Budget spreadsheet in Numbers, adding budget category

I'm trying to create a budget spreadsheet in Numbers (working in iCloud) and can't seem to add a Category. Am I stuck with the pre-set categories they offer or can I add new ones?

select the cells you want to format using the accounting style, then open the cell formatter:
Select the data format as "Currency", then choose the "Accounting Style"

The first should give you what you are loking for, the second maybe more complete.

  • Budget Spreadsheet, need help...

Using the default budget spreadsheet, in the Monthly Expenses box where you plug in costs, is there anyway to set a percent and if you're overspending to make the text a bold red text?
I have it setup with a few categories, and I want my checks to be a certain percentage (let's say I make 1600 a month, going to Army as an E-3), but have how much I want to invest (25% shelter, 15% food, 15% transportation, 5% clothing, 10% personal life, 10% social life, 5% home life, 15% investments and savings).
I just want to plug in the cost, and see if I'm going over my budget at a glance... any quick way of doing so?

    Hoodsey,
You could get Numbers to display over-costs in red (but not bold) but it would require you to manually calculate the "amount over point" for each category, enter that number in the conditional format definition for each category, and then go through the process again each time you got a pay increase or changed your percent.
I would suggest modifying the Monthly expense table to include two new columns. The first (could be hidden) would list your desired percent for each category and the second would display a symbol when the cost exceeded the percent you assigned. The second column formula is:
    =IF(Costs Shelter>Pct Shelter0.01Monthly Net Income :: Amount $Available Cash,"W","")
If your cost for the category is <= the percent assigned the cell is blank, If not, a symbol (W in the example) appears. By marking the column for print bold, and setting the cells to be conditional, you will have the red-bold feature you wanted.
This is not exactly what you wanted, but it's a reasonable work-around.

  • How do you change categories in both transactions and budget report in the personal budget template in Numbers?

How do you change categories in both transactions and budget report in the personal budget template in Numbers?
I am working on both an iPad mini and a MacBook Air.
Whenever I change the category name in the budget report, it does not actually show up in the transactions tab when I am using the Personal Budget Template.
I have already tried copying and pasting a category in the budget report to add another row but it still does not show up in the transactions tab.

  • How to open Excel spreadsheet in Numbers.

    Hey Kids:
I have trouble opening imported Excel spreadsheets in Numbers on my iMac.  I have Mountain Lion 10.8.2.  Previously I tried a demo of Office Mac that has expired.  When I try to open an Excel spreadsheet I get a message to buy Office Mac.  I've tried to put the demo application in the trash but I still can't open the Excel spreaddsheet and get a message that Excel is in the trash and can't open the spreadsheet.
    HELP!

In addition to what Niel said...
In the Finder, click on an Excel file (.xls) to select it, press command-I to Get Info.
In the Info window, expand the Open with...section.
Click the pop-up menu bar in that section and choose Numbers '09.
Click the Change All button below the menu.
Repeat with a current version (.xlsx) file.
    Regards,
    Barry
PS: Unless you have something vital that you're storing in the Trash, you might also want to Empty the Trash to get rid of the Excel trial that's expired.

  • Creation of Budget using Last Years Actual budget

    Hi,
    1) Is it possible to create new budgets using copy function to copy last years' actual budget to create a new budget.
    2) Also copy budget from one fund center/commitment item to another fund center/commitment item
If it is not the standard functionality then how this can be done.
    Regards,
    Jyoti

    Hi,
You can copy budget via FMCYLOAD - Generate Budget Data activity. You can define reassignment strategy restricting it to CBV year-end process in FMYC, and thus, making available copying from one budget address to another.

  • I have created a spreadsheet on numbers for ipad with a list of customers as a drop down menu. How can i make their address appear underneath when i select the customer?

I have created a spreadsheet on numbers for ipad with a list of customers as a drop down menu. How can i make their address appear underneath when I select the customer?
    iselect the customer?

    Hi bazza,
We won't be able to put the address from a formula into the same cell that you enter the customer's name. We can put the address in the cell under the customers name.
First let's take James advice and concatenate the address in the address table.
Here is the formula in G2
    =CONCATENATE(B2&"
    ",C2&"
    ",D2&"
    ",E2)
It shows this way because after I clicked on B2 and typed [&"] (no brackets) I typed option-return
This gives you your new line. Then I typed the closing ". I repeated this for the rest of the address.
Next we want to bring this to your order sheet. I prefer using the two formulas OFFSET and MATCH instead of VLOOKUP.
base tells OFFSETwhere to start counting from. Click A1.
row-offset is for the row. we will use MATCH() -1 to give us the row.
What MATCH does is give you the row number where something is found and you can specify an exact match. I usually construct the MATCH formula first and then cut and paste it into OFFSET. MATCH looks like this: MATCH(A2,Table 1::A,0). A2 is what we are looking for, Table 1A::A is where we are looking (the entire column A), and 0 means we want an exact match. Can you see it inside the OFFSET formula? Notice that we had to subtract 1 from its result.
column-offset tells OFFSET which column A=0 so we want 6.
we ignore "rows", "colomns" we don't need them.
If this seems like too much, just break it down into small pieces.

  • One of the spreadsheets in numbers will not open

one of my spreadsheets in numbers will not open, any ideas?

Are you speaking of pages or of tables ?
I guess that you are speaking of tables and that yours is locked.

  • Linking Excel Spreadsheet to Numbers

I know how to place an Excel Spreadsheet into Numbers and subsequently save it as a Numbers file. Once the Numbers file is established is there a way to export data changes made while working in the original Spreadsheet in Excel direct to the Numbers file created without resaving a new file in Numbers ?

    Hi Lawrie,
Numbers has a different philosophy from Excel. I find Numbers has a certain charm with its small, discrete tables on a canvas, instead of sheets that are "oceans" dotted with "islands" of data. Numbers allows data input tables, "engine room" tables where the serious number-crunching happens, and "presentation" tables for results.
Happy Numbers, and thanks for the two gold stars.

    Ian

you can change the page orientation by selecting the menu item "File > Print..." then adjust the orientation in "Page Orientation" section, then click "Done" (or "Print", if you want to print).

  • Appleworks spreadsheet to Numbers problems

I'm trying to convert an Appleworks spreadsheet to Numbers. When Numbers opens it, a couple charts with line graphs do not show all the data. There are 8 series in the original, but in Numbers, only 6 of the series are shown on the charts (line graphs). If I change the chart style to 3D line graph, all 8 series are then visible, but I'd rather have just a 2D graph. Trying to create a new chart from the data table does the same thing. It's the two series of data at the bottom of the table (ie. last two rows) that aren't showing up. What's going on; how do I get all the data to display? Thanks.

    Barry,
Here are screen shots of one of the tables with its chart selected, the chart in 2D and 3D. Sorry it's so hard to read; it's a large table. Thanks.

  • Can I open an excel spreadsheet in NUMBERS complete with formulas?

Can I open an excel spreadsheet in NUMBERS complete with formulas?

Problem solved.  I find that the excel file I was trying to convert was an .xlsx version and when I resaved it as an .xls file, I was then able to open it in NUMBERS complete with formulas.

  • Secure a spreadsheet in numbers iOS

Is there anyway to lock a spreadsheet in numbers on iPad, simple to do in excel but when I transfer it to numbers the pass code requirement is lost?

Hello and thanks, but what I actually wonder is, not how you password protect a file, but how you lock it for input (until you unlock it). I can do that on my MacBook and when I open the file on my iPad it is indeed locked for input: tapping on it provoces an 'Unlock?' bubble tapping which unlocks the the file. But then: how do I relock it after some input into the file? I should have posed my question in a clearer manner, sorry. But thanks anyway!
