Button to open file

I would like to include a set of instructions in my form. My thought was to include a help button, that when clicked would open up a separate file containing the work instructions. I have 2 questions.
1. How can I include the work instruction file within my form (I prefer the file to be hidden). I can have the instructions in ppt or pdf format.
2. What would be the code required to open the file when the help button is clicked.

Hi,
This topic was discussed just last week. If you have a look back a few pages you should find it.
However if your form is already saved as a Dynamic XML Form, then I would recommend an alternative approach.
Create one (or more) pages at the end of your form.
Place all of your work instructions on this page(s).
Include a "Hide this help" button on the page.
Set the pages presence to hidden.
Then your "Help" button would set the page presence to visible and set the focus to that page.
This way you keep the form and the instruction together in one place.
Here is an example of showing and hiding pages from a dropdown: http://assure.ly/iWzzPg. Hopefully you can take the concept and apply it to your help page and buttons.

I see that you are having some connection issues with your HP Officejet 8620 running on Windows 7. I am sorry for the frustration, but happy to help!
I would recommend going through these two guides:

If you are experiencing an intermittent wireless connection, try restarting your router. Consult your router manufacturer, Internet service provider, or network administrator for instructions on how to restart the router.
Remove any metal objects between the printer, the computer, and the router. Objects such as refrigerators, microwaves, or metal bookcases can interfere with wireless transmission.
Move any device that emits radio signals, such as microwaves and cordless telephones, farther away from the printer. Such devices can interfere with wireless signals.

Does 6.0.2 have a problem with upload/browse buttons on sites or the save as/open file/export bookmark option or is it just me?

The box to select a file from/to the HD doesn't open. I can't save pages, images, Export/Import the Bookmarks via HTML, open file (CTRL+O), upload images via a browse button on sites, etc. Since I don't have a printer Print print (CTRL+P) defaults to xps which requires a save as dialog.
Only in Firefox.
Version 6.0.2

Last confirmed save as via Firefox was August 22nd.

I'm using OS 10.6.8 and Mail 4.5. When I receive mails with attachments which are visible the save button doesn't work. Some contacts have problems opening files sent by me using Mail too. This was never a problem on pre-Intel. A real Mac **** up !

Can you drag and drop the attachments visible in the email to the Desktop OK or does that fail ?
Re the sending: Are these recipients on Mac's or PC's as the file type could be an issue, if on Mac's then try setting the Mail Preferences Composing setting to Plain Text not Rich Text and see if that improves things.

InDesign Button Action for PDF – Open File (in new window)

I am using the 'Open File' action on buttons in a document i am making which will eventually be a PDF, but am wanting to specify the button action to open the file (another PDF) in a new window.
I have found that I can achieve this and add button actions with this specific behavior in Acrobat, but it seems to be missing in indesign's abilities as far as I can see. Is there a way to do this in indesign so that i do not have to tinker in acrobat after I have made my PDF. As if I have changes to the PDF, all buttons then have to be totally re-done each time, and i will have possibly 900 buttons!!

You are correct. I want to have a DVD with multiple PDFs. The main one almost acting as a table of contents for the rest.
Problem = the 'main one' is 62 pages long, many hundred buttons and every page has at least a few of these links needed.
Which means, if you are correct (and I believe you are, hope you aren't) that I need to custom code these buttons in Acrobat.
The method is easy, but x300 = painful. And then the kicker... Boss says, 'Change slide 30' ... which means: Back to InDesign, Export to PDF, Recode ALL BUTTONS.
*Note, there are some 'interactive' buttons with roll over states. So I don't think replacing the pages would work.

Interactive Buttons - Open File - How do I open a file in a "new" window?

Running CS5 and I'm working on an interactive document. I have created a Button and my Action is to "Open File" and I've selected the applicable file. When I export to PDF and click on that button, it opens the file but not in a new window so I lose my original source PDF.
I know that I can do these actions in Acrobat but I'd prefer to do all my actions in InDesign so I don't have to keep going back and forth.

I believe it has to be done with a JavaScript in Acrobat. It cannot be done in InDesign. You might ask in the Acrobat forum for more information.

Open File button AND Continue button

Hello,
I try to accomplish the following.
Having a kind of "Jump" button that forwards the user to
another file. Once clicked, it should open that other video in the
very same html window. On that same slide, there is also another
button ("Continue") that just continues the current video.
Now I want this: Let's say we have video A and video B. If
the user clicks on "Jump" the current video A will just be replaced
by the video B to which it has been jumped to. And if the user
doesn't click on "Jump" but on "Continue" it just continues playing
video A.
How can I accomplish this?

Hi Stefan
Pretty straightforward to do. Just insert two buttons on your
slide. (Insert > Button)
Program the first button to open the other movie. (Button
properties > On success field = Open other movie)
Program the second button to continue. (Button properties
> On success field = Open other movie)

Buttons - Open file - open in new screen

I use the buttons to open a new PDF. Works fine, but the only problem is that the document opens in the same screen, and when closing this new opened document, I lost my previous screen. I need to restart all.
What is the solution for this issue ?
I can change all the links using Acrobat X, because there you can make the choice. Problem is that when you re-generate a new PDF (some changes), you need to do all the work again.

I have done similar things with cmdlg.vbx (Common Dialog 16 bit
version) in Windows 3.11 as follows:
1. Create a VBX item
2. Open up Properties and set location of your cmdlg.vbx
3. Write a simple pl/sql such as FileOpen with a series of
Set_Property such as follows (example only):
VBX.Set_Property('<name of VBXItem>','<vbxproperty>','c:\temp');
where <vbxproperty> could be DialogTitle, InitDir, Filter etc.
(these can all be seen in Properties) depending on your
requirements.
Also, use
VBX.Set_Property('<name of VBXItem>','Flags','&H1800') to force
File Must Exist and Path Must Exist conditions when OPEN
and
VBX.Set_Property('<name of VBXItem>','CancelError','1') to trap
click on Cancel in the File Open dialog box.
4. To activate the File Open dialog box, use
VBX.Set_Property('<name of VBXItem>','Action','1');
5. To capture the selected filename, use
retFilename := VBX.Get_Property('<name of VBXItem>','Filename');
NB.
a) Instead of using '<name of VBXItem>', you could use Find_Item
and refer to its Handle. See VBX package spec.
b) All VBX properties are case-sensitive.

Opening a file e.g. Video avi from a button without opening IE

Hi,
I have been creating a menu with various buttons that use the action 'on success "open file or URL"'. I then link the URL to an avi file that I have created that I want to play in windows media player.
When the menu is produced as a .exe and I click the button linking to the file, an Internet Explorer browser window briefly opens up before the video opens in media player. I want to get rid of that but can't seem to find a way.

How To Open a subVi by pressing an "open file button",

I got this Readdatasubvi I want to run when I press a 'Open file' button in the main vi, Then The sub vi runs and a open file menu opens to choose a file to read from and plot out to a graph. It is working but how can I see the readDataSub VI as an application wich are running parallel with the main VI. It only runs in the background, and I cant see the plottet data Why????? The sub vi has a graph for the plotted data! but it never shows up!

Open file from ADF pages gives a problem

I have created with Jdev 11g an ADF page.
In that page is shown a table with the files that are stored in the database.
I use this code to show the file:
