Bug - Default Java version
When I'm changing the default java version in the Default Project Properties to 1.5.0_05-b05 and creating a new project; the new project still has java version 1.5.0_05 (Default).
Bug?
/Per-Arne
I have just made the test of setting JDK 1.5.0_04 as the default version of Java and when I created a new project it worked perfectly. The change was made by downloading JDK 5 update 4 from Sun; making it accessible to JDeveloper by defining a new J2SE Definition in JDeveloper (from Default Project Properties) and selecting it as the default version of Java.
Please note that even though 1.5.0_05-b05 was not selected by default, it was selectable for the new project, so it's not a big deal, but I still think that it must be a bug under the hood that should be corrected.
The reason that I tried to change the default Java version was that Sun's version was 1.5.0_05-b05 and JDeveloper's was "only" 1.5.0_05-b03. ;-)

Upgrade default java version in Solaris 8?
I have Solaris 5.8 running on sun blade system. Default Java version is 1.2.2 and user need it to upgraded to latest version of Java so, I installed jre1.6.0 (combination of 32-bit install and 64 bit install). Now I can't point solaris to look at the newly installed java version. I have tried to change the path variable in .cshrc but it is readonly to root and group is deamon. I also tried changing the symbolic link from /usr/java to /usr/jre1.6.0 but it is still looking at default version of java1.2.2.
I need help as I don't know much about Solaris to upgrade this java. Any help or guidance is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
solaris_newbeeAfter installing, you need to update the '/usr/java' sym link to point to your new root installation. For example, I installed jdk1_5_16 at /usr/jdk/jdk1.5.0_16/ and then added this symlink:
ln -s /usr/jdk/jdk1.5.0_16/ /usr/java
You may need to remove the symlink that is already there before it will allow you to successfully create the new one.
There are several other dependent symlinks in /usr/bin that use /usr/java, but you only have to update /usr/java.

Hi all,
We are using IBM AIX 5.2 power series 64-bit servers, y by defaulut java version which is 32-bit version is installed on servers.
And we installed OC4J ( oracle 10g R1) on that servers, and when ever emctl is running javacore files are generation .
Finally we observed and changed the java version to 64 bit, and we restarted the servers. Now alos javacore files are generating excessively and in the newly created javacore files shows old java version only
I changed at env variables levels and when we type java -version it showing new version only
Can any one please suggest how to chage the java version at OC4J level
Now my application is working fine but it is generating java core files excessively
And some times we are getting java.outof memroy exception

Changing the Java version in UNIX
I have a Java version 1.4.2_02 defined in /usr/bin/java.....which is the Java version used by the OS.
I have installed a higher version in /home/self directory..
How can I set this as the default Java version to be used by the system?
Thanks!
AnandSorry abt this...but I am not tht familiar with
setting of env variables and settings in UNIX too..
can u tell me how do I change this variable in
UNIX...the JAVA_HOME and set it as default for the
system.
Thanks!
AnandNot a UNIX person myself, but this is not a Java-related question at all, but rather an Operating Systems one. You might want to put that kind of question to an appropriate forum elsewhere, or ask classmates/coworkers.
However, someone may chime in here. -
How to programatically get a Java version (Not default one) ?
Hi, Java Guru,
Does anyone know how to programatically get a Java verstion through its full path ?
For example, there are 5 JVM installed on a user's machine:
JRE1
JRE2
JRE3
JRE4
JRE5
How do you know the Java version under JRE3 ?
From command line, you can simply type
JRE3/java -version
But how to programtically ? (I thought about running a system call, then check the standout, but feel it is not reliable, is there any other way to do it ?)
Thanks in advance.No. That is not waht I want. Using System.getProperties() only can get the default Java information.
Assume there are many Java version installed on a user's machine and we know all java Path.
JRE1/bin/java
JRE2/bin/java
JRE3/bin/java
JRE4/bin/java
JRE5/bin/java
JREn/bin/java
JREn/bin/java is the latest one installed, that is, default Java.
I want to know the JRE3 version before I use it, then how do I know JRE3 version PROGRAMTICALLY ?
Anyway, thanks for response. -
Help - I cannot set the Default Java for Browsers
Hello:
I'm running Win 7, the Home Premium, 64 bit flavor. I have IE 8 and FF 3.5.8 installed. FF is the default browser. I've installed Java and when I go to the test page: http://www.java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml
I get a message which says: "Something is wrong. Java is not working."
HOWEVER, if I open a command prompt and type java -version, I get this:
C:\Users\dogzilla>java -version
java version "1.6.0_17"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_17-b04)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 14.3-b01, mixed mode)
So I went to the control panel app, the advanced tab, and expanded the node for Default Java for Browsers. I have 2 problems.
1. The checkbox for Microsoft Internet Explorer is greyed out; I cannot change any settings here at all.
2. I checked the checkbox for Mozilla Family. Then, when I click OK, I get an error message which states:
"Unable to change browser settings. Please check that Mozilla or Firefox or Netscape is properly installed on the system and/or that you have sufficient permissions to change system settings."
Since I'm writing this message to the forum using FF, I'm going to guess that I have the browser installed correctly. So that leaves me with a permissions problem -- which I don't doubt. I have no idea where to start looking though. Especially considering I can run the files in the bin directory from a command line without any problems.
Does anyone know how I can solve the two problems I described in this thread? Suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thanks!Thanks for the reply!
I tried running as admin and no luck. Still experiencing the same problems.
I've did some more reading (much more in fact for what this problem should be worth) and other forums mention that on 64 bit Windows systems, both the 32 bit and 64 bit JRE need to be installed.
When I was running Win XP, I could just download the SDK, create an environment variable, and I was good to go. Now, it looks like if I just install the SDK, I need the JRE plugin download for just the browsers -- what a ridiculous waste/duplication!
Thanks again for your help. -
How to Launch an Integration Builder under two different java versions
How to Launch an Integration Builder under two different java versions 1
1. Situation 2
2. How To Do 2
2.1 jre preparation 2
2.2 Put them into the system 2
2.3 Execute a Java Web Start under jre 1.4.x version 3
2.4 Change Java Runtime Versions 3
2.5 Launch an Integration Builder 6
1. Situation
OS: windows 2000 pro English
Java version: jdk 1.5.x was already installed. (Its not permitted to change.)
I dont have any authorization to install any software on the PC.
But I need to use an Integration Builder.
I already knew URLs of an Integration Builder (http://<hostname>:50000/rep/start/repository.jnlp).
2. How To Do
At this moment, an Integration Builder (XI 3.0) can be launch under jre 1.4.x environment (on windows).
2.1 jre preparation
I download j2re-1_4_2_10-windows-i586-p.exe from http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html
I installed it on my home PC and copied all files from C:\Program Files\Java\ j2re1.4.2_10\ into my USB.
2.2 Put them into the system
I pasted j2re1.4.2_10 folder from my USB into the windows 2000 pro system.
Finally, I could list up all of javaws.exe under this system.
c:\j2re1.4.2_10\javaws\javaws.exe
c:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0_05\bin\javaws.exe
c:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0_05\jre\bin\javaws.exe
c:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_05\bin\javaws.exe
2.3 Execute a Java Web Start under jre 1.4.x version
I executed c:\j2re1.4.2_10\javaws\javaws.exe .
2.4 Change Java Runtime Versions
Go to File-> Preferences -> Java
As you can see, it indicates 1.5 version.
Click [FIND] button.
Click [NEXT] button.
Click the j2re1.4.2_10 folder.
Click [NEXT] button.
A JRE Finder is able to find javaw.exe automatically. Or you can indicate C:\j2re1.4.2_10\bin\javaw.exe directly.
Click [NEXT] button.
Finally, there are two Java Runtime Versions. Now you need to uncheck the Enabled column of 1.5 version and check 1.4 version.
Click [OK] button.
Well, in the General tab, I selected None for Proxies.
2.5 Launch an Integration Builder
In the Location field, I typed the URL of an Integration Builder jnlp.
http://<hostname>:50000/rep/start/repository.jnlp
SAP Integration Builder comes up inside Applications area.
Select it and click [Start] button.
If you click Environment-> Integration Builder (Configuration), you can launch Integration Builder: Configuration.

=========================================================I am not getting anywhere with deploying my application or

I have set up my bc4j project. It contains all my VO info,

I then have another project with DbInfo in it(has all my rowset

Actually I have an Applet.java file and a Application.java file
because I was seeing if both/either worked. Anyway they seem the
same, except for that extra window that comes up when you run the
applet.
I follow the steps in the oracle directions (from earlier post).
And all seems ok. But at ---->

created in step 3 above, if different from the default.</li>
[*]Select the HTML files that JDeveloper created to run your

[*]Select all of the Java source files in your project that make

I have no HTML file associated with my applet, at least that I
know of.
So do I need to create one, or should it of been done

Also, I trying to figure out what will be the best way to deploy

I haven't gotten either way to work yet. -
I would like to report a bug in Java.
It began with the rmi tutorial on computing pi.
I had no problem with this on a single computer but could never get it to work over the network. I posted messages on this forum and got lots of generous help, especially from Genady, but eventually I left it as an unsolved problem.
Yesterday I came back to my local network with my current problem and had problems similar to pi. Now at least I have more experience and I could track it down. It looks like a Java bug to me.
The hardware is: 1 router, behind which sit 2 computers: home-ilan at 192.168.2.100 and home-yona at 192.168.2.103. I have a client-server setup via rmi. If the server is on home-yona, all works OK. If the server is on home-ilan it fails. What could be the difference?
It turns out that home-ilan (my main computer) also has the possibility to run VPN to the hospital. The VPN uses a given IP. If I need to get to the hospital, I use the VPN. If not, I don't use it.
Yesterday I put Eclipse on home-yona and looked for the problem. It turns out to be in
Query q1 = (Query) Naming.lookup(rmi1);I was running the query from home-yona to home-ilan. I got a valid q1 back, and I drilled down into it. One of the elements is
ep=TCPEndpoint which has a host value.
The host value should have been 192.168.2.100, but instead it was the value of the VPN. The packet was sent from 192.168.2.100 to 192.168.2.103 and home-yona picked up the packet correctly, but it had the wrong value of the host. When I actually made the query to rmi, it expected the result from the VPN IP, which it never got, so it timed out.
The bug is that Naming.lookup, even though it got the packet through the LAN, gave VPN address. This would have been fine had I been querying from the hospital, but I was in fact doing a local query. The Naming.lookup doesn't differentiate, which is a bug.
The bug is 100% reproducible. If I start the server while VPN is running, from home-yona I will always get the VPN IP. If I start the server while VPN is turned off, I will get the correct address.
Any suggestions?
IlanIf that were the only thing which was wrong, we'd be in great shape. It is then a bug of Cisco Systems who supplied the VPN. I just took the default conditions and used them. I had no idea there was any problem until I ran the RMI protocol.
In fairness to Cisco Systems, I must say that it is unusal to say that I want a VPN connection into the hospital and at the same time make a connection over my local LAN. In fact it works for everything I happened to try up until now, but it fails for RMI (because of the static assignment).
The amazing thing is that with all these incompatible programs is not that sometimes it fails, but that it works at all. When I look at the Control Panel, I see 2 LAN connections, my local LAN and the VPN. I suspect I would have a very similar problem if I had 2 physical LAN cards.
The home-ilan identifies the computer and it doesn't identify the computer-lan combination.
What the RMI wants is not the computer identification, but rather the lan card identification. At least in the Control Panel, such a thing doesn't exist. -
I've recently gotten a new Windows 8 computer. Ever since, I've tried accessing certain websites (like www.cnet.com) and can't get the java scripts to load like for the drop down menus. When I hover over them they don't do anything. Other computers I have that run Windows 7 are working just fine.
I've upgraded Firefox and Java to all of the newest versions but it's still not working. When I go to the Java control panel, under "Advanced" and under "Default Java for browsers", the check box next to "Mozilla family" won't stay checked. I'll check it, click "Apply" and "Ok" and then when I open it back up it's unchecked again.

Problem with loading native library in java version "1.5.0_05"
My application uses a native coded drawing. With java version 1.4.xx it was working just fine but with java 1.5.xx it gives the following error at the time of loading native library:
java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: /home/abyzov/tmp/friend32-1.6.02/libfriend.so:
/home/abyzov/tmp/friend32-1.6.02/libfriend.so: undefined symbol: XtWindowToWidget
I assumed that java loads all necessary X-libraries at start up but it seems to be not true for version 1.5.xx. Does anybody now about this kind of problems? Should I report it as a bug?I have this exact same problem. I developed an application all along using 1.4.2_08 to be exact no problems. I was forced to switch to 1.5.0_06, now when I try to run the app I get:
java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: <path to library>/libcomlib.so: <path to library>/libcomlib.so: undefined symbol: yp_get_default_domain
I have tried compiling it in both 1.4.2_8 and 1.5.0_06 and it compiles perfectly but when I run with 1.5.0_06 it messes up.
If you found the problem with this or anyone else has any advice please let me know. -

A possible *bug* in java jcombobox
Hi all,
I think i found a possible bug in java jcombobox .. i am sure some of you must have already experienced it..
supposedly you put a jcombobox in a jpanel
returned the panel from a method to a calling method..
and that method adds it to another panel that it had created to a frame..
and if this happens dynamicaly at runtime, as only after u click a button..
meaning : without adding the combobox or the immediate parent panelto the contentpane .. directly..
Then,
your combox's keylistener may not catch events fired.
.. this has happened to me many times.. and always i could only find a way out
.. by adding the combobox to panel that is loaded during startup itself and is
.. not returned through a method call.
Your opinions please ?
'Harish. All components in a UI are created at run-time.
When you create your JFrame you call pack() to align and resize the UI. This validates all the components, and sets the default focus on what ever component should have the focus at start up.
When you create components and add them as children of another component you have to validate the child and parent. This can be done by calling JComponent.validate()
As for keylisteners not getting called, this might be fixed if you call grabFocus on the new combobox. I can't see a reason why any listener would stop working.
For me to really understand what your talking about. I'd need to see source code reproducing this problem.
