Hello!
Unfortunately my loved C3-01 got killed by a car - now I've got a C3-01.5 (was the only one in Vienna!).
When starting my phone the first time, I got to some moment a question, if I wish my phone to be always connected. I don't know anymore, which program that was - I think, it was some Nokia firmware. And due to my clicking-through I activated that feature.
I want to deactivate this, but I cannot find the option - where can I find it - it empties my phone akku...

First I did a complete backup.
Then I did a small reset of the system settings, which didn't change anything.
Then I did a full reset of the system setting, and the problem was solved in the first moment.
And then I encountered what you have proposed: When creating a mail account for the first time, the Mail program asks, if you like to check for new mails. "OK" is the default answer.
This setting is not available in the Mail program, but it is hidden in the settings for each mail account.
There you can choose "manual check", "quick check" and "full check" - and also, if Mail shall remind you on new mails and a check time intervall.
Funny thing: I you activate this feature, C3-01 goes online immediately and switches between WLAN und UMTS as possible - without any question, even if you set it! (that's important!)
If you deactivate this feature again and close the Mail program, the feature stays active until you do a full restart.
(this is IMHO a medium software bug)

A warning check your phone despite my Nokia maps being set as not to go online it does frequently .
Find place = search offline but then must go online as i get data charges .
Second load map and a location leave on the desk for two hours result its gone online .
Does not appear to be annother app as it only goes online if nokia maps are open and does not go online if any of my other mapping products are used .
Settings in map are
INTERNET = Offline
NETWORK DESTINATION = WeFi
TRAFFIC INFO UPDATE = Manual
Phone has assisted GPS off
Two points one is that maps dont always connect to the internet and two the only possible maybe connections i see in map is Settings Navigation Safety Spot Warner = On Maps Improvement = On .
Anybody else getting data charges for maps that you believe are in offline mode.

Thanks for the welcome. This is a brand new phone recieved today. I had it online today at work but that was using the WLAN. I see now that it was trying to use that same connection, so I have created a new access point by adding a name to "Packet Data" and set it to priority 1 , it now looks like its trying to connect by still fails to connect. I see there are settings but I'm not sure what they should be, username, password etc, it hasnt asked me for any. I thought that the phone would come pre-setup for data use as per my new contract and be able to go online under its own steam. Help is greatly appreciated

N97 can no longer connect to ovi store via wlan??

Hi there since the recent update on the N97 i have not been able to connect to the ovi.store via wlan. before the update i was always asked if i wanted to connect via contract wap of my wireless network. I have gone all through the settings and theres no longer the option to "always ask" for connecting. Anyone have this problem? or have a work around for me please as its doing my head in lol.
Also another gay issue my ring tone keep reverting back to the gay nokia tune is there anyway to stop this to???

Wait for the server to come back. If the server is down, then there is nothing you can do about it, and you must wait for apple to get the server back up and running.

Connection between iPad2 and AV-Receiver via WLan

I want to connect my iPad via WLan with my Onkyo AV-receiver to play music of my iPad. Do I need additional hardware or what have I to do?

I don't think there is a one-cable solution either. You're going to need to feed the audio separately, and if the TV set doesn't allow you to select separate inputs for audio and video, then you won't be able to use the TV set's speakers at all. In that case, setting up a pair of computer speakers on either side of the TV is probably the best solution.

N95, updates, maps and going online

Updated my trusty N95 to V 35.0.002. Have managed to update maps using latest Ovi suite. See below for hints) Have just installed UK maps and English voice and now have 30 days only free navigation. (Just what does happen to my old licence that I paid for 3 yrs?) 'Old' maps was set to go online via WiFi at start up using one of several wifi access points and always worked perfectly. Now, maps starts and after a few seconds a message comes up saying that there is 'no internet connection, go to Tools" etc. I then go round in a loop where I tell the phone to go online and it tells me that it can't connect. (This can be during a time when I am connected via a browser to WiFi - ie I have wifi internet access. It also won't connect if I am not already connected via wifi.) My N96 is set up to do exactly the same ( log on via wifi) and manages to log on to wifi by itself.
Any ideas on how to make my N95 connect to the outside world with Maps?
Hints for updating maps.
As can be seen from the forums, Ovi maps are a pain. I too found this. My recommendations are:
Uninstall any previous versions of Ovi - it doesn't seem to update properly.
Use something like CCleaner to uninstall anything with Nokia in the title.
Download the latest version of Ovi suite and install.
This seemed to work for me.
Note: If you have PC Suite installed and Maploader 3: This worked for my N96 on my work PC running XP SP3 and is recommended because you can select lots of maps and queue for auto download and installation. It doesn't work on my laptop running Vista. I had to use Ovi and install one map at a time on the Vista system
PC Suite and Maploader 3 running on XP refuses to recognise my N95.
Also, it is possible to download a maps package for both the N95 (nokia_maps_3.01_09wk44_b01_s60_3.1_lm_rom.sis)
and N96
(nokia_maps_3.01_09wk44_b01_s60_3.2_lm_rom.SIS)
from Nokia. If you try to install using PC Suite to either a N95 or N95, both packages say that they are not supported by either the phone or PC Suite. So why are they there and how can you install them???

If you come out of the Maps application and go to Options > Settings > Connectivity > Destinations > Internet/ WAP Services.
you can then select which access point is used for the various network destinations.
Search for existing Access points and see if you can set your O2 Prepay WAP access point as priority 1 Access Point.
Then within Maps ensure that Internet/WAP Services is the method selected to go online in Options > Tools > Settings > Internet > Network Destinations.

Send mail via WLAN not possible

Whenever I try to send mails while being connected via WLAN, Apple Mail tells me that it cannot connect to the relevant smtp server opening a window to choose another one.
This is NOT happening when I am connected to the web to the SAME NETWORK or any other network but just via cable.
When I try to send mails while being connected to the web using my Vodafone UMTS card the same happens.
I always use the same mail accounts and settings thererof.
Receiving mails is no problem, browsing the web no problem.
Any idea

Most if not all ISPs used for connecting to the internet block the use of SMTP servers that are outside of their network (or not provided by the ISP) on Port 25 which is the most common and default port used for all SMTP servers.
Some ISPs allow the use of an authenticated SMTP server only (such as the .Mac and AOL SMTP servers) on Port 25 but some block its use regardless.
This is entirely left up to an controlled by the ISP used for connecting to the internet at the time.
Go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts and under the Account Information tab for your .Mac account preferences at the SMTP server selection, select the Server Settings button below for the .Mac SMTP server.
Enter 587 in place of 25 in the Server Port field and when finished, select OK to save the changed settings.
Test if this resolves the problem which it should since you are able to send messages with your AOL account and authenticated SMTP server which also used Port 587 for the Server Port.
Go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts and under the Account Information tab for your AOL account preferences at the SMTP server selection, select the Server Settings button below to confirm the AOL authenticated SMTP server is using 587 for the Server Port.

Saving always goes to documents folder

I've posted this problem before but haven't received a fix for it yet. Perhaps I'm just explaining it wrong. Simply put every time I go to save a document, instead of going to the last folder used in the program it always goes to the documents folder of the user. Also the last folder does not even show up in the drop down of the save window, only the path to the documents folder. The various programs do remember recent documents opened. But the "open file" always goes to documents, not last folder. This was not always the case, but has been for the last 6months or so and I can't seem to correct it.
I've tested the system by adding a new account and seeing if it happen there also or if it is just the one account. But the same situation exists, so it seems to be universal to this computer.
Based on previous threads this is what I've attempted so far:
Deleted in: (myhome)/Library/Preferences
com.apple.finder.plist
com.apple.sidebarlists.plist
com.apple.launchservices.plist
com.adobe.xxxx.plist
com.macromedia.xxxx.plist
ALSO Deleted : /library/caches/com.applelaunchservices-xxxx.csstore (all)
Then restarted computer. This however has not resolved the problem. I know all the work arounds of "put folder in sidebar" and what not, but that doesn't fix the problem. I want to fix this problem.

I don't know what else you can do, nor why dialogs aren't working correctly. The Open and Save dialogs in most applications are now handled by Apple's Navigation Services, although developers can add some custom things to this basic arrangement. See this article:

Note especially this paragraph:
"...two types of dialogs can appear—a minimal Save dialog and a full Save dialog. The minimal Save dialog, shown in Figure 1-2, is displayed the first time a user saves a document in an application. This dialog provides a text field for the user to enter a filename. Applications can optionally specify a default filename to display. The dialog has a Where pop-up menu that, by default, suggests the Documents folder for the user. The user can open the pop-up menu to choose from locations previously set in the Finder sidebar or a recently-visited location. If none of those locations are acceptable, the user can click the disclosure button to the right of the text field to access the full Save dialog."
AFAIK the user choices made are then saved to the application's plist file. A list of Recent Items is also written to the com.apple.finder.plist and to the com.apple.recentitems.plist. So if you tossed those two plist files and the application's plist file, plus the sidebar plist for good measure you should get back to the default state. You would then open a dialog, expand it to full navigation view, pick new stuff, and these changes would be written to the respective plists. If this is not happening--if the plists are not being written to--I'm afraid I don't know what else you could do.
If you've never created a test user you might do so (in System Prefs/Acconts), log in to the test user and do some opening and saving (remember you will be at the default of the simple window with the Documents as the usual default). After you've done some open and save actions see if the test user now works correctly, with your actions remembered when you go back after a logout/in. If that is the case, then there is something odd going on in your regular account.

When i try to open a url from a search, it always goes to a random search engine, not the web page

If I do a search for something, I get the Google search fine, when I click on a link it never goes to the site, it always goes to a random search engine and sometimes freezes my computer. I created a new, alternate profile, but it does it on that one too.

If it's happening on more than one profile, it sounds like a malware redirectiing you. Try doing an antivirus scan first.

iCloud is not designed for sharing data with other people: you will need a third-party alternative such as DropBox or Sugarsync.

On its own, mac goes online and launches safari. WHY?.

i have a powermac G5, but am using an ATT dial-up. i know.
when we wake up the mac,
more often than not, it immediately starts dialing out, going online and then launching safari.

First off, you might have better luck posting in the correct forum. This is the forum for eMac support. Having stated this, I'll take a stab at your problem. I think it has to do with the way you have configured your Internet access. See this page (specifically question 4) for more information:

1. Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu.
2. Click the Network icon.
3. Be sure the Show pop-up menu is set to your modem (the "Configure" menu prior to Mac OS X 10.1), or other dial-up device.
4. Click the PPP tab.
5. Click PPP Options.
6. Uncheck the box marked "Connect automatically when starting TCP/IP applications" option.
7. Click OK.
8. Click Apply Now ("Save" prior to Mac OS X 10.1).

This error generally indicates a hardware failure. Bring the phone to Apple for evaluation.

And today it won't even read my camera's sd card, and I try with 2 different ones. If I restart the computer, leaving the memory card in, then it reads it; but if I pull it out and push it back in it doesn't see it. Whath am I doing wrong, if anything?

Where/how are you trying to change the name? If it is in Finder (after you've downloaded the pics to your desktop), highlight the pic icon and press Return. the name field will change and you can type in your new name. Hit Return again. That should make it "stick". If you're trying to do it elsewhere, please post the steps that you've tried.
As for your card: do you eject it properly? Either drag icon to trash or hit the eject symbol in the sidebar?
