Browser/Cookie - Internet Explorer - Portal 6

Hi there,
We are currently facing a problem with users not logging off, but closing their browser on Internet Explorer.
We have logged this issue with SAP, but according to them,
the users must 'logoff' and not close their browser(x).
Problem:
The user logs onto Portal with their userid/password and
has another window opened eg. www.news24.com.
The user then closes their browser(x) on IE, but still
has the other session opened. (www.news24.com)
Later the user tries to logon to Portal, but is not prompted with their userid/password, and is taken directly into Portals.
This is a problem, we want the users to always be prompted with their userid/password.
I am sure there must be a solution on EP6 sp2, running on Internet Explorer 6.
All help will be rewarded. Our auditors are using pressure on us.
NB. This works perfect if the user "LOGOFF" their Portals.
Kind regards,
Morgan Moodley

Hi,
You have to use the javascript and onUnload methods to detect that user is closing the portal window without loggin g out. In the onUnload event handler, delete all the SAP cookies issued when the user logs into portal.
Hope this help.

  • Creating a Windows 7 OS desktop short cut for gmail with Firefox as browser, not internet explorer

I have an HP laptop that originally had Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit OS. I recently upgraded to Windows 7 64-bit OS. I want to generate a desktop shortcut for gmail that uses Firefox as the browser not internet explorer (8). If I use IE 8 as the brower and enter in gmail.com, gmail opens. I can right click on that page and create a gmail desktop short cut with IE 8 as the browser. If I try the same steps using Firefox as the opened browser, I can't create a desktop short cut by right clicking...it is not an option. I can't make Firefox my default browser for everything as my work programs/shortcuts require IE. Again, how do I create a direct gmail desktop shortcut that uses Firefox as the browser, not IE 8, when IE 8 has to be the default browser?

You could create a shortcut to open Firefox with a specific site using a command line argument.
You can copy the shortcut that you use to open Firefox, then right-click on it and choose '''Properties'''. On the shortcut tab, you will see the target, it will look something like this:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe"
You can add gmail.com to this shortcut so it looks like this:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" gmail.com

What is the best security/protection program (McAfee/Symantec/Norton/other) for my Dell PC which has Windows XP. I prefer Mozilla Firefox as my browser, but also use Internet Explorer. I just want to know if Mozilla Firefox has identified an ideal product to detect and destroy spam, worms, add-ons -- eliminate security threats of all kinds... AND is tolerated by BOTH Mozilla Firefox AND Internet Explorer.

  • I use firefox as my web browser not internet explorer and for some reason itunes says i am not connected to the internet when i am connected.

i use firefox as my internet browser. when i go to itunes to download music it says i am not connected to the internet when actualy i am. what am i doing wrong?

Firefox is a web browser not a homepage.
It sounds like you you have the old www.google.com/firefox/ start page that used to be the default homepage in Firefox before Firefox 4.0 sometime. It is not being maintained by Google anymore so either ignore the message or while in Firefox go to Tools->Options->General->Homepage section and change your homepage.

  • When using Mozilla I cannot reply to or sened new emails using Hotmail, but when browsing using Internet Explorer I can, so what is going on?

This problem only started occuring a few days ago. I have no more details to supply at the moment.

Just to follow up on my findings. My last issue regarding the digital certificate was not at the time of initial download into Firefox, but my application required that I backup the certificate into a folder which can then be accessed to sign a submission generated by a third-party Client software.
After finally steering away from the digital signing route by opting for a non digital filing of my project, I later revisited the Firefox certificates list only to find that the 'Backup' button still didn't work or respond in any way whatsoever; however since I only had a single certificate on my list... I threw my hand up in the air and tried the 'Backup All' button... guess what - that worked!! My browser then navigated to a file browser which allowed me to save the certificate to a folder of my choice. Of course this was after the fact as my deadline had already passed and and I had the Administrator who initially granted my secure ID revoke it once I was blocked from downloading it by Firefox.
Just an update/FYI for y'all... But I'm not sure if this type of anomoly is due to a glitch on my computer or a glitch on the browser - but it certainly did catch me off-guard during a deadline.

  • When I use Firefox to access Facebook the font is tiny and only takes up half the screen. Everyother website is normal and This doesnt happen using any other browser, ie: Internet Explorer. How do I change the size to be regular?

Happens only on facebook. How do I adjust the font and image size to normal like every other web page?

The page may have been zoomed out, with Facebook on display try resetting page zoom by using the keyboard shortcut Control+0 (zero)

  • Trying to reinstall Firefox as browser; originally internet explorer

Apparently a prroblem of compatibility. Lightning strike forced purchase of new Dell Inspiron. Had IE for many years but when I followed the popup to go to IE7.0 the results were so bad I let my grandson put me into Mozilla Firefox. Now the "improvements" forced on my have just about ruined me ability to read my mail! Tech from Bell South coudn't even take control of my computer because of incompatibility. Can't I simply wipe out everything and start over?

  • Clicking on a link does not open firefox and take me to the page when firefox is my default browser but does when Internet Explorer is my default browser, what is wrong?

All of a sudden (I think after the last firefox update) links in other web pages won't open firefox to access the page when firefox is my default browser but works when I change my default browser to Internet Explorer and I can't figure out why. Help!!!

This problem just arose for me today. Very frustrating. Tried all of the suggestions here without success. Then a very simple solution came to me:
UNINSTALL CHROME. I haven't used Chrome for a long while anyway since it seems to have chronic problems of one sort or another. Firefox does 95% of what I need, and Internet Explorer can handle the other 5%.
After uninstalling Chrome I clicked a mailto link. It asked me what program to use and did not list Firefox as an option for some reason. In the Tools menu, I chose "Options" and went to the "Applications" tab. Searched for "mailto". There was a single entry - when Chrome was installed it gave me no options to switch. After uninstalling Chrome I was able to change that. It still did not list Firefox, but it did list "Gmail". Selecting that causes my Gmail to open in Firefox.
I have no idea whether Google or Microsoft is responsible for this, but I'm inclined to give the hairy eyeball to Google for this one. It's the sort of stunt they'd pull on Microsoft, then pretend it was just a mistake. Just one guy's opinion, of course.

  • Website requires minimum browser: Internet Explorer 6.0

I am trying to work in an image based website.  The message I recieve when I try to get into the site:  This image flow resource requires one of the following miminum browser versions:  Internet explorer 6.0.  The browser you are currently using is Apple-Mac Safari Version 5.0.  Any suggestions?

Can you tell us what the website address is?
    There are two possibilities.
First, the site is doing simple browser sniffing because their layout only looks good in IE - in which case you might be able to trick the server into thinking you have a different browser (Safari - Preferences - Advanced - Show Develop Menu, then close preferences window and use the Develop menu - User Agent - Internet Explorer 7).
Or second, the site uses Windows-based ActiveX to integrate site code with Windows - in that case, there's nothing you can do to get it working on a Mac (other than install Windows through a virtualization system such as Parallels Desktop, VMWare Fusion, or Boot Camp).
Even Microsoft is ashamed of IE6, and wants everyone to upgrade it to a newer version. Websites coded solely for Internet Explorer - and IE6 at that - are a thankfully dying breed.

  • Internet Explorer - Memory Usage

    Hi,
I have developed a VC model and deployed it in the portal. When i execute the model in internet explorer 7 or 6, the memory usage keeps building up and does not drop even after getting all the data. I have got couple of popup iviews in the model which when executed increases the memory usage further more and eventually internet explorer stops responding.
Currently the only way to clear the memory is to close the Internet explorer window. Is there any other way to flush out the memory after the data has been retrieved from the back-end.
    Regards,
    Ravi.

    Hi Ravi,
I googled in and found few links which can be helpful to you.
http://cybernetnews.com/browser-comparison-internet-explorer-firefox-chrome-safari-opera/ - which is all abut the memory tests which were conducted for various browsers including ie regarding the usage of memory.
    http://www.bigresource.com/PHP-Flush-clearing-buffer-3rXPLSop.html
http://www.wimpyplayer.com/docs/howto/clear_cache.html - which tells about the way to flush out the browser memory for better usage.

  • Flex and Internet Explorer issues...

Anyone seen this error and have any ideas how to resolve it?
We only get the error when we browse via Internet Explorer and
never when we visit via FireFox.....
    NetConnnection.Call.Failed
    description = HTTP: Status 200
    details = "
    http://idp06medn.d-p.com/flex2gateway/"
    level = error
    Channel.Connect.Failed

I suspect what is happening is that IE is returning what it is
in the local cache. I've ran into this problem a while
back - worked great everywhere but IE - same sort of
    refresh approach as yours.
What I did was to append a parameter onto the HTTP
request that contains a random number. The host
    ignores this parameter of course.
Every request now looks different and it will defeat
IE's lack of respect for the no-cache policy.

  • How to restore Adobe Flash Player for 32 bit Internet Explorer of Windows 8.1 64 bit?

Default Windows 8.1 64 bit install runs Internet Explorer 11 32 bit and all it's features, but slight disturbance for install of integrated applications runs user in such a trouble of loopback which he or she cannot escape, because problem application doesn't
runs for Windows or for it's programs, won't show it's Windows existence but wouldn't allow install of it's new software, I could only install complete new program for Windows program to run desired object.
I am using Rocket browser for Internet Explorer 11 32 bit because of problem of Adobe Flash Player uninstall or install.
But how many applications do I have to search, trial and if at all successful install for use because of problems of such applications of Windows?

As we have reviewed in other threads on the same topic. Internet Explorer for Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 make use of separate management and content processes which on the desktop in a 64 bit environment are 64 bit and 32 bit respectively.
This is explained here on the IEInternals blog.
In most scenarios, the multiple processes are entirely transparent to the browsing experience. 32 bit addons continue to load and interact as expected with the content processes in which they are run and web scripts which detect browser architecture continue
to function, detecting a 32 bit browser.
In the Modern UI experience, the scenario is even more transparent as support for addons such as Flash and JavaScript are integrated into the 64 bit processes and updated through standard Windows Updates.

Answer for problem simply Got it !
Internet Explorer 11 needs websites 'Trusted', add all pages in need of running addons, and rest Windows operating system handles.
Now I am listening to songs on Windows Media Player (T3 skin) from a website which earlier messaged Adobe Flash Player not installed refusing playing songs, but now running programs without installing Adobe Flash Player.

  • Dropping support for Internet Explorer 8,  and  Firefox 20.x or below

Starting April 30th, we will discontinue support for all Internet Explorer 8 versions and all Firefox 20 versions and below. In order to continue using Business Catalyst Admin user interface without problems, you and your clients need to upgrade to a more recent browser:
    Download Internet Explorer
    Download Safari
    Download Chrome
    Download Firefox

    Thanks for your reply Shay.
We plan to officially support IE8 with the next patch release to JDeveloper 11g - currently planned for later this year. That matches what I wrote in my initial post in this forum thread about IE8 support.
We usually only certify browsers after they officially go production. That does not really answer my question (q1) in this forum thread.
It is more like, how can I assess that Oracle will support any successor(s) of IE8 or successor(s) of any currently supported browsers for ADF 11g applications in the future? How long will Oracle support "commonly used browsers" for an ADF 11g application I build today, so how long will I be able to use that application?
How do I answer such questions for ADF 11g applications that should be deployed on the internet (where, as some extranet environments, you typically have not that much (or no) control over which browsers your users use ... although some would like to argue with that, see forum thread "ADF Faces RC browser support and browser market share")?
(By the way, do you have any feedback for the forum thread "ADF 10g support for Internet Explorer 8"?)
    regards
    Jan
