Buzzing in my Megaworks THX650

Hello all!
Recently I have noticed that my sound system has developed a buzzing sound, and have no idea when it happened. I have not moved or changed my setup in years, so am fairly certain that it is something internal.
Here is what I have tried:
-Moved the cord to a different outlet
-Tried different power cords
-Unplugged wires going to computer
-Unplugged all other speakers
What I have concluded is that it can't be anything inside my computer tower, whereas it does it when it'ss unplugged. The noise is originating from the Sub unit, and I believe just bleeding into all the other speakers? (although it very well may just be the sub itself). Does anyone know what it may be or how to fix it's? It looks like my system was a joint effort between Creative and Cambridge Soundworks, and now neither of them want to claim it, and I can't find replacement parts anywhere on the internet. Googling the model number only comes up with a Nokia phone. Any help would be great, and thank you for your time

My iPhone 5 is a week old and yesterday I started to notice the same buzzing noise (and really a vibration on my ear) occasionally while on a phone call.  I have noticed  no other issues with the phone, but I agree that for a new device this is quite annoying.  When time allows I plan on making a trip to the Apple store to see if this is a widely reported issue and if there is anything that can be done about it.  In the mean time if anyone gets an answer please share with the group.  I have seen reports of this issue on the iPhone 4s so perhaps it is just one of those quirky issues that we will have to live with if we are committed to the iPhone.  BTW, I am a new Apple convert from the Galaxy S technology and hope that I don't regret the switch.

  • [Megaworks 5.1 THX 550] Request for help with broken sub!

    Help!
Just the other day my Megaworks began producing a loud low level buzz when switched on they had been working fine the previous day, but when I switched them on the next day instantly the made this unbearable low level noise.
After much investigation I discovered that the centre and sub channels seem to be screwed in the sub itself. Trying various cable/soundcard/speaker combinations verified that it is indeed the sub itself at fault, rather than any other component.
The current situation is that any activity on the sub channel will produce an intolerable sound which plays at a volume ignorant of the settings on the volume control. Nothing plays through the centre speaker at all any more. Unplugging the sub/centre channel fixes the problem sometimes, but often it reappears after a short time even with the channel unplugged. Once the sound starts the only way to stop it is to power down the speakers (via the remote or via the power switch) or plug in the headphones. Also using the volume control causes audible 'clicks' to be heard, which were not there previously.
Note that the headphone pass-through on the remote still functions perfectly (volume control at well), but I assume that is on entirely different circuitry.
My best guess is that some electricity spike (when switching on the unit) fried a component, or perhaps the extreme cold we've had here messed it up, but I aint no expert!
    Questions then:
    1. Given it'ss out of warranty, does anyone have any suggestions as to what could be the cause. Or rather what I could do to fix it's (I'm fairly handy with a soldering iron, and happy to get my hands dirty!)
    2. Otherwise what are the chances of a repair shop being able to do anything with it's Are there such things as Creative approved repair shops (in Scotland)? Would it likely cost a packet?
    3. Failing that, is it possible to purchase only a sub as a spare? I don't have the money right now to replace the whole lot with something similarly spec'd but may be able to stretch to a spare.
I know it'ss a bit of me clutching at straws here, but any help/suggestions gratefully received! I so don't want to lose my pride and joy and have to make do with some poor alternative.
(Apologies for the length of the post I wanted to try and cover all bases!)

yes u can i think.. should b alright.. you have a good amp man!

  • Hiss, hissing sound in speaker sets like the MegaWorks 550

Over the years, I noticed that my MegaWorks 550 started hissing more and more. For anyone interested, i want to share my quest to find the cause.
First of all, i looked on this forums. There were several useful posts.
    http://forums.creative.com/t5/Speake...ion/m-p/169575
    http://forums.creative.com/t5/Speake...xed/m-p/184299
Based on these, I mailed customer service for some more information. Their mails were annoyingly useless. On top of that, they actually removed above mentioned posts from their forums! Here's a small summary of the mail conversation with customer support. It's so stupid, that it's actually fun to read:
    ME:
Dear Creative, [...] my MegaWorks 550 [...] has a clearly audible hiss. [...] This hiss is also present when no inputs are connected and independent of volume level. The level of hiss is equal on all five sattelite speaker connections, even when objectively measured with an oscilloscope. [...] I know the MegaWorks 550 is farbeyond the warranty, but i am a trained technician and capable of replacing any part. Could you please give a hint as to what causes this hiss? Kind regards [...]
    CREATIVE:
[...] To reduce static or buzzing noise from speakers, avoid placing speaker cables next to computer monitors, TV, an AC adapter, or any chargers for MP3 players or cell phones, etc. These devices have a strong field, which may interfere with speakers.
    Hissing Sound http://support.creative.com/kb/showa...aspx?sid=64810 [...]
(duh, i already mentioned that it is independent of any inputs and also present with nothing connected)
    ME:
[...]Dear Creative, Thank you for your answer. I read the support solution you pointed to, and i also read about eight different threads about this on your forum, suggesting several causes. I've tested the 550 in an electromagnetic Farady cage and with no inputs attached. The hiss remains constant on each of the five outputs and independent of the volume level.
It must be a problem in the electrical circuit. Since this is a very prevalent problem, I hope there's a technician at Creative who know the cause. It would be great if they could explain which capacitors or connections typically need to be replaced or resoldered to remove the hiss.
I'm, of course, very aware that the warranty of the 550 is expired, i would just really appreciate some hints on how to fix it myself. It would be friendly to the environment, to my wallet and to your reputation! [...]

    ME:
    Dear Creative,
I would expect a €450,- speaker set like the Megaworks 550 to last longer than the three years it did before it started hissing. However, it's beyond the warranty period, so i'm not asking for any official warranty. But surely the least Creative could do, is help me fix it myself.
I just need to know which capacitors to replace to fix it, probably somewhere in the power supply. I know that a lot of sets were sent back because of the issue, so surely there is a technician from Creative that can pinpoint the cause. PLEASE!
    CREATIVE:
Thank you for getting back to us.
I'm really sorry but currently we don't provide any out of warranty repairment services.
We're unable to help you in this situation.

    ME:
    Dear Creative,
I'm not asking for a repair service. I want to fix it myself. I know that a lot of people sent their Megaworks 550 back because of this issue, so there are people within creative who know what causes it. Please, I just need to know which capacitor to replace. I wont contact you after that, even if the repair goes wrong or anything.

Thank you for contacting Creative Labs.

We apologize if this is not accommodating your need and your cooperation in this regard is appreciated.
So... i opened the case and did some more experiments. I used a variable voltage. The hiss was indeed dependent on the voltage. Since it was not dependent on inputs or volume level and present on all five speaker outputs, i came to the following
    CONCLUSIONS:
    - the hiss is most likely caused by the final stage of the power supply unit
    - specifically: decay of one or more of the 10 capacitors in there
    - this is caused by creative using capacitors of a barely sufficient capacity (too cheap). Once they decay the become insufficient.
    - communicating with the customer service is a fun, but not very rational process
Perhaps i'll replace the capacitors. If i do, i might share pictures and keep you updated. Please respond if there's anyone out there who would appreciate that.

  • Buzzing sound appeared again- hp pavilion ultrabook 14-b006sa

hp pavilion ultrabook 14-b006sa- windows 8
I ve tried the Troubleshooting tool in Windows 8,but there each speaker seems to work properly.
I have instablished the most recent Audio driver update from HP, 'IDT High-Definition (HD) Audio Driver', as you had told me few months ago, but the problem still exists. i had followed as well the steps on the document 'No Sound from Speakers (Windows 8)' but did not help.
    Please Help!!!!!!
    Thank you

Hi kp161. I have reviewed your Previous Thread. If the basic troubleshooting has not produced a permanent resolution I will need more information. You mentioned that the buzzing sound appears from various sources. I want to use YouTube as our starting point. Find a video that you get the buzzing sound in, and note the time in the video where the sound occurs. If you play it again, does the buzz happen at the same point again? Does it happen through the speakers? Does it happen through headphones?
    Let me know.

  • Ultrabook/Notebook freezing and making loud buzzing noise

I just received via UPS a HP Pavilion 11 x2 PC 11-h010nr for my daughter for Christmas.  I decided to let her open it as her one before Christmas present and I am glad I did.  She went into xbox music to listen to her new beats audio sound.  On about the 3rd song the loudest annoying buzzing noise came out of the screen portion and the screen was frozen (she had it detached from the keyboard).  She hit the power button and the noise stopped.  She got back into xbox music and about the 2nd song this time it did it again.  She started to cry and very upset because she thought it was broke and would take a very long time for us to get it fixed and she gets a replacement.  Needless to say her Christmas has just turned into a really bad Christmas.  Also today I brought the notebook with me to work to see if the problem continues and as I was putting the song on Pause/Play the noise occured, the screen did not freeze but the noise did occur.

    Hello mickeymom44,
The notebook would still be covered by the  warranty, I recommend calling our technical support at 800-474-6836. If you live outside the US/Canada Region please click the link below to get the support number for your region. http://www.hp.com/cgi-bin/hpsupport/index.pl

  • Audio problem; buzzing noise (HP Spectre XT TouchSmart 15-4011nr)

Hi, I recently bought an HP Spectre XT TouchSmart 15-4011nr Ultrabook. I'm getting this annoying buzzing noise while listening to music or streaming movies. The store change my laptop for another one and after a few minutes listening I got the same behaviour on the new (same model) laptop. Is this a model problem? Is there anyone with the same problem?

Solution found for me.  First, a little background.   I have a HP Spectre XT Touchsmart 15-4010NR and also have the same annoying  buzzing noise.  Usually lasts less than a second and is intermittent.  Counted it 13 times in four minutes of a YouTube audio file.  Time between the buzzes varies significantly ranging from a second or two to over a minute.  Once during the four minutes the audio cut out completely for less than a second.  My solution, I unplugged the AC adapter.  No more problem whatsoever as long as I'm on the battery.  Tried this multiple times, plugging the AC back in for a few minutes, then the same on battery.  The result, the buzzing occurs only when the AC is plugged in, and does not occur at all when on battery power.  The AC power adapter provides power and charges the battery normally.  Not sure what to conclude from this.  I suppose the AC power adapter or cord could have an issue.  Not going to go out and buy another one to test whether this is the case.  It's an inconvenience, but I'll just unplug the AC power when listening to audio.  If I listened to long recordings or movies this could become a real issue.  I'd be curious to know if it's a hardware problem, or something I could adjust in the settings on the computer, or something else like a grounding issue.   Interested if others can confirm my findings and expand on them.  out

  • I tried to sync my iPhone 4S to new work laptop and it keeps buzzing, won't sync

I just got a new Dell laptop for work and installed iTunes.  When I hooked up my iPhone 4S to my laptop, Windows first showed that it was installing some driver and then iTunes opened, and then my phone just kept repeat buzzing.  I noticed the battery icon & bluetooth icon at the top right of phone screen kept flickering.  I opened Control Panel-Device Manager-Bluetooth Devices and a Bluetooth Mobile Device icon would pop up and then disappear repeatedly.
I tried disabling the Bluetooth driver, and then disconnected and re-connected my phone - iTunes opened up again but I still got the repeat buzzing, and an error message that iTunes could not connect to phone.
I still have my old laptop and it connects and syncs my phone no problem.
Not sure what is the problem or what to do next?
I'm guessing my IT dept will just tell me that they don't support iTunes and that I'm on my own with this issue.

    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3694#error29
    Error 20, 21, 23, 26, 28, 29, 34, 36, 37, 40
These errors typically occur when security software interferes with the restore and update process. Use the steps to troubleshoot security software issues to resolve this issue. In rare cases, these errors may be a hardware issue. If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service.
Also, check your hosts file to verify that it's not blocking iTunes from communicating with the update server. See the steps under the heading "Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > Mac OS X > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store." If you have software used to perform unauthorized modifications to the iOS device, uninstall this software prior to editing the hosts file to prevent that software from automatically modifying the hosts file again on restart.

My IPhone4 keeps buzzing randomly and now it wont even charge !! Please "HELP"
    Info:
    IPhone 4
    Version : 5.1
I was having this problem with the vibration IPhone keeps vibrating randomly with no notification don't know what's the problem with it !!
And currently when I tried to charge it it wont charge I tried to do some research about this issue and have read some of the same problem
here in the forum with same issue and done almost everything changed the cable , core , usb did the hard reset still nothing !!!
Any idea would be appreciated . Thanks
    Updated:
I discovered that its not a battery issue
The reason is that it's chargeable while the phone is switched off completely !
after a while you can see the battery charge is full 100%
but when it's switched on the phone wont charge or recognized
the cable from wall charger or usb so I the ITunes won't sync or see the device !
I think its something with the software !
I tried to update to IOS 5.1.1  but after downloading
    it wont install the new update I got this message;
    "Unable to Install Update"
An error occurred installing IOS 5.1.1
So that only chance which I think it might hwlp solving the problem is dead now
I really have no idea what to do other than taking this phone to Apple

OK folks I started my deep research about this issue ( MY problem )
Don't know if some one out there is even got similar issue
The battery is charging well while my phone is switched off so last night
my Iphone runs out of charge completely 0% so I plugged the cable
and switch it on after a while and all the sudden it shows that the battery
is charging while its switched on !!
If you want to do this you have to plug the charging cable first then turn off
your Iphone and wait for a while then  turn it back on ( sipmle off ) no need
for the (Hard) Reset or recovery mode / DFU mode .
Just as a normal way to of switching off your Iphone by
Holding down the sleep/wake button at the top right-hand corner of the iPhone for a few seconds.
This will bring up a screen asking you to run the slider across the screen to turn off the iPhone.
Wait few seconds and repeat that with holding that same sleep/wake button at the top right-hand corner for like a Sec and it will turn on , Then you can
see that your phone is charging while its on !
If you unplug your charging cable this will ruin the whole plan and if you
you plug it again it wont show anything and will not be able to charge
while its on and you have to repeat that procedure.
Now we are sure that out Dock and Charging Port and battery are working fine , So whats the problem here and why my PC wont detect my Iphone ??
Well I assume its from a part called ( PMU IC ) Power Management Unit IC
    http://www.buyforapple.com/product_images/j/iphone4_power_management_un__72870.j pg
    Check this out :
    http://youtu.be/MJPKuLy7XQQ
So I think my main problem is from that tiny part that makes all that
problem I have now so I have to replace it first just to make sure before
replacing any other parts so this is the start I hope this was the problem
    that caused all this !!!
If you have any similar issue to mine I really appreciate any advice ,
    suggestions regarding this matter .
    Thanks for reading
    Have a great time

  • Won't turn on, flashing light, loud buzzing when I try to charge it?

My ipod died in April and I got a replacement from the apple store as it was still (just!) under warranty. I woke up in the middle of the night last night because my ipod was flashing - not on and off, just a blank flashing light. I tried turning it on and off but it didn't work and didn't even turn on.
When I got up today the flashing had stopped. I tried charging it but as soon as I plugged in the lead from my computer it started making a really loud buzzing noise. I don't mean the whirring/clicking noise that seems to be common enough when they die (that's what happened my last one, but it would turn on and display the battery with exclamation mark), but a real buzzing sound.
It started flashing again too after being plugged in for less than a minute. I left it plugged in for a while but the noise was driving me crazy so I've unplugged it now.
Has anyone come across this problem before? I haven't dropped it or had it near liquids etc, I've been treating it like a newborn baby since the last one died! I've googled and tried searching apple support but I haven't come across anything similar. Any help would be great, thanks!

If you connected it to both your computer's USB port and a USB power adapter on a wall outlet, I think you've ruled out a problem with the power source.  Since you at least get the red light, the USB docking cable is probably OK.
So, if it's not the USB port or the docking cable, the cause is likely to be on the shuffle.  It may be the battery or a problem on the logic board.  If it was just the battery, I think it would still appear in iTunes on the computer (or at least be recognized by the system).
(If this shuffle is less than one year from purchase date, it is under warranty.)

  • How do I stop my MacBook Pro from buzzing?

My MacBook Pro occasionally makes these weird buzzing/clicking noises even when it isn't on. After awhile, it usually stops but sometimes it takes longer to stop. It sounds like it's coming from the vent thing connecting the keyboard to the screen. Is there any way that I can stop this from happening? What should I do? Thanks!!!

  • Creative Megaworks 250D 2.1 THX: How can I find a new remote control & spare satellite(s)?

    Hi all,
For years, we have owned and used one remarkable speaker set from Creative:
The Creative Megaworks (Cambridge Soundworks) 250D 2.1 THX-certified speakers!
I have no complaints. The sound this small 2.1 set produces is amazing! The 300 watts (RMS) power can shake the whole house - x50W + 2x75W are more than enough! Movies, music, games, everything sounds great - bass is deep and clear, mid-range is good, high frequences are clear! There's no noise and no distortion (I have connected the system to an SPDIF digital connector on my sound card), the Signal-to-Noise ratio is 99 dB, and the frequency response of the set is extremely good, too!
But I have a problem, now. We have broken, by accident, one of the satellites. Now I have only one satellite, and the bass/amplifier with the remote control... Looks like a . system... ;-)
This system was a present for us. Maybe we were lucky, but I am very happy with the build quality of this Creative spaker set. Until we have broken one of the satellites ourselves, yesterday, everything was OK, and the sound it produced was amazing all these years...
I tried to contact a Creative representative, asking if we can maybe order one (or two) spare satellites fot this set, but the only reply (up to now) was:
"You are out of warranty period. Buy a new speaker set."
    Well, we could, I guess...
    But:
First: Creative does not have (at present) a similar model, 2.1, THX certified, with digital (SPDIF input), 300W+ RMS, 99 dB Signal-to-Noise.
Second, to throw away such an amazing set just because there's one satellite broken? That would be such pity! :-(
I'd like to buy one (or two) new 250D satellites. I was thinking even that, in the worst case, I can maybe try to order 2 satellites from a Creative Gigaworks S750 set. They have very similar characteristics, 70W rms power, 8 ohms, so maybe this'll work. I was trying to check today if two satellites can be ordered, but with no luck up to now... :-(
Does anyone have any similar experience? What do you do if you accidentally have broken up one satellite from a 2./5./7. expensi've speaker set? Should you throw away the whole set? Try to find similar satellites?
I hope Creative support will help, but I don't have much hope, at present...
Does anyone have experience connecting an S750 satellite to a 250D system? Can I expect any problems? Or it'll work?
    Finally, just one more question:
    The remote control.
Currently, the remote control unit on our 250D model works OK. But I am a bit worried, if anything happens, that the speaker set can become useless. So I'd like to order one spare new remote control for this model, just in case. Can someone help?
Maybe, even if this speaker set is not produced anymore, a new remote control can be ordered from Creative?
I'd really like to make these 250D speakers produce great sound again!? I am a big Creative fan and Creative 250D 2.1 THX is one of the best sound systems I have ever owned (or heard) and I'd like to do everyting to fix things up...
    Thanks for all the help!
    Cheers! :-)
PS The satellites of the 250D look very much like these. But these Cambridge Soundworks satellites are more powerful (20W RMS); I was even thinking to order a pair of them, but not sure if they'll fit well. Maybe a pair of S750 satellites (70W RMS) is a better idea? But in any case, if I can find a new pair of satellites, what to do with the remote control?... Please, help!

After exchanging several messages with official Creative Support, I feel a bit disappointed... For years, I have believed that Creative is a company that makes amazing audio products. They probably still do, but now that I am a customer who owns an expensive product of theirs, but with expired warranty, they don't want even to suggest a solution that can work for both parties!
Why is Creative Support so un-supportive? :-( I am still a Creative customer, after all, right?
My communication with Support went nowhere. After it was established that our 250D system is out of warranty period (it is only 2 years, btw), they refused to sell me a replacement satellite (even if they still may have some left in stock, for such cases)!
Finally, I found S700 satellites on ebay and I hope that 2 of them will fit well with the 250D system. Impedance of 250D satellites is 8 ohms (S700 satellites are 8 ohms, too), power is almost the same (250D satellites are 75W rms, and S700 are 70W rms), Signal-to-Noise of both systems is 99 dB, and frequency response is similar, too (250D satellites should be around 50Hz - 8 kHz, I think, and S700 should be around 50Hz - 20 kHz).
Well, my final 'point of worry' was that if anything happens with the remote control, we won't be able to switch on/off the system, even if the sub/amplifier works. So, I tried to ask Support just to sell me one new remote control, if they can. To sell, not to give for free, mind this! ;-)
    They refused!
My e-mails are either left un-answered, or the only kind of reply I get is 'We can offer you 10% off our new products'. Well, I don't want to buy a whole new expensi've system, if I can just get 1-2 replacement parts for my old one, and have it working for years! :-)
(Imagine you buy an expensive DSLR camera, you break the LCD screen, and imagine how Canon or Nikon refuse to sell you a replacement LCD, because you're out of warranty! I can't imagine that!)
Well, with Creative it looks like this works only this way: Buy a new system. While speaker system is within its warranty period, Creative may replace defecti've and/or broken parts. Once system is out of warranty period, you can simply throw the system away, as Creative will not sell you replacement parts, no matter how politely you ask (and no matter if such parts are available at Creative or not)!
I hope I will be able to use our 250D system for some more time (after the satellites arrive). I don't know how I can find a new remote control, just to be on the safe side.
And I am not sure I will buy Creative product next time. I will carefully look around and maybe will pick up a product from a company which will offer me not only warranty support, but out-of-warranty support, too. That would be wise.
I like how the high-end Creative speaker systems sound. I simply cannot understand how this company can be successful, if they make such great products, but then refuse to help its customers, when they have problems... :-(

  • Crackling, Popping, Buzzing Noises in Audio

Recently (within the past week) my audio has started to crack, skip, pop, buzz, and all sorts of things. I have a Pavilion g6 1d08dx laptop with Windows 7 64-Bit, 4 GB RAM, and it's about 2 years old now, but I recently re-installed the OS, about 2 or 3 weeks ago after my old HDD failed.
I notice when I hit the wifi switch, the latency gets really bad to the point where it is just static-like buzzing and crackling, whether I'm turning it on or off. I've tried to reinstall the driver (IDT High Definition Audio), and updating it, but so far nothing. If it helps, there's two other audio drivers under that section- Intel Display Audio and Bluetooth Hands-Free audio.
Perhaps an update to different drivers is available. What free software could I get to check this?
    Thank you.

    Can anyone help?
