BTinternet Mail account

So basically, I'm trying to sort out a co-worker's E-mail account.
With it being a btinternet mail account I've tried the myriad of different approaches i've found and none seem to work. Mainly I've been sticking with the 'use the yahoo mail' idea to set it up, however when I try to do this (using 3G not wifi - another common so-called fix) ad i've put in the information in (Name, Email, Password,Description) it tells me Verification Required and to Log into the Yahoo! Account at www.yahoo.com/uk. Then i can press next and it move on without verifying but every 30 seconds it'll wipe the password i have saved and ask me to put it in again, which will then ask me to Verify it again.
Trying through the Other setup as opposed to yahoo, when I'm on the Verifying stage I'm told that the UN or PW for 'mail.btinternet.com' is incorrect, I've got the correct password and e-mail address so where this is coming from I don't know.
All other problems i've found were relating to actually sending e-mails, not the process of setting up the account, which is where i'm having the problem.
Any help would be appreciated.

  • How to set up two POP e-mail accounts using the same POP and SMTP servers

I have an e-mail address based on a domain I purchased which is based on my company name. Now retired, I have purchased a new domain with a simpler, personalised name. My original e-mail account uses the incoming (POP3) and outgoing (SMTP) mail servers operated by my ISP; mail.btinternet.com.
I have set up a new account on my PC in Microsoft Outlook, and have successfully sent and received emails using the new e-mail address taken from my new domain name.
I have now tried to mirror this on my iPhone, but every time I enter all the relevant data for the new e-mail address, user name, password, mail servers etc., and then press 'save', I get a pop-up which says: "xxxx" is Already Added  This POP account has already been added to your iPhone. ("xxxx" is the name given to my original e-mail account).  Nowhere have I input "xxxx" in the course of setting up the new account.
I need both accounts operational during an extended switch-over period as I alert everyone to the e-mail change over. Can anyone suggest a solution to this problem?

What targeting the Mail.app preference file, do the following:
Quit the Mail.app first and using the Finder, go to Home > Library > Mail. Copy the Mail folder and place the copy on the Desktop for backup purposes.
Using the Finder, go to Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.mail.plist. Move the com.apple.mail.plist file to the Desktop.
Note: Moving the com.apple.mail.plist file out of the Preferences folder will require re-entering all email account information when re-launching Mail.
The only exception to this is if you have a .Mac account which will be recreated automatically and/or if you created an email account as part of the computer setup assistant when first turning on the computer when new.
Launch Mail and decline any prompt to import mailboxes. After re-entering all email account information, the Mail.app should rediscover the existing account named folders and mailbox files at Home > Library > Mail.
After confirming all mailboxes were successfully rediscovered, you can delete the copy of the Mail folder and old com.apple.mail.plist file from the Desktop.
Test if this resolves the problem.

  • I have two google mail accounts, one is work, one is home. I prefer to keep things separate. On my iPad, formerly had no problem checking each account. Now when I log into either account, my poor iPad acts like its spinning its head.

I have two google email accounts - one is personal, the other professional. I like them being separate. Until a few days ago, my ipad could pull up either account I needed at the time. Now, though, when I try to pull up either account after signing in, the line above the blue line (sorry I'm new to this and don't know the terms) switches rapidly between the two account names and nothing appears below where the mail should be. What do I do? Thanks

    Update to above question:
    Hello All,
To anyone with the same problem described above, on THEIR iPad (if it is running iOS 7.0.2):
Go to Settings; Mail, Contacts, Calendars; DELETE your *******@btinternet.com e-mail account, that you originally set up either using 'Other', or the 'BT' option which I am sure was in the list previous to the iOS 7 update.
Then ADD a NEW account choosing YAHOO from the list of options. DO NOT USE 'OTHER'.
Enter the correct details just as you (almost certainly) had already done in your previous attempts using 'other'.
When you see the 'verifying......' and 'the blue ticks' you should be able to exit settings and open your mail app and then receive all your 'old' e-mails again, AND be able to SEND as well.
All my 'old' e-mails, were NOT found in the 'old e-mail' folder though. THEY are still in my inbox.
So this fix worked for me.
After I deleted my account from 'OTHER' and put it in Yahoo, I like other people also ended up with more folders.
I hope this works for you on YOUR Apple devices.

  • BT are shutting my e-mail account-Need help!!!

Just found out that my email account will close on 16th sept unless I pay for it as my broadband is with another provider(free as hubby works for other provider). I have had this account for at least 5 years, back in the day it was talk21.
I do have a g-mail account which i've never used its just linked to my mobile, my questions are, Is there an easy way to move every thing I have stored in my mail account over to G-mail (lots as you can imagine over five years) and do I have to notify everyone of my e-mail change where I have used it as a login or can I still use it as a login. Its going to take me till the 16th to sort this out I think

It's a disgraceful failure of any customer service by BT.  Had my Btinternet email account since they launched backin ... was it 1997?  Everything digital in my life is spidered into the account now.  Its been used as my registration point for virtually everything for the past fifteen years.  And now getting less than 30 days notice to try and find every single product and website I have registered with and then change all my details?!?!?  Hell, I'd need about a year to do so; and then I would still probably have missed some!  By their actions, they potentially cutting me off from products that I have purchased & tied to this email address.
Add to that the fact that their email that comes into your inbox sources from some dodgy 'analytics planning' website, as all the links route through there... I had serious doubts as to its legitimacy and forwarded it to their abuse contact & opened a case regarding it.  Highly unprofessional of them - especially when you consider that we are repeatedly advised by BT to never click on links unless we are sure of their validity.  And should never, ever, enter our account details on any other site other than theirs.
Shoddy BT, very very shoddy.  I would expect a higher standard of business from such a company.  And would definitely expect a proper notification click through to come up regarding this service change when I log into email.  I would say a good proportion of their users will deregard the email as a phishing attempt.  **bleep** cowboy operation.

  • Requested to verify default e-mail account

I use Thunderbird to manage my e-mail accounts (1 x hotmail; 3 x btinternet). Ever since I set up a BT sub-account I have been unable to write and send e-mails from my default BT account. As of yesterday I am now unable to to write and send e-mails from one of the sub-accounts as well.
I have frequently tried to remedy the situation but received this message:
An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded:  From address not verified - see http://www.btyahoo.com/verify.  Please verify that your email address is correct in your Mail preferences and try again.
The help pages regarding verifying an account merely sent me around in circles and succeeded only in enraging me.
Check [email protected] to verify that you own this address. If you don't see a confirmation email, try resending it from here.
So I click on the link and it takes me to my mail account: that's all!
In the hope that the fault lay in my choice of Classic BT Yahoo mail I updated this morning to the 'new' version and my latest attempt to follow the instructions on the http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/38595/c/346/session/L2F2LzEvdGltZS8xMzY3MzE3MzY2L3NpZ... page yielded only this:
Sorry, the email address given matches your default email address. Please try with some other address.
I've now spent four and a half of the last fourteen hours trying to resolve this problem. I am aware that I am perfectly capable of making really stupid mistakes but I do feel that the help pages do not address this particular problem.
I'd be very grateful (and so would my family!) if someone could solve it for me.
    Many thanks.

    Hi. Welcome to the forums.
The reason for the issue is almost certainly to do with the Thunderbird settings. In essence, each account in TB needs to have its own smtp outgoing server item setup. The item in the account settings (Outgoing Server (SMTP)) will point at an smtp setting, it is this that needs to be unique for each BTinternet account - otherwise using one in use by another account will result in this verification email request.
You can use the existing one for one of the accounts, as long as the email address in the settings is the same as the one you are sending "from".
If you need any extra info with regard adding new smtp server details, or altering the existing one - just pop back.

  • Help, email down! - "Your Yahoo! Mail account has ...

    Hi all
For some reason I can no longer use BT Yahoo email servers or services. I hope someone can help.
I have been a BT Infinity customer for about 6 months without issue. Tonight my email stopped working. The only change I made today is opting back in to BT FON WiFi Community using the portal on the Home Hub. This could be a red herring but no other account, router or service changes have been made.
    1. If Outlook attempts to connect I get a username or password error. Emails stick in the Outbox.
    2. If I send from another account to my btinternet address I get an NDR from a bt.mail.ird.yahoo.com mail server:
Sorry your message to <me>@btinternet.com cannot be delivered. This account has been disabled or discontinued [#102].
Despite the send/receive errors in Outlook (see #1), the email is still received.
    3. I can log in to BT Yahoo member page, but if I click on Email:
Your Yahoo! Mail Account is no longer active.
Unfortunately, we cannot reactivate your account because:
Your Yahoo! Mail account has been disabled. Please contact user support.
Any help greatly appreciated. I don't use my btinternet.com address to receive email (I use a catch-all address with a registered domain name to forward to gmail). However I need to use their SMTP servers to send email, which at the moment I'm unable to do.
    Regards, Dave

    Problem is now resolved.
I called BT yesterday on 0800 111 4567 and raised a support ticket. They confirmed the problem wasn't at my end so they raised a (free) support ticket. They said my email account looked ok from their end too, so they'd escalated it to the Yahoo server team. This morning all worked fine again when outbound SMTP email was triggered at 6am.
I don't know what the problem or resolution was but I'm glad to be back up and running. Full credit to BT. I was given a maximum response time of 48 hours from this morning (when Yahoo would pick up the call). I was therefore looking at 3 days of potential downtime. After a bit of a grumble from my end, the duty manager agreed to prioritise the call which he appears to have done successfully.
Thanks to anyone who's read this far! Regards, Dave

  • BTinternet mail failing on newly restored ipad2

I restored my father's iPad2 last night via iTunes on my PC (he's in hospital and after many failed attempts at entering correct password, he disabled said iPad).
I have deleted the old mail account on the iPad and added it again with correct passwords but still can not send mail.  It is receiving mail but not sending.  I am getting message saying "the SMTP server mail.btinternet.com is not responding.  Check your network connection and that you entered the correct information in the outgoing mail server field".
There is nothing wrong with the connection and the information in outgoing mail server field is correct.
I believe there is an issue with BTinternet mail but can anyone throw some light on this?  I promised father i'd get his iPad back to him so he can use it while in hospital long term.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Mail Account on IPAD Air

I have a brand new Ipad Air which I am setting up for my mother. When setting the mail account and server it keeps coming up with username and password not recognised which it is not. It is a yahoo mail address via BTInternet. Is this something to do with it? It is very frustraiting as all the details are correct.

Since Mail is a dedicated client app (in comparison to a regular webmail session, which runs as a standard web transaction on port 80 [HTTP] or 443 [HTTPS]), it will try to contact Yahoo's servers directly thru secured ports. And those may have been blocked by your ISP.
More info: I don't do Yahoo, but do have both corporate MS Exchange and Google Mail accounts which work just fine on the iPad. Exchange uses incoming IMAP port 993 and outgoing SMTP port 587, both to outlook.office365.com. Gmail uses incoming IMAP port 993 to imap.googlemail.com but outgoing SMTP port 465 to smtp.googlemail.com. If any of these ports were blocked by my various ISPs, the mail wouldn't flow (and iOS wouldn't be able to complete the account setup).
Maybe someone can pipe in which ports and hosts are used for Yahoo Mail?

  • P btinternet mail on ipad2

how do i set up btinternet mail on my ipad2?

Works ok on mine. When I set it up I chose the 'Yahoo' option from Add Account, and on the next screen put my fullname, my full email address, password, and a description. Do you have the account set up on your computer e.g. on Outlook on a PC or Mail on a Mac ? If so then you should be able to sync its settings to the iPad via iTunes - select the iPad on the left-hand side of your computer's iTunes, and on the Info tab on the right there should be the option to sync account info.

  • I have a new Palm Pre Plus - can I have more than one Google G-Mail Account on the phone?

I have a general G-Mail account and it has started getting too busy with advertisements etc.  I'm thinking about changing to a different e-mail address but don't know what yet.
I have an old Palm Centro I used to Synch with my laptop.  Now I need to do this with G-Mail.  So I created a unique g-mail account that would only contain my calendar and contact information - i called it "palm.last name" - made sense to me.
When I try to add it to my Palm Pre Plus I am unable to sign in.  I'm wondering if you are limited to the number of Gmail e-mail accounts you can have on the phone.  If i can only have 1 then I don't want my e-mail to be "palm.last name" and give that out to people - that would not make sense to them.
I already have a Yahoo Account and I'm thinking about another Yahoo Account to keep some e-mails and instant messages separate from my personal Yahoo.  If I cannot add more than 1 account, this is going to be a problem.
Thank you for any assistance you can provide.

Hi, and welcome to the Palm Support Community.
You should be able to add your second Gmail account without any problem...I have two Gmail accounts on my Pre and have no difficulties.
When you say you are unable to "sign in", I assume you mean you are unable to sync the email and calendar on your new account?  Double-checking your user name and password are the only things that come to mind.
