Building Diagrams in Flex

Hi,
I want to represent nodes in an XML document in a diagram similar to a class diagram.
So for example I would have a root node and its child nodes linked to it.
Are there any libraries that already do this or would anyone have any pointers?
Thanks

Hi grace,
I want to build topology diagrams in Flex 2. Is it possible? Are there any prototypes like TWaver built on Flex 2? Twaver is built on Flex 3 and i cant use it on Flex Builder 2....
P.S: I dont have Flex 3 SDK or Flex Builder 3 and i cant even avail it any time sooner.

  • Building Topology Diagrams in Flex 2

    Hi All,
I want to build a topology diagram in Flex 2. Is it possible? I wanna have a set of images which cud be drag - drop enabled. I should be able to link the different nodes in the hierarchy based on its status with Arrows(different kinds). And each node(represented by diff images) will have its own set of properties (could be referred from the database.). How do i go about doing this. Awaiting your suggestions and possible links to such existing prototypes.
    Thank you

  • Any tutorials on how to use the daily build of the Flex SDK to create Flash Player 10 content?

Is there a tutorial on Adobe on how to use the daily build of
the Flex SDK to create Flash Player 10 content?

The approach you take might depend on a few things, but it boils down to using mouse interactive coding to trigger whatever effect you eventually realize.  The code you use will depend on the version of Actionscript you plan to use.
You could make this as a movieclip that is normally stopped at its first frame and when you mouseover or click the movieclip, it animates along its own timeline to its enlarged state.  If the thumbnail is very small and the larger version is substantially larger, and both need to be clear images, this might be the better approach.
If this only involves enlarging something, you could also probably realize it just using Actionscript Tween coding rather than timeline animation.

  • Flash Builder 4 with Flex SDK 4.0 for Intel App Up

There is some misinformation on Intel AppUp and the Melrose FAQ about being able to publish with Flash Builder 4.
    Intel App Up Program Submission
    According to http://appdeveloper.intel.com/en-us/article/adobe-air-packaging-guide-atom-developer-progr am-submissions
"AIR app must be built using Flex Builder 3 with Flex SDK 3.5a.  Currently Flex Builder 4 with Flex SDK 4 is not supported."
    Melrose FAQ
    According to http://learn.adobe.com/wiki/display/melrose/Melrose+Developer+FAQ
"Q: Are there system requirements for enabling try and buy in AIR apps using Melrose?
A: You must have Adobe Flex Builder 3 or greater and Adobe AIR 1.5.3 or greater."
Is the Intel App Up statement correct?  If it is, could I get an explanation why?  I've been waiting for the last 3 months waiting for the Melrose SDK to deploy to Intel App Up and now I can't even submit my application.
    Thanks.

The current version of Melrose supports Flex 3.5 SDK for AIR applications running on AIR 1.5.3 runtime or higher. You can use Adobe Flex Builder 3 with Flex 3.5 SDK or Adobe Flash Builder 4 with Flex 3.5 SDK.
Support for Flex 4.1 SDK for AIR applications running on AIR 2.0 runtime should be available within a few weeks. Please note that we will not be able to support Flex 4.0 SDK because of certain technical challenges.

  • Build and test Flex 4 in Hudson?

    Hi
May I know how to build and test Flex 4 web application in the continuous integration server like Hudson?
I think tutorials have been describing of how to develop Flex 4 application using Flash Builder. Is it possible to build Flex application from command line (so that it can also be called from Hudson)?

I was able to convert a VI that contains a call to a library function (in this case, a DLL) into a DLL.  I have isolated my problem to passing a hardware handle through multiple layers of library calls...  My handle is a U32 that I am passing as a value at each layer.
I talk to my hardware via a DLL provided by my third party vendor.  I have some LV code and a call library function in a subVI.  When I convert my subVI to a DLL, my hardware does not respond as it should -- it behaves as if I have not opened a session with it even when I have already opened a session.
I remember reading somewhere that handles had to be initiated from the same process...  does anyone know the details of how this works?

  • Are Flash Builder 4 and Flex 4 the same ?

    Hi Everyone,

Yes, flash builder 4 was the name given to what is effectively flex 4.
    This answer is, essentially wrong.
Flex 4 is a Software Development Kit (SDK) that includes a compiler, a user interface framework, and a few other items.
Flash Builder 4 is an IDE that can be used to develop Flex applications.  Flash Builder 4 can also be used to code ActionScript w/o any dependencies to the Flex Framework.
Grizzzzzzzzzz wrote: 2. Are Flash Builder 4 and Flash CS4 the same ?
No, Creative suite 4 is a software library consisting of many different programs
This answer is much more correct; but for additional clarification:
Flash Builder 4 is an IDE that programmers can use to develop applications for the Flash Platform.
Flash Professional CS4 is an IDE that Designers can use to create time-line based animations for the Flash Platform.
One is geared for designers; and another for programmers.  In theory they can be used to reach the same end point although I wouldn't want to do application programming in Flash Professional; nor would I Want to do design stuff in Flash Builder.

  • How to Build and Deploy Flex application in EP6

    Hi All,
Can anyone tell how to build and deploy Flex application in EP6.
I want to build a normal application in flex and present it through iviews. How do I configure my Iiview to have flex component running in Portal Environment.
    Thanks

A good book to start with is Enterprise JavaBeans by Monson-Haefel (O'Reilly press). It covers deployment of EJBs on J2EE servers. Also check out sites specific to your server, sometimes they have specific requirements (like Weblogic).

  • Flash Builder 4b2 or Flex Builder 3

Starting a new project to rewrite a beefy Flex 1.5 application. Should I start with Flash Builder 4b2 or Flex Builder 3? Storyboards will be complete next week and I expect to reach end of job by February of 2010. Some customization of components will be required, but am hoping that current libraries are more rich than the 1.5 libraries (lots of customizations).
    Thanks for your thoughts/recommendations.
    Nick

The first thing you need to consider is your time frame, its a very close call as to whether or not you should avoid the risk of how stable FB4 will be by the time your project is supposed to be in the testing stage (by stable, i mean more as in are there still pending changes to the ide/sdk that could break your code in a major way). I think that by xmas it may be reasonable to say the ide/sdk won't be prone to many big changes(fingers crossed).
So within your time frame 4-5 month timeframe FB4 is starting to look like the right choice.
The Next thing to consider is which Flashplayer do you wish to target 9+ / 10+ . FB4 allows you to write your app using either the flex 3.4 sdk or the flex4.0 sdk.
The 3.4 SDK would be used if you are not ready to target flashplayer 10 and the plus side is that the 3.4 sdk won't be going through as heavy a change schedule as 4.0 sdk, the down side is you don't get to use all the new shiny bits of flex.
The 4.0 SDK is not yet fully stable and has issues that could see your code breaking once the fixes are applied, with 4.0 you need to target flashplayer 10 but unless you work with digital media agencies who tend to be on the rotting edge of technology this isn't a real problem. So all the possible issues with the 4.0 SDK are also the pluses, latest flashplayer support, lots of new shiny bits which slowly but surely will be more feature rich than the old SDK.
So if you are confident and are prepared to add abuffer into the project timeline to cope with possibility of code changes required to cope with SDK/IDE updates using Flex 4 is the right choice.
OK thats my 2 cents worth

  • Flash builder 4 and flex 3 sdk - co-existence?

Can I install Flash Builder 4 Premium on the same XP machine with Flex 3 SDK without conflicts?
    Thanks.

    Yes.
Perhaps you meant to ask about Flash Builder 4 and Flex Builder 3 co-existing?  If so, then yes, you can also have Flash Builder 4 and Flex Builder 3 on the same machine without any conflicts; although I would not recommend installing them in the same eclipse instance.
You can also have as many Flex SDKs installed on your machine at a time and have Flex Builder 3 or Flash Builder 4 setup to use all the SDKs.   Although, I don't thikn it is possible to use use more than one SDK as part of a single project.  it'd be impractical, if not impossible.
I think that covers all bases.

  • Design and save workflow diagrams using flex

    Hi,
I am new to flex..I need to design a workflow diagrams using flex and save the information..Could you please help me on this..
Actually what exactly i want is..
In my project we have some jobs..Job is bunch of scripts..These jobs will run in different hosts(Server). In my project we have a provision to run these jobs in order in different hosts. But not for running the scripts in perticular sequence.
    For example::
    We have a,b,c,d,e,f jobs..
    1) these jobs run in order if we select one check box. This provision is there.Order means after a runs b should run.after b is done c should run and so on..
    2) there is another senario like.
After a job runs b,c should run parallel and these 2 are done d shold run..after it is done e,f,g shold run paralell..some thing like this..This is a sequence of scripts running in different hosts..For this we nned to desing a UI like work flow diagram.
In UI we show all jobs in data grid and user will drag the jobs and keep it an area and he connects all the jobs with some lines with arrow(to identify). There he should conncects the jobs in which sequence he wants to run the jobs.
For this need to design a diagram and save the data in the UI.From UI we have to capture the sequence of jobs and store the sequence in db..
Colud you plz provide me soltion for this..I am getting how to draw a flow diagram using flex and capture the sequence from UI and store the data in DB..
Please help me out in this issue..
    Thanks in advance...

I am trying to create an image file with flex and want to save it only in  a perticular directory ie., user should not be given any option to choose the location.Air application uses resolvePath where we can specify the path but donno how this can be achieved for a web-based application.
Is there any workaround for this?
    Thanks.

  • What do I need to build & deploy a Flex/Coldfusion standalone app?

I have been a CF developer for almost 10 years, but have no experience with Flex. I have a new opportunity to create Windows-based standalone applications. I have investigated .NET and I am not impressed as it just seems to be needlessly complex and bloated. Instead, I am considering leveraging my CF experience and taking a serious look at Flex with ColdFusion.
My application needs to run on PCs that are located on boats at sea. Their only connection to the Internet is via a satellite modem. The standalone app. needs to have data entered, which is stored in a local database. When the skipper is ready, he/she will switch the modem on, transmit the saved data (takes about 10 seconds) and switch the modem off. This means that the application code, runtime environment, database, and services (e.g. ColdFusion cfcs) must all be loaded on the PC. Also, I do not want the application to run in a web browser (many boats have old versions of Windows and IE).
I understand that I should be able to do this by using the AIR runtime.
    Here are my questions/challenges:
1.) The application itself must be provided free of charge. Would I be required to purchase a ColdFusion licence for each installed copy of the application?
2.) If I would have to pay a licensing fee for each CF installation, will Flex 4 work with an open source CF engine such as Open BlueDragon or Ralio instead?
3.) Any suggestions regarding the database that I should use (e.g. Derby, H2, SQL Server Express)?
4.) Installation must be simple. Skippers must be able to download an installation file (e.g. an .exe) and run it. The install program must install the database, the latest Flash player for Windows, the CF engine, and the generated .swf files, cfc files, etc. Can all of this be bundled up when FlashBuilder and/or AIR prepares an application for deployment? When the application is run, it must start the database engine and the CF engine in addition to the Flash front-end.
I'm eagerly await your answers with fingers crossed. This project has the potential to create a very cool, unique application!

Hi Paul, thanks for the quick reply.
We have created the onboard app., but not in Flex. It is written in ColdFusion (version 8) with AJAX and uses an Apache Derby database and Open BlueDragon as the CF engine. The whole thing runs in a browser onboard. We had a custom Java launcher written. It starts the database and Open BlueDragon and then launches the PC's default browser with the localhost URL of the application home page. The biggest drawback with this whole approach has been browser compatibility. Some boats still use IE version 6. Our application simply won't work on versions IE prior to 7.0. It also takes quite a while for the launcher to start up all of the related applications, etc. The application runs more slowly than it would as a desktop application since web pages have to load as the user moves from one screen to another.
I am investigating whether we should re-write our application from scratch using Flex/AIR. My hope is that that we can put together all of the parts of the application in a single, standalone environment. Through some investigation, I have just realized that AIR includes SQLLite, so we won't need a separate database/launcher. We also won't need to use AJAX since the Flash will provide a UI that has all of the flexibility that we'll need. I also assume that the AIR runtime will include a standalone Windows Flash Player, so we don't need to use whatever web browser is on the boats.
So far, everything sounds great. My only remaining question is whether I could create the data access services as ColdFusion CFCs without having to install ColdFusion on the onboard PCs. I've been looking through the Adobe literature and it seems to imply that AIR can use ColdFusion 9 CFCs without CF being installed, but I cannot find a definitive statement on this. If this is the case, I will download CF 9, CF Builder, Flash Builder, and AIR and start learning and building right away.

  • Flash Builder 4.5 - Flex (source code automatically changed after existing project import)

    Hi all!
Til yesterday, i was using FB v4.0 and it was perfectly working.
But now I'm under 4.5 and i have problem when importing my existing projects.
Now let me introduce the matter:
The entire project solution is located on my Desktop.
So, to import this, i go in FB in File>Import Project
Then i select "Project Repository" option and "Browse" button, then select the project on Desktop...
So.... import complete and SEEM TO BE successful
Unfortunately, from the IDE, when i double click on each source files, the code inside is not the expected one.
In fact, it looks as an older version of my code.
    Then, i exit totally FB4.5...
... and open my source files with a simple text editor, i can see that the original code (before import) has been changed by FB4.5...
    So, why???
    for example, this original code:
    * This is a generated class and is not intended for modification.  To customize behavior
    * of this service wrapper you may modify the generated sub-class of this class - WS_rq_login.as.

    Well well,
I got some news about this problem....
Look like Flash Builder uses a ".FML" file to reference URL of all WebServices used in the project.
When replacements occurs, the updated values seem coming from this.
