Bug with .ics files !!

Hi
I have a web based calendar that sends me bookings and deletions via .ics files. I believed that iCal was fully functional with vCalendar format.
ICal will accept the booking but will not delete it. (Outlook works fine with these files)
The code is:

  • Trouble with .ics file and incorrect appointment times

My problem sounds quite similar to many of the other discussions within this community and the net in general. However I have yet to find a solution to my issue.
When receiving an email with an attached .ics file it imports into Calendar two hours later than the actual event. I have double checked that my time zone setting is correct in the General Settings and, as has been suggested, turning off "TIme Zone Support" in the Mail, Contacts, Calendar settings. The .ics files I receive are created in the same time zone as I.
When opening the email on my Laptop and importing the .ics file it is correct in iCal which, to me, means I have an incorrect setting on my iPhone.
Is it a coincidence that the import on my phone sets its own alert time at two hours and that's the same time differential that the event is incorrect? There is no set alert time when importing the file on my laptop. I also have no default alert times set in my phone settings.
The only way I can get it to work is if I open it on my laptop first then sync my phone. It's unfortunate that I rarely have the luxury of having my laptop with me.
So, simply stated, the file imports perfectly on my MacBook but not on my iPhone. What settings on the phone am I missing? Ive tried settings in different ways and in different combinations with restarts in between and still no luck.

    Greetings,
If nothing shows up that suggests:
    A. There is nothing in that .ics file
    B. The date you are looking at does not have anything associated with this .ics file
    C. There is something wrong with iCal / it's database.
Try importing that calendar into iCal into a new calendar and then uncheck all the calendars but the new one. Now go to month view and go forward and backward and see if there is anything showing up in iCal.
If there is still nothing try adding a different calendar to make iCal is working as this could just be a bad calendar or a calendar with nothing in it: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/calendars/
    Hope that helps.

  • 2.1 Bug with uploaded files?

    Hi,
I'm not sure if we're posting bugs to the forum but i'll just post it up here anyway..
I'm using HTMLDB 2.1 running on Oracle Express and uploaded a javascript file (into 'static files') so that i could reference it from a page.
My page was working fine when all of a sudden the page started to produce an error. The error was being caused by the fact that it could no longer find the javascript file (i'd been using it and testing it fine for an hour or so with no errors)..
The file was was referenced from the page as :-
    <script language="javascript" src="#FLOW_IMAGES#LinkMenu.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
When I looked in the 'static files' section my javascript file was no longer listed. I thought that maybe I had accidentally deleted it (I was 99.9% sure i hadnt ) .. so I tried to upload it again but received a 'unique constraint violated'..
Looking in WWV_FLOW_HTML_REPOSITORY it seems that my file still had an entry and yet did not appear in 'static files' view..
I've sorted it out now but thought I'd just post my rather unusual problem.
    Cheers,
    Paul Ashton.

Well, I was wondering if I was being hasty using the word 'bug' (sorry to those who it may offend ;) )..
So, I'll accept some 'operator' error for this... however its probably still worth sharing..
I found the cause of the problem to be an unqualified delete on the htmldb_application_files 'table'... this is the erroneous statement :-
    DELETE FROM htmldb_application_files;
    -- WHERE name=:P18_FILENAME;
I'm working on a new file upload/management application and I had mistakenly commented out the WHERE clause. However, it did leave me in the odd situation of the record still remaining in the WWV_FLOW_HTML_REPOSITORY table that resulted in the unique constraint violation...
    Cheers,
    Paul Ashton.

  • 5.1.2 Audio bug with AIFF files

I've encountered a strange bug after upgrading to 5.1.2 today. I have 3 Macs with FCP (all upgraded to 5.1.2 today). Was working on a project at work on one of them today and everything worked fine. I imported an AIFF file and decreased the levels on it as part of the project.
When I brought my project home (I use hot swap hard drives), I went to adjust the levels of that same AIFF file within my project. However, the viewer pane went half black, it did not show me any bit of the audio file and it's peaks. However, I could still adjust the levels. It just seemed to be that there was some sort of video display bug when I tried to adjust the AIFF file in the viewer.
I looked at some other audio files (recorded through the voiceover control) and they appeared fine in the viewer. Only AIFF files gave me this bug. To try and remedy the problem I tried other AIFF files and also tried restarting the project, etc. Nothing cleared up this problem though. Anyone else experience this?

  • Audio bug with WAV files: use mp3, not wav for syncing long audio files

    Just a tip:
I've noticed another audio bug in Presenter (including 7.05) but there is a workaround. I often export the audio as a single, long clip from pre-recorded lecture videos, and sync it with the powerpoint slides in Presenter. I've found it easiest to import the long audio file into the first slide, then sync using the Edit Audio window. I find that much easier to use than the Sync audio window.
However, If you use WAV format for the imported audio file, sometimes Presenter will simply refuse to play back anything beyond about 5 minutes into the timeline in the Edit Audio window. Nothing fixes it - restarting, re-importing, etc. However the problem goes away if you save the audio as mp3.

  • Bridge bug with .ste files?

I have been having a problem recently, with Bridge crashing.  The issue has started in the past few weeks, after I downloaded some Adobe updates.  I have updated my video drivers and done everything else I can think of but I continued to have the problem.
    Any suggestions?

Bug, not likely,  but contaminated file, perhaps.  If  the crash happens with one folder, then purge the folder and let it rebuilt.  Also, compact cache to get rid of orphans and reduce cache size.
A crash can be more likely if you change folders before the cache is finished building (spinning arrow on bottom).
Other options, defrag the hard dirve, purge all cache, reset preferences if none of this works.

  • Lightroom 2.1 History Bug with Edited File

I downloaded Lightroom 2.1 and now when I edit a file in Photoshop and then it comes back into Lightroom, if I click on one of the Presets, such as a B&W preset, then there is no way to get back to the edited file in color. The first entry in the History is the B&W preset, and I can't undo past that point to return to the color version of the edited file.
Seems like it's not making a "edit in photoshop" history item that allows me to return to the original.

I'm back trying to sort this problem out (got distracted for a couple of days by trying to get my monitor calibrated).
Rearranging the folder structure didn't help. But I now have a better organized catalog, so that's ok :)
What I did find is that if I import files into lightroom using the "file/import photos from device", then I can edit them normally afterwards (that is, when I save the file in photoshop cs3, the new file gets picked up correctly by lightroom and gets correctly stacked with the original). This is true even if the new files get added into the same directory structure that I'm having troubles with.
So it looks like the directory structure is a red herring. It looks like the problem is in the catalog, with the way that lightroom originally imported my files. I created my original catalog by allowing lightroom to read my elements 6 catalog.
It seems that I have this edit problem with all catalog entries that were imported from elements 6, but I don't have any problem with catalog entries that lightroom brings in directly (either through "import photos from device" or by adding a new folder to the lightroom catalog).
So right now it looks like there is a problem with the elements catalog conversion.
Is this a problem that anybody else has seen? Any suggestions for getting around it?

  • Incorrect date with date from Windows ics Files since installing OS X Mountain

since installing OS X mounting the introducing fo dates with windows ics files is 5 month earlier. With iPhone no problem.

I'm having the same problem on my late 2008 MBP 15".  Never had a problem before installing Mountain Lion.   Now I have to reboot about 4-5 times a week.
My computer doesn't lock up completely.    But Wi-Fi stops (you see only one black line on the WiFi icon), the clock stops (I was wondering why it seemed so early earlier tonight - the clock had been stopped for two hours) and many, but not all applications are "not responding".    However, if I try to quit the applications that appear to be okay, then they also become "not responding".   I have to force shut each application and then I can reboot using the Apple>Restart... command.
One of the things I've noticed is that many times it's iTunes that has the "not responding" message when the other apps don't, even if I haven't used it.   I'm going to Quit iTunes and see if it still happens.
I don't think it's heat related.  My computer feels no hotter than it ever did.
If 10.8.1 fixes this, I'm okay with it (although it was still sloppy for Apple to release with such a bug.)    But the question is whether Apple even knows about it, since they provide no mechanism for non-developers to report bugs.

  • Very strange bug when importing ICS files

Hiyas.. I have two ICS files, one for calendar entries during november, one for entries during december. According to all I can see, both files only contain entries for the corresponding month.
Now.. when I import them into a calendar, I import November. Works fine. Now I import December. Works fine too for december, but it deletes entries in November. So I imort november again. Now I have all entries for november, but it deletes entries (not all, just some) in December.
From all I can see, the ICS files are correct. I really don't get it. Is this some kind of an unknown bu in iCal?
The files can be downloaded from
    http://www.misteli.ch/november2008.xls.ics
    http://www.misteli.ch/december2008.xls.ics
since I cannot attach them to this posting.
Does anyone have a clue about whats going on here?
    Thanks in advance
    Rog

That might work, but the problem is, this is my girlfriend's working calendar and I want to publish it to MobileMe, so both me and her have it. Okay, I could use two separate calendars and publish them both, but that would be quiet a bit clumsy. If this is the only way it works, I can do it I guess. I just wondered if this wasn't rather an iCal Bug that needs to be fixed in the next version or if I did something completely wrong there.
You see.. her calendar comes in the form of an Excel file. I wrote some code to parse the XLS file, read the information from that file and create an ICS file that I can import into iCal. The idea was to use an autoamted task for that, but I didn't continue that path yet. So, it was perfectly understandble if I created crap in the ICS files, but from all I can see when I open it with TextWrangler, the ICS files are up to spec and correct.
    Thanks anyway though!

Okay, i have 2 bugs with maverick.  First, when I delete a file within a window, the files deletes but the preview doesn't delete until I close the window and reopen it.  Second, I work on a network of computers and the search feature is now buggy...  When I search for a file, A) it asks me if it's a name, or it wont produce anything, and B), its slower than in prior OS versions and in some instances I have to toggle to a different directory and go back to my original directory in the search: menu bar or the search wont produce anything...  Very buggy.

It appears to me that network file access is buggy in Maverick.
In my case I have a USB Drive attached to airport extreme (new model) and when I open folders on that drive they all appear empty. If I right click and I select get info after a few minutes! I get a list of the content.
It makes impossible navigate a directory tree.
File access has been trashed in Maverick.
They have improved (read broken) Finder. I need to manage a way to downgrade to Lion again.

  • Can't open shared .ics file with iPhone

I am trying to sync my iPhone calendars with the calendar on my PC that is in .ics format.  The .ics file is located on a home server that allows both me and my wife to see each other’s calendars and its been working great.  Now, I want to be able to see my calendar from my iPhone 4 (with OS 5.1.1) .. and I’ve tried setting it up with:  settings --> mail, contacts, calendars --> add account --> other --> add subscribed Calendar.
With every possible config I can think of, I get the same response: "Calendar Subscription -- Unable to verify account information"
For server name, I’ve tried actual servername, ip address, etc; we do have security on the server but I put in the account name and password … ‘nuthin! “Unable to verify …”
Through the phone's browser, I am able to open up the folder on our server and see the.ics file. The path is xxxx.homeserver.com/webcal/nat_calendar.ics. I've tried sending an invite to myself, opening it in the phone, clicking on the link and I get this error: Cannot Subscribe: Could not subscribe to the calendar "nat_calendar.ics from "myservername".
Seems simple, what am I missing here.
    Any ideas?
    -- Nat

OK ... so not too many others have had this issue -- but for those in the future, here's how to solve it.  Go to this brilliant post by Joe Bradford:  essentially my problem as was his in part --  was caused by having the wrong MIME type in IIS (my webserver).  By going into the web server and changing the MIME type from application/octet-stream to text/calendar fixes the problem and the iPhone can now subscribe to the Outlook-generated calendar file (.ics).
Thankfully, I did not have the additional problem of an errant Byte Order Mark in the hexidecimal structure of the file which Joe also had to surgically remove (see issue 2 in post above).
(Given this was a cross platform issue -- Apple and MSFT -- I have to put this one at the feet of Apple for not coding the iPhone to open a webDAV (.ics) calendar file regardless of its MIME type ...)

  • Bridge CS6 open file bug with Hasselblad RAW file

There is a bug in Bridge CS6 (or RAW editor?) with (some) Hasselblad RAW files. I have a set of FFF files that I can use and open without problems in Bridge CS6 (5.0.0.399 x64). But one file of them does not show a preview icon and when I try to open it in PS6 or RAW editor, I get an errormessage "unexpected end of file...". When I open the same file in Hasselblad "Phocus" software there is no problem. I can see the preview thumb and I can play around with the file and even export to TIF or DNG without any trouble. I can even open the exported DNG in PS or Bridge/RAW editor then.
Well, you might say I should not care for a single file but it leaves a bad taste, when the Hasselblad software can handle the file without problems...
If some developer want to take a look at this I could provide original files.

    Curt Y wrote:
Also, be sure to use a card reader for file transfer as a camera transfer can introduce errors.
I work with a Hasselblad medium format camera. I do not have a CF card in use. And I can tell that this worked absolutely flawless for many years. I NEVER had corrupted files caused by transfer. Many photographers using pro medium format cameras work the same way (Phase One, Leaf, etc.). They do not use CF cards but firewire cable. the problem arised when I started using the CS6 Bridge software. And it turned out that I get more and more corrupted files which appeared to be fine before. So from one shooting i.e. 1 file of 100 was corrupted first. Since I started using Bridge and changed RAW settings and worked with the same files after some days I have 5 corrupted files of 100 now. And NO it is not my system. It works fine with other camera RAWs where I have absolutely no problems. It is only the Hasselblad files. Though I still can open the Hasselblad RAW files with the Hasselblad software. The problems are only with the Bridge (respectively the raw editor) in combination with the Hasselblad files.
To me it looks like CS is corrupting the files since they worked fine at first - even in CS and after some days playing around in CS the appear to be corrupted. Funny that I can open the same files without problems using a different software - isn't it? ;-)
thanks for the link I will try it.... :-)

  • Editing .ics files with BBEdit

I'd like to change a name that exists on all my calendars in iCal, but cannot see how to do this.
The 1st problem is that Find .ics files doesn't find all of my calendars - tho' some do show up in username->Library->Application Support->SyncService->Backup Data->Calendars (and LastSync data>Calendars).
The 2nd problem is: I quit iCal then open an .ics file with BBEdit and do Search & Replace - it finds a number of occurrences and reports them changed. I close the BBEdit file and relaunch iCal, but the new name doesn't appear.
    Any help gratefully received.

    Gillylal Fordham-Lear,
I'd like to change a name that exists on all my calendars in iCal, but cannot see how to do this.
Why are you not using the iCal user interface to accomplish your objectives?
Attempting to modify files or or using the OS X file structure to make changes to the user interface is problematical at best, and destructive to your files at worst.
Data which appears to have been changed successfully will revert to the previous state because the old information remains in a cache.
