Buttons behaving badly

Hello,
I'm seeing some weird "ghosting" or "artifacts" -- not sure what to call it -- from some buttons in my PDF in Acrobat 9.
I created a hidden navigation bar. When activated, a few of the buttons remain on screen after I click a button in the nav bar. When I mouse over these buttons, they are "live."
On other pages, the buttons work fine. I click one, it takes me to a new page, and they disappear.
I created the nav bar in InDesign CS5 and exported to interactive PDF.
Any idea what could be going on?
thanks

Hi there
You have Button objects in Captivate and you have Rollover Slidelet objects in Captivate. Each has a different purpose.
With Buttons, you program each one with an action and when the user clicks, the action is carried out. While it's the default nature of a Button object to pause the slide until the user clicks, clicking the Button will also release the pause and allow the playhead to continue.
With Rollover Slidelets, you have sort of a "Slide within a slide" (hence the term "slidelet"). These may appear when moused over and will disappear when mousing off. OR, you may configure them to remain on the slide for their timed duration when you click. It all depends on what you want it to do.
The bottom line here is that you really need to think through what you want to accomplish. Then choose the objects and construct the slides so they behave as you want.
Cheers... Rick

  • Mouse/cursor behaving badly

Seems to have started recently, maybe with OS software update? My mouse is behaving badly as in it can't seem to capture open Mail windows to rearrange them on my screen - often takes 3 or 4 attemtps to "catch" the window. Also, can't rearrange stacked layers in palettes in Adobe CS4 programs, keeps wanting to bring up dialog boxes for layers instead. Have changed batteries in mouse (Logitech optical wireless) and changed mouse preferences, but seems to be getting worse. Any ideas? Could mouse be getting old? Have had it for quite a few years. Am working on a Mac 2x2.4GHzQuad-CoreIntelXeon, Mac OS 10.6.8.

Bluetooth is turned off. The 'wireless' is a direct wireless and not through the Airport. When I turn Airport on, there are three other networks visible but they are all locked.
But, given your suggestion about the mouse, I just tried the mouse on my laptop - AND IT'S THE MOUSE!! Same behaviour repeated on the laptop...
Thanks. Time to go get a new mouse and lay this one to rest.

  • With or without add-ons, and after removing/reloading Firefox, some sites behave badly, though they're fine with Internet Explorer.

The computer in question is running Vista. With Firefox 8, some websites, e.g. Whitepages.com, livefreept.com, behave badly. Spedifically, they require the user to click on tabs. But the tabs don't appear at all. I upgraded to Firefox 10, to no effect. The sites work fine on this same computer with Internet Explorer, and on both our XP and Windows 7 computers using older older versions of Firefox. All three are using the same Norton Internet Security program, with the same settings. Starting in safe mode, with no add-ons has no effect. Help!

  • G4 MDD power button going bad?

    Hi all -
I'm using a g4 MDD dual 1gig machine. Has been working great for the past few months, till just now. When I power down, the computer won't restart, unless I unplug it. (what?) That's right, the computer works fine, I turn it off and the power button will not turn the computer on unless I physically unplug the machine for a split second. After that it powers right up (at least for now). Prior to unplugging, the power switch does nothing, no lights, no chimes, nothing. It's like there is no power going to the compuer at all.
Does this sound like the power button is going bad or maybe something else? A few months ago I had PRAM/ PMU issues - could they be coming back?
Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I took care of my power-up issue tonight by working on my power supply. Here is the posting I made in another thread:
Here is what I did to troubleshoot my power issue. Your power supply can be serviced and this post offers a couple thoughts and some troubleshooting suggestions. Please read it through to the end. This isn't a cure-all for all G4 Macs, but the steps I followed seem to cover a number of bases and might prove helpful to those who are really frustrated.
I've owned a Mac every year all the way back to 1987 and have never had an issue until now and I am convinced my problem may have been triggered by a power surge or brown-out, which we seem to have experienced a lot of around here lately. This post refers to the Samsung power supply with Apple Part Number 614-0224.
I have a G4 Dual 1.25 MDD I purchased in 2003. I have had a brief issue with powering up my CPU. It wouldn't power up last weekend. I unplugged the power cord, then reconnected it to the machine and it powered up. I reasoned the power cord had become loose, but then last night I couldn't get it to come up at all. Not even a click. No lights.
So I tried all the easiest possible solutions: resetting the PRAM (pulling the battery from the logic board) and resetting the PMU (Power Management Unit). The switch, by the way, is located near where the ATA drives plug in to the logic board. Neither of those two things solved my problem. The CPU would still not power up.
I checked the lithium battery voltage with a voltmeter. It was at 3.6v, so it was still good.
I then decided my issue was probably with the power supply. With the power cord disconnected from the back of the CPU, I pulled the black power connection from the logic board and performed a power supply voltage test following the pin schematic found in this thread:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58561
The +5v trickle voltage found at Pin 9 was not present. I had no other voltage readings on any of the other pins. My issue HAD to be with the power supply.
Tonight I removed the power supply by disconnecting all of the optical drives (I have two DVD burners in this unit), all of the hard drives (three) and all of the logic board connections.
I removed all of the screws from the outer casing of the power supply, including the fat screws attaching the two black fans to the unit and the one long screw in the middle and near the edge of where the two fans are. The casing came right off.
There have been a lot of questions as to whether there are fuses in these power supplies. There has to be some protection for them and I have yet to see any power supply that did not have a fuse or resettable circuit breaker. This power supply was no different...it has a 250W, 8A fuse that is easily accessible and is located on the same side as the male power socket, near the edge of the circuit board. It is hiding under a yellow shield and is right next to a plastic connector.
Bingo! My fuse was blown. Many glass fuses will show some sort of blackness and mine did, as well as being able to see the actual glob of metal where the fuse burst.
What caused a fuse to blow will be different for each machine. I believe in my case it suffered from a power surge. There were no visible signs of burns from arcing, popped capacitors, shorts or bad chips. The board was completely clean, which tells me the issue was near the power source. The fuse may also have been on the verge of popping when I unplugged and reconnected the power cord.
Everything's speculation, but replacing the fuse did the trick in my case and I saved myself time and about $150 (on average for a used PS on eBay). I picked up a second fuse to tape to the inside of the CPU, near the power supply, so I will have a backup fuse if I need it in the future. I may also have a drive that is going bad, or I may have too many drives operating off one supply. My Mac's been configured like this for about five years now. I will replace at least two drives with new, larger capacity drives. I keep my video and digital image files on separate drives, but have a third drive I can blow out. That surely will help prolong the life of my power supply.
While I had the computer apart I gave it a good vacuum and a little air can action. Dust can aid overheating and defeat the purpose of good airflow from fans.
    Hope this helps.

  • Widgets Behaving badly on Leopard

Upgraded MacBook Pro to Leopard, and everything seems good except my dashboard widgets. "Say Cheese" displays part of its border shifted down too far and part of it transparent. "rpncalc" is completely transparent except for the buttons, which are in the wrong location and some of them are clipped. Sudoku widget displays OK, but each key must be pressed twice to take effect.
I tried removing the preferences files for the widgets, and moving them to trash and reinstalling, but same results. Same widgets work fine on my 13" Macbook.

Is it only some widgets that have this problem? And are they Apple widgets or 3rd party widgets?
I would suspect that they are 3rd party, not Apple, and the problem is hardware related, but not your problem - the widgets are not fully compliant with your MBP.
If you post a link to one of those bad widgets I will see what it does on this box. It's a Santa Rosa 3,1 from late last year. 64 bit, of course and completely up to date.

  • Button for Badi Script in input schdule

    Hi,
Is there any way , where i can add Button for my Script in the input schedule.(BPC 7.0)
    Regards,
    Sanjeev Kumar

    Hi Sanjeev,
There are MNU commands to call a DM package from input schedules. But for that, you need to first create DM on top of the script logic and then the macro can be called from a button embedded into the input schedule.
However, I am little confused with the subject matter. Are you talking about BADI. Then may be more approprate forum would have been the BPC for NW platform. Having said that the approach will still remain the same. You can create script logic and call your BADI. The script logic should be linked to a process chain and the process chain to a DM package. Then you can use MNU command to call your DM package from the input schedule.
    Hope this helps.

  • SDP94 Hide Buttons with Badi /SAPAPO/SDP_INTERACTmethod FCODES_EXCLUDE

    Hello,
The Promotion Planning in transaction SDP94 contains buttons for removing objects from the Promotion (fcode PM_CUT and fcode PM_CUT_ALL).
Problem: The user should not be allowed to add or remove objects (materials) to the promotion.
It works to remove the buttons for assigning objects (PROM_OBJT or PROM_MOBJT) but it ist not possible to remove the buttons for removing the objects (fcode PM_CUT or PM_CUT_ALL).
    I tried it with BadI /SAPAPO/SDP_INTERACTmethod FCODES_EXCLUDE
    can anyone help me? Thanks
    bernhard

    hello,
    thanks for your answer,
with the authorization object C_APO_PROM i can only prevent a user completely from changing a promotion. But the goal is that the user can plan data in the promotion, but he should not be allowed to add or remove objects (materials).
Therefore the only thing i want to do is setting some buttons inactive.
it is possible to set the buttons for adding objects inactive, but ist ist not possible to set the buttons for removing (PM_CUT) inactive.
    any ideas?

  • CS3/CS4 ComboBox behaving badly-

I’ve got a very simple comboBox with 3 hardcoded choices, “No Subtitles”, “English Subtitles”, “Spanish Subtitles”, no prompt text.
Problem 1: My first choice for placement of the comboBox would be near the bottom of the stage. When the stage is standard size this works fine but if the stage is scaled or if full screen is invoked the comboBox opens down, off screen, and unusable.
Problem 2: As a work-around for problem 1 I decide to create a vertical control panel with the comboBox placed far enough from the bottom of the stage that the drop down would always be on stage. This intruded into the live area more than I liked so I made the control block a movie clip that slides in on a hotspot rollover and slides out on rollout. Works fine for my VCR controls which are simple buttons but the comboBox suddenly forces display of a blank prompt line and clicking the comboBox fires a rollout event to the parent mc, causing everything but the list component of the comboBox to slide out. Is it a really bad idea to move a comboBox?

  • ITunes 8 behaves badly on second monitor

Strange problem that I have noticed on my MacPro 2.66. I have two 22" LCDs running on my MacPro with 4GB of RAM and 10.5.5. If I try move the iTunes window on right LCD by grabbing the header bar and dragging the screen will freeze for about 30 seconds. The window will eventually move but the screen will not redraw. If I move the iTunes window to the other LCD it works fine. This only affects iTunes not any other panels on the right LCD. Quitting iTunes and restarting doesn't solve the problem. I did rebuild permissions after I upgraded to 10.5.5.
Can I just restore iTunes 7 from my Time Machine back-up?

kinu wrote:No way with Twinview (or I don't know how to do it). I will try with xrandr.
Yeah, seems to be a limitation of the Nvidia GUI, but it seems that it's possible [and necessary] to configure it with Xorg's configuration files if you want more freedom to position your monitors.
Since some extra configuration is needed with the Nvidia driver, xrandr alone might not be ideal in your situation. [I mentioned it before since I never needed to mess with my Xorg configuration, and an .xprofile script based around xrandr works better with my Intel-based laptop. ]
Xorg's config files seem like a better choice for you, and if you need to change monitor layouts on the fly, xrandr should still work once you have a good Xorg configuration. If you choose to go this route, you'll probably find this section of the Xorg wiki page very useful: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xorg#Nvidia_2
Since you'd need to specify a position for your second monitor to workaround this, you'd need to use a line like this, instead of the "RightOf" one in the example configuration: ' Screen       1 "Screen1" x y ' where x,y is the location of the upper left corner of that display.
[If a configuration file already exists, make sure you create a backup of it first. Worst-case scenario, a bad config file will prevent X from starting, and you could just restore the backup from the command-line.]
I also discovered that offsetting it by the exact height of your panel seems to cause problems on your primary monitor [at least with the latest version of the XFCE panel]. Upon rebooting, windows would not respect my panels, and instead would go underneath them when maximized. Although, by offsetting my second monitor by a little more [1920x280 instead of 1920x284], both monitors allow windows to maximize correctly, so if you run into the same problem, something like that should fix it.

  • Mail behaving badly

    Hi all,
my mail account will not recieve mail but can send, when I hook up my old windows computer with the same mail settings the mail comes thru to that computer.
the mail has been working fine on the Mac but not now, I tried to send a large file it may be the cause ,who knows?
I have reinstalled 10.5 to no avail.
Can anyone help (I'm not too techi so go easy.
    Many thanks,
    John
(i have looked at past questions on this and implemented some of the solutions)

    Hi John,
Firstly, 'Repair Permissions' using Disk Utility, and restart.
    Rebuild your mailbox - Menu/Mailbox/Rebuild.
Are you using Synchronization in System Preferences/MobileMe? If so, try turning it off. Also check that your computer appears under the 'Advanced...' button.
If all else fails, then move the 'Mail' folder in ~/Library/Mail to your Desktop (do NOT delete it at this stage). Also, move 'com.apple.mail.plist' from ~/Library/Preferences/ to your Desktop. You will need to setup your mailbox again when you open Mail - follow the default setup procedure and setup your mailbox as an IMAP account - it will synchronize/download the emails you have stored on the server if you have been saving your data there.
Test Mail and if it is OK, then you can import whatever data you have in the old Mail folder on your Desktop - Menu/File/Import Mailboxes/Mail for Mac OS X and navigate to the Mail folder on the Desktop, follow onscreen instructions.

  • Safari 3 Leapard behaving badly

    hello
I am somewhat old on PCs but new to APPLE so please bare with me. I just have my first Apple Imac and used to love it. Installed Leapard without a glitch, so I thought.
Problem: I have Safari 3 open and Mail open and when I click on certain links in my mail Safari 3 jumps about the screen. Its annoying, is it just a apple bug thing or can it be fixed. Called Apple and according to one rude dude there's not a problem. is anyone else out there having the same problem. PREFERENCES is already set to open a new tab instead of default open to a window. Other than that I dont know what to do to calm this safari down.
please help with suggestions to [email protected] just in case I cant remember how I got to this forum
    thanks so much
    mk

Go into your *System Preferences* and check your *mouse button settings*. It may be that you are accidentally pushing a button that is set to activate Expose or something? I know the side buttons are a problem for me. Come to think of it I think the track ball is set to Expose by default and that gave me problems. If thats what it is I would just turn off whatever button it is that is giving you the problem.
_System Preferences_ should be in your Dock but if not go to your _Applications folder_ and you will find it there.
The other possibility is that you are simply clicking on links and it is opening them in the browser. Also if you have Safari set to a different space in Spaces it will jump to the other desktop. To check that go to Spaces in the Dock or open _System Preferences_ and go to _Expose & Spaces_ and click on the _Spaces button at the top_ to set your apps to be in the same space or to disable Spaces.
