brother MFC-3360C was able to scan right into my Dell laptop and now that i have upgraded my macbook pro to Lion it will only print and fax.  that stinks. now i have to get a new printer as i never fax anymore but scan to be able to email the

It looks like the Brother MFC-3360 can only print/fax with a MacBook Pro which stinks that it cannot scan ( a function on the MFC that worked on my Dell laptop).  Do i need to get another MFC that works with apple?! who faxes anymore? i need to scan and email the documents, not print and fax.  this is a very unpleasant surprise.

Brother have released compatible Lion drivers and utilities for your MFC-3360.
They are here, download and install them,

  • LaserJet 2550n network printer on XP host PC, can't install Windows 7 client laptop

Have Color LaserJet 2550n network printer connected to XP host PC. I can't install  Windows 7 client laptop for printer. The wireless network is fine, I can access documents back and forth, merely the printer doesn't work and there's no way to download 64bit drivers for this printer from HP.

    Resolved, not solved.
I talked to HP product support. The Officejet Pro 8500 A910 will not install on Windows XP (at least the Home Edition) when networked through a router. It will install through USB. I uninstalled the program and reinstalled it with only USB connected to clean out all the network printer/scanner information. Product support claimed it would install through an ether net cable connected between the printer and computer but this does little good if you need internet access.

  • How do I scan with a Brother MFC-6890CDW

    Hi there,
how do I control the scanning capabilities of a brother MFC-6890CDW multi-function printer? Is there an application to send a command from my laptop to initiate a scan?
    Cheers,
    Noah

If it's like all the other Brother MFDs I've used, there should be at least three basic methods:
1 there should be a TWAIN extension which ships with the system as part of the standard software install. That extension should allow Photoshop, Graphic Converter, Acrobat, ReadIRIS, and other apps which use standard scanner extensions to scan.
2 Apple's Image Capture, which ships with the OS, should recognise the MFD.
3 There should be a 'Scan' button and a 'Scanner' button in System Preferences/Print & Fax and in the printer applet which spawns from Print & Fax and whenever you print something with that MFD. Click on either button and you can scan.

try disabling email scanning for incoming mail.
One of the last things that occurs is the mail server and Thunderbird sign off on "where we are up to" and Thunderbird stores this state information in the popstate.dat file in your profile (there is one in each POP mail account folder). If the anti virus, or you for that matter, end the conversation a few seconds early that hand off does not occur and the popstate is not stored.

  • Can't print to Networked Brother MFC-7420 Printer after installing 10.6

A few days ago my dad decided to finally take the plunge and let me upgrade his operating system from 10.5 to Snow Leopard 10.6.6 on his Imac.
Ever since then I have been unable to print to his Brother MFC-7420 printer.
The printer is connected to his Imac via USB and I connect to his printer through our Linksys Router on my laptop MacBook Pro. The downside about this setup is that his computer has to be physically on for me to be able to see and/or print to the printer.
When he was running 10.5 I was able to print to his printer with no problems but now that he is running 10.6 I can "see" the printer but when I sent a print job to it the Print Queue for the Brother on my screen says "Connecting to Printer" and never gets any further.
Printer Sharing is turned on as usual allowing "Everyone" on the network to print. I've tried removing and reinstalling the driver on my computer to no avail, I haven't tried doing the same to his computer.
A side note to make though, when my dad is running 10.5 on his machine and I try to add the Printer via my Print&Fax the system will automatically set the "Print Using" to the correct Brother MFC-7420 Cups" driver. However, if he is running 10.6 my system just comes up with the "Generic PostScript Printer".
Is there something I should do on his end or my end so that "my" computer can print again to his printer?
Any suggestions are appreciated, if any of you need more info feel free to post and I'll try to help. Thanks!

A couple of suggestions for you.
Ensure you have installed the MFC-7420 OS X 10.6 CUPS driver on both Mac's.
Open Print & Fax and select the Default view and select the shared printer. When your Print Using menu selects Generic Postscript, change this menu to 'Select printer software' and then search for the 7420 driver. According to Brother support the driver name will be listed as "MFC-7420 + CUPS".

  • When I try to install my Brother MFC-8810DW printer through a wireless network I get error:-30886

When I try to install my Brother MFC-8810DW printer through a wireless network I get error:-30886.  The computer recognizes the printer, and asks me to identify the software, but I get the same error message repeatedly.

That file might have moved to a different location on the server. I think you'll need to check with RefWorks support or your local IT department on why the install page links do not work.

  • I have a brother MFC-J835DW printer and my ipad can not find it to print?  They are both connected to the same wirelss network via a Linksys router.  Any ideas?

I have a Brother MFC-J835DW wireless printer (which is on the list of supported printers for Airprint), and have both the IPad 2 and the printer connected to the same wireless network.  When I try to select the printer to print fromt he iPad, it cannot find the printer.  Any ideas?

The first thing to do is to make sure that your printer has the latest firmware. You can download the firmware updater from Brother:

  • Printer - brother mfc-465cn

    Hi,
I'm trying to enable a connection between my archlinux os and a printer (brother mfc465cn) via network.
First of all I tried to ping the printer at its own IP address and I correctly receive an answer.
    1) I installed the cups service and started it.
    2) I followed the instructions at https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Brother_MFC-440CN replacing the 440cn driver with 465cn driver.
    3) I set up the printer in the cups administration page.
Now the problem is that even if I have the correct PPD, I'm not able to print anything.
    I Tried several solutions:
    1) I used the the printer discovered by "cups administration page"
----Discovered Network Printers:     Brother MFC-465CN (Brother MFC-465CN)----
And I obtain the connection "lpd://printer-name/BINARY_P1"
    2) I used directly the URI lpd://printer-ip-address
    3) I used the URI socket://printer-ip-address
Unfortunately, none of them is working.
    Do you have any suggestions?

Can you ping the printer IP?

  • Aiport won't print to Brother MFC 8500

I have an iMac with OX 10.2 ethernet connected to an airport extreme base station. The iMac is also connected to a Brother MFC 8500 printer. My Macbook can share our satellite internet connection with the iMac. The iMac has an ethernet connection to the Airport.
But when I connect the MFC 8500 to the Airport, via a parallel to USB cable--- with the USB plugged into the Airport, I can't get the Brother MFC 8500 to print wirelessly from my Macbook. I thought the USB to the MFC 8500 would send the signals I need to print over the Airport wireless network but i'm wrong it seems.
Is my printer just not compatible with Airport or is there something else I need to do? I'm going nuts.

Assuming that the iMac is near the printer, give this option a try. connect the printer to the iMac (have approriate software installed on imac). open up the sharing preferences in the system preferences. Turn on printer sharing for the imac. once it starts up, switch over to the macbook and print something. under the printer menu there should be a tab called shared printers and you will find your printer in there.
(make sure the imac is still connected to the airport base otherwise you obviously have no connection to the base to receive a connection with the macbook).
    Hope that helps

  • Firefox will not open in Vista SP2 after installing software for a Brother MFC printer.

I have 7 computer network. All the machines are running Vista SP2. I recently purchased a Brother MFC 9325cw, and installed the printer/scanner drivers as well as a program called scansoft paperport on each of the machines individually.
I left out the some of the bulkier aspects of the driver package, namely the brother control center because it seems to eat up a lot ram at start up.
Since I have installed the printer driver on my computers, several of them will not open firefox.
I have tried re-installing firefox on one machine so far to no avail.
Next I will try to re-install the brother software. Has anyone else encountered this problem before?

It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full, unrestricted, access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • Error message when printing from XP PC to Brother MFC-7420 over Express?

My G4 worked without a Hitch but I cannot seem to get my XP PC to print over my Airport Express network on a Brother MFC-7420 laser multi-funcion printer.
Has anyone been able to do this successfully?

I realize that - but this printer was designed to be used on a network, so you should use it that way. If you do that, I suspect you won't have any problems getting this printer to work from a PC using the setup software provided by Brother. You would also be able to make use of all its functions - rather than being limited to using it as a printer (no scanning ability) when connected via USB to the Base Station.
