Bug? - Quick Collections and Flags

I have found that "Flags" do no stick in "Quick Collection". The process I am using is;
1. Add a number of photos to the quick collection.
2. Select quick collection then go through photos and flag photos as selected or rejected.
3. Select something else in Library like "All Photographs"
4. Notice that the photos you just flagged are no longer flagged.
I am running Vista 32bit. I have not tried this with other collections.
Are others having this problem with other OS's?
David.

I would like to see global flags, ratings, labels, etc. I use iView MediaPro right now, and this is how it works, and it works well (admittedly for me). Basically, I would use a collection to narrow down my images to review a "subset." However, once I am done and return to "All Photographs" and then filter by flag status, for example, all of my work is gone. Granted, I can return to the collection to see the "local" flag status, but what if I want to see flag status for all images in my database, not just for a small collection of images?
Add my support to this request.

  • Missing Quick Collections and Previous Import tabs

I hope I can explain this - I recently moved from PC to MAC.  I reinstalled lightoom and imported all my images from backup. Everything has been working fine.  I just noticed that I dont have the Prevoius Import and Quick Collections folders showing in the panel.
I have Navigator - Folders (where all my images show up) and Collections
I can save to quick collections and show quick collections from the pull down menu. I have looked in all the setting and view options.  What the heck have I done wrong!!

    Smathia,
What you're missing is the "Catalog" section of the left panel. Right click (ctrl-click for mac) into any other section header and check "Catalog".

  • Multiple collections and flags

    I have 2 collections - collection A and collection B.
    I have a picture X. Picture X is part of collection A and B
If I mark picture X with reject flag in collection A should this picture X be market as reject in collection B. Is there a setting with will let me to do it ?
    Thx
    Chris

I just want to say I agree that labels should be local or you should have the option! Moreover I have a lot of problems with lables. If I leave a field empty (purple) and then click on "none" it lables it purple, which technically is correct but I dont want any color. So I then need to give purple a name then click none and no color label will be assigned. Does this make sense? I'm still confused on how to assign a Color Label Set to folders/collections and what happens when you switch the assigned set. Plus when I go to edit a set my changes never stick. I've given up using labels. I find the documentation on this is zero. Both in D65 pdf, Evening's book and here on line. If I have missed something please provide a link. This has made the learning curve very steep. Please give us the option to set local or global for labels.
    Thanks,

  • Catalogs, collections and flags

When I move folders between catalogs how do I save my rating system ( flags, stars etc.)  Also how can I move a collection between catalogs? Thanks for your help....Doc

Just to point out that method will give the exported content to the other catalog. So the source and destination catalog will overlap for the exchanged folder.
But if you really would want to MOVE, i.e. remove them from your original source catalog so that they do not overlap, you'd still have to do another step.
Close the databse of the destination catalog, open the source catalog, select the folder and choose "remove from catalog". NOT from disk - as you would rob the other catalog of the referenced files.
Perhaps you describe what you really intend to achieve, and we might be able to show you how to do in 1 catalog.
Which I second dj_paige is the way for most people.
When in the field with a small laptop, ou may start a new catalog for the shoot, but that is a transportation vehicle IMO to be merged back home into a MAster Catalog.
Don't get confused by the term "catalog": it is a database.

  • Bug - LR3.2 unable to reorder photos in quick collection / survey view

After editing photos in Photoshop CS3, I'm looking at them in Quick Collection and want to reorder them before export. But it doesn't work. Sometimes I can move a photo one place, but not two, sometimes not at all. I have other RAW photos in Quick Collection. I seem to be able to reorder them amongst themselves, but not move them into the Photoshop .psd photos. I sometimes get an error message "cannot complete assertion", sometimes accompanied by crash.
First time I've seen this. Also Photoshop files are now appearing as the first images in quick collection whereas they used to be grouped next to the RAW file I was editing.
    Similar behaviour in Survey View.

These .psd photos  appear to be corrupted in some way. One didn't show the changes I had made in PS, but then when I reopened in PS the changes reappeared. I was able to reorder them finally in a Collection.

  • Images previously imported disappear in Quick Collection

I have been using the trial version of Lightroom for about a
week.  I have successfully imported my database (500GB+), added keywords,
ratings, flags, exported and imported images.  I have also been using Quick Collections for the past couple of days with no problems.
Yesterday, after creating a quick collection the program suddenly shut down (this is the second sudden shut-down in the past three days).  When I reopened it, several images that were in the Quick Collection and in the original folder were not visible.  I tried to reimport them to the original folder but was "told" they were already there and to allow the library view (?- could be wrong terminology).  They still did not show.
Today after rebooting and reopening Lightroom I was able to reimport them successfully.
I don't understand why they had to be reimported.  Why were they lost in the first place?  More concerning is the sudden shut-down twice in three days.
    Thanks.

  • Filter quick collection issue

Don't know if this is an issue only seen in LR 2.2 or if it's prevalent in older versions as well. I'm on 2.2 for Mac.
I've added a bunch of images from one folder to a quick collection and working in the quick collection I've assigned star ratings to them. When I filter the quick collection using "rating = *****" I get 18 results while I have actually assigned a 5 star rating to 42 images that reside in the quick collection. When I switch back to the folder containing the images and filter it using the same "rating = *****", I get all those 42 results.
Unless I'm doing something wrong I can not count on filtering in the quick collection. Is this the way it's supposed to work?

Dang, Dorin, how could I have overlooked it: I had the (quiet inconspicuous) "no label" filter set to ON. Overlooked it maybe 20 times! Hadn't you stated you don't see this behaviour, I wouldn't have looked again for the 21st time.
Thanks for replying, both of you. Problem solved + a nice link to bookmark for future reference.
    Thanks again!

  • Drag and Drop into quick collection

Since 5.4, the only way I can add images to a quick collectoin is to set it as the target collection and use the B key or click the target collection icon on the image.  Before i could drag images from the grid of filmstrip just like any other collection, that no longer works.  I prefer to keep a different colleciton my target collection because the quick collecton is always at the top and easy to drag to.
Seems like a bug?  Tried it on 3 different macs all running OS x 10.9.2

Yes it does look like a bug. It works fine on all of my catalogs apart from the one that I use to sync with LR mobile....in that catalog it will work if I sign out of LR mobile, but breaks again when I sign back in.

  • Can't 'Create Saved Book' and continue to use Quick Collection to update book?

I was creating a book in LR4.1 using a Quick Collection. After getting pretty far into my book and being content with my progress, I clicked 'Create Saved Book'. Now I found that I couldn't access the Quick Collection I was using to continue updating my book. I could only access one or the other (the saved book at it's current incomplete state OR the Quick Collection with a blank book layout). What did I do wrong??

The saved book is now a new collection, with a book-icon in front. You add more images by adding them (e.g. via drag and drop) to this new collection in library module.
While selected you switch over to book module and can continue to add pages and fill them with the newly added images.
You might run into another bug though, by which you will have lost your entire layout, but the filmstrip still claims the number how often an image was placed into the lost layout.
If you are working on a book be sure to create a backup of your catalog every time you exit LR as this might be your only way to retrieve at least an older status of your book.
Copy-paste text into text boxes in book module has been reported to trigger the bug rather often.
    Good luck,
    Cornelia

  • I have and existing collection.  How can I merge images in a Quick Collection into the existing one?

I wish to add images to an existing collection.  Currently I want to add images in a Quick Collection into an already named collection.  I am using LR3.  How do I do that?

Select and then right-click the collection that you want the images added into. Select <Set as Target Collection>. A "+" sign appears besides this collection.
Then select your Quick Collection (or whatever images you want to add to this collection) in the Grid Mode. Click Ctrl/Cmd + A to select all images in this collection. Then press letter "B" on your keyboard. That will add all these images to your target selection.

  • Replace LightRoom's Quick Collection in Aperture 3

I moved over from LR 2.5 to Aperture 3 and would like to find the best way to replace the Quick Collection function in LR. To create a quick collection in LR you would simply hit the b key and any selected photos would automatically show up in a quick collection folder. To remove those photos from the quick collection folder you just selected them and hit the b key to remove them.
I know this same thing can be accomplished in AP3 via a keyword and a smart folder, but is there any easier way than having to keyword all the photos I want to quickly segregate into a folder? Is there anything as fast as the way LR handled this?
    Ken

You could use flags to do this. Flag every photo you want (keyboard shortcut: '/'), then create an album and use the "Flagged" smart album to grab the images. Then just unflag them all.
Maybe one more step in practice, but you'll get the same effect. You could also use a label to do the same if you wanted.

  • Quick Collection Issue

I'm having strange issues with the Quick Collection tool, in my old catalog and a newly created (in 1.1) one. I can use the Add to Quick Collection shortcuts et all, and they're added to the Quick Collection as well (number after the Quick Collection in the Library panel), but when I click on the Quick Collection in that same Library panel, it doesn't update the Library view to what's actually in the Quick Selection but shows whatever was active before clicking on Quick Selection. If I Save the Quick Collection to another collection that newly saved collections works fine, and it does contain the right images which I can select and use, but this is cumbersome. Since this is an issue with a very basic and often used tool, I'm wondering what's going on.
    OS X 10.4.10, Intel MacBook, 2GB RAM

Yup, had same problem as yours with Quick Collections containing files,
but not showing them - at least in Win-XP ... simple solution [bug reported]: in 'Library' menu, turn ON the "Include Photos from Submenu" toggle switch (just click on it, and a checkmark appears to its left). And voila, your photos appear as if by magic.
Not the worst 1.1 bug perhaps, more of a glitch, but sure irksome till resolved. Good luck!

  • Quick collection marker anamolie?

Under View Options I ticked 'Include Quick Collection Markers'. But when I clicked on the circle on a thumb, nothing happened. I discovered that the markers only becomes live if I also have 'Include Thumbnail Badges' ticked.
Is this as intended? Or a bug?
    Sally

It seems to me that's consistent, and intended.

  • Installing cs3 master collection and cs5 production premium on windows 7 machine

I have a windows 7 ultimate machine that I would like to install CS3 Master Collection on. I would then like to upgrade the Production Premium programs to CS5.
I have the install discs for both. Any suggestions for how to go about doing this would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Tahseen,
    Thanks for the quick reply!
Both CS3 Master Collection and CS5 Production Premium are full installs, neither is an upgrade. I have serial numbers for both.
Machine previously had CS4 Production Premium installed on it, that has been uninstalled.
Should I install CS3 Master Collection then install CS5 Production Premium? If so, do I need to remove the CS3 versions of programs included in Production Premium before installing CS5 Production Premium?
    Thanks again!

  • Search does not crawl new site collection and documents

We have the following situation. We have two locations with different farms sharing the same databases (using AlwaysOn for the content databases). Everything works fine, the second site is also read-only while having the primary farm online. For existing
databases the search crawler on the second site is able to crawl existing site collections.
For new site collections created on the first farm the crawler on the first farm indexes the content proberly. The second farm though is not knowledgable of the content unless you force him to reiterate the content database. After this procedure the sites
are available on the second site as well (showing them in the web browser), but the search farm still is not able to see the new site collection and data created within.
Is there any additional iteration we have to go through making the crawler aware of the new structure / content ?
    Thanks in advance, Jens

    Nope.
Change log wipes are real, that's how incremental crawls work in SharePoint.
Site A is created and modified. Changes are mirrored to the second AG, content is added, logged in the changes log and then removed as the crawler on the primary farm indexes it.
This continues until you make farm 2 aware of the changes. At that point farm 2 will look for any changes to the content in the change logs on the newly added sites. Which will be empty, or at least not contain any changes since the primary farm's last crawl.
That explains why you don't get sites indexed properly when they are added but would explain why some content is indexed afterwards which i believe is the case?
The second issue you'll find is that the crawls won't synchronise. Assuming continuous crawls kicking off at the same time you'll end up in a race between the two. If the primary farm is quicker then the second farm will continuously fall behind then catch
up and go ahead of the primary indexing process, but if the secondary farm is faster then it'll race off into the distance and then any changes that occur between the secondary farm indexing a site and the primary indexing the site will be lost on the secondary
    farm.
You'll have to run full crawls. Unless MS have done a lot of work on the supporting infrastructure incremental or continuous crawls of AOAGs won't work well.
