Business - Data Model

Hello All,
I have to prepare a Data flow in SAP BI for one of the Insurance system application.
There are 4 flat files coming from the source. Each flat file has records on insurances details like policies and so on.
Each flat file represents a line of business. Now the data model is newly being made. There will also be historic data for last three years for reporting and current year data is loaded in monthly basis.
Also the error records will go in different target for reporting for each line of business.
Please suggest a data flow which which would be made in best.

Hello, experts,
as far as i know, one subject area would mapping to one presentation catalog, similarly, my question is what is the relationship between presentation catalogs and business models? Is it should be designed by 1:1 mapping or n:1 mapping? any general design methodologies under this? thank you all.
Rgds,
KaymoUsually, we have various subject areas on the p layer each associated with certain functional module of the business, but this is not a rule... SA's can be even designed for other purposes data level security etc...... to keep it simple... have a SA for every star in the physical layer

  • How to use an existing data model using Business Components in OEPE

I am a beginner in ADF. I am working on a project with an existing data model that uses Business Components (EO, VO and AM). I know that OEPE does not handle the creation of BC, so if I want to modify them, I will have to do that in JDev. That's fine.
OEPE can create pages with drag and drop like in JDev. In my eclipse ADF projects, I would like to use the existing BC, to be able to use the bindings with ADF Faces. So far I have nothing in the Data Controls tab.
How to import the BC into the Data Controls tab?
    JDev 11.1.1.6
    WLS 10.3.6
    Eclipse Kepler

We currently don't support DataControls based on the ADF BC technology. We will consider such support if there is a strong interest in that use case.
Independent of the IDE's you use, there are ways to expose services based on ADF BC that can then be consumed by the view layer. A Google search will point you to some of the approaches.

  • Building data model using business modeler in demantra

    Hello.
During this week I've been trying to build a data model using the business modeler but i keep getting an error during the process. My main problem is that I don't really know if i am making the mistake or it is a configuration problem with my demantra install. To begin with I'm trying to build the most simple of the models, 3 files or tables (tryed both) sales, items, and location, all joined by their respectives id's. So If anyone could be so kind to direct me to a tutorial with an example (besides the implementation guide) or a anything like that will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!
    Data tables estructure:
    Sales table:
    Item_Id|Item_Name|Org_Id|Org_Name|Site_Id|Site_name|sales_date|Quantity
    Items table:
    Item_Id|Item_Name
    Location table:
    Org_Id|Org_Name|Site_Id|Site_name
So far I've tryed building the model with one record on each table.
this is the error that i'm getting:

  • Business object architecture data model

    HI All,
Can anyone give the architectural data model for business object ?
i got few but my data base is sap BI and i need to design a document to show the data model
so anybody having such document or any link for that so please share.
    thanks in advance.
    regards,
    DJ.

    Hi DJ,
Best Practice says that if you have SAP BI in Back end and SAP BOBJ on front End then follow below mentioned path.
Create your SAP Query on the top of your InfoCube or ODS etc
Use calculated Key Figures and Restricted Key Figures in your Query.
Use most of the objects under Free Characteristics area for better performance and results
Create your Universe on the top of SAP Query. (we can create universe on the top of Cube and ODS but then we cannot use variable and performance also gets hit)
You can also create further variable / Filters at Universe level instead of WebI to improve performance
Create WebI report or Crystal Report etc (You can also create variables / Filters here).
Page 38 of following link gives a diagram for better understanding.

  • APEX application development with an existing data model

    Dear all,
We - as a company - are trying to build an application in ApEx with an existing data model. The idea is that the data model that has all sorts of TAPIs and business rules defined is going to be re-used in an ApEx environment. I am actually wondering whether this is possible, wise, feasible. When I am building some simple pages on one specific table, which has approx. 35 fields, sometimes the triggers around that table fail. Before I am actually going to dive in to try and sort these problems I am wondering whether this use of a data model in an ApEx environment is wise.
I mean, when you build an ApEx application there are usually no triggers and TAPIs available. My logic is that the ApEx application can look after validation and stuff.
Does anybody experienced have anything smart and useful to say about this. Any feedback is appreciated.
    Kind regards,
    -victorbax
    -leiderdorp, the netherlands

    Hey vik,
At my company we rarely use the standard APEX wizards because of multi-linguility (on data level) and error management issues.
We always create an API in PL/SQL and call the procedures for APEX making APEX the 'view' layer in a kind of model-view-controller architecture.
The main thing to keep in mind is maintainability, if you're working with an existing datamodel with an API that works it's probably best to just created forms and reports through APEX and then calling the appropriate pl/sql (packaged) procedure manually. We believe that this kind of architecture has the downside of being a little more work initially but it's much easier to maintain large projects through a self written API and take care of issues like error handling, logging and multi-linguility through a self written API.

  • Xcode, how do you take an app from an idea to a data model, data structure, or class structure?

    Hey everyone!
I'm a beginner xcoder and computer engineering sophomore and have literally spent every hour of the past few weeks reading as much as I possibly can about becoming a developer.
I've found plenty of documentation, and guides on how to do very specific things in xcode and objective-C but am still looking for more information on one topic; how do you decide which data models/structures/controllers etc to use?
I mean, you personally. I've been looking for a resource on this and have not been able to find one. I just finished Apple's iOS Developers Guide and they mention "choosing a data model" but do not describe them in much detail.
The following is what is provided in the guide:
    ● Choose a basic approach for your data model:
    ● Existing data model code—If you already have data model code written in a C-based language, you
can integrate that code directly into your iOS apps. Because iOS apps are written in Objective-C, they
work just fine with code written in other C-based languages. Of course, there is also benefit to writing
an Objective-C wrapper for any non Objective-C code.
    ● Custom objects data model—A custom object typically combines some simple data (strings, numbers,
dates, URLs, and so on) with the business logic needed to manage that data and ensure its consistency.
Custom objects can store a combination of scalar values and pointers to other objects. For example,
the Foundation framework defines classes for many simple data types and for storing collections of
other objects. These classes make it much easier to define your own custom objects.
    ● Structured data model—If your data is highly structured—that is, it lends itself to storage in a
database—use Core Data (or SQLite) to store the data. Core Data provides a simple object-oriented
model for managing your structured data. It also provides built-in support for some advanced features
like undo and iCloud. (SQLite files cannot be used in conjunction with iCloud.)
    ● Decide whether you need support for documents:
The job of a document is to manage your app’s in-memory data model objects and coordinate the storage
of that data in a corresponding file (or set of files) on disk. Documents normally connote files that the user
created but apps can use documents to manage non user facing files too. One big advantage of using
documents is that the UIDocument class makes interacting with iCloud and the local file system much
simpler. For apps that use Core Data to store their content, the UIManagedDocument class provides similar
    support.
I suppose my question boils down to, how do you decide which structures to use? If you can provide an example of an app idea and how its implemented that would be very helpful and much appreciated!
For example, to implement the idea of an app which allows users to progress through levels of knowledge of a certain subject and rewarding them with badges and such (this is not an actual app just a whim) how would one model that?
Thanks in advance for all your help!!!

    SgtChevelle wrote:
how do you decide which structures to use?
    Trial and error.
I wish I had a better answer for you, but that pretty much encapsulates it. There is some, but not much, good wisdom out there, but it takes a significant amount of experience to be able to recognize it. The software development community if currently afflicted with a case of copy-and-paste-itis. And the prognosis is poor.
The solution is to be brutal to yourself and others. Focus on what you need and ignore everything else. Remember that other people have their own needs and methods and they might not be applicable to you. Apple, for example, can hire thousands of programmers, set them to coding for six months, pick the best results, and have the end-users spend their own time and monety to test it. If you don't have Apple's resources and power, think twice about adopting Apple's approach. And I am talking from a macro to a micro perspective. Apple's sample and boilerplate code is just junk. Don't assume you can't do better. You can.
Unfortunately, all this takes time and practice. You can read popular books, but never assume that anyone knows more than you do. Maybe they do and maybe they don't. It takes time to figure that out. Just do your best, ignore the naysayers, and doubt other people even more than you doubt yourself.

  • How to rename a View Link in a data model?

In JDeveloper 9.0.3, I create a simple BC4J project with a master and a detail. The business components are properly created.
When I try to design the data model for the module, I am able to link the view for the master and the view for the detail, there is no problem to rename the view objects that I select in my data model, but I found no way to rename the view links used between the view objects.
I always get an automatically generated name, like "FkForeignDetailLink1". This is what I see in the data model, and also in the structure of the module, in the "View Link Members" section.
I am able to modify the properties of this view link, but not its name. Am I missing something?
    TIA

to clarify... In the AM wizard, you are trying to rename the instances of view objects and view links?
If so, you are right, there is no way to rename view links on that panel. We are working on a better way to do that for the next release. The only way I know of to rename the view links is to shut jdev down and edit the XML for the application modele. This can be dangerous if you get it wrong, so make a backup before attempting this. The hint with renaming things OUTSIDE JDeveloper, I already know, but I don't like much.
As for the AM wizard, I just noticed that I cannot do it inside. But that's no problem for me, as lots of details cannot be done inside the wizard, but there is a way to customize them afterwards. My real problem is that didn't find ANY way of doing it.
A question for you if I may. Why are you renaming the view link instances? I though most users would use the detail view instance directly. The detail view instance would in turn look up the appropriate view link into, what ever its name was. The only place where I saw the bad view link names displayed in JDev was the Structure pane of the AM, under View Link Members. But there is no way to modify them there. As for the detail view instance, I didn't find a place to get to the view link at design time (in 9.0.3.988).
Could you be more precise, please?
    Thanks again,
    Adrian

  • Business Data List View ONLY Displays records - Cannot Edit them

Using SharePoint 2010, I created an External Content Type. Data is coming from SQL Server. I created a new Read operation on my External Content type. I added a few filters in this Read View.
I have created a web part page in which I placed a Business Data List Web Part. In Web Part properties I chose the VIEW in question. I can now filter my External List data and the Business Data List Web Part displays them. But I cannot edit these
    records!!!
From the web Part properties window, I can ONLY choose Views that are created from READ operations. How do I allow users to edit data and save data in the original source (SQL Server).

    Hi,
the problem seems to be caused by an invalid query
selectobject (product) from Products product where product.PROD_ID = :prodId
    Should be
select object (product) from Products product where product.PROD_ID = :prodId
Please check the query you created in TopLink

  • Beginners guide to PowerPivot data models

    Hi,
I've been using PowerPivot for a little while now but have finally given into the fact that my lack of knowledge about data modelling is causing me all kinds of problems.
I'm looking for recommendations on where I should start learning about data modelling for Powerpivot (and other software e.g. Tablea, Chartio etc). By data modelling I mean how I should best organise all the data that I want to analyse which is coming fomr
multiple sources. In my case my primary sources right now are:
    Our main MySQL database
    Google Analytics Data
    Google Adwords data
    MailChimp data
    Various excels
I have bought two books - "Dax Formulas for PowerPivot" which is great but sparse on data modelling information and "Microsoft Excel 2013 - Building Data Models with PowerPivot" which looks excellent but starts of at I believe too advanced
    a level.
Where should a beginner with no experience of data modelling, but intermediate/advanced experience of Excel go to learn skills for PowerPivot Data modelling?
By far the main issues is that our MySQL databases are expansive and include hundreds of tables across multiple databases and we need to be able to utilise data from all of them. I imagine that I somehow need to come up with a intermediary layer between
the Databases and Powerpivot which extracts and flattens the main data into fewer more important tables, but would have no idea how to do this.
Also to be clear, I am not looking at ways of modelling the MySQL database itself - our developers are happy with the database relationships etc, it just the modelling of that data within PowerPivot and how to best import that data.
Recommendations would be absolutely brilliant, its a fantastic product but right now I'm struggling to make the most of it.

Thanks for the recommendations, I am aware of the last two of those and
http://www.powerpivotpro.com/ in particular has proved very useful (TechNet less so).
I will take a look at SQLBI in more detail but from a very casual browse it seems like this too is targeted more at experienced users. There paid courses may definitely prove useful though.
I think what I'm getting at is that there are probably an increasing number of people like myself who have fallen into PowerPivot without a traditional background in databases and data modelling. In my case I have a small business of
15 employees and we were using Excel and PivotTables to do some basic analysis before soon discovering that our data was too complicated and that I needed something. PowerPivot definitely seems to solve that issue and I'm having much
better success now than I was without. I also feel quite competent with DAX and actually building tables from the PowerPivot data model.
What I'm lacking in is the very first step of cleaning and preparing raw data for import and then importing it into Powerpivot and setting up a efficient model. I have to be honest that your links above did bring
PowerQuery to my attention and it seems like a brilliant tool and one of the missing links. I would however still like to see a beginners guide to data import and model set-up as I don't think I've yet come across one either in book or
online form which explains the fundamentals well.

  • What are the steps  needs to be perform to define a data model

What are the steps  needs to be perform to define a data model
    a.     Information Gathering
    b.     Hardware & Software
    c.     Structure the Information – MDM
    d.     Transfer into a Physical Model – BW data model
    e.     Explore use of existing model – Business Content

    Hi Siva,
Very first activity is Proof of concept (POC), here we have to show How BW works for clients Reporting requirement during POC we as BW consultants need to creat some sample BW back end objects and also some reports based on business requirement. This is very crucial stage as Client Judge wethere BW would meet his demands. If every thing is fine then next step is Bidding.
After Bidding the contract then actual Project intiates. from here we follow ASAP methodology.
    <u><b>
    Project Preparation</b></u>
Here Senior Consultant would go to Client place for Business Process Transistion and to know in what way the Architectue should be set up so here Basis People will come into picture.
    <u><b>Blue Print</b></u>
Transistion could be understood by BRD (Business Requirement Documents) BRD states what is exact requirement and it is given by End users.
By seeeing thr BRD's we as BW consultants must prepare APPlication Design Documents . The Application Design Documents states all the Technical aspects that needs to be performed as BW backend and also as well as Frontend.
    <u><b>Realization Phase</b></u>
Here as BW consultants we must start confuguring as mentioned in ADD's by taking care of all performance aspects, once all the configuration are done we do Unit testing. unit testing is an activity where we check all the design process wether it running correct or not. After unit testing we move the design objects to Qulaity for Integration Testing.
    <u><b>Testing</b></u>
Here end user will check all the objects, reports on end to end basis. after integration testing is done then UAT ( User acceptance Testing) would come into picture where user check each process and sign off.
    <u><b>Go live</b></u>
Here all the object will be moved to Production where end users and power users can start working on the system. intially for some days Development team would be taking care of all support activites there after  it will be transitoned to support team.
    Hope It helps you.
    Assign Points if it usefull

  • How can we get the value of the key field in a custom data model using governance API?

    Dear Team,
How can we get the value of the key field in a custom data model, to be used for manipulation of the change request fields using governance API?
Any kind of help would be sincerely appreciated.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Tushar.

    Hi Michael,
Thanks for direction. Let me give more context on this as I'm interested to get more details..One of the issue was to read cross entity field values on UI based on user action and set other entity field behaviour...It is similar to what is being posted here.
For ex: Reading MTART from Basic Data UIBB in MM MDG UI and set the field properties in some other custom entities say ZZETEST. This cannot be done using UI BADI as it only supports single entity at a time and not cross entity. So alternatively we found a solution where we can enhance existing PLMB feederclass cl_mdg_bs_mat_feeder_form by reading the model and the entity as needed as it it proved that it supports cross entity UI field behaviours and so business requirements.
This is a workaround for now.
So the question is How do we achive it using governance API for cross entity field behiaviours.?or what is the right way doing this.
Can we do that using governance API and its' methods?
In the Governance API doc you provided below has referring to below external model as part of gevernance API.
The active or inactive data (before or during the derivation or the check) can be read
with the external data model interface IF_USMD_MODEL_EXT with the method READ_CHAR_VALUE and
the corresponding READ_MODE parameter. To avoid unnecessary flushes (derivations), the NO_FLUSH
    parameter should b
    e set to ‘X’.
    Thanks

  • Issue in creating a custom data model from BP

    Hi Team
We have a requirement to create a custom data model by copying data model BP. I have successfully created new data model ZP . I have copied the UI for searching from BP. Issue is when i search a business partner  ideally it should not display any entries because i have just created the data model, But it is taking entries from BP and getting displayed. Please let me know how to map data model to search UI. I dont see option USMD_MODEL here

    Hi Imran,
actually that is not an issue but a designed feature. I'm afraid that you need to re-think your whole project. The explanations is rather simple:
Data model BP in MDG is a so called Re-Use Area data modell. This means that active data (records that are currently not stored in a change request) are saved in existing SAP ERP data base tables like BUT000 for the business partner master data and LFA1 or KNA1 for Vendor or Customer master data.
If you copy data model BP to ZP you still refer to the same active area. You will always find the same active objects - no matter which data model you are actually using for the user interface. The only difference wil occur for objects being currently processed in a change request. In that case a separation between BP and ZP is possible. But this won't help to solve your issue.
From SAP side I can only recommend not to copy BP but to find a different way of integrating your project needs into BP.
    Best regards
    Michael
