Bundling Action in MXP File

Hello, I've created a Configurator panel containing a series of Photoshop actions. The Configurator panel loads successfully from the .MXP panel provided the Action Set is manually loaded through Photoshop. Otherwise, the panel attempts to run an action that doesn't exist.
In the Extension Panel documentation it shows I should be able to bundle the action with the MXI package and have it automatically installed in the correct location when the user installs the Extension. Unfortunately, I'm having difficulty getting this to work correctly. I'd love to be able to have the user install the Extension and have both the Configurator panel and the corresponding action loaded after Photoshop restarts.
The Extension Manager Help file specifies that packaged files need to have the <file> tag in the extension installation file. Do I need to add that in Configurator or in Extension manager. If it needs to take place in Extension manager, where do I add it? How do I specify a location to install the action on the installer's computer?
Would someone be able to help resolve these issues? I feel like I'm 80% of the way there, but the last 20% is a bit fuzzy.
Thanks in advance for your assistance.
Best regards,
Jay

What is the problem, and how do I solve the problem.  Thank you. Jeff

First check the version of the document with Jongware's script "Identify.jsx" (ExtendScript/JavaScript).
    You can find it here:
    [Ann] Identify Your InDesign File
If it is CS 5.5 or above, you need someone to open it in the version the script says and export an IDML representation from that. Another way would be to install a 30days version of CS6 or above (CC) and do it yourself.
In regards of the script showing a result for InDesign files higher than CS6:
    CS7 = CC v9
    CS8 = CC v10 = CC-2014 or CC2014.1

  • How do i add a download action for dxf files. firefox assumes its a text file and just opens it with no download action dialog box

I want to add a download action for dxf files so they open in Autodesk trueview. The steps described here (http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Managing%20file%20types#w_adding-download-actions) say to click on a link for the filetype you want to add an action to but firefox thinks the dxf is a text file and just opens it in a new tab with no download action dialog box.

Use the right-click context menu and choose "Save Link As" or hold down the alt key and left-click the link.

For actions, you can use Automator to install them. There is an option in it's File menu for that.
Apps saved with Automator are self contained and can be used from anywhere, as long as that meets the conditions you imposed on actions in the workflow itself. For example, if you set an action to depend on a specific location, then it would likely matter.

  • Automator Action "Import Audio Files" error message

I use this automator action daily when it is activated via an alarm time in iCal. It is the 3rd workflow run in a series of 7 worlflows to create audio files while I'm at work (I record XM programming for use later on my iPod). Since I upgraded to OSX Lion yesterday, I'm getting a new error message I've never seen and I can't find any info on it. Can anyone help? The error message in a popup dialogue box is:
The action “Import Audio Files” encountered an error.
Check the actionʼs properties and try running the workflow again.
Under the Log for the workflow I get this message:
The operation couldn't be completed. (OSStatus error -1712.) (-1712)
The imported audio file does actually get inputted into iTunes and converted properly via iTunes, but the error creates two problems. One is the source file isn't deleted after the action runs (which is a checkbox option in that particular action). This isn't a big deal, because I can create another workflow seperately to delete the file, so I'm not as concerned with that. The major problem is that the error dialoge box displays and the sebsequent workflows that are scheduled to run right after this one can't run becasue Automator is occupied with the error message.
I'm looking for any advice I can find, I've been using this series of workflows for a long time without issue, but seems like everytime there is a new OS I have to go through the geriatrics of figuring out what slight changes apple made to the Automator actions.
    Thanks for reading,
    Chris

    Hi,
I just solved the problem pretty easily: earlier, on Snow Leopard, automator had to be set to work in 32bit instead of 64bit otherwise there has been a lot of error messages.
I tried to do the same with iTunes on Lion and, oh miracle, it works:
close iTunes then go to Applications -> right click on iTunes -> read informations -> check the box to run the app in 32bits and restart iTunes and .... that's it.
I work in a local radio in Belgium and I rely on automator on an everyday basis to download then add prerecorded broadcasts to iTunes to be aired with Lion server and I was stuck since a few weeks because of that problem. Now I can finally work again :-)
English is not my native language so please forgive me for my mistakes ... :-)

  • PS Action - Batch Selective File Types

    Hi,
My camera software dumps jpegs and raw files into a single folder.
I am wanting to batch (automate) process the jpegs in said folder, but not the camera's raw files.  How do I employ an action that will only run on the jpegs in the folder and skip the raw files?

Noel is correct.  The Picture Processor is a script like the Image Processor that provide you with options for saving Image File types with setting for the the format with optional resize with better naming abilities then an action can provide.
Automate Batch and the Image Processor scripts are similar in some respects. They can Process Open files or Files selected in the Bridge or all image files in a folder and even process image files in sub folders. The image processor has more output options the batch it can save more then one image file for each image processed run different actions for each file to be saved.  Scripts and Plug-ins have more abilities than actions for they can use logic and retrieve and pass information.
Paul's Processor is much the same however he provides you with a input file filter only image file that match the filter will be processed.
The image processing done by these scripts and plug-ins can be customized by the use of actions recorded by users. Actions which are easy to record for they need not be concerned saving and naming output files.

  • How do I read the images I bundled into the jar file?

I just wrote an applet that uses
         Toolkit tk = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit();
tk.getImage("blah.gif");to load a bunch of image files. The class file and gif images were bundled into a jar file to minimize the number of connections the browser has to make to the server.
The applet works fine in appletviewer but trips a java.security.AccessControlException: access denied (java.io.FilePermission select.gif read) when run in a browser. I know you normally use Applet.getImage(URL) to load images but wont that circumvent the JAR file and make a seperate connection to the server for each image? That would defeat the purpose of using a JAR file.
How do I access the image files I bundled into the JAR file?

From your Applet class, write the following:
    URL imgUrl = getClass().getResource("blah.gif");
Image img = getImage(imgUrl); The returned URL will be from the Applet class ClassLoader, which will look into the specified archive (jar) file.

  • How many files that JAR can bundle into a single file?

How many files that JAR can bundle into a single file?

The are no limitations inherent in the ZIP file format (jar files are basically just zip files).
    The only limitations I can think of are;
    available disk space
maximum file size (for some filesystems)

  • Any way to see dimensions of a texture from an MXP file?

    Hello all,
Running into a snag I hope someone can help me with. I'm using some textures that are in an MXP package for some recent designs. Now that the designs have reached the approval stage I need to send them off to the developer for slicing and coding of the actual site. The issue I'm having is that since the textures are part of an MXP extension, I need to get the exact dimensions to the pattern so I can tell the developer where to slice the background but can't find any way to get this information.
I know under normal circumstances you can go to your textures folder and just look at the dimensions in a file browser. Because this is an MXP file though the textures aren't installed into any directory (that I'm aware of or can find) and so I can't find a way to look at the texture file outside of Fireworks to determine dimensions. I even tried downloading a decent extension tool that might have hepled, but it only looks at textures in the texture directory, not unpacked MXP files.
Can anyone tell me how to get this information, or if there is a way to look into the MXP file and get the dimensions I need etc? I hate having to create an object and guess at getting the proper dimensions by trial and error all the time. One of these patterns in particular would be really hard to determine with that method because of how it's made. Any information would be greatly appreciated... maybe I'm just missing something obvious? The texture palette in native to Fireworks doesn't have any fnuctionality other than a crude list that I can tell. It's hard to believe that after all this time that software developed for use on the web wouldn't allow viewing of exact dimensions for a repeatable effect. I mean at some point it's a given it will have to be sliced for the web right?
Thanks in advance for any information!

Thanks for the additional insight. I'll try to dig deeper with a Google search and see if I have any luck. I got the initial idea to check the "users" path in Windows from a Google search but didn't see any other suggestions of where it would be located other than in that directory. I poked around all the other user directories but none of them contained Adobe paths in them. It's very difficult to find information about Fireworks textures (and often Fireowks in general) in a search though because you mostly get info about how to install textures or people posting their textures for download. I guess the large quantity of those "free packs" tends to push more informative posts down the search rankings? Also the lack of use as compared to Photoshop etc. seems to mean there is a lot less tutorial and help information in general available. Much of what is out there I have noticed is for very old versions. I'll look around some more and see if I can find any more path suggestions.
The patterns DO show up in the textures option under the standard color/stroke/texture panel and that is where I have been selecting them. I have a small library of 3rd party textures that I attach as an additional directory for textures and patterns, but haven't gotten around to that yet since I installed CS6 and because many of the textures I use more commonaly are in MXP style packages rather than loose files. I have also verified that the textures in question are not in the 3rd party folder. The fact they show up in the internal texture selector gives me hope that they can be found though. One concern I have is that they are being stored somewhere very difficult to find and the texture in question is being called something on the actual file name that is different from the name given in the Fireworks texture pallete. If I could find a valid folder I could visually identify it regardless of name, but finding that magic folder is the issue right now lol!
I wasn't sure how MXP packs worked, It kind of seems like this particular MXP is behaving like you explained styles to work. I admit to knowing very little about how MXP files are put together but I'm starting to wonder if there are options to establish whether you want your content accessible or not, you know for licensing protection etc. Many people are OK with letting others use their patterns, but do not want anyone editing or redistributing them. If the MXP format allows you to restrict access to those patterns it may be why I see so many of the textures starting to be presented this way, other than ease of installing for the average user. In fact most of the add-ons I've gotten for all Adobe software in the past year have almost all been through extension installs, be they free or paid materials.
In the meantime do you know of any add-ons that simply add some file information to the texture panel? All I need is for it show the dimensions along with the little preview that pops up when you mouse over a name. I'm amazed that they have never got around to doing this. It seems like it would be terribly simple to implement on Adobe's side and it would be extremely useful for most users I would think. I have seen many people in the comments of various forums etc. as I have searched for an answer that were asking for this kind of feature so there is definitely a need for it. I don't use these particular textures enough to bother the creator with special situations... I can find the dimensions manually with some trial and error by creating an object in Fireworks and playing around until I hit the sweet spot. I would just like to have a fast accessible option so that I don't have to keep a written log somewhere of all my extension installed textures and their dimensions, or have to stop and pick out the dimensions every time i use a new texture. It's not so bad when you're doing it all no your own, if it's off you can adjust on the fly as you code. In a development team environment it can cause some issues having to go back and forth with someone else until you get it just right. I know the coders here don't like to fool with "graphic issues" at all haha!
Once again thanks for the tips. If you (or anyone else) have any more ideas I would love to hear them. I'll poke around some more and If I manage to find a work around or solution I will post the result for the benefit of the community.

  • MXP File Extensions

Hey All, I've new to Flash and somewhat of a dimwit !!! I'm
trying to embed a simple slideshow into a movie and being rather
lazy thought it'd be a good idea to download a template. All the
files are mxp and I haven't a clue where to save these. I've
visited sites that explain about extension manager but I don't
think I have this. Thanks in advance, Nix.

    Hello Nix,
You dont need to put those file anywhere. You must have
extension manager installed along with your flash installation. You
just need to open the mxp file through extension manager (You will
get this from All program-->Macromedia->Macromedia extension
manager), extension manager will execute the mxp file and install
the compoenent from mxp file into your fla files library.
    Hope this helps.
    Regards,

I have a main fillable form.  From this main form the user may need additional forms.  I want to create checkboxes that link to these additional forms.  This part I believe I know how to do (Properties/Actions/Open a File).  What I want to add is a javascript to the checkbox that when the new file (or form) opens some of the data (the repetitive data like name, date, etc.) from the main form is placed into the form opened where the same form fields exist.  Is this possible?

Yes, but then it all has to be done using a script. You can't use the built-in Open A File command.

  • Automation plugin as action and via File/Automate

    Hi,
I have an Automation plugin that is scriptable (it has a number of exposed scriptable parameters and can be recorded and run from Actions palette). The plugin displayes the UI when it is called interactively (from File/Automate).
I am however having troubles distinguishing when it is called from an Action palette as a playback of recorded action and when it actually was called interactively from File/Automate (testing it in Photoshop CS6). On plugin invocation I check passed action descriptor and if not empty, read parameters from it and don't show the UI. On the call end, I write script parameters back to a descriptor to be able to use them in recorded action. With this in mind, after PS start first time selecting File/Automate works as expected - no descriptor/parameters passed into the plugin. But after a first call, Photoshop seems to keep the descriptor/parameters written at the end of the plugin and passes it on subsequent user invoked File/Automate. The same happens if plugin is getting called from a recorded action playback (and its expected). Basically after a first invocaction, the plugin will always receive action descriptor whether it called from an action playback or invoked by user.
I need to distinguish these two cases and basically present UI/start from scratch when user invokes it and use the passed action parameters when action plays it. I have not found anything in SDK to point me to the solution so I'd appreciate the help.
In filter plugins I can at least get selector start when invoked from UI and use that to free/ignore the action descriptor data.

I don't think you should care. The option you do care about is this one:
    PIDialogPlayOptions playInfo
That is part of  PIActionParameters *actionParameters
That is part of your PSActionsPlugInMessage that comes into your automation plugin entrypoint.
    This parameter has three options:
    a) always display the dialog,
    b) only display the dialog if you don't like the parameters you are given,
    c) never display a dialog (either return an error or proceed with best options but don't stop with a dialog)
From the file menu, user selected, you should get option a (always). From the actions panel you should get option a or b. From scripting you can get all three options.
There is also a property in PIProperties.h called propPlayInProgress but the above information should be what you need to do the correct thing with dialogs.

  • Action with new file with size from selection

    Hello,
I try to record an action that takes a copy of the current image and creates a new file with the same dimensions. The action I record always has the file size of the new image hardcoded in it. I tried to set Preset to Clipboard, but this is not recorded in the action. This is with CS3.
How can I create a new file that takes the current image size into account?
    Thanks for your help,
    Daniel

You can record the menu 'Image-Duplicate' to make a copy of the whole image without recording the size. If the doc only has one layer you can also record the flyout menu of the layer's panel to duplicate the layer to a new document. The size will not be recorded.

  • Illustrator CS6 Running an Action on Multiple files in a folder

I'm having trouble getting this to work and was hoping someone could shed some light for me.
I created a action in Illustrator CS6 (on a PC) which opens PNG files, scales them onto a 8.5 x 11 page, saves them as a PDF into a output folder on my desktop and then closes the page. The action works great and does exactly what I had hoped for.
    Here is my issue:
I now have a need to do this on multiple files at the same time. Using the Illustrator Help menu, I found out about Batch processing. The tutorial says that a batch can be run on a single file or on a folder of files. Bingo! That's what I want. Problem is, I can't get it to work.
After setting up the batch with the following settings: (note: I didn't use a destination folder because I have the action saving the pdf into an output folder on the desktop).
According to the help page, it said to use Override Action "Open" commands which Opens the files from the specified folder and ignores any Open commands recorded as part of the original action. I thought this is what I needed to open all the files in the folder, because when recording my action, I had to use the open command to open a png file. It wouldn't just let me choose a folder. If I don't have the open command in the action, nothing happens.
My main issue is getting multiple files from within my input folder to open when running the action. The only file that opens is the file that I recorded while creating the action. If I remove that file from the folder, nothing happens at all.
    Please help!
    Thank you,

I need to create a Action in Illustrator CS6 where i have to open set of files from the desired folder and convert the files to eps format. but i need to save as CS5 version instead of CS6.
I tried creating the Action it works perfectly except the CS6 to CS5 conversion.
Is there any way to achive converting to CS5 in Action?
    please help.

  • Automator - When using the Render PDF as Image action, the first file is out of order (naming).  How can I fix this?

I am creating an Automator Action to render PDF files as Images.  When the PDF is multiple pages, the first page has no numbers, so it ends up at the end of the list.  Here's an example:
When it is a single page, the result is:
    filename.png
When it is multiple pages, the result is:
    filename 141.png
    filename 142.png
    filename 143.png
    filename 144.png
    filename.png
First, it always seems to start at 141...not sure why.
Second, I did try to add an action to rename and make sequential, however the resulting list was in the same order... except with additional numbers at the end.
    Any suggestions?

    I see.
This worked when I tested on 1 PDF:
The Run Shell Script Action is:
    basename=${1##*/}
    echo ${basename%.*}
If it's still out of order, add: Sort Finder Items [by creation date] after Render PDF Pages as Images
