Browsing the database, detecting bindings

Am I correct in my understanding that there is no way to detect the binding that should be used to deserialize the entry?
I would like to write a generic database browser but it doesn't seem possible. I suppose I could support only databases that catalog their bindings in a standard way but that seems rather limiting.
A major hurdle for some people feeling comfortable with berkeleydb is the ability to browse the data. I would like to write a developer tool to help in this regard. Maybe one already exists but I did not find any. Your input would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
Am I correct in my understanding that there is no way
to detect the binding that should be used to
deserialize the entry?Correct. In Berkeley DB in general, the bindings and other metadata are not stored in a database, they are typically represented only in code or in an application-specific form. For many users, the ability to completely control their own schema is considered a strength, but for other users having a built-in schema is desirable.
I would like to write a generic database browser but
it doesn't seem possible. I suppose I could support
only databases that catalog their bindings in a
standard way but that seems rather limiting.Yes, a generic browser that would work with any BDB database would have to either 1) only display raw data bytes, which is not much better than DbDump, or 2) require some sort of standard schema information, as you say. One of the problems in implementing (2), is that you must decide what type of schema you wish to support -- objects and classes in a Java sense, flat records with simple fields, arbitrary XML-based structure, etc. I don't think any one type of schema will work for all BDB users.
A major hurdle for some people feeling comfortable
with berkeleydb is the ability to browse the data. I
would like to write a developer tool to help in this
regard. Maybe one already exists but I did not find
any. Your input would be greatly appreciated.I claim that most users who would like a built-in browser would also like a built-in schema facility, which is exactly what we provide in the Direct Persistence Layer (persist package). The DPL was built with the idea of adding a browser in mind, but we haven't done it. If you want to implement a browser, I encourage you to implement a DPL-based browser. The DPL exposes all metadata and a browser could be built using the RawStore class.
What form of UI for a browser is most desirable to you?:
- browser-based, via a servlet perhaps
- IDE-based, as an Eclipse, NetBeans, or JBuilder plugin perhaps
- standalone Swing app
Are you interested in browsing the data, the metadata, or both?

  • URGENT: Show the Database Schema in a JSP

    Hi,
    I want to make a JSP to show the Database Schema.
    I'm using JDev 10.1.2 + ADF/Struts + Oracle Database.
    I need show the tablenames in this page.
    How to do this ?

    more details;
    1. I developed a web-application, and now, I want to include a new module:
    - Import and Export database objects.
    2. I have a Stored Procedure that receives two parameters:
    - The table name and the operation(import or export).
    This Stored Procedure import/export the table to/from a DBF file.
    Well, I found two solutions and two problems:
    ---- Solution 01 ------
    -> To make one Store Procedure to get the table object names and show this result in a JSP.
    ---- The Problem ----
    I do not know how to "to pass/to transfer" the connection object from the Application Module to a JDBC connection object or from an Application Module execute a Stored Procedure.
    ---- Solution 02 -----
    -> From the ADF objects, browsing the database objects(schema) to a JSP.
    ---- The Problem ----
    I do not know how to do this. I do not know which objects to use.
    Please, give-me an idea, how to do this, and in the your opinion which is the best solution.
    thanks for any reply, for any help.

  • Where is the Server Behaviors, Bindings, Databases in dream weaver cc

    Hi can anyone tell me how to get the Server Behaviors, Bindings, Databases in dream weaver cc
    thanks

    Free is outdated.  You assume all risk for it not working on upgraded servers.  Download the .ZXP Extension and install with Extension Manager CC

    Good luck!

  • Loading an Image from the database and display it on browser

    I do not know if this is even possible.
    At the moment, to load an image inside an Html page you need to use the <img src=""> tag. and in the src you put the path of the image. Now I would like to save an image inside the database.
    An option to still display the image on the browser would be that my service object, would load the object from the database (saved as blob) then save it somewhere on the Server, and the still use the <img> tag to load the image from that location.
    However I was wondering wheather there is another way to do it without saving this image on the server. that is loading the bytes from the database (or a location on the server) and provided these bytes to the jsp page to display the image.
    Is this possible? or?
    regards,
    sim085

    hmm ... ok .. that sounds good .. but that means that
    a servlet must exsist at all time to display the
    required image.Servlets are usually instantiated by the servlet container upon an incoming request.

    Try to create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
    See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":

    There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
    If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

  • After REFRESH the cached object is not consistent with the database table

    After REFRESH, the cached object is not consistent with the database table. Why?
    I created a JDBC connection with the Oracle database (HR schema) using JDeveloper(10.1.3) and then I created an offline database (HR schema)
    in JDeveloper from the existing database tables (HR schema). Then I made some updates to the JOBS database table using SQL*Plus.
    Then I returned to the JDeveloper tool and refreshed the HR connection. But I found no any changes made to the offline database table JOBS in
    JDeveloper.
    How to make the JDeveloper's offline tables to be synchronized with the underling database tables?

    qkc,
    Once you create an offline table, it's just a copy of a table definition as of the point in time you brought it in from the database. Refreshing the connection, as you describe it, just refreshes the database browser, and not any offline objects. If you want to syncrhnonize the offline table, right-click the offline table and choose "Generate or Reconcile Objects" to reconcile the object to the database. I just tried this in 10.1.3.3 (not the latest 10.1.3, I know), and it works properly.

  • How to use your Treo 750 to browse the internet on your mac

    Hi There,
    I am by no means an expert on this, but this is what has worked for me. I'm on Vodafone in New Zealand but I think this setup (or very similar) should work with Cingular in the states or other Windows Mobile v5 devices.
    1. Install The Windows Mobile Modem Scripts Onto Your Mac
    Download the Generic Windows Mobile Modem Scripts (3 of them) from: http://www.taniwha.org.uk/
    The scripts are under "Windows Smartphones & BlackBerrys" called "Scripts for Windows Mobile phones" (half way down the page)
    Once downloaded, put the scripts into >Library >Modem Scripts
    2. Start Bluetooth on the Treo
    Go >Start Menu >Settings >Connections (from the bottom) >Bluetooth
    Tick "Turn on Bluetooth"
    Tick "Make this device discoverable to other devices"
    Click OK
    3. Pair The Treo with your Mac (done on the Mac)
    If the Bluetooth menu is not already on your mac (near the date and time, top right) go to >System Preferences >Bluetooth
    Under the "settings" tab tick "Show Bluetooth status in the menu bar" and the menu will appear
    Once the menu is there, choose "Set up Bluetooth Device..."
    Click "Continue" and on the next screen choose "Mobile Phone". Click "Continue"
    Make sure the screen on the Treo is on (I've found the mac has trouble discovering the device otherwise)
    Choose your phone and click "Continue"
    Click continue and enter the pass code on the Treo and click "Next"
    Once pared, on the phone click "Finish"
    On the mac, make sure "Access the Internet with your phone's data connection" is ticked and click "Continue"
    Enter your Vodafone (or Cingular) account username and password (see notes below)
    Under phone number enter: *99# (this invokes GPRS or the 3G data connection)
    Choose "Windows Mobile GSM 460k" from the "Modem Script" pop up menu
    Click "Continue"
    Click "Quit"
    Select the new phone from the Bluetooth Devices list and press the "Edit Serial Ports" button from the left
    Click the plus sign under the main window
    Name it "Treo750" (or Cingular or Vodafone or whatever you want)
    Choose "Modem" from the "Port type" pop up menu
    Tick "Require pairing for security" and "Show in Network Preferences"
    Click "Apply"
    4. Configure The Bluetooth Port
    Go >System Preferences >Network
    Choose "Network"
    A "New Port Detected" window should pop up, click "OK" (if it doesn't and you have a new "Bluetooth" port, don't worry)
    Select the "Bluetooth" port from the list and click "Configure"
    Under the PPP tab, click the "PPP Options" button from the bottom
    Untick "Send PPP echo packets" and "Use TCP header compression" under "Advanced Options"
    Click "OK"
    Click the "Apply Now" button from the bottom right
    Close System Preferences
    5. Connecting to browse the internet from the mac
    Go >Applications >Internet Connect
    Click "Bluetooth" from the top
    Tick "Show modem status in menu bar"
    Quit internet connect
    Make sure the Treo is on and bluetooth is on (and your data connection is on, see notes below)
    Go up to the internet connect menu (the little phone icon) and select "Connect"
    Notes
    For the carrier account name and password, I just used the same account info that was on my phone under >Start >Settings >Connections >Connections Icon >Manage existing connections >Edit "VFNZ Internet" (or your carrier name) >Next Screen >Next Screen >Next Screen. On this third screen, I found my account details.
    If for you there is nothing, then more than likely your carrier doesn't require a name and password - so on your Mac, leave these fields blank and just enter *99# for the phone number. Although, I think you may have to use something (for Mac & Windows Mobile compatibility) so just try entering username: guest and password: guest. There is much more info regarding this in the readme file that comes with the Windows Mobile modem scripts. Or contact your carrier for your specific details (probably the best thing to do!).
    I have found the connection to be a little bit unreliable when the Treo's screen goes to sleep - so I tend to hit a button on the treo every 30 seconds to keep it on - But Vodafone here in NZ has flashed the ROM to make it HSDPA compatible so others may not have this problem.
    I had trouble the first time I tried to connect through internet connect. But after I connected through >System Preferences >Network >Bluetooth >Connect button next to the configure button at the bottom, it worked every time from the Internet Connect menu.
    Also, you may want to check your email or browse a page on the Treo first, just before connecting from your mac to make sure the data connection is on - I haven't worked this out fully but I'm not sure the Mac can open the data connection itself. Again, this may be a region/carrier specific issue.
    Cheers
    Ben
    Macbook, Treo 750v (Vodafone)

    I've also found The Missing Sync to work much better than Pocket Mac for syncing the Treo to the Mac.

    And i would like to know how to set up the environment variable for Oracle_HOME and ORACLE_SID.
    Please kindly assist me on this.

    Looking at the error message "The Network Adapter could not establish the connection" , It appears hostname and port may be incorrect. Review the targets.xml under E:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1\SAP_solman_SDB\emd and
    emoms.properties under E:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1\SAP_solman_SDB\config folder to make sure host ( sap_solman) and port (1527) are correct.
    As far as setting the environment variables goes, you can go to control panel -> system -> advanced -> environment variables and set the ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_SID

  • Save report as pdf in the database

    Hi all,
    is it possible to save the generated pdf from reports10g in the database?
    Regards

    Here is what I was looking for:
    re:How to get cookie information or http headers values inside Oracle reports
    pr_example in the above forum was written under 8i. In 9i, they added the timeout which is set to a default of 60 seconds. Look at the UTL_HTTP package spec on more information on setting this timeout.
    Plus, printing the BLOB is easier too. You can just use wpg_docload.download_file instead of using the while loop.
    Anyway, that example shows you how to call a report from a stored procedure, store it in a blob, and even it print it back to the browser.

  • Can multiple threads write to the database?

    I am a little confused from the statement in the documentation: "Berkeley DB Data Store does not support locking, and hence does not guarantee correct behavior if more than one thread of control is updating the database at a time."
    1. Can multiple threads write to the "Simple Data Store"?
    2. Considering the sample code below which writes to the DB using 5 threads - is there a possibility of data loss?
    3. If the code will cause data loss, will adding DB_INIT_LOCK and/or DB_INIT_TXN in DBENV->open make any difference?
    #include "stdafx.h"
    #include <stdio.h>
    #include <windows.h>
    #include <db.h>
    static DB *db = NULL;
    static DB_ENV *dbEnv = NULL;
    DWORD WINAPI th_write(LPVOID lpParam)
    DBT key, data;
    char key_buff[32], data_buff[32];
    DWORD i;
    printf("thread(%s) - start\n", lpParam);
    for (i = 0; i < 200; ++i)
    memset(&key, 0, sizeof(key));
    memset(&data, 0, sizeof(data));
    sprintf(key_buff, "K:%s", lpParam);
    sprintf(data_buff, "D:%s:%8d", lpParam, i);
    key.data = key_buff;
    key.size = strlen(key_buff);
    data.data = data_buff;
    data.size = strlen(data_buff);
    db->put(db, NULL, &key, &data, 0);
    Sleep(5);
    printf("thread(%s) - End\n", lpParam);
    return 0;
    int main()
    db_env_create(&dbEnv, 0);
    dbEnv->open(dbEnv, NULL, DB_CREATE | DB_INIT_MPOOL | DB_THREAD, 0);
    db_create(&db, dbEnv, 0);
    db->open(db, NULL, "test.db", NULL, DB_BTREE, DB_CREATE, 0);
    CreateThread(NULL, 0, th_write, "A", 0, 0);
    CreateThread(NULL, 0, th_write, "B", 0, 0);
    CreateThread(NULL, 0, th_write, "B", 0, 0);
    CreateThread(NULL, 0, th_write, "C", 0, 0);
    th_write("C");
    Sleep(2000);
    }

    Here some clarification about BDB Lock and Multi threads behavior
    Question 1. Can multiple threads write to the "Simple Data Store"?
    Answer 1.
    Please Refer to http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17076_02/html/programmer_reference/intro_products.html
    A Data Store (DS) set up
    (so not using an environment or using one, but without any of the DB_INIT_LOCK, DB_INIT_TXN, DB_INIT_LOG environment regions related flags specified
    each corresponding to the appropriate subsystem, locking, transaction, logging)
    will not guard against data corruption due to accessing the same database page and overwriting the same records, corrupting the internal structure of the database etc.
    (note that in the case of the Btree, Hash and Recno access methods we lock at the database page level, only for the Queue access method we lock at record level)
    So,
    if You want to have multiple threads in the application writing concurrently or in parallel to the same database You need to use locking (and properly handle any potential deadlocks),
    otherwise You risk corrupting the data itself or the database (its internal structure).
    Of course , If You serialize at the application level the access to the database, so that no more one threads writes to the database at a time, there will be no need for locking.
    But obviously this is likely not the behavior You want.
    Hence, You need to use either a CDS (Concurrent Data Store) or TDS (Transactional Data Store) set up.

    Berkeley DB Data Store
    The Berkeley DB Data Store product is an embeddable, high-performance data store. This product supports multiple concurrent threads of control, including multiple processes and multiple threads of control within a process. However, Berkeley DB Data Store does not support locking, and hence does not guarantee correct behavior if more than one thread of control is updating the database at a time. The Berkeley DB Data Store is intended for use in read-only applications or applications which can guarantee no more than one thread of control updates the database at a time.
    Berkeley DB Concurrent Data Store
    The Berkeley DB Concurrent Data Store product adds multiple-reader, single writer capabilities to the Berkeley DB Data Store product. This product provides built-in concurrency and locking feature. Berkeley DB Concurrent Data Store is intended for applications that need support for concurrent updates to a database that is largely used for reading.
    Berkeley DB Transactional Data Store
    The Berkeley DB Transactional Data Store product adds support for transactions and database recovery. Berkeley DB Transactional Data Store is intended for applications that require industrial-strength database services, including excellent performance under high-concurrency workloads of read and write operations, the ability to commit or roll back multiple changes to the database at a single instant, and the guarantee that in the event of a catastrophic system or hardware failure, all committed database changes are preserved.
    So, clearly DS is not a solution for this case, where multiple threads need to write simultaneously to the database.
    CDS (Concurrent Data Store) provides locking features, but only for multiple-reader/single-writer scenarios. You use CDS when you specify the DB_INIT_CDB flag when opening the BDB environment: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17076_02/html/api_reference/C/envopen.html#envopen_DB_INIT_CDB
    TDS (Transactional Data Store) provides locking features, adds complete ACID support for transactions and offers recoverability guarantees. You use TDS when you specify the DB_INIT_TXN and DB_INIT_LOG flags when opening the environment. To have locking support, you would need to also specify the DB_INIT_LOCK flag.
    Now, since the requirement is to have multiple writers (multi-threaded writes to the database),
    then TDS would be the way to go (CDS is useful only in single-writer scenarios, when there are no needs for recoverability).
    To Summarize
    The best way to have an understanding of what set up is needed, it is to answer the following questions:
    - What is the data access scenario? Is it multiple writer threads? Will the writers access the database simultaneously?
    - Are recoverability/data durability, atomicity of operations and data isolation important for the application? http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17076_02/html/programmer_reference/transapp_why.html
    If the answers are yes, then TDS should be used, and the environment should be opened like this:
    dbEnv->open(dbEnv, ENV_HOME, DB_CREATE | DB_INIT_MPOOL | DB_INIT_LOCK | DB_INIT_TXN | DB_INIT_LOG | DB_RECOVER | DB_THREAD, 0);
    (where ENV_HOME is the filesystem directory where the BDB environment will be created)
    Question 2. Considering the sample code below which writes to the DB using 5 threads - is there a possibility of data loss?
    Answer 2.
    Definitely yes, You can see data loss and/or data corruption.
    You can check the behavior of your testcase in the following way
    1. Run your testcase
    2.After the program exits
    run db_verify to verify the database (db_verify -o test.db).
    You will likely see db_verify complaining, unless the thread scheduler on Windows weirdly starts each thread one after the other,
    IOW no two or ore threads write to the database at the same time -- kind of serializing the writes
    Question 3. If the code will cause data loss, will adding DB_INIT_LOCK and/or DB_INIT_TXN in DBENV->open make any difference?
    Answer 3.
    In Your case the TDS should be used, and the environment should be opened like this:
    dbEnv->open(dbEnv, ENV_HOME, DB_CREATE | DB_INIT_MPOOL | DB_INIT_LOCK | DB_INIT_TXN | DB_INIT_LOG | DB_RECOVER | DB_THREAD, 0);
    (where ENV_HOME is the filesystem directory where the BDB environment will be created)
    doing this You have proper deadlock handling in place and proper transaction usage
    so
    You are protected against potential data corruption/data loss.

    Multi-threaded and Multi-process Applications
    DB is designed to support multi-threaded and multi-process applications, but their usage
    means you must pay careful attention to issues of concurrency. Transactions help your
    application's concurrency by providing various levels of isolation for your threads of control. In
    addition, DB provides mechanisms that allow you to detect and respond to deadlocks.
    Isolation means that database modifications made by one transaction will not normally be
    seen by readers from another transaction until the first commits its changes. Different threads
    use different transaction handles, so this mechanism is normally used to provide isolation
    between database operations performed by different threads.
    Note that DB supports different isolation levels. For example, you can configure your
    application to see uncommitted reads, which means that one transaction can see data that
    has been modified but not yet committed by another transaction. Doing this might mean
    your transaction reads data "dirtied" by another transaction, but which subsequently might
    change before that other transaction commits its changes. On the other hand, lowering your
    isolation requirements means that your application can experience improved throughput due
    to reduced lock contention.
    For more information on concurrency, on managing isolation levels, and on deadlock
    detection, see Concurrency (page 32).

  • To create a sort of "browse the pages" in a page with DWCS6: how?

    Hello all again,
    as usual i'm here with something that for me seems impossible and maybe it's super easy... i checked online but i couldn't find any answer. I start with a description of what i want to accomplish:
    - i have 1 database (mySQL) with a table called "Books", inside i have these fields: Title (VARCHAR 60), Author (VARCHAR 20), StoryText (LONGTEXT)
    - i have 1 page for me, where i insert with a form a book when i want to update the DB
    - i have 2 PHP pages, one that has links where the user chooses, for example, the name of a book and the other that gets that name from the URL and show the content (x chapters of the story, tale or whatever)
    - i'm the user and i click on the link "The Little Prince", the page loads and shows me the title, the author, the text of x chapters (let's say 4 chapters)
    - that text has to be "divided" in more than one page because it's too long for a single page, so i want to see something like:
    Example when you enter the page:
    The Little Prince
    Once upon a time......
    Page 1 | >> | Last page
    and example when you reach page 9:
    The Little Prince
    The little prince....
    First page | << | Page 9 | >> | Last page
    All of this has to be in a single page though, no links to somewhere else or so. It's not a page itself but it appears in a PHP page like a table, textarea and so on. The closer thing i can think about it's a photogallery, where you press left and right and shows the pics but here, instead of pics, there's text. And if possible, i wouldn't want to create a table in my database everytime i insert a new book. What i'd like it's something that "splits" the text i have in a field called "StoryText" (table "Books") and let the user browse the pages. If i have, for example, a book 1000 lines long, i want to make a page every 50 lines so i get 20 pages. Those 20 pages need to get a sort of recordset navigation bar but... not about a recordset, only about a text in that page.
    Resuming, what i need is:
    - a way to split long text in x pages (like the example, 1 page every 50 lines of text)
    - add a navigation bar or some sort of control to browse those pages
    Is it possible something like that? Thanks.

    The example below shows you how to split the article into pages using [PAGEBREAK] inserted into the database but it only gives you the option of NEXT | PREVIOUS
    Split article into multiple pages
    I'm positive you can do exactly what you require - it's a matter of finding and piecing the code together. Entering [PAGEBREAK] into the database isn't very practical either. I'd be looking for an example that extracted a certain number of words.

    Please help me....................

    Hi..
    This ORA-600 refers to a mismatch has been detected between Redo records and rollback (Undo) records.Is better to lock a call with oracle support.Secondly, apply latest patch on the DB.
    I had expereiced the same error, but my DB was in open mode, so i created a new undo tablespace and changed the undo_tablespace parameter and it worked.
