BUG: File History fails with no warning- Event ID 201

I apologize for the long post but I want to summarize everything I've learned about this so far, as it looks like a critical bug.
I am unable to get File History to backup my files with Windows 8.1.  I set up a 1 TB USB HDD as the target drive and it seemed to run for a minute or two, and then quit completely without any warning.  It created two empty folders on the target
HDD, but no data was backed up.  I then clicked "Run Now" to try and get it going again, but nothing happened.
Under "Advanced Settings" I opened the event log, and saw an Event ID 201 was created each time File History attempted to run: "Unable to scan user libraries for changes and perform backup of modified files for configuration C:\Users\MyUserName\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\FileHistory\Configuration\Config".
I've pasted the entire error below.  The "Event Log Online Help" link opens to "Page not Found" on TechNet.
A Google search revealed other users are experiencing this problem, too (links below).  Some people have been able to solve it by excluding libraries and/or moving all of their data out of the libraries then replacing it one folder at time, running
FH, and repeating until they find the "offending" file by error 201 occurring.
There are reports of similar problems with Event IDs 202, 203 and 204.   A similar, but separate error is "Unusual condition was encountered during scanning user libraries for changes and performing backup of modified files for configuration C:\Users\MyUserName\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\FileHistory\Configuration\Config".
Based on others' posts, the problem appears to be a bug in how FH handles files/folder names that are similar,
contain unusual (but legal) characters, and shortcuts ("reparse error").   The second bug is, regardless of which Event ID, that
FH does not alert the user when it fails, so you have no idea your files are not being backed up.  Even if you are able to eliminate the problem once, there is no guarantee that it won't happen again.  Once error 201 occurs, File
History is dead in the water and unfortunately since Windows 7 File Backup was removed, there is no alternative data backup method available.
If anyone has an idea of how to solve or work around this problem (i.e. under exactly what filename conditions FH fails), please post.  I have Windows 8.1 installed on drive C, Windows 7 on drive D, and a data partition E onto which I moved all my Libraries.
The Win 7 and 8.1 libraries are in separate folders and not linked in any way, so 8.1 is not trying to back up 7's data.  However, the partition arrangement does not appear relevant.
Thanks!

Hi, thanx for the post. It helped me to fix my Problem with file history.
In my case it was the spelling of some files. I'm German and we have some Special chars like ä,ö,ü and ß.
The "Problem" is that You can spell These also in a different way for example "ä" is same like "ae" and "ß" is same like "ss" .
If I Name one file like "groß.txt" and the other one "gross.txt" file history won't work! I don't know why, probably MS conversts the Name in the background or whatever - but this really
sucks!
Even more that You don't get informed! Only when checking the eventlog - and not even in the "normal" eventlog - You have to go to "Microsoft-Windows-FileHistory-Engine/BackupLog" - well, how often does one look up this??
I think file history is quite useless in this state as it does not inform the user about Problems with the backup. And I really don't want to get "informed" when I Need to restore some files...
Cheers

  • Queued files randomly failing with "Unknown error"

This making no sense. Any file I queue singularly into ME from premiere will export fine. If I queue up a bunch and let it go on its own, the files randomly fail. The log says unknown error.
I'm on win 7, I have 16 GB of RAM, I am using Mercury acceleration, ppreHeadless.exe is using 2.1 GB or RAM, resource monitor is telling em I have 5 GB of RAM not in use that is available and CPU usage is maxed.
ANY ideas what could be the issue?
    EDIT:
Seems ot be happening randomly with singular vids as well. All possible updates are installed. It gets right to rendering the last frame of the file and then hangs and then the sheep yells at me.
Edit 2: Exporting them right of Premiere works just fine.

  • Flat File reconciliation failing with no error

    Hello,
I'm trying to set up flat file reconciliation with OIM 11g. I've followed this guide
    http://www.oracle.com/webfolder/technetwork/tutorials/obe/fmw/oim/10.1.4/oim/obe12_using_gtc_for_reconciliation/using_the_gtc.htm
and configured the mapping for my fields. When I execute the scheduled task to launch the reconciliation process, I get no errors, but no user is created either. In OIM's output, the only message relevant to the reconciliation that is printed is
    <Sep 7, 2012 3:12:44 PM EDT> <Warning> <XELLERATE.GC.PROVIDER.RECONCILIATIONTRANSPORT> <BEA-000000> <FILE SUCCESSFULLY ARCHIVED : /u01/flat_files/hcm_1.txt>
In OIM's logs, there are a bunch of notifications about the values retrieved from the flat file, and the logs end with this :

  • BUG: implied .executeBatch() failing with new drivers?

Our application uses batching with SQLJ and is experiencing an issue with the latest driver versions and Java 1.5. It used to work fine when issuing a few INSERT statements with a specified execution context and then letting the SQLJ COMMIT execute the pending statements in the batch when the transaction was finished. With the new drivers, the SQLJ COMMIT is successful but it doesn't write any of the pending batches to database as it is supposed to (per the Oracle Database SQLJ Developer's Guide and Reference).
In a small testcase I prepared (see the next message for the code), it shows a new batch was created for the first statement (NEW_BATCH_COUNT returned). It also shows subsequent statements are added to the existing batch (ADD_BATCH_COUNT returned). The COUNT() statements show the data never makes it to the database and the table contents were verified in the database after program completion.

  • Openssh bug - GSSAPI authentication fails with Round Robin DNS hosts

    Hello,
today I run into this bug:
    https://bugzilla.mindrot.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1008
There is a patch for it (the one proposed by Simon Wilkinson which enable the GSSAPITrustDNS and it's known to work), but I noticed that unfortunately the version shipped by Arch Linux does not include it.
Is it possible to consider to rebuild the package (or having a fork) from the patched sources?
    Many thanks!

I would check if you are not getting a new IP after a connection drop, that might cause trouble with dyndns.
Do a dns lookup and check that you get the correct IP and not something like 127.0.0.1 or your previous IP. You can also try to connect using IP only after you start having problems and check if the problem is with dns or something else. Check the logs and look for anything suspicious.

  • Export Air file is failing with no results or messages

    Hello all,
I don't know if I am just being stupid, as what I am doing should be simple, but maybe I am. I am using the Burrito Preview, and I have an air app that I am trying to do a release export build to produce an AIR file from. However, when I do the release export build wizard, I get no output. I follow all of the steps of the output, and if I navigate to the folder I can watch the swf and air get created, along with a .tmp file. However, when the export completes, Flash Builder deletes these files AND the folder that they were supposed to be exported to. Thank goodness I was just trying to output to the standard bin-release not somewhere else. Has anyone else seen this problem? I looked through the log file and it doesn't seem to be appending anything to the file after I attempt a release. Any ideas would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Josh

    Update
The problem seems to be the verbosity level of the compiler and incorrect Application Descriptor file content (which Burrito generates)
I started compiling the app using the command line (amxmlc and adt) and got various error messages.
These errors where not reported during a regular build/test inside Burrito and are introdcued with Buritto/SDK 4.5.
These where some of the issues with my project:
    1) c:\PATH\TO\PROJECT\App.xml: error 303: Icon icons/appIcon_32.png is missing from package (manual addition to the App Descriptor file)
    2) c:\PATH\TO\PROJECT\App.xml(11): error 105: application.initialWindow.content contains an invalid value (generated on project creation in Burrito)
    3) c:\PATH\TO\PROJECT\App.xml(29): error 103: application.autoOrients is an unexpected element/attribute
    4) c:\PATH\TO\PROJECT\App.xml(30): error 103: application.fullScreen is an unexpected element/attribute
    5) c:\PATH\TO\PROJECT\App.xml(31): error 103: application.visible is an unexpected element/attribute
    6) undefined property: var appXML:XML = NativeApplication.nativeApplication.applicationDescriptor;
Error 2: Change the line: <content>[This value will be overwritten by Flash Builder in the output app.xml]</content>
    With: <content>YourApp.swf</content>
    Error 6:
Apparently NativeApplication.nativeApplication.applicationDescriptor is not available in Hero ?
Commenting out the offending lines solved the problems, the command line build succeeded and starting the build from Burrito worked also flawlessly

  • File Adapter: Fixed length file read fails when all data not present

    Hi
We have a BPEL process that reads fixed length data files. It works fine when all the data elements are available in the file but fails with 'rejected:10002' when even a single data is missing.
How to handle this situation in BPEL file adapter?
Are we doing something wrong or is this a normal functionality.
If yes, then is there any work around for this as this is a very usual business condition which may occur, where all data elements are not mandetory.

    Hi Naveen,
          Do check the following things,
    >>Note : I have been asked to give the Transport Protocol as "NFS" (Whether this is the problem???) I have summarized the complete details below. Please help me
1.If your file resides on your local network/local computer give NFS(Network file system). if your file resides on a FTP location give FTP and also give the FTP log on parameters.
    Additional Parameters
    File_MT.fieldFixedLengths 10,10,5
    File_MT.fieldNames VendorNumber,VendorName,City
    File_MT.fieldSeparator
    File_MT..processFieldNames fromConfiguration
2.If this structure does not match with the input file structure the file adapter wont pick up the file. So check for the help document provided by SAP in the following path.
    help.sap.com  --> Documentation  --> SAPNetWeaver --> SAPNetWeaver '04 --> English --> process integration --> SAP Exchange Infrastructure --> connectivity --> Adapters --> File Adapter
           Your file contains three records
    V123456789 A123456789 Bosto
    V234567890 B123456789 Atlan
    V334587900 C123456789 Austi
You have mentioned the fieldSeperator as space but there is no File_MT.endSeparator '/n'  which differentiates between each and every row (record).
Parameters for Record set Structures mentioned in the sender adapter configuration does not match with the actual file structure .
Try giving exact structures in the configuration of sender file adapter.
    regards,
    Aravindh.

  • File.seperator fails accessing jar resource

    my code is like this:
    URL myURL = getClass().getResource("image" + System.getProperty("file.seperator") + imageName);
It works perfectly when i run from my IDE. But when i package this into a JAR file, it fails with NullPointerException (it cant find the image in my JAR). When I look at what it is doing in the debugger, it seems to create the filename: "image%5c(imagename)" It uses %5c as a file seperator? escape code for "/" (windows environment) i presume??
If i change my code to "image" + "/" + imageName it works perfect, but this is windows dependent and I dont want to do that.
Has anyone come across this? what is a simple work around?

It's not Windows-dependent. You are producing a URL
there and they always, in all environments, use the /
character to separate path elements. So yes, you DO
want to do that.thank you. Why of course, it is a URL and URLs are always using "/".
So I understand correctly ... if i reference actual FILES on my computer, i should STILL use System.getProperty(file.separator), though, right?

  • Updates not applying: Scan failed with error = 0x80072efd.

Hi, I'm trying to troubleshoot windows updates which are configured through SCCM2012R2.  The WSUS server is installed on server 2012R2, version 6.3.9600.16384.   I have it running on the custom website (using ports 8530 and 8531).  For
a few weeks, my clients were configured with a conflicting group policy (pointing to the old wsus server).  I removed that policy, and now the sccm agent is setting the local group policy to use the proper wusus server.  Clients are windows 7 enterprise.
These clients do not have access to the internet.
Now, updates are still failing, with the following events in the wuahandler.log
    Its a WSUS Update Source type ({8C51EBC1-265B-4889-8CC4-0B9EF237D704}), adding it.WUAHandler 4/9/2014 4:53:09 PM 4028 (0x0FBC)

    Scan failed with error = 0x80072efd. WUAHandler 4/9/2014 4:53:12 PM 4028 (0x0FBC)
For troubleshooting so far, I have disabled the client firewall, restarted the wsus server, and confirmed that the clients can get to the default IIS page on the wsus server.  I'll try reinstalling the sccm client now, and will report back.
After much searching, none of the answers I have found online were of any help.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

I did manage to reinstall the client, and when I look at WUAhandler.log now, I see the following:
Its a WSUS Update Source type ({8C51EBC1-265B-4889-8CC4-0B9EF237D704}), adding it. WUAHandler 4/9/2014 5:42:57 PM 3344 (0x0D10)

Waiting for 2 mins for Group Policy to notify of WUA policy change... WUAHandler 4/9/2014 5:42:57 PM 3344 (0x0D10)
Unable to read existing WUA resultant policy. Error = 0x80070002. WUAHandler 4/9/2014 5:43:01 PM 3344 (0x0D10)
Group policy settings were overwritten by a higher authority (Domain Controller) to: Server and Policy NOT CONFIGURED WUAHandler 4/9/2014 5:43:01 PM 3344 (0x0D10)Failed to Add Update Source for WUAgent of type (2) and id ({8C51EBC1-265B-4889-8CC4-0B9EF237D704}). Error = 0x87d00692.
So that's strange, if it's NOT CONFIGURED (microsoft's caps), you wouldn't think it would be a problem.  So, If I generate a group policy results report, I get the following:
Policy:Specify intranet Microsoft update service location
    Setting: Enabled
    Winning GPO: Local Group Policy
Set the intranet update service for detecting updates: http://Myserver-12R2-WSUS.MyDomain.local:8530
Set the intranet statistics server: http://Myserver-12R2-WSUS.MyDomain.local:8530
Which is exactly what I think the SCCM agent is supposed to do.
Thanks in advance.  Hopefully one of the wise souls in this forum can lead me to the light!
    Kevin
P.S. I can post the full log if anyone's interested.

  • File history stopped working after a warning message in the event log

I have encountered this twice that File history stopped working, the event log says:
Unusual condition was encountered during finalization of a backup cycle for configuration C:\Users\xxxx\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\FileHistory\Configuration\Config
If I re-run it, it consumes the backup disk space but still failed to backup.
I have to manually delete all backup, turn off File History and re-configure it again to make it work.
This happened twice already, so all my file history lost after re-config.
    Anyone encounter the same situation?

    MICROSOFT is plagued by idiots!!!!
    - Just turn it off
    - then click  "select drive"
    - and when it asks you the retarded question... just click >>>>>"NO"<<<<<<<    -_-
Seriously... this is the answer.... frigging retards at microsoft... to think it takes an army of programmers and billions of dollars to create such idiocy!

I cant believe these morons put everyone through such hell and then don't even bother to follow up with the correct solution.
To top it of the moron moderator marks this as an answer??!!!
What a pathetic joke - I hope everyone reads this message before being punished by the miles of bullcrap in this thread -_-
    Microsoft = ridiculous
Thanks! I guess the TL;DR version is "to change your file history drive you need to discard the current temp files."
    Exactly :)
It's the bad wording in the messages.
the first message (which I can only vaguely remember so can't quote exactly) that gives you the impression you can continue
something but doesn't make clear that to so will need the "old drive" configured the way the "old drive" was.
Then the next message is just confusing:
“we can't copy files to this location.  Your current File History drive is disconnected.  Reconnect the drive and try again”
    sounds like
“we can't copy files to this location. [because there's a problem with the new location]
Your current File History drive is disconnected. [the new location is disconnected]
Reconnect the drive and try again [reconnect your new location and try again]”
When it should be reworded to say something along the lines of (in more formal language):
"You asked us to continue...give us the drive you were previously using...or if it's no longer available, click here to start from scratch"
(I know that's all the opposite of tldr but I'm trying again to put into words what I think was happening).

  • File History Bug - Retains Only Last Version of Each File

I've just discovered what I believe to be a serious bug in File History on Windows 8.1.  Here's what's happening:
My files are backed up using File History on a 1TB external USB hard drive with 17.5GB free.  Currently 9GB of selected documents, etc., is being backed up and the aforementioned free space is what is available after 9GB has been backed up.  My
File History settings are pretty normal / default.  It backs up every hour.  However, I've set it to keep saved versions 'until space is needed'.  I noticed recently that, despite having plenty of free space, File History has only been retaining
the last copy of each of my backed up files.  It didn't communicate this to me, e.g., via an error.  I just happened to look to see how many versions were being retained.
I've played around with it a bit to investigate.  First I blew away my FileHistory folder on the external drive and also the FileHistory folder from my user profile cache then set File History up again from scratch.  I then ran a completely fresh
backup and changed some files and ran File History again.  This did not fix the bug.  File History was still retaining only the last file version and not notifying me of why or of any problem.  I checked the FileHistory-Core and FileHistory-Engine
logs and, of course, no relevant errors were logged (typical for Windows event logs by the way).
I then tried changing the retention setting from 'until space is needed' to '1 year' and tested again by changing files and running File History.  It appears to be retaining earlier versions and working now.
This definitely looks like a bug to me.  Have Microsoft confirmed this and are they working on a fix ?
It makes me wonder if File History keeps a large free space threshold when you specify 'until space is needed', e.g., 10GB or 1% of drive size.  When free space drops below this value, only one backup copy (the last one) is retained for each file.  Is
this the case ?  Why doesn't it communicate this to the user ?
    Details:
    O/S: Windows 8.1 Pro x64 (upgraded in-place from 8.0)
HDD: Western Digital MyBook 1TB (no 3rd party software installed for this).
"Keep a cool head and always carry a lightbulb."

    Hi,
Windows use this following API to determine if previous retention should be deleted:
FH_RETENTION_TYPES which specifies under what conditions previous versions of files and folders can be deleted from a backup target
The operating system deletes previous versions from a backup target only when the target is full.
According to your description, your external drive should be less than 10% free space, this is a low disk space warning in system.
Above, this is just my hypothesis, I did some test in my environment, when the disk free space is more than 10%, I can see multiple versions of file history, but when it is less than 10%, it would just keep the latest modification version.

Thanks for clarifying this Alex.  I still consider this a bug / design flaw in Windows as it is pruning backups long before the drive is actually full.  If there is, as you say, a large 10% low space threshold, the system should communicate to the
user that it is pruning all but one copy of backup files.  Could this be logged as a bug please ?
