Business case

HI SAP-XI Guru,
can you please discuss some business cases where we
need SAP-XI in real time project.
Thanks & Regards
Krishna

Hello,
For example you want to exchange data between SAP and Database
SAP and Non SAP
In general if you need to communicate between two hetergoneous systems it can be done through middleware (Which is EAI ) and PI is SAP product.

  • Typical business case scenarios for SharePoint 2013 Apps

What are the typical real time business case scenario for 1. SharePoint Hosted apps 2. Auto Hosted apps 3. provider hosted Apps? Why people choose any of this model apps model in comparison to typical On-Premise solution?
Another question comes is when should one go for On-Premise solution rather than Apps? What are real time scenarios?

Let's discuss first whether to develop apps or full trust solution.
Talking about technical aspect, On-Premise solution is popular choice for organizations who have SharePoint hosted on premise (not SharePoint Online). However, if you are using SharePoint Online, there's no choice except Apps (and possibly sandbox but deprecated).
So for SharePoint Online only viable solution is developing apps. However for on-premise you can develop full trust or apps. However since apps requires a bit more configuration and not yet full feature set as you can do with full trust, most people are still
developing full trust solution on premise.
Talking about business requirement at hand, you can develop apps (even in on-premise), if your requirement is really looks like an app. For example, you would like to develop a SharePoint solution, that will show data from SAP inside SharePoint. The solution
mostly nothing to do with SharePoint but calling SAP services to perform stuffs. So you can develop an apps and deploy inside SharePoint. Another example is import CSV files in SharePoint list, you can write an apps. But mostly I think you need to decide whether
to develop apps depends on the Apps API ability. The API is still very limited in features/functionalities. So even if your requirement looks like apps you can't develop apps if the current SharePoint Apps API doesn't support the functionality.
Now let's talk about which apps model you would like to use SharePoint Hosted apps means everything hosted inside SharePoint and no other external infrastructure is required. One example is the CSV file upload apps. However, with SharePoint hosted apps,
you can't use C# rather you just have javascript to develop the apps. There's rumours that auto hosted apps will be deprecated not sure but there's not more conceptual difference apart from where the apps is hosted (both hosted outside SharePoint). Provider/auto-hosted
apps will be running outside SharePoint (i.e., in IIS web site), and communicate to SharePoint through REST or client object model. One provider hosted apps in the office app market is adlib pdf conversion. The apps allows you to select multiple files and
covert them to pdf file. Basically the conversion site is hosted somewhere outside (in the provider's infrastructure). When you select all the files and click 'convert' from ribbon user is redirected to the provider site (different url) and the files are merged
and converted to pdf. Since it's outside of sharepoint, you can use any development language (C#, java, php etc.). The provider hosted app talks to sharepoint through REST or client object model.
So in summary, sharepoint hosted app has less complexity as it doesn't require another infrastructure and runs inside sharepoint. However you are limited to use only javascript to develop your apps. On the other hand with provider hosted apps, you can use
any development language but you need to consider extra level of security/complexity to integrate the app with sharepoint.

Thanks for this nice reply. Plz clarify if only Auto hosted apps will be deprecated or provider hosted apps also may be deprecated by MS?

  • OSB - Business Case for Adapters Vs Transport

    Hi
    1. Can you please explain me a business case on when one should use Db/JMS/FTP/File Adapter in OSB and when should one go in for equivalent transports for configuring Business/Proxy services? Would be great if you could point me to some documentation on which approach should be chosen over the other/any benefits that a particular approach has etc..
    2. Also is there some Oracle Documentation available on comparision between OSB and BPEL? When should a particular product be chosen? I tried searching for an example with a business scenario which provides details on when to use OSB and when to use BPEL but havent been able to get much info.
    Thanks!

For DB, you have to use DB adapter in OSB beacuse there is no seprate transport defined for DB. For FILE, you have both options - FILE transport and FILE adapter (in OSB 11g). FILE transport should be the preferred option (never seen documented anywhere) as it has been designed as part of the product and hence should be faster (although never comapred). For JMS and FTP, you have to use respective transports defined in OSB because OSB does not support JCA adapters for FTP/JMS (you may refer - 25.2.1 Adapter Support
    at http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14571_01/doc.1111/e15866/jca.htm#BABBICIA)
    2. Also is there some Oracle Documentation available on comparision between OSB and BPEL? When should a particular product be chosen? I tried searching for an example with a business scenario which provides details on when to use OSB and when to use BPEL but havent been able to get much info.OSB is a dedicated routing product and must be used for scenarios where only routing is required along with light transformations. Being a stateless product OSB can bear heavy load as well as gives better performance. BPEL can do what OSB does (to a certain extent) but being a statefull product it is much slower than OSB and should be used only for scenarios where process orchestration/human workflow intervention is required.
OSB being a service bus, can mediate among almost each and every kind of protocols but BPEL would need adapters for such mediation.

  • Business Case - help

    Hello,
We have a client who wants to use PO for Hotel reservation, where the PO booking a number of nights full inclusive.
Now when the invoice comes it will include the Food, beverage...etc. which is not predictable ahead at the PO preparation time.
How such business case can be satisfied in Oracle Purchasing? What happens to Matching? (4-way matching).
    Regards,
    Firas Al Tamimi

    Hi
Check this note at the time of PO make the entries of food ,beverage with some notional rate by making them as inventory items and at the time of matching make price correction on the ap invoices
    see the following note:-
How To Correct Unit Price In Received Po
    Doc ID: Note:266335.1 Type: PROBLEM
Last Revision Date: 06-OCT-2004 Status: PUBLISHED
The information in this article applies to:
    Oracle Purchasing - Version: 11.5.8
This problem can occur on any platform.
    Symptoms
You received against a purchase order with serialized items and the
purchase order unit price is wrong. You want to know how to correct the
purchase order unit price after it has been received.
    Cause
Fully received against a PO and has noticed an incorrect price on
one of the line items on the PO
    Fix
To implement the solution, please execute the following steps. There are several suggestions
within the functionality of the application that can be used to correct the PO line price:
    1. Simple price correction can be made in AP while invoicing against the PO. Select
Price Correction while in the Invoicing form when matching to the PO.
Accounts Payables listed the process to create the Price Correction as:
    1) Create an Debit memo or Credit Memo Invoice for the
appropriate Supplier for debit amount to reduce the previous
    matched quantity
    2) Click the [Match] Button.
    3) In the Invoice Match Find window enter the Invoice
number (standard) and/or the Po number in the appropriate
fields and click the [Find] button.
Both can be used because it is possible that only one or
    the other number is available.
    4) In the Match to Invoice window
    a) check the far left box that has no heading.
    b) Enter the debit amount in the Credit Amount field
    c) Click the [Distribute] Button
    5) In the Match to Invoice Distribution window
    a) check the far left box that has no heading.
    b) check the Price Correction check box (Note that Credit
    Quantity is grayed out)
    c) Enter the debit amount in the Credit Amount.
    d) Click the Final match box if required.
    e) Click OK.
    6) Back in the Match to Invoice window, click the [Match] button.
This issue is typically handled in AP with a price correction made when invoicing.
This is the recommended functionality and is what most customers do to handle price corrections
or variances between the PO and invoices.
    OR
    2. Make a receiving correction of the receiving quantity and correct the receipts to 0 quantity. The problem is that these are serialized items and this particular solution may become awkward in handling the serialized items, but it is supposed to handle the serialized items. When
the correction is complete, Correct the price on the PO and re-receive it.

  • Business Case for OCM

I am interested to see if anyone has any content they are able to share around the business case for OCM presented in a manner that has managers understand what the OCM game is about and why it is important to fund it and support it.

Our firm has incorporated OCM in our SAP/BPC delivery methodology and it has met with a very warm acceptance by our clients.  Our OCM material has been maturing for over a decade, but is customized for each client, and clearly is a competitive advantage for us.  So we are more than a bit hesitant to publish it to an open forum.  I've been involved with OCM related work since 1991 and agree with many of the commentaries above regarding the 'critical' deal-breaking nature of well managed OC.  I have a goofy mantra I use to describe this reality... "you can lead a horse to water, but you can't necessarily make him do the backstroke."
I have been saying for a long time that IT systems work is the technological equivalent of human organ transplant surgery.  I use this analogy with our clients and it seems to help everyone get it intellectually.  Just think of the key issue surrounding organ transplants and how that can be applied to our work.  Compatibility of tissue, rejection, anti-rejection medication, severing of vital connections and reconnecting them (nerves, muscles, vessels, etc.).  All the preparation that goes into it it (technically and emotionally).
Isnt' it interesting that when we introduce a new system that "replaces" an old one, the company, just like the human body, sends out corporate white blood cells to kill the foreign object even though its very life depends upon the survival of that object?  So what do we do?  We administer anti-rejection medication IN ADVANCE of the operation and after to ensure that NATURAL reaction does not happen.  We have to take equivalent measures when we introduce new systems.  The OCM issue then is to define what equals anti-rejection medication in a corporate envivronment.  Our OCM discipline defines that and engages the organization in creating it and administering it to itself so it can optimize its success.
As for getting it in terms of the bottom line, y'all are right--that is a little tough for most of us to document, but you'd have to have been hiding under a rock and not read any relevant magazine, blog, or whitepaper for the past 15+ year to be so ignorant of this histoical fact.  The IT landscape is littered with the dead or battered bodies of leaders and followers who have launched their ships unprepared to deal with this monster.
Our OCM kick-off Workshop seems to create in the minds of our clients a clear and undeniable gap between what they'd get if they don't take care of these matters.
Sorry to go so long on this, but it's one of my favorite topics as you can tell.  Hope this is useful in some small way.

  • Should SAP seek out "negative" business cases from knowledgeable SCN'ers

A few years ago, I had the privilege of contributing a "positive" SAP business case to Mark Yolton's dossier (it had to do with the help that SCN'ers gave me during two real development crises caused by my client's HQ getting nosy in a way that the client didn't expect.)
My question now is the following.
By fortunate or unfortunate coincidence, I currently have a ringside seat to an amazing drama in which an upstart "agile nimble" product is beating the pants off a less-than-agile/less-than-nimble product that SAP recently acquired.  This drama is unfolding at a major US organization, and involves the organization site-licensing the "agile nimble" product for units of the organization to develop stuff on their own that they would literally have to wait months or years to get if they asked the organization's IT team to try and create the same stuff with the "dinosaur" product.  (Plus, believe it or not, SAP's dinosaur is actually lacking many features that come "standard" with the new upstart product.)
This situation is not pleasant to watch ... I am not only professionally committed to SAP, but think very highly of the company (with some relatively minor differences of opinion), and I hate to see the SAP product trounced at this organization because SAP apparently can't see the writing on the wall (or which way the wind is blowing, if you prefer a '60's metaphor from the last century.)
So - I am sure that I'm not the only SCN'er who's in this situation - i.e. not the only SCN'er who has the opportunity to be a first-hand witness to a business case that isn't working out well for SAP.
And if this is the case, shouldn't SAP be seeking out SCN'ers who can provide first-hand accounts of why and how an SAP product is doing poorly rather than well?  (Think here of the model of the Weather Channel, with its network of committed viewers who send in bulletins, photos, etc, in severe weather emergency situations.)
Or should SAP emulate the ostrich (i.e., stick its head in the sand) and choose not to obtain "early warning signals" from SCN "eyewitnesses"?
Is that question "loaded" enough for everyone?  I hope so, because SCN'ers could provide a valuable source of free valuable information that SAP would have to pay marketing consulting firms some pretty hefty fees to otherwise obtain.

    Stephen - you wrote:
The only problems I can think is how does a company know that the person reporting it, is not a competitor trying to throw you off course or some other person with less than pure intentions than reporting what they have seen.
And it's funny that you see the problem in that direction, but not the problem in the other direction, i.e. the problem with relying on info directly from clients.
Here's just one of many reasons why SAP can't really rely on info directly from clients.
Assume some outfit has been using a certain SAP product for many years, and furthermore, that the champions of this SAP product within the outfit are all relatives of Dilbert's famous character Mordor ("Preventor of Information Technology)".
Assume also that one important reason these Mordors like  the SAP product is because they know it will help them keep their own locked-down centralized control of IT (relative to both data access and new development).
Finally, assume also that there are champions of some new upstart "nimble/agile" competitor to SAP's product within the same outfit. i.e. a group of folks who have actually used the new upstart product to jumpstart IT development that the Mordors would either never do, or take years to do.
Who do you think SAP is going to be able to talk to if it approaches this outfit for feed-back?
Do you really think the Mordors will ever let SAP near the champions of the new upstart product?
If you do, I've got the proverbial ocean-front property in AZ and the Brooklyn Bridge to sell you.
What SAP should be doing in this case is licensing the nimble upstart as a reseller and figuring out how to feed this upstart from the SAP "centralizing" product, i.e. let each product do what it does best.
But SAP will never ever learn that this is what it should do if it listens to the "client" in this case.
Because all it will hear is the chant of the Mordors.
    Best
    djh
PS - and remember also the classic Cold War scenario, where the Soviet military had much in common with the US military in the sense that they both wanted to maximize their shares of the overall national budgets.  In the same sense, there are probably plenty of Mordors inside SAP who are only too happy that SAP will only hear from the Mordors at the client in the above case.  The internal SAP Mordors don't want to have to rethink their Weltanschauung, do they ?

  • Need business case to move to 4.1

    Hi all,
We are currently using APEX 3.2, and would like to upgrade. I haven't had much time to look into the features of APEX 4, and now I have been told that I need to put together a business case for upgrading by next week. While some of the new features look great, I have to put this to business users rather than technical people. Can anyone point me to improvements that look good from a business standpoint and any info on the upgrade process?
    Thanks for any advice!

  • Master Data Governance - The Business Case

Hi, I'm trying to help out with getting a business case for improved Master Data Governance over the line ;  It's fairly easy to work out the ITs costs of fixing Master Data related tickets ; it's not so easy to determine the overall opportunity cost to the business of poor MD Governance ; should I take a sampling approach ? How would you go about it ? Thanks in advance John.

    Hello,
Not sure what sampling approach is, but it certainly help build a business case if you can provide sample data and case studies.
You may refer the SAP Provided PDF and presentations, to build your Business Case.

  • What's the business case for using adobe forms for handling print forms

    Hi
We are just starting our SAP project and are looking at the possibility to use Adobe forms for generating and printing our forms, like purchase orders, invoices etc.
    My Question is:
    1. Is this possible / adviseable ?
    2. if so - what's the business case in using Adobe forms  - <i> We have been looking on the SAP Pricing for adobe interactive form, and in our point of view it's grotesque high</i>
    3. What other options do we have - do we need to settle with SAP Script / Smartforms ?
    Regards
    Morten Nielsen

    Hi Morten,
    1. Is this possible / adviseable ?
As far I know SAP is going to stop support for SAPScript in coming years (I don't know exact dates). It is pretty much advisable to use Adobe Print Forms.
    2. if so - what's the business case in using Adobe forms - We have been looking on the
SAP Pricing for adobe interactive form, and in our point of view it's grotesque high
We can use Adobe Print Forms where ever we can able to use SApscripts/PDF print Forms.
    3. What other options do we have - do we need to settle with SAP Script / Smartforms ?
It is better to settle with Adobe forms rather than using SAPscript/Smart forms. One of the main reason for this is maintainance is much easier than SAPscript/Smart forms.
But remember that Java Stack need to be installed in order to use Adobe Forms.
Please visit the below SDN area on Adobe forms for more details.

    KAV

    Hi krutarth,
ABAP API (Application programming interface) are interface programming written in R/3 system to manage MDM activies through R/3. or
The MDM ABAP API empowers ABAP-based applications to control MDM Servers using most of the functions available in the MDM Console and MDM Data Manager
    applications.
    1) It enables an R/3 system to access the administrative
    functionalities of the MDM Server.
    For E.g.
    Create repository,
    Connect to repository,
    Load repository,
    Create role,
    Create user
    Retrieve roles,
    Retrieve users
    Create client system
    Retrieve client systems
    Retrieve tables
    -Retrieve table fields
    Activate trace
2)It also enables R/3 system to access the data processing**
*functions of the MDM Server.*For e.g.
    Create a transformation
    Retrieve a transformation
    Create rules
    Retrieve rules
    Create a strategy
    Retrieve a strategy
    Invoke matching
    Invoke a matching value check
    Retrieve a matching result
    and many more.
