Buttons and Graphics

I am a new Java programmer and am a young java programmer. I have trying o figure out how to add a JButton where I want and how big but I can't seem to do it right. The things is I have been able to put the JButton were and how big I want it but it gets rid of everything that is displayed using BufferedImage and Graphics. So is there a speical way to make it show up were and how big I want the JButton to be and to keep the Grapchics. Here is my code so far if it helps to see it:
import javax.imageio.ImageIO;
import javax.swing.JFrame;
import java.awt.Color;
import java.awt.Component;
import java.awt.Graphics;
import java.awt.image.BufferedImage;
import java.io.File;
import java.io.IOException;
import javax.swing.JButton;
public class Start extends Component{
     BufferedImage naruto;
     BufferedImage sakura;
     BufferedImage sasuke;
     static JButton start = new JButton("HI");
     public void paint(Graphics g){
          g.setColor(Color.GREEN);
          g.fillRect(0, 0, 800, 800);
          g.drawImage(naruto,300,300,100,100,null);
          g.drawImage(sakura,200,300,100,100,null);
          g.drawImage(sasuke,100,300,100,100,null);
     public Start() {
     try {
          naruto = ImageIO.read(new File("naruto.jpg"));
          sakura = ImageIO.read(new File("sakura.jpg"));
          sasuke = ImageIO.read(new File("sasuke.jpg"));
     } catch (IOException e) {
     public static void main(String args[]) {
          JFrame frame = new JFrame();
          frame.setTitle("Anime Clash");
          frame.add(new Start());
          frame.setSize(800,600);
          frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
          frame.setVisible(true);
}

Ok I will reexplain. I want to add a JButton to my frame, but I also have a Graphics g. Note that you don't add a button directly to a frame. You add it to some container, like a JPanel, and so on.
Again, I strongly suggest you separate your buttons from the component that is doing the drawing.
For example:
//1
JToolBar tb = new JToolBar();
tb.add(someButton);
//2
MyDrawingPanel drawing = ...
3//
frame..getContentPane().add(tb, BorderLayout.NORTH);
frame..getContentPane().add(drawing , BorderLayout.CENTER);The buttons will no longer get in the way, and any problems you are having with your drawing panel are because you aren't following the steps I gave in a previous post.

    No i know where the problem is but i have no idea how to fix it. I think part of the problem is that I never tell it to draw on the JPanel. But Netbeans makes weird code so im not sure how to make the drawRect command implemented on the panel.>
    - People about these parts comment on Java problems, not Netbeans problems. Netbeans has its own [forums for Netbeans problems|http://forums.netbeans.org/] (<- link), try them.
    - As far as the Java code goes, you will get a much better chance of help if you..
    a) Post an SSCCE (<- link), rather than random code snippets that you think encapsulate the problem. Let's face it, you don't know the answer, and until you do, you cannot be sure the fix is to be found in the code snippets you post. Can you?
    b) Post code in between code tags to retain the formatting and indentation. To do that, select the code and click the CODE button on the Plain Text tab of the message posting form.Easy there tiger, this is not a netbeans problem, so he is in the right place.
    The code does look to be SSCCE or close anyways (remove the ... lines and if it still compiles and run I would say this is SSCCE).
    The code tags is a huge problem here though. I am trying to read it without getting a headache, best as I can tell the OP seems to be doing some really funny stuff with paint. Like is he overriding paint to paint a square? That can't be good!

  • Want to add Video and Graphic Card to my computer system

    I Notice that one of the users' in the Apple discussion Board is Listed, (AndyO) he has help me many times in the Past and was succesful in my problrm solution, would he might be able to help me with this?
    I had Purchased the Game Spore Creature Creator the Starter Kit which is just the Creature creator game and not the actual game itself. I wasn't able to install the the game on my computer because I don't have the right or not at all Video and Graphic Card install on my computer. I had Contacted the Company "EA" that puts out the Game Spore, this is what they said what the game requirements are: The minimum system requirements for Spore and Spore the Galactic Edition for Mac are as follows:
    * Mac OS X 10.5.3 Leopard or higher
    * Intel Core Duo Processor
    * 1024 MB RAM
    * At least 345 MB of hard drive space for installation, plus additional space for created creatures. (260 MB for the Trial Edition)
    * Video Card - ATI X1600 or NVidia 7300 GT with 128 MB of Video RAM, or Intel Integrated GMA X3100
    This game will not run on PowerPC (G3/G4/G5) based Mac systems (PowerMac).
    For computers using built-in graphics chipsets, the game requires at least: an Intel Integrated Chipset GMA X3100 or Dual 2.0GHz CPUs, or 1.7GHz Core 2 Duo, or equivalent
    Supported Video Cards
    ATI Radeon(TM) series
    * X1600, X1900, HD 2400, HD 2600
    NVIDIA GeForce series
    * 7300, 7600, 8600, 8800
    Intel(R) Extreme Graphics
    * GMA X3100
    and that I need to upgrade my system. Basically I need; ATI Radeon 1600 or NVIDIA Geforce 7300 and a INTEL Extreme Graphic Video Card-GMA X3100, in order to be able to install and play this game. Since I already have this game, I would like to be able to upgrade my computer system which brings me to ask; does somone know or refer me to a web site that has and sells these Video and Graphic Card and supports for the Mini Mac?
    Plus they say that I need a 1020 of MB of Ram, I Have already found that 1024 MB of Ram but I just need those Video and Graphic Cards for my computer system. I am adding my computer system Profile to my discussion board to show you what I have on my system, would you be able to tell me if I would be able to add these Video and Graphic card and the memory or Ram 1024 to my computer system?
    Note: Here is a web site that I am looking at to add the 1024 MB of Ram to my computer system:

    Hi Trisha,
    The only modern Mac's with video cards are the Mac Pro and Xserve (server) systems. They both are priced quite a bit higher than any Mac Mini.
    Some systems, like the Mac Book Pro laptop can be ordered with different graphics cards, but that has be done when the system is built, as it is not replaceable once the system is built. To find out which systems, go to store.apple.com. For each system that you select, you can see if there's an option for a better video card.

  • Is there a way to make rotated Buttons and ones that overlap??

    currently, im working on a dvd menu, and i want it to look like a stack of Polaroids,
    so i made the menu in photoshop with all the codes, like (+)(%) ect.
    though now i want the buttons to be overlapping and all tilted to a random direction,
    like a real stack of polaroids, i've tried making a "straight" menu and then rotating the buttons, but it didn't work.
    is there a way that you can rotate buttons and have the thumbnail footage also be rotated?
    and is it possible to have buttons that overlap at some point?
    (note that i want the Animated thumbnails)
    here's a random example picture i found online
    though i know it might be possible by making them all by manually in AfterEffects,
    by using the original footage with lots of masks to make thumbnail movies,
    but im not looking for such a tedious job, also im not very skilled in AfterEffects

    In DVD-Video, buttons cannot overlap, and their hit area will always be a rectangle...even if the contents of the button are rotated, it will result only in the rectangle becoming larger, to fit the rotated graphics.
    Regarding button thumbnail layers, they show similar behavior - they will always render out as a rectangle.
    If you don't use thumbnail layers (try a replacement layer), you should be able to rotate the button without the replacement layer getting re-adjusted. But note replacement layers don't accept video. If you want video in the buttons, you'll have to do all the work in After Effects.
    But remember - your buttons cannot overlap without introducing button highlighting problems.
    A better solution is to not make these buttons at all, but a regular menu layer or video background layer. And then you can create custom highlight layers in Photoshop, again making sure your buttons don't overlap. This would be a lot of work.

  • My mac pro wont start. I push the power button and I get a click sound. A few seconds later another click sound and that it.

    My mac pro wont start. I push the power button and I get a click sound. A few seconds later another click sound and that it. I've tried different power plugs. Going direct into the wall, through a power strip. By iteslf, with other devices plugged in. I removed hard drives, and some RAM, and nothing. Sometimes it would not turn on, and then some minutes later it works. So its was sparatic, but now its been the same situation for three days where it wont turn on.
    I'm guessing power supply, but I wanted to see if anyone had a similar expereince and what the solution was, before I drag this beast to my local Apple store and have them look at it. Its a real pain to get it there and back and I want to be armed with some info for them. I already dragged this to them when it first started to do this, and of course it started up just fine for them. And you know if it works for the Genius then theres nothing wrong with. No matter what you explain to them.
    I figure if anyone had a the same problem and was able to resolve it, I can relate that experience to the Genius even if it start up for them.
    Thanks

    Try a SMC Reset using the extended method:
    Remove the AC power cord.
    Press the power-on button. [This drains the stored charge from the power supply]
    wait a quarter minute.
    Restore the power cord, being certain to JAM it into the socket, as the big block of rubber inhibits proper seating.
    wait a quarter minute
    attempt to power on.
    If no joy, examine the button battery half-hidden behind the graphics card. Remove it to measure the Voltage. A new battery should not cost over US$5, and measures a little over 3 Volts. BR-2032 is used in garage door opener controls and car door locks controls. The geeks at Radio Shack can measure it for you.

  • On/off Button and brightness buttons don't work in the Apple Cinema Display

    I write you because I bought a new apple cinema display 20" a month ago and I have problems with the on and off button and the brightness buttons. Thew work sometimes. I think that te problem is windows XP but I am not sure. My graphics card is a ATI RADEON X800 GT Gecube 256 Mb DDR2.
    Would yo mind telling me how can repair that? If I need something to repair o it is better to buy the new windows to avoid that problem.
      Windows XP Pro   ATI Radeon X800GT Gecube 256 Mb DDR2

    Thank you very much. I didn't know this driver.
    But the problem was when I was installing this driver, Windows said that it's imcompatible with windows XP.Is this normal? o I need to download a special edition for windows xp.

  • How do I add video in my Photoshop images and graphics? I need it to play in Adobe Acrobat when I'm done.

    I designed an electronic press kit and I need the video to play on it. I'm getting the video link from YouTube so I was wondering how to make that happen. I already tried putting the YouTube link behind the video layer so it can be clickable in Acrobat, but when I sent it to the online magazine forum there was a lot of lines in it. I saw this YouTube video on how to do it but it requires ImageReady TUTORIAL-Add video to your Photoshop images and graphics! - YouTube. I don't have the Photoshop to ImageReady button in my PS....HELP! How do I get this done?!?!?

    That tutorial is extremely old. ImageReady was last used in CS2. In other words that program no longer exists.
    Luckily video made its way into photoshop so you can easily import your video into photoshop.
    Instead of an animation panel, it is now called the timeline panel. When the panel first opens it will ask you if you want an animation or a movie. Choosing movie will reduce the number of layers required down to just 2, one for the movie and one for the TV image. Since this is a timeline, you can split the timeline to remove any portion of the video you do not want or need to add an effect to that area of the timeline. Each time you split the video, it will move it to a new layer for you.
    You can still export as an animated gif by using the File>Save As dialog box. or You can export as a movie and choose another video format. Which format and codec you can choose will depend on how many other video apps of Adobe's you also have installed.

  • Trying to use Buttons and keep getting an error code

    I am trying to use buttons and I keep getting the error code ReferenceError: Error #1074: Illegal write to read-only property graphics on flash.display.MovieClip.
    There is one button that doesnt appear when I view it live/in browser/ in flash professional
    I have created this button the SAME way, about 36 times, as the other buttons that work fine. What am I doing wrong?
    PLEASE HELP ASAP...

    The error appears to involve trying to assign a value to the graphics property of a MovieClip.  Do you have code that uses something.graphics =

  • Adding text to a button, and related button fun

    Ok, I'm new to AS3 (only been doing it for a couple weeks
    now, never really learned AS2), so help would be great, especially
    as the deadline was more then a week ago (not all my fault there)
    I put a text field inside a button and tried to put text in
    that button's text field via the following:
    hmm.. I'm new to the forum I guess... don't know if it added
    the code, the code is: instancenameofbutton.textfieldinstance.text
    = "play";
    Well that seems not to work... so how do I make it obey my
    auth-or-a-tah?
    Am I perhaps just slash dot syntax impaired?
    Trouble seem to be that putting text over the button blocks
    the event.. Is there another way to skin this cat?
    A related problem I haven't been able to fix is.. I have a
    text field with dynamic text.. numbers, and I want it to be bold.
    Where I'm at in trying to figure out the solution is that bold
    dynamic text needs to be specially embedded.. Well, I follow what
    the help system tells me to do.. and nothing seems to actually
    work. Is there a bug here or something?
    Ok, one last related thing.. I'm following the book on
    "things thou shalt not do" in that I have a good amount of moving
    transparent gradients... well 2 of them actually.. but then other
    transparent stuff all over the place that.. could be pushing things
    a little far. The frame rate's about 14 fps, screen size is only
    about 600x450, I am on an 8 core mac pro with a better then
    standard graphics card... seems to me that I've been able to get
    away with worse on older version of Flash on a G3 power mac bad in
    the day....
    Well when I tried to dynamically load mp3s, that's when
    things started going down hill! now buttons blink, sometimes aren't
    responsive at all.. I'm thinking maybe its that I've over laded the
    player and ought to think pulling back...
    I have on gradient spinning shape thing that I was
    controlling by actionscript using the enter frame thing.. when I
    disabled the code.. well things worked fine again... accept that
    one of my buttons stopped working.. which is mysterious... cause as
    far as I know the code wasn't touching that at all.. so I went back
    to buggy vill, cause at least then my buttons work! (most of the
    time).
    So the only thing I can think to try and do is to try and
    optimize stuff... the projects a bit of a rush job.. so it's "a
    little hack-e" ( well I confess that at my best things are probably
    "a little" hack-e, so this is really bad)
    So I'm thinking of just changing the code over to a timer
    thing, will that make it all groovy? I mean do you think? I seem to
    remember hearing something, somewhere, about the enter frame thing
    as having some issues somewhere...
    What's also kind of strange is that stuff gets strange when
    the mp3s are loaded.. There's only 4 of them, small little
    snippets.. which probably total only about 1MB or so.. so why
    should that make it trouble? Admittedly there's not a lot of
    compression on them, and there stereo but?
    Anyway.. I guess I'm just wondering if any of this sets of
    any red flags for anyone who actually knows what they are doing..
    probably not describing things well enough.. but you know, any help
    is appreciated :)

    same questions, same answers
    I'm new to AS3 too. I know the kind of frustration you face,
    especially when it comes to finding out the how's. So I'm giving
    answers rather than telling people where to look for them (for
    now).

  • Button and 'disjointed' rollover

    I have put a button in the first frame of a movie clip and a
    graphic and the second and third frames. The graphics give the
    appearance that the button is being highlighted in a way different
    than when you actually roll over the button itself. I am doing this
    so that when you rollover a button you can show other buttons with
    the secondary highlights.
    My questiona are, why does my button loose its own behavior
    when I attach a behavior to the movie clip it is contained in?
    How can I get both the 'disjointed' rollover and the buttons
    own rollover to work at the same time?
    my test files
    swf -
    btnTest2.swf
    fla -
    btnTest2.fla

    Thank you for your reply, I think I understand the 'why' now.
    What I mean by the secondary highlights is what I show on the
    right-side of my example. I want to mouse over a button and have
    another button become 'highlighted' in a way that is different than
    the normal button over or down state.
    I'm really trying to solve this. I can make it work if I use
    a movieclip for all of the button 'states' of up, over, down,
    highlight 1, highlight 2 (each in their own frame). I then just add
    all of the 'go to frame 2' kind of code and the 'go to frame 4 in
    this other button' kind of code to the movieclip. The problem is
    that I have 77 of the same 'button' symbol on one page, thats alot
    of code to make mistakes with. And I can't make a symbol with all
    of the code for 'go to frame 2 on mouseover' already in the
    movieclip symbol or I run into the same problem i already have.
    Please help me understand this, it seems like it should be
    simple.

  • Black border around buttons and boxes

      My browser displays a thick black rectangle around buttons and dropboxes. It affects webkit browsers, luakit and surf. This is a stripped down atom desktop. There is gtk 2 2.24, libwebkit 1.8.3, standard xorg, xf86-video-intel 2.20.5 (i915), and cairo, all from the arch repo, and linux-ck-atom 3.5.3 from AUR. I have cairo but no mesa and no compiz. Adding mesa doesn't fix it. But it's possible I removed some important graphic library. Any suggestions how I might fix it?
    Last edited by skeerly (2012-09-02 00:28:22)

    Thanks for the suggestions. The accelerators don't make a difference, neither does today's new intel driver. I've had the same version of cairo since June (1.12.2-1 -> 1.12.2-2) and this problem is recent. As a last resort I'll try to find an old cairo package. But maybe I should look into libwebkit or gtk first.

  • Firefox actualized the new version, but it looks only a black screen and no watch buttons and scroll bars, nothing

    The new version of Firefox dosen't work is only a black screen without buttons and scroll bars. I try re install and uninstall and erase files, but dosen't work.

    Sorry, please disable hardware acceleration as a temporary workaround. This is an incompatibility between Firefox 33 and some older graphics card/chipset drivers. More info: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1025438

  • Hovering mouse over a button and painting

    The following code is what I have to try to paint a rectangle when ever I hover over a button. This rectangle will show a brief description of what the button will do. I'm doing something similar when pressing the help button and hovering over something a description in a rectangle shows up. But I cannot get the paint method to work. Can anyone tell me what I need to do to fix this.

For instance, you shouldn't be calling the paint method directly.
    Also, do you want to be doing this Graphics? Would it be easier to just add a tool tip to your button (i.e., use setToolTipText(...))?
    Good luck.

  • Menu Buttons and remote buttons in DVDSP 4.2.1

    Hi
    Sorry, this is the first real DVDSP project for me that involves menus and chapters. I used template from the program. I deleted the 3 bottom buttons and added text in a different place for play and scene menu. I then drew a button box around the text to make the text a button. Got all the navigation set. However there no highlight on the preview so you don't know which button your pushing. I burnt a DVD to test everything.
    I have COD's FCS tutorials but the DVDSP isn't giving me what I need.
    So what did I do wrong? My scene selection menu is all text buttons, no graphics at all.
    Also when playing the DVD on my TV, the menu on my remote didn't work. I had to push the title button on the remote. Am I supposed to map the remote buttons as well.
    Thanks for any help. Be nice to find a video tutorial with basics like scene selection and laying out an highlighting buttons. I"m totally lost here! ;-(

    Thanks.. I know it use to be there but could not find it in the new version.. will test it out...
    I've put a snap shot of the project at :
    http://gallery.mac.com/herstik#100124
    Can DVSP4 also allow me no next jump to menus???
    I could only ever set it up to next jump through the movies... for a total of 99 tracks...
    After that I need to make menus into movie tracks.. but these are not navigable...
    Cheers
    Thanks for the help...
