I am having the same problem I have over 11.5 GB of .tmp files, many 1000s. Here is a thread I have found with some more info:

That thread is almost a year old so I'm not holding out hope for a fix from apple. I'm going to try deleting them and see how it goes...

I have experienced this as well. Usually it is something simple in the metadata that iTunes recognizes as different. Try selecting all the songs at once in that album and get info on multiple tracks. At that point you can mark them as part of a compilation. The article below walks you through this process.

If downloading, wouldn't the tracks eventually exceed my storage capacity on the iPad since my iTunes library is way bigger? Do i need to delets songs off the iPad eventually?

It is downloaded, and yes it takes up space and can eventually fill up your iPad. It's supposed to delete older tracks as the music app plays new ones and space gets low, but other apps won't delete songs and free up the space. So if you were going to say use the camera app and it was full of music you would have to delete songs manually.

You may have installed the "VSearch" trojan, perhaps under a different name. Remove it as follows.
Malware is constantly changing to get around the defenses against it. The instructions in this comment are valid as of now, as far as I know. They won't necessarily be valid in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for more recent discussions or start a new one.
Back up all data before proceeding.
Step 1
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
/Library/LaunchAgents/com.vsearch.agent.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
          Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "com.vsearch.agent.plist" selected. Drag the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password.
Repeat with each of these lines:

You may be wondering why you didn't get a warning from Gatekeeper about installing software from an unknown developer, as you should have. If I recall correcrly, you are trying to download Palm Desktop 4.2.1 Rev A for Mac OS X. That installer uses the old Stuff It file compression utility, which no longer works on Mac OS X.

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

I am getting an error message that syncing failed to start. Any ideas why. The ipad is working fine.

Then I tried to download and install them again but it kept saying the old itunes could not be removed.
(1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):

(2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
(3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
(4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
(5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

If the Reset Ian mentioned doesn't work...
Shut down and restart the Mail app...
- From any Home Screen, double tap the home button to bring up the Recents List
- Tap and hold any icon in this list until they wiggle
- Press the red to delete the Mail app from this list.
- Press the home button twice when done.
- Restart the Mail app

No other problems elsewhere, either in Adobe or Word or my entire computer for that matter. Very strange glitch. Ran several deep virus checks - nothing. Booted and re-booted. Entered different ways into Adobe, no help. Thought about my keyboard (wireless of course) might be doing it, but in other web-sites and in WORD - no problems.
I use WINDOWS 8.1. Also doubled checked my up-date status. Is there a chance that this is a continuing problem that is still being encountered from the last major Adobe up-date? Use Adobe for years with never a problem until the latest up-date. Parting thought, maybe just my batteries in my keyboard are getting low, or a really low threshold virus of some sort, no idea. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Suddenly in the last 10 days, my iPod Touch playlists don't show up on the iPod unless plugged into iTunes and only under the device section of iTunes. When I try to play a song on my iPod a different song from the library comes up and plays. It is happening via "shuffle" in a playlist. Always two different songs within the playlist. You can see the next song on the screen that should, theoretically, be playing...but nothing happens. Even when you push "play" on the remote, it doesn't receive the command.
I reset, then restored ATV. Now, it doesn't limit itself to two songs, but does stop after a few. The more trial and error I do, the more I believe the problem is with Homesharing in iTunes. If I turn off Homeshare, then turn it back on, a couple more songs will play in the playlist. I have shut down iTunes, restarted computer, completed updates, but nothing seems to change it.
It used to play fine for hours on end, but has now found this glitch.
