Hi,
if you only followed the steps you quoted above, I'm more suprised by your suggestion that your nvidia is off on boot when you are on arch_i368.
'Default behaviour of bbswitch is to leave card power state unchanged', as is explained here:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Bu … g_bbswitch
Did you configure bbswitch according to the steps outlined there ?
ciao,

(sorry, misread the docs i realize now, and can't delete this post..:()
I use bumblebee and bbswitch and I did configure it in a bbswitch.conf as outlined in the link above, even when now I see it says that is not necessary when using bumblebee. Did you try that ?
thx,nourathar
but the bumblebee install will turn the Nvidia off,and I had read the wiki before and try myself to configure the bumblebee ,but it doesn't work.
I think ,are there some lib32* not install.
And sorry for my poor english.

• Xerox 7328 workstation printer not working in Arch x86_64

Hi
I've converted from Ubuntu to Arch.  My Xerox 7328 was working in ubuntu jaunty 9.04 perfectly with a special ppd file given to us by Xeorox.  In Arch, the printer just spews out blank paper.  I have tried downgrading cups to 1.3.9 as per what Jaunty used but the only difference is the printer does not spew out as MUCH blank paper!  I don't know where to troubleshoot on this - please could someone provide pointers as to how I can go about solving this?
Thanks

• Xerox_mfp scanner not working in arch (compilation bug?)

I have discovered that my xerox_mfp printer/scanner Xerox Workcentre 3119 is not working in archlinux. However, with the same libsane version, scanner is working in debian.
I checked the two libraries libsane-xerox_mfp.so.1.0.22: they are different in size.
I have copied the debian library in /usr/lib/sane and now the scanner is working.
Compilation bug?

• Internal Microphone not working on Arch (Dell Studio 1558)

Hello community,
I never managed to get the internal microphone of my Dell Studio 1558 to work with ArchLinux 64Bit. I know that the soundhip of Dell Notebooks is a bit tricky sometimes. I already tried several configurations in the alsamixer. Unfortunately there are not much possibilites. In this Screenshot you can see all mixers that are displayed in alsamixer. No matter what I do, the microphone will never work. Of course it would not work with pulseaudio, too.
I also tried several configurations in /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf
options snd-hda-intel model=6stack-dell
options snd-hda-intel model=3stack-dell
options snd-hda-intel model=dell
To make sure the mic is not borken and works on Linux I booted a 32Bit Xubuntu 11.04 Live system. The Microphone worked there and Alsamixer gave me many more mixers there.
I don't know what info to provide... At least here is cat /proc/asound/cards. I doubt it's helpful though.
cat /proc/asound/cards
0 [Intel ]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel
HDA Intel at 0xf0b00000 irq 43
Help is appreciated Thanks already.

A long time ago I had a problem with the microphone in my Dell Studio 1737. When I finally got it working, I wrote down how I did it. Now I wish I had been more of a chatterbox... Anyway, here's my note:
/etc/asound.state
control.11 {
value.0 true
value.1 true
Hope you can make heads or tails of it.

• VMware 5 not working with Arch udev

Okay I am having an issue running VMware 5 in Arch using udev. I can get VMware to install and run in window mode, but the moment I go full screen I get an error stating that it cannot open tty0. On this computer I have the devfs=nomount added to grub.
On another computer I did not add devfs=nomount so I am using devfs instead of udev .. it works perfectly .. also in full screen.
I looked in the /dev directory on the system using devfs and found that tty0 is a link pointing to vc/0 so I thought that if I go to the udev system and just ln -s /dev/vc/0 /dev/tty0 it would work. It ends up going horribly wrong!
I have turned OFF udev on my first system and verified that it works when I mount devfs. Since udev will eventually replace devfs I would like to get it working with udev. Anyone have a clue? The udev rules file is default btw from a new install if you are wondering.

johnr wrote:
do you have a customized .rules file in /etc/udev/udev.rules/ ? You should have a line like this:
KERNEL="tty[0-9]*", NAME="vc/%n", SYMLINK="%k"
I have VMware 5 working using udev, and it will work in Full Screen Mode. Hope that helps.
That is wierd. I looked at my udev.rules file and had this:
# tty devices
SUBSYSTEM="tty",        GROUP="tty"
KERNEL="tty[0-9]*",    NAME="vc/%n"
KERNEL="ttyS[0-9]*",   NAME="tts/%n", SYMLINK="ttyS%n"
KERNEL="ttyUSB[0-9]*", NAME="tts/USB%n"
All I did was add SYMLINK="tty%n" to the line and it worked fine. Funny thing is, this is the way it looks on all of my installed computers. Is it because I enabled testing?

• [SOLVED] Warcraft 3 (with Wine) does not work in Arch

Okay. I played a lot Warcraft III The Frozen Throne with Wine in Ubuntu. When I started to use Arch, of course I wanted to continue playing.
But, when I started the game for the first time it gets into main screen (with 800x600 resolution, it is default when you start the game for the first time, my xorg.conf supports it) but freezes after about 2 secs. And I have to kill X. But now it even does not start (it changes resolution from 1920x1200 to 800x600, but does not continue)! I'm using KDE4.1 - is this somehow related to nVidia driver bug (I'm using nVidia GeForce 8800 Ultra)?
Arch 64bit KDE4.1
Wine 1.1.3 (installed with this, but also tested this - same problem)
WC3 patched 1.22 - installed MS Visual C 2005 Runtimes in order to get it work (see http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.p … n&iId=3126 )
I'm running the game from NTFS partition.
Edit: Tested with emulated desktop. Problem remains.
Edit2: Solved problem with 32bit Arch. Works like a charm!

For some reason WarCraft III doesn't like those (Hardware acceleration in particular...) Set Hardware acceleration to Basic or Full and the game will launch...
It's set to "Full". And as I said, game launches but freezes after a few secs. But music continues even if a screen is frozen.

Hi, the problem is that Arch Linux uses the newer Ruby 1.9.x version which is incompatible with that script. I have tried to fix the script for you, it seems to work but I don't even know what delicious is so you'll have to just try it and see

• Wireless not working after arch install

Basically, I have an intel PRO/wireless 4965 AGN wireless card in my computer.  When booting Archlinux from live disk, I could set up my wireless network and connect with basically no problem.  After installation however, Arch will not connect to my wireless connection using the same connection procedure.  If I use very precise timing, I can get ping to ping google once, but then it loses the connection.  I tried the wired connection to see if I could at least install the rest of my system and deal with the wireless later, but the wired connection also fails to connect (I don't know if it ever was able to connect in the first place.  Network card is Realtek RTL8101E/RTL8102E).  I am installing from the 2011.08.19 core disk.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Start off with having a look at this wiki article. If you can't resolve the issue with the info found there, it'll at least give you an idea of which info to provide in order for us to help you troubleshoot this (with the current level of detail provided your guess is as good as mine).
As a general pointer, also consider disabling ipv6 if you have it enabled (and if you have no need for it).

• [SOLVED] Steam not working on arch

I'm on a (relatively) fresh install of arch. I've just spent all day today configuring my various applications. However, when I install steam through pacman and try to run it, it says
Setting up Steam content in /home/seth/.local/share/Steam
and then just hangs. If I ever get fed up of it hanging here and try to restart, it won't say that and instead I'll just get a blinking cursor. I also noticed my cpu gets hotter while this operation is running, but nothing seems to be happening.
I have a asus ux32vd. Optifine/primusrun works fine for any other application.
I have no idea where to look for errors.
UPDATE:
if I delete the section of /usr/bin/steam that disallows root to run steam, and then run it as root - it works.

it hangs
if I run

If I deactivate eth0 or disconnect them from the switch then I can successfully ping from/to both machines via public network eth1.
However, if I plug back eth0 then it looks like it messes up everything and this is what happens:
1- I can no longer ping from both machine1 to machine2. Ping hangs and strace shows:
sendmsg(3, {msg_name(16)={sa_family=AF_INET, sin_port=htons(0), sin_addr=inet_addr("138.1.17.252")}, msg_iov(1)=[{"\10\0\263\323\2547\0\3\262\236/F\0\0\0\0\3549\v\0\0\0\0"..., 64}], msg_controllen=0, msg_flags=0}, 0) = 64
recvmsg(3, 0x7fbfffe680, 0) = -1 EAGAIN (Resource temporarily unavailable)
2- I can ping from machine2 to machine1 but it shows the following output:

#48 20 21 1e 1f 20 21 1e 1f
Then I unplugged the public interfaces eth1 from the switch to test it only with the private network. I am unable to ping one another! Ping hangs and strace shows the following:
sendmsg(3, {msg_name(16)={sa_family=AF_INET, sin_port=htons(0), sin_addr=inet_addr("192.168.1.101")}, msg_iov(1)=[{"\10\0\354\356\256J\0\3~\0262F\0\0\0\0\353\223\2\0\0\0\0"..., 64}], msg_controllen=0, msg_flags=0}, 0) = 64
recvmsg(3, 0x7fbfffe500, 0) = -1 EAGAIN (Resource temporarily unavailable)
Does anyone have any idea of why this is happening?
Could this be a bug or incompatibily between RHEL4 and Linksys LNE100TX NIC?
Any comments are welcome.

Hi,
First please you disable all firewall and disabe SElinux.
Second When you want to ping some machine .You can try use 'ping -I eth0 192.168.1.101'
In fact ,don't recommand the two network adapter cards in the same machine connect the same switch.
