Business Rules : Unable to create a global variable (Fixed)

Hello all,
I try to create a global variable in order to use it in a business rule;
I selected an outline.
I chose the type "Member"
I chose the dimension "Period"
I clicked on the lookup button in front of the default value and chose the member "January"
Finally, I chose the usage type "Run-Time prompt" and type in a prompt string.
Unfortunately, when I click on save, I get an error message : Variable value ["January"] is invalid.
If I try to do not specified a default member, it is possible to save.
But when I launch the business rule and specified a member in the the prompt message, I get an error 1060120 : OLAP error.
I cannot figure out what's going wrong, so any help is welcomed.
Thanks,
DLP

Thanks for your answer,
I finally figure out what's going wrong.
This issue is due to the fact that the outline is configured to accept duplicated names.
When I create the same outline but with duplicated names turn off, every thing goes perfectly.
I don't know why the outline accepts duplicated name.
In fact, I do not understand what are the reasons for using duplicate name...

    :GLOBAL.my_var := 15; Well, this statement is not correct! Global variables
    stores a character string of up to 255 characters in
    length. Thus, valid statement for Khurram example
    is:
    :GLOBAL.my_var := TO_CHAR(15);
    or
    :GLOBAL.my_var := '15';
    But numeric values are implicitly converted by oracle so there's nothing in fact wrong with the statement...
    :GLOBAL.my_var := 15;

    Hi
    what aartjan is saying is the way for you. but you can develop an utility which will actually help you create global variables. To get the details on this just have a look at VI Scripting section on LAVA forum.
    But i would like you to suggest few things
    1. If your programs have so many global variables (Thats why u want utility) then you should take out some time to read about LabVIEW design patterns. I think if programmer follows these practicess he dont need a single global variable.
    2. Their are some other ways to achieve similar functionality as of global variables (Uninitialized Shift Registers, Single Element Qs and so on) but they are much faster than global variables.
    I am Attaching Whatever Resources i am having I will also attach the template of the design pattern i generaly use in short duration

  • Business Rules error when creating new classic planning application in 9.3.

    Im trying to create a new planning application using classis planning application wizard in Workspace. everything seems alright untill i gets an error saying "Business rules cant connect to Planning"
    other than this Business rules working fine and i can open business rules in other applications and i can access business rules repository in EAS.
    Any thoughts on this ?

    Further invesitgation bears this problem out.
    Oracle support recommend wrapping the SimpleType in a ComplexType. This does work, but now I have an extra wrapper element to deal with. I either have to use the wrapped type in my other complex, composed Types and/or add an external wrapping element when trying to create Business Services in BPM to call the BusinessRules I've created.
    This is a bit messy.
    To be clear, this does not seem to be an issue with Business Rules; the BR editor and generation of Facts (including simple restricted types -> JAXB 2.0/Java Enumerations) seems to work correctly. There seems to be an issue exposing DFs as Services. The code which generated the WSDL and its supporting types seems to choke on restricted SimpleTypes.
    As a side note, it seems that HumanTasks have a similar limitation

    What I want to do is to combine Get Voc/Isc and GO buttons (shown in the front panal) to one button, and also combine Setup Linear Stair Sweep and start sweep together. I do now find a good way to do that. Thanks so much for your kind help.
    There is no "Get Voc/Isc" or "GO" button anywhere on the front panel, and I have no idea what you mean by "Setup Linear Stair Sweep" and "start sweep". Are you sure you uploaded the correct code?
    Other VI comments:
    You are abusing/misusing global variables.
    You already have a state machine, so you can actually code this using just the state machine without actually needing the separate event structure loop. Even if you do keep it, that still does not require you to use global variables.
    Why do you have a loop around the Write to Spreadsheet File? This serves no purpose and actually stops your code in that loop until the Stop global is set. This doesn't make much sense.
    Since you do not have a path wired to the Write to Spreadheet File VI, you will be asked for a path each time the loop iterates. Use a shift register to hold the value of the path from iteration to iteration.
    Get rid of the Build XY Graph Express VI and those Convert to Dynamic Data functions. Replace with a single Bundle function.

  • Oracle Business Rule : Unable to modify the rule at runtime

    Hi
    I am developing simple Business rule using Oracle jdevelper 11g which displays a message based on two rules.
    rule1 : If amount <= 100, displays the message "Less than or equal to 100"
    rule2 : If amount >100 and amount less than 200 display the message "Between 100 and 200"
    The above rule is created within the BPEL process which accepts a parameter. Once the BPEL project has been published, it has created a Dictionary with one ruleset having two rules mentioned above.
    If I test the BPEL process through em console response is getting displayed based on the above rule.
    Now I am trying to modify Rule2 through SOA Composer as below.
    Rule2 : If amount >100 and amount less than 300 display the message "Between 100 and 300"
    After editing and modifying the rule , the message is not getting updated properly in the properties window. If I save and commit the rule, BPEL process is giving the error
    If any one has faced this problem and got the solution, please help me to solve this issue
    Thanks in advance

    Hi
    Thanks for the response.
    I have saved and committed the new rule. When modified the rule, assert new value is displaying as blank. If I click on Validate button, it is not displaying any error. Once I save and commit it is showing below error in BPEL Process

  • How to create a "global" variable in Photoshop (or let a script "sleep" in the background)

    I tried to toggle the select-tool and the move-tool with a script. Seems simple enough. Something like:
    var toggleState;
    if (toggleState == true){
        activateMoveTool();
        toggleState = false;
    if (toggleState == false){
        activateSelectTool();
        toggleState = true;
    should do it (well, beside the "activateMoveTool" and "activateSelectTool" functions, which are not a problem).
    But how to rember the variable toggleState? I tried to make it global, but did not find a way. Is there any?
    Or could I just have an objekt(or funktion) running in the background that would keep track of variables like that one?

    Not having X's programing background I think of an action reference as something that tells Photoshop what to do. And yes it is like a little action that you write instead of record. For example the code that I and X posted could also be written like this
    var ref = new ActionReference();
    ref.putProperty( charIDToTypeID( "Prpr" ), stringIDToTypeID('tool') );// what key to get
    ref.putEnumerated( charIDToTypeID("capp"), charIDToTypeID("Ordn"), charIDToTypeID("Trgt") );// where to get it from
    var cTool = executeActionGet(ref);// in this case returns a one key descriptor
    var cToolTypeID =  cTool.getEnumerationType( stringIDToTypeID('tool') );// get the value of that key
    alert( typeIDToStringID( cToolTypeID ) );// make that value readable
    Most of the ordinals you will see will be target as Photoshop likes whatever you are working on to be active. You sometimes see next or previous. I can't recall seeing a 'normal ordinal' like first or second.
    There is not much in the way of documentation. Most of what I know comes from looking at the scriptlistner log, xtools and X himself, and a little bit of code I put together for exploring action descriptors and action list. It's not as nice as X's getterdemo but works more the way I think. It sends it's output to the ESTK console window
    var ref = new ActionReference();
    ref.putEnumerated( charIDToTypeID("Lyr "), charIDToTypeID("Ordn"), charIDToTypeID("Trgt") );
    var desc = executeActionGet(ref)
    var c = desc.count ;
    //for(var i=0;i<c;i++){ // to enumerate list
    //  $.writeln('Key '+i+' = '+desc.getType(i))
    for(var i=0;i<c;i++){ //enumerate descriptor's keys
      $.writeln('Key '+i+' = '+typeIDToStringID(desc.getKey(i))+': '+desc.getType(desc.getKey(i)))

  • Creating a global variable for a counter.

    All,
    we have the following scenario - we are getting a flat file into XI. The file is converted into an xml message (<source> message) in content conversion with the records/message setting as 1000. So, the input file is split into messages with 1000 records/each. (except for the last one).
    Now - we map these messages into another message (<sourceIdx> message) to add a counter node to the record structure (rest of the structure is the exact same). The question is we need to maintain the counter across the messages.
    Meaning - if there are 100 <source> messages that are mapped to 100 <sourceIdx> messages. The first record in the first message will have the counter as 1 and the last one as 1000. we want the first record in the second message to start at 1001 and not 1 again.
    How can we do this? Also - is there a way - where you can add this counter during the content conversion itself. That will save us this mapping.
    Thanks,

    It might be possible to use a java pointer and point it at a reserved memory location in the XI box, then just modify and call this pointer in a UDF.  Another possibility is to write a file with your number directly from the UDF to a place on the XI box and just call and modify this file with the UDF.  I don't know if the second would actually work, but those are the non-XI involved way of doing it.
    Another option would be to explore using a BPM that would have your variable in it.

  • Using Global variables in business rules

    In EAS after expanding the Business Rules section there is a Global Variables section. I have created some global variables in this section and I am trying to use them in the Rule editor and not having much luck. Are they retrieved differently to local variables...Currently this is how I am calling them within a FIX....
    FIX([Global_Varaiable])
    calculation;
    EndFix
    Please correct me if I am wrong, also can any one provide some good documentation and some gd links for writing business rules. I'm just starting out to create some business rule which runs on save on some input forms I am creating and finding it rather difficult.... :-(..
    Many Thanks

    Hi,
    Global variables will work in the same way as local variables so you are using them correctly.
    Business rules are just really glorified calc scripts, if you want to know about calc script commands have a read of the tech ref :- http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12825_01/epm.111/esb_techref/frameset.htm?launch.htm
    It will have all the calculation commands and functions and descriptions on how they work.
    Cheers

    It seems very basic level problem, however...Please let me know if anybody knows how to solve it
    Thanks,

  • Global Variable in Essbase unable to pull up dimension structure

    Hi!
    I have created a global variable in Essbase using which I want to select a dimension member in a Business rule. While trying to create the global variable in Essbase though, I cannot pull up the dimension structure in the Limits or Default value fields to view them. So even if I leave them blank and validate the business rule that uses this global variable, and if I try to select a member from the dimension that this variable references, I get this error "Null child not allowed".
    In the global variable settings, even if I type in a value manually in the default value field and use this global variable in a business rule, I get the same error.
    This global variable itself can pull up the structure of other dimensions. It is only this one dimension that is giving me trouble. Do I have to make any dimension setting changes? I have checked the settings/security and they seem to be identical to the other dimensions that work fine.
    This is the 9.3.1. world and I am doing these changes in the EAS console client (not the web version).
    Any pointers will be appreciated.
    Thanks!
    NJ

    It looks like global variable cannot handle a hierarchy that is about 1800 members strong directly under the root. So I had to move the members under a 'dummy' rollup member under the root and now the business rule can bring up the hierarchy wrt the global varaible.

  • Temporary variables in business rule in essbase

    It is validatoing correctly but when I am running the rule it is giving the error as:
    Error executing formula for [ROA Tax Rate] (line 18): Cannot assign [DOUBLE] objects of different length
    A I doing something wrong with the declaration? (ROA Tax Rate is the member name)
    Please suggest.

    Hi,
    Try this,

  • IF command does not work on the value of a global variable

    Dear all!
    I created a global variable &CurQ, assigned it to my application and my current database and assigned a value "Q3" to it. Then I created a simple business rule: Forecast (IF (&CurQ==Q1) Forecast=Actual; ELSE Forecast=Plan; ENDIF;). "Forecast", "Actual" and "Plan" are Scenario dimension members. After validating and running this command I found that Forecast member always picks the values of "Actual" member although it should pick the values of "Forecast" (given that &CurQ has the value of "Q3"). I tweaked around with my IF command and found that it always picks just the first statement after the condition regardless of whether the condition is true or false. So I am stuck and can't guess where the problem hides. I will be very grateful for any hint!

    Hi,
    Try using your variable in your fix and using the @ISMBR function as your condiation.
    e.g.
    FIX(&CurQ)
    Forecast (
    IF @ISMBR(Q1) Forecast=Actual;
    ELSE Forecast=Plan;
    ENDIF;)
    ENDFIX

  • Business Rules in Planning 11.1.2.1

    Hi,
    I'm having a strange problem in Planning 11.1.2.1 dataforms. I added a business rule and selected Run on Save, Use members in dataform and Hide Prompt in a dataform. However when I press the save button, the Business Rule prompt appears, and the values of the prompt parameters are not filled with the current page selection (the specific business rule has 2 run-time prompt variables), while I was expecting it to simply start running without showing the prompt and ask the members to the user.
    Anyone knows what could be the problem?
    Thank you
