"burn speed to fast"

When I try to burn a playlist from iTunes 4.9 I get the error message "burn speed to fast for your CD burner or media". I've tried setting the speed to X2 and even X1 and it still won't work. I've tried it as an audio cd, mp3, and data cd. There were quite a few threads about this in the last few months, but none seemed to end in a solution. I have a superdrive in a year old eMac. I have also noticed intermittent problems with it not reading purchased CD's. Could it be something as simple as getting the lens cleaned?
Please Help!

Having the same problem myself. Just started today. I burned a few CDs on Sunday, no problem. Now every time I try to burn with media that has worked before I have two things happen:
1) Not matter what media or burn speed I've selected, I get the "burn speed is to fast for your media or burner, lower it in preferences" message.
2) After adjusting the burn speed in preferences, I then try burning again. iTunes will check the media for a couple minutes and then just spit the CD out without any error message.
I've rebuilt permissions and restarted, since those are my only steps to trouble-shoot OS X. It's still doing it.
I'm seeing SEVERAL threads with this same problem from a variety of users in both iTunes 4.8 and 4.9. The only update I've applied between the last time I was able to burn and now was the most recent security update (did that yesterday).
Anyone out there finding any leads?
I'm about to try Toast, but that'll be a pain because it's a specific playlist I wanted to burn that I compiled in iTunes.
Thanks in advance...

  • Can't burn disc via iTunes. Burn speed too fast. AGAIN!

"iTunes can't burn this CD because the burn speed is too fast for your CD burner or media. Choose a lower speed in the burning pane of iTunes Preferences then try burning again".
I have been having on going problems burning CD’s in iTunes for YEARS, and I know I am not the only one. I get the error message above. Having checked the forum at the time, and posted for help, I am know there is no real solution except to change brand of disc.
Thing is, now I can’t get ANY brands to work. I’ve been through Verbatim, Maxell, JVC, Sony, but none work. The only brand that would work were TDK audios which I can no longer find anywhere.
I know its not the burner, as Toast works fine, and I know I am not alone. Anyone got any ideas?
Even after years Apple seem to be blanking this question. It’s very frustrating not being able to burn my purchased itunes downloads to disc.

To anyone who is interested I think I may have found a possible solution. When you put a blank disc in the drive, wait about 30-60 seconds or so for it to stop spinning before burning.
This seems to work. It's a bit sticky but eventually works. I tried both TDK & Maxwell discs and 9 out of 11 worked. Absolutely no reason why the other 2 didn't, but it's a lot better than none.

  • CD burner error: Burn Speed Too Fast

Whenever I try to burn a CD on my eMac an error message says
"iTunes can't burn this CD because the burn speed is too fast for your CD burner or media. Choose a lower speed in the burning pane of iTunes Preferences then try burning again".
It even says that when the burning speed is on x1. It says that on every speed. So does anyone know how I can fix this problem and make it be able to burn CDs? Is it because I have nearly 10,000 songs on my iTunes, so that is somehow making it slow down?
The blank disc I'm using is "High Quality Pure Silver CD-R 80 Tevion"
It has 700 megabytes (80 minutes) on it, and I want to burn a CD that is 60 minutes, exactly. So, help? Thanks.

Let me see if I can help you understand your delima.
Just because you buy a very expensive Media Brand, doesn't mean it is any good. There is such a wide range of quality in CD's and DVD's it is really hard to select what is considered to be the best.
A very good guide to use for Media in general for both CD, and DVD's is below.
    http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm
Next there are a couple of KEY points to remember when burning, these will help you.
Never have any other Applications open when burning.
I tend to use either CD-R or DVD-R Media, the reason is these 2 formats are the most widely used and recognized in all Players, and Computers alike.
Always choose the slowest speed to get a high quality burn.
This next suggestion is probably the most important.
Not all CD-R's and DVD-R's are the same
    Read the packaging carefully
Many will explain that they will burn at all speeds from 1X upwards
This will help insure that your burner Software will choose the correct speed.

  • Why burn speed gets faster?

    Hello every one,
Here I have a common problem of stuttering DVDs with various players.. but
Bit rate set by me was too high so I am re-trying..
The questions is, since a few days ago, dvds get burned so quickly, even though I use
same dvds Verbatim x16. When I did the first, second and third try, I waited like 4 hours.
But now I wait (for the same project of 2.5 GB) about for 15 minutes. That, it seems to me,
has started to happen since when I used for one time SONY DVD-RW x1x2.
Firstly I don't understand how I can set the burning speed in DVD SP 3, which
seems important for not making stutturing DVDs. Secondly why does the speed
change automatically, when I touched nothing??
My dvds (with wrong Bit Rate setting) played very well
only with my Samsun 4-year-old DVD player, while
with other freshly-opened new players they didn't.
Could it be that new cheap ones work in a lousy way?
Both new ones showed also audio problems.
With one player the audio was histerically vivrating, with another one
some sounds such as river water sound and music get louder
while others such as human voices remain too low.
I have to admit that the sound was not Apacked, but i wonder if it depends on players.
I hope with new Bit rate and A packed sound, something gets better...
    Thank you
    minobu

Thanks for replys..! The mystery about the speed is solved..!
Also the stuttering problem is solved, as far as one DVD players that I tried yesterday,
    with a Bit Rate lower.
But the sound problems remain.. the audio still goes high and down.
Does anyone know the cause and remedy? same experience?
On this thread I posted my problem of Audio with 48.0007khz rate
in original clip. Could it be the cause? Even after rendering, could the difference
in audio rate cause such effect? If so.. as fixing up the original clips is
impossible, I would have to give up making dvds..

  • So many burning speeds . . .

    Am burning audio CD's.
    iTunes Preferences/ Burning/ Prefered speed; [shows: x1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, maximum possible]. Q: Why so many choices?
    Thanks in advance.

I'm no expert, but the gist of what I understand is the faster the burn speed, the faster the CD gets made. At 1X it will take quite awhile tp burn a CD-seems to me that at 1X if you have 45 min worth of music it will take 45 min to burn a CD ( someone correct me if I'm wrong) But I have no idea if quality will be the same for faster burns as in say VHS tapes. Anyone?

  • DVD Burn Speed - should I go Fast or Slow?

Please help! I am getting conflicting advice regarding the best speed to burn a DVD Video (in DVDSP, iDVD, Disk Utility etc) that will be used as a duplication master. I have read online that you should avoid slowing down the burn too much (I think because the disc dyes etc are 'optimised' for faster speeds) and that you will run into problems if you burn an 8x disc at 1 or 2x. However, a technician assures me that you should slow the burn right down and that professional duplicators and production houses never burn a DVD at its rated speed! Who is correct? Any help or links appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Burning too slow is often just as bad as burning too fast.
It's possible this may apply to the latest / newest DVD Burners on the market but not necessarily to the Burners that have been on the market for some time now like the Pioneer 103 for example. I own three separate burners, all Pionneer (103, 107, and 110U). The newest S-Drive I own is a Pioneer 110U in an ext. FW Enclosure. Originally my G4 733 came with a Pioneer 103. It still works but it now lives in an older G4 PM as a backup ... Still works great (at SLOWER BURN SPEEDS)!
But slower is better on this particular early model /S-Drive. And the same applies to the Pioneer 107. However, it does not apply to the latest Pioneer burners like the 110U, 111, nor the 112.
As pointed out in the above article you mentioned media can and often does contribute /influence the actual write speed that the drive will default to when burning a DVD. Very good article btw and thanx for bringing it to our attention.
Contrary to what is written in the above article though .... "slower is better" provided your burner is also an earlier model (and perhaps not so if you have the latest/ newer burner/s).

The general advice around here is burning at slow speeds to avoid playback problems. DVDSP will allways burn at max speed and that's one of the reasons for NOT using that burning workflow. I allways create a disc image of my project and burn it with Toast and/or Disk Utility, where you can select the burn speed.
After all, you can ask to your duplicator what they prefer.
    Hope that helps !

I understand your are having "Printer Offline" errors with your HP 4500 after you have installed onto your Mac Book Air over your wireless connection but the USB cable connection works without problem. If you could please provide me with the printers Model Number as the 4500 has several possible printers connected to that series name and your Operating System running on the Mac.

  • Itunes can't burn this cd because the burn speed is too fast for your cd...

For the first time since upgrading to 10.3.9 I'm trying to burn a data disc from iTunes to backup some files. It fails every time and ruins the blank CD. This is getting expensive!
The CDs are Phillips CD-R 52x. (Yes, I've used blanks from this very box before the 10.3.9 upgrade and it never failed before.) iTunes was set to 24x burn then changed to "maximum possible" for the burn speed.
Most times it looks like it's burning the playlist but around the 5th file it spits it out and gives the error "itunes can't burn this cd because the burn speed is too fast for your cd burner or media". Sometims it just locks up itunes with "checking media" and I have to force quit iTunes. Then the disc is ruined. It won't even show up in Finder.
Ugh. Anyone know how to fix this?

  • How do I know the correct burn speed?

My Pioneer/Apple DVD burner is recognized in the iTunes preferences, I have DVD-R media, but when I try to back up my iTunes, I get an error message saying that the burn speed is too fast for my media. I selected 1x speed in preferences, and I still get the error message. I've wasted 3 DVDs trying to backup iTunes. What am I doing wrong? The DVDs say up to 16X and so does the DVD burner. I'm using an iMac OS X 10.3.9.
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

I am using a PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-111D external, with USB 2, and was using Verbatim DVD+R 16X DVDs. I had tried Memorex earlier with Toast 6, and the burner would start to burn, then just stop. I have successfully burned photo DVDs with it using Toast 5 and the Verbatim DVDs. The DVD burner is supposed to burn up to 16X, as well. I have a large iTunes library, but wasn't given the option to select playlists before burning the DVD. Thanks, Linda74020

  • Burn speed

    Hi there,
I have a PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-106D superdrive on my iMac flat panel. Can someone tell me the recommended DVD I should use and what burning speed I should use?
I have iDVD 3 and I'm trying to burn an iMovie project with iDVD and it's not going very well!

Specs of the Pioneer DVR-106D fitted to the iMac G4 17" (taken from this article).
    • Write Speed
    CLV 1X and 2X at DVD-R
    CLV 1X, 2X and 4X at High-Speed DVD-R
    CLV 1X at DVD-RW
    CLV 1X and 2X at High-Speed DVD-RW
    CLV 2.4X at DVD+R
    CLV 2.4X and 4X at High-Speed DVD+R
    CLV 2.4X at DVD+RW
    CLV 4X, 8X, 12X and 16X at CD-R
    CLV 4X at CD-RW
    CLV 4X and 10X at High-Speed CD-RW
    •Maximum Read Speed
    CAV 12X at DVD-ROM (single)
    CAV 8X at DVD-ROM (dual)
    CAV 6X at DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW
    CAV 32X at CD-ROM, CD-R, CD-RW
On the Pioneer 106 personally I have found better luck with media with media rated at 1- 8x and 4x Max. This is getting more difficult to find though. I'm currently working through a spindle of Sony DVD-R 1-8x. If I have a problem with any media I've usually had success by switching down to 1x burning (in Toast etc) and this has had a 100% success rate. Trying to burn some faster media at 4x (the 106's max) has not always worked well.

  • DVD burn speed options?

I've been told conflicting things in regards to burning DVDs. I understand that the speed listed for the DVD is how FAST you can burn. What I'm looking to confirm is whether you can burn at slower speeds on a DVD regardless of how FAST it is listed as. For instance, can you burn at 1x speed with a DVD-R that is rated as 8x?

Other than timing the burn from the point it finishes the lead in to the point it starts the lead out, I'm not sure there is a way in Toast 6. Toast 8 shows the speed that the disc is currently burning at as it's going.
On Toast 6, if you check the burn speed pull-down menu after it's read the disc and indicated that there's a blank disc in the drive, do some of the burn speeds show in bold and others show in italics? The bold ones are the speeds that the disc officially supports - the italic ones are the speeds that Toast can "force".

  • DVD disc burn speed

Can a DVD-R disc be written faster than it's rated speed? If the disc says it's rated speed is 4X, can you burn it at 8X, etc? If you can, will the disc be readable later?
Also, does anyone have any reccomendations as to the most reliable media. I have been using TDK for about 3 years, but have been reading about Taiyo Yuden.

Generally, no. While there may be firmware hacks to make a drive burn a disc faster than the disc's rated speed, you're just asking for problems down the road, assuming that you even get a "successful" burn. If you need to burn at 8X, get 8X discs, or just wait a bit longer for the 4X discs to burn at their rated speed.
The media that's generally regarded as the top rated are Maxell, TDK, Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim. Verbatim appears to be well regarded with DVD+R DL discs, and they're one of the few brands of DL discs that you can find without having to order online.

  • Max burning speed for iMac drive?

    Should I burn at 8x or 16x?
    Alexa

    Hi
In iDVD up to version 6 You can't set burn speed.
    In iDVD08 and 09 - You can
If You use Roxio Toast™ - You can
Apple Disk Util tool - You can set here too
If You don't select iDVD sets speed acordingly to DVD disk eg x16
As faster - as many write errors
I use x1 when able to select
On older iDVD I use DVD x2 disks.
    I would
    • Use iDVD to do a DiskImage
    • Use Disk Util tool or Toast™ to make the burn at x1 speed
Using iDVD 4 - then You need a Hack to make it able to do the DiskImage
