Global Variable in Essbase unable to pull up dimension structure

Hi!
I have created a global variable in Essbase using which I want to select a dimension member in a Business rule. While trying to create the global variable in Essbase though, I cannot pull up the dimension structure in the Limits or Default value fields to view them. So even if I leave them blank and validate the business rule that uses this global variable, and if I try to select a member from the dimension that this variable references, I get this error "Null child not allowed".
In the global variable settings, even if I type in a value manually in the default value field and use this global variable in a business rule, I get the same error.
This global variable itself can pull up the structure of other dimensions. It is only this one dimension that is giving me trouble. Do I have to make any dimension setting changes? I have checked the settings/security and they seem to be identical to the other dimensions that work fine.
This is the 9.3.1. world and I am doing these changes in the EAS console client (not the web version).
Any pointers will be appreciated.
Thanks!
NJ

It looks like global variable cannot handle a hierarchy that is about 1800 members strong directly under the root. So I had to move the members under a 'dummy' rollup member under the root and now the business rule can bring up the hierarchy wrt the global varaible.

    What I want to do is to combine Get Voc/Isc and GO buttons (shown in the front panal) to one button, and also combine Setup Linear Stair Sweep and start sweep together. I do now find a good way to do that. Thanks so much for your kind help.
    There is no "Get Voc/Isc" or "GO" button anywhere on the front panel, and I have no idea what you mean by "Setup Linear Stair Sweep" and "start sweep". Are you sure you uploaded the correct code?
    Other VI comments:
    You are abusing/misusing global variables.
    You already have a state machine, so you can actually code this using just the state machine without actually needing the separate event structure loop. Even if you do keep it, that still does not require you to use global variables.
    Why do you have a loop around the Write to Spreadsheet File? This serves no purpose and actually stops your code in that loop until the Stop global is set. This doesn't make much sense.
    Since you do not have a path wired to the Write to Spreadheet File VI, you will be asked for a path each time the loop iterates. Use a shift register to hold the value of the path from iteration to iteration.
    Get rid of the Build XY Graph Express VI and those Convert to Dynamic Data functions. Replace with a single Bundle function.

  • User Variable in Business Rule or Global Variable

    I wanted to call the User Variable value of Planning application under the Globel Variable of Default Value. Example I have created one Globel variable under the Default value the user varible value need to pickup so any thought how I can do this.
    I know in the Form if you use &UsrVar this will show the user variable value in the Data form but it is not showing the User Variable value in global variable or inside the Business rule.It is giving an error message there is no substitution variable has been defined. Please explain.

    Hi,
    User variables are meant to be used in web forms and web forms only. You can certainly pass their values to business rules when you used them in POV or page section of the form during save. All you need to do is to create another business rule (local or global) variable in business rule on the corresponding dimension and use it in your business rule. If you enable running the business rule on save and using the form values for variables options in form properties, business rules would replace the values of business rule variables with the values that are set in user variables.

  • Business Rules : Unable to create a global variable (Fixed)

    Hello all,
    I try to create a global variable in order to use it in a business rule;
    I selected an outline.
    I chose the type "Member"
    I chose the dimension "Period"
    I clicked on the lookup button in front of the default value and chose the member "January"
    Finally, I chose the usage type "Run-Time prompt" and type in a prompt string.
    Unfortunately, when I click on save, I get an error message : Variable value ["January"] is invalid.
    If I try to do not specified a default member, it is possible to save.
    But when I launch the business rule and specified a member in the the prompt message, I get an error 1060120 : OLAP error.
    I cannot figure out what's going wrong, so any help is welcomed.
    Thanks,

    Thanks for your answer,
    I finally figure out what's going wrong.
    This issue is due to the fact that the outline is configured to accept duplicated names.
    When I create the same outline but with duplicated names turn off, every thing goes perfectly.
    I don't know why the outline accepts duplicated name.
    In fact, I do not understand what are the reasons for using duplicate name...

  • Loading a text file into a global variable issue - really a global var?

    From all the documentation and examples I can find, it appears that it would be
    correct to create a global array variable [outside of any functions] to load image names into,
    then use these images for a slideshow. I want to make the app dynamic, in that changing the text file gives a new set of images.
    The global variable goes null [no values] after the load event listener. Why is that?
    Isn't global, well global, and alive for the duration of the SWF?
    PARAMS.TXT:
    monthNames=January,February,March,April,May,June,July,August,September,October,November,De cember&dayNames=Sunday,Monday,Tuesday,Wednesday,Thursday,Friday,Saturday

    var dNames:Array = new Array();
    var mNames:Array = new Array();
    var request:URLRequest = new URLRequest("images/params.txt");
    var variables:URLLoader = new URLLoader();
    variables.dataFormat = URLLoaderDataFormat.VARIABLES;
    variables.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, completeHandler);
    try
    variables.load(request);
    catch (error:Error)
    trace("Unable to load URL: " + error);
    trace("2 mNames 2: " + mNames[2]);
    trace("2 dNames 3: " + dNames[3]);
    stop();
    function completeHandler(event:Event):void
    var loader:URLLoader = URLLoader(event.target);
    dNames = loader.data.dayNames.split(",");
    mNames = loader.data.monthNames.split(",");
    trace(loader.data.dayNames);
    trace("1 mNames 2: " + mNames[2]);
    trace("1 dNames 3: " + dNames[3]);
    OUTPUT:
    2 mNames 2: undefined
    2 dNames 3: undefined
    Sunday,Monday,Tuesday,Wednesday,Thursday,Friday,Saturday
    1 mNames 2: March
    1 dNames 3: Wednesday
    How do I access these values after loading from the external file, after the load?
    Thanks in advance.

    The statement you quoted from whatever Adobe documentation is correct.
    If you want to load the data into the arrays before anything else happens, then have anything else that happens execute via the completeHandler function... after the data is loaded and processed into the arrays.
    the command: loadFile() executes before the trace("2:" +images[4]); command.  The loadFile function is processed and the loading process BEGINS... but starting the loading does not delay the main processing from continuing down the line--the loading itself becomes a secondary/background task.  The command was to execute the loadFile function and the processing of that function was completed.  If you don't believe so, then add a trace...
    function loadFile():void
         vars.dataFormat = URLLoaderDataFormat.VARIABLES;
         vars.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, onComplete, false, 0, true);
         vars.load(new URLRequest("images/fnames.txt"));
         trace("started loading");
    If you add that trace, you should see that the loadFile function execution is completed and the next line in your code is then processed... trace(2....)
    The addEventlistener does not stop anything.  The addEventListener code is assigning a monitor, not a traffic controller... it is telling the monitor to indicate when the data has finished loading.  It is not telling anything to stop program execution.
    So if you want to wait until the data is loaded before you do anything else... it goes....
    function onComplete(evt:Event):void
         var urlVars:URLVariables = evt.target.data;
         images = vars.data.images.split(",");
         tnails = vars.data.thumbnails.split(",");

  • Using Global variable in Record Group

    Hi,
    I have a requirement where in I need to pull a column name from a table and then use that value in the select statement of a record group. I have tried using global variables but it is not working. Here is the record group I would like to use.
    RG_DOMAIN is based on LOV_DOMAIN
    SELECT :GLOBAL.DOMAIN_COLUMN_NAME, DESCRIPTION FROM
    DM_T_DOMAIN_VALUES
    WHERE DOMAIN_NAME := BLOCK.ATTRIBUTE;
    In the Key-Listval I have a select statement in which does this :
    SELECT DOMAIN_COLUMN
    INTO :GLOBAL.DOMAIN_COLUMN_NAME
    FROM DM_T_DOMAIN_RULES WHERE DOMAIN_NAME = :BLOCK.ATTRIBUTE;
    SHOW_LOV('LOV_DOMAIN');
    The problem is I am not getting the value I am just getting the Domain_column name. For example for Domain_name 'CALC_TYP' the Domain_column is COLUMN_10 and I just see COLUMN_10 my LOV when I want to see the value of COLUMN_10 from the DM_T_DOMAIN_VALUES table.
    I tried using Name_in and Copy but not working. Can anyone suggest a solution?
    Thanks

    Francois ,
    I tried this but I am getting error saying record group does not exist. Can you tell me what should I go in Populate_group... and show_lov..maybe I am doing something wrong?
    Declare
    LC$Req Varchar2(512) ;
    Begin
    LC$Req := 'SELECT ' || :GLOBAL.DOMAIN_COLUMN_NAME || ' FROM ....' ;
    Create_Group_From_Query( rg_group, LC$Req ) ;
    Populate_group(RG_DOMAIN); ?? --- is this correct?
    Show_Lov(LOV_DOMAIN) ; -- and is this correct?

  • Reading a global variable from tomcat with JNDI. Example not working

    Hi you can help me to make this example work?
    Context initCtx = new InitialContext();
    Context envCtx = (Context)initCtx.lookup("java:comp/env");
    Object o = envCtx.lookup("testvariable");
    <GlobalNamingResources>
    <Environment name="testvariable" type="java.lang.Boolean" value="false"/>
    Nice greetings Christian

    I found out that in addition to having the JNDI lookup code, you have to
    - have the environment variable declared in the app server configuration
    - have a resource-env-ref entry in your webapp module
    - have the application container bind your named variable with the global variable
    I am using tomcat 5.5, and have done the following. with success.
    the following example uses the default sample environment variable in the tomcat server.xml
    in tomcat server.xml:
    <GlobalNamingResources>
    <Environment
    name="simpleValue"
    type="java.lang.Integer"
    value="30"/>
    </GlobalNamingResources>
    in my application's web.xml:
    <resource-env-ref>
    <description>Test read resource environment variable</description>
    <resource-env-ref-name>simpleValue</resource-env-ref-name>
    <resource-env-ref-type>java.lang.Integer</resource-env-ref-type>
    </resource-env-ref>
    in my META-INF/context.xml (or otherwise, in tomcat's context deployment configuration)
    <ResourceLink name="simpleValue" global="simpleValue"
    type="java.lang.Integer"/>
    Note: in theory, the named resource by your web app could be different from the global environment variable, but here they are the same 'simpleValue'
    This is the really important step, that with out it, nothing works.,
    the context.xml is known to work with tomcat when it exists in META-INF/context.xml inside the .war file (i use war files to deploy, but you should be able to create META-INF/context in an unpacked webapp directory too, and tomcat will find it.,
    I can not say what it is like for other app servers, but this mapping step is the critical point that i discovered after A LOT of hair pulling.
    then, make use of it, i created a jndiTest.jsp:
    <%@ page import="javax.naming.Context" %>
    <%@ page import="javax.naming.InitialContext" %>
    <%@ page import="javax.naming.NamingException" %>
    <%
    try {
    Context initCtx = new InitialContext();
    Context ctx = (Context) initCtx.lookup("java:/comp/env");
    Object o = ctx.lookup("simpleValue");
    %>
    <%=o%><br>
    <%
    catch (NamingException ex) {
    System.err.println(ex);
    %>
    since my server.xml defines the value for 'simpleValue' to be 30, this page displays 30

  • ESB - Global Variables? access of the variables outside the transformation

    I am working on one of the ESB services for my project(not looking for BPEL).
    1. Database adapter polls the data table (Say X and Column C1, C2, C3....Cn,CountofRecordsof Other table Y)
    2. Routing Service calls other database adapter for pulling the data from other table(Say Y) in another schema based on the C1,C2,C3 from X.
    3. After getting the count(i only need the count of records based on the C1, C2 and C3 conditions from Y table), I have to update the table X which corresponds to the row C1.
    The trouble what I have is
    1. How do I update the records which is for the C1 as the return of the value (which is the count) from the second adapter gives only the record count but it doesn't store the identifier from the first table.
    2.Is there anything called global variable concept in the ESB?
    3.How to access the varilable which are outside the schema in the current transformation. i.e, consider I have two schemas, Schema A and Schema B,where I am mapping the variables in the transformation, and considering I need a variable which is the schema which was populated with values during runtime in Schema C.
    Let me know if needs more clarification!

    No, there are no global variables in ESB, such in BPEL.
    I think, this should be known when you first starting a design your ESB processes.
    You can accomplish your task in next way:
    add global variable to your XML payload.
    For example, your XML payload looks like:
    <payload><some content/></payload>
    You can extend your XML schema to include global variable, so you payload may looks like:
    <payload><some content/><global_var>value</global_var></payload> (I think this's the best way, if you really need something that can be accessed in many parts of your ESB process)

  • Business Rule variable in Essbase report

    Hi,
    I need to create a report where I will use the variable (created as Business Rules variable e.g.- [BudYear],[CurrVersion] etc) but it is not working. If I use [BudYear] it is just showing the dimension name in report as 'Year'. But when I use any exxbase substitution variable (e.g.- &CurYear etc) it is working fine. So, can it be possible to use business rules variable in essbase reports?
    Can it be possible to save the essbase report in comma delimited format (I am only getting tab delimited option). Please revert back.
    Thanks & Regards.

    As John rightly said, HBR rules are only applicable within HBR. What you want is an Essbase Substitution Variable. So long as the value does not get selected interactively in the HBR, you can use a Substitution Variable instead. An example would be something like current year -- this isn't going to get changed by the users via a Planning form or a prompt.
    HBRs, Calc Scripts, member formulas, load rules, and of course Essbase report scripts can all read substitution variables. See the DBAG for more information. Personally, I only use HBR variables, local or global, for items off the POV or driven by a run-time prompt.
    Unfortunately, a comma delimted file is a pain in a report script -- you have to make your columns fixed length and then use the MASK command to put the commas in -- ugh. However tab delimited files are an option. I've never found an IT group that couldn't handle the latter format.
    You may also go with the the DATAEXPORT calc script command -- a comma delmited output is possible with that command and of course it supports Essbase substitution variables.

  • Output a global variable to RS232 module

    Hello!
    I am new in using DASYLab and I find it very interesting, though I have
    this problem: I want to control the velocity of a stepper motor by
    ajusting the value  of a global variable and send it to the RS232
    output module. The problem is that I dont know the output format of
    this variable. How is the sintax of the output?
    Many thanks
    Miguel Neto

    Attached you can find a "complex" example: The worksheet controls via RS232 a small electric engine. The engine understands three commands with format "<cmd><number>", eg. "F500" (set frequency to 500Hz), "D100" (set duty cycle to 10%), and "V450" (set voltage to 4.5V). That "450" means "4.5V" was hardcoded into the hardware.
    Note how the values from the sliders are send indirectly to the hardware: first, the value is stored in a global variable. The value are now modified "behind the scenes" by calculating a global string (see attached image). If that string content changes, the action modules send that string via RS232 output module to the hardware.
    The calculation of the string is necessary to get rid of the decimals after the comma.
    Rename the file rs232_example._zip to rs232example.zip (remove underscore), because the NI forum is unable to recognize the ZIP file created with 7zip app... :/

    vivek
    you have to use following keyword to declare a Global variable with no datatype
    :GLOBAL.VARIABLENAME
    you may initialize the global variable with your text filed or some stativ value like
    :GLOBAL.VARIABLENAME := :Field

  • Use of global variables like g_cnt_transactions_transferred in the LSMW

    Hi SapAll.
    when i had a look at the some of the LSMW's whic use IDOC as the object of uploading data into SAP from external Files i have found in the coding under the step "Maintain Field Mapping and Conversion Rules" that they use some of the global variables like below
    .if p_trfcpt = yes or sy-saprl >= '46A'.
      EDI_DC40-DOCNUM = g_cnt_transactions_transferred + 1.

    elseif p_trfcpt = yes.

    endif.
    my doubt is where i can find these variables 'g_cnt_transactions_transferred ','g_cimtyp','g_mescod','g_fileport','g_trfcport' in the LSMW and what is the use of the variable  'g_cnt_transactions_transferred ' in the LSMW.
    I have treid to find out the above listed variables looking in step 'Maintain Field Mapping and Conversion Rules' under global variabels list and the other lists also but i couldnt found.
    can any one help me in this ?
    regards.
    Seetha.

    Hi Seetha,
               In the LSMW Workbench go to the option user menu.  And check the option display conversion program.
    Now when you execute with the radio button on dislplay conversion program, you ll see the code that got generated in the background while you built your LSMW.
    The global variables that you have mentioned are bound to be there in this program generated in the background..
    You can put a break point here and see for yourself what the value of these global variables are at runtime.
    File port, TRFC port , no. of transactions executed by one run of the LMSW Idoc program , message type are some of the fields that you have asked for .

  • Java Threads vs. Native Global Variables

    A brief description of the problem:
    I am trying to integrate a multi-threaded Java app with legacy Fortran code. The Fortran code in question makes extensive use of global variables in the form of Fortran's Common Block data structure.
    If multiple threads were allowed access to a native routine, they would over write each others data which is stored in global variables.
    If only one thread at a time can have access to the native routine for the duration of the native routine, the whole advantage of using threads is completely nullified.
    These native routines cannot be rewritten (3rd party code) and must be used.
    One solution I envisioned was to load a new copy of the native shared object code for each Java object that used the native code. However, it seems System.loadLibrary() can only be used in a static context.
    Is there any known solution to this problem?

    Here is an elaboration on the earlier suggestions. It's a high overhead solution, because you have to start a bunch of JVMs.
    1. You have a java control program, which will start up a pool of "services", make requests to them, and gather the results.
    2. Each service is a small java program with a native method:
    o java communications front-end.
    o native method declaration.
    o native - in your case fortran - method implementation.
    3. Each service is started using "exec". That puts it in a separate process.
    4, Since each service is a java program, you can use java to do communications between the control program and the service.
    o You could use RMI.
    o You could - perhaps - use java Process communications, i.e., have the services write to stdout, and have the control program capture the output.
    o You could use socket communications.

  • Unit Testing and APEX Global Variables

    We've recently started to unit test our database level PL/SQL business logic.
    As such we have a need to be able to simulate or provide output from PL/SQL APEX components in order to facilitate testing of these components.
    Some of the most obvious portions that need simulation are:
    1. The existence of a session
    2. The current application ID
    3. The current page ID.
    We currently handle requirement #1 by using apex_040100.wwv_flow_session.create_new
    We handle 2 and 3 using the apex_application.g_flow_id and g_flow_step_id global variables.
    I'm just wondering, how safe is it for us to use wwv_flow_session.create_new to simulate the creation of a session at testing time for those things which need a session?
    I've also noticed that there are apex_application.get_application_id and apex_application.get_page_id functions whose output is not tied to the global variables (at least in our current version).
    Is it safe for us to expect that we can set these global variables for use in testing or is apex moving to get_application_id and get_page_id functions away from global variables?
    Will there be corresponding set_application_id and set_page_id functions in the future?
    Sorry for the question bomb. Thanks for any help.

    My first question would be why do you need to establish a session to test your PL/SQL?
    wwv_flow_session is a package internal to APEX, and you should probably leave it be.
    The get_application_id procedure you refer to is in apex_application_install, which is used for scripting installation of applications - not get/set of page ID like you're describing.
    If you're uncomfortable using apex_application.g_flow_id, you can use v('APP_ID') or preferably pass the app_id/page_id as parameters to your procedures.
    Your question seems to have a few unknowns, so that's the best I can describe.
