Caching external JPEGs

I have a movie that calls up many external JPEGs using empty
movie clips and the loadMovie command. Over the course of the movie
different JPEGs are called up, depending on where the timeline is.
My problem is dealing with the short time it takes to reload
each JPEG every single time the timeline position is changed and a
new frame with a new instance (and new JPEG) is entered. I had
hoped the movie would just load the JPEG and keep it loaded for the
entire time, but every time the user goes to a new frame the movie
reloads the JPEG anew. Isn't there a way to cache the data from
external JPEGs so it doesn't have to reload all the time?

• Why is osx continuously caching external disk?

While I am -using an/any application that does- reading from an external disk, free memory continuously decreases and inactive memory increases with the same amount, which is aproximately the amount of data read. At some time, os starts paging and the system renders useless, forcing me to reboot.
Closing the application or using another usb slot has no effect, I have to eject the USB or use purge -which makes other applications sluggish-. Format of the -external drive's- partition (GUID, MBR),(HFS+, FAT32, NTFS) does not matter. All of the drives are excluded from Spotlight (are not indexed). I have
OSXFuse but that is only for Truecrypt, info about partitions show native drivers.
Why is osx continuously caching external disk, can a configuration/app/plugin cause this, is there a way to avoid this? Is there a selective purge command for external disk cache? Does anybody have this problem with external drives, and also with Mavericks?

• Transition Based Classes and External JPEGS

Hello.
I am trying to create a photo gallery that loads external
JPEGS . I would like to use transitions effects such as the blinds
transition (mx.transitions.Blinds) . But as I have read this can
only be used on a movie clip. My question is how to I apply effects
to externally loading JPEGS? Thanks, Wonder Wendy

Thank you so much LuigiL,
The code worked beautifuly. But my new problem is how to
load the JPEGS when the thumbnail buttons are pressed. When I tried
adding my code the images would load without the transition
effects. So I need to know where to insert the script so the the
JPEGS will load with the effects.
Wondering a lot less thanks to you,

• Flash player caches external class files

Hi I work for a technology company in San Antonio and we use
flash for developing interactive course ware. We use a flash shell
which loads the separate pages of our lessons and have noticed a
very big problem with the way the flash player caches class files.
Basically it seems that when you use the 'import' call in
actionscript the flash movie doesn't import the external class if
it has already been loaded. the problem is that we have a huge
amount of developed classes, many of which have been updated
throughout our development. Is there any way for force clear the
ASO cache in actionscript or force import external actionscript
classes?

Yes we know and use the delete aso files feature all the
time. this however is a runtime problem. meaning that the flash
player itself is caching class files and there is no way to get it
to refresh these links without doing a forced refresh of the shell
itself. this is something that is not an option as it doesn't allow
for fluid page loading. Is there any way to force reload/import
class files that have already been loaded, that is clear the
class/aso cache in the flash player itself using actionscript
code?

• How to cache external resource bundles?

Hi,
I am using Build JDEVADF_11.1.1.4.0_GENERIC_101227.1736.5923 on Windows 7.
We have used external resource bundle for our ADF application using loadbundle which extends java.util.ListResourceBundle.
Is there any way to cache these external resource bundles? and If yes when/how it will get cached?
We have found following link:
http://www.orastudy.com/oradoc/selfstu/fusion/web.1111/b31974/appendixa.htm (Section: A.11 adf-config.xml)
But not sure if it will help for external resource bundles.
Any pointers will be highly appreciated.
Thanks
Vishal

Hi again.
To achieve your requeriment you can try next solutions:
- Add a external path where you are going to let your Resource Bundle in your Manage Server Classpath. For example: /language (into this folder put your baseName folder's and properties file).
- Build your custom Java Class to load Resource Bundle in a configured classpath or path.
- Try to do a similar solution like WebCenter Spaces copying your resource bundle in MDS path and updating/getting it with WSLT scripts.

• Webcam Stream (External JPEG)

Hi, I'm designing a website aiming to provide visual coverage
of surfing locations across the UK through the use of webcam
images. Each of the images themselves will be retrieved externally,
with permission, from various hotels over-looking these locations.
I have spoken to someone who has completed a similar project,
a widget which retrieves and displays webcam images, which can be
viewed here:
http://www.ukbiketrails.co.uk/ukss/weCams.php
I would like to use the same method. Explained in his own
words:
'The feeds you see in the widget are simply JPEG images
hosted on the originating website, so none of the feeds are handled
by myself. The widget sends a HTTP request for the JPEG and
displays what it gets in the widget.'
As you can tell from the link url, he's used PHP, which I
have been learning.
I have lost contact with him recently and not sure the steps
I should take to integrate such a feature into my website. Please
help.

Any help is much appreciated

• Mail (and OS) Caching External Server IP address

I am having issues with Mail dropping offline periodically with it's connection to our Exchange Server. When this happens, I have found that the system is using external IP address of the server, rather than consulting the DNS server for it's address. When doing a lookup with the network utility, I get the correct internal address, but Safari and Mail both try the external IP address for the server.
Theses settings remain until I switch network locations. I am pretty sure this is a bug. As a work around, I tried removing the External Server settings from the Exchange account, however, this does not prevent it from happening.
Does any one have a work around until this is fixed?

• External DNS cache slow to update?

Hello.
Is there something in OS X 10.5 Server (which all machines use for their DNS server) that caches external DNS requests? I often find, within our network, external DNS cache is slow to be updated.
For example, right now, I just moved servers for a project I'm working on (well, I moved it 12 hours ago) and updated the DNS/zone file for it. When I'm outside our network, tracecroutes of the domain point to the new server. But, when I'm within the network, traceroutes still point to the old server.
The reason I think this has something to do with OS X 10.5 Server is, on the machine I'm sitting at right now, when DNS is set to the IP of the OS X 10.5 Server, external DNS is old (i.e., the traceroute on the domain I've moved still points to the old server). But, if I change the DNS to OpenDNS or Google DNS, the DNS information is new (i.e., the traceroute on the domains I've moved points to the new server).
Now, on the OS X 10.5 Server, I have "Forwarder IP Addresses" set to OpenDNS server. So, should DNS requests, via the OS X 10.5 Server, not make their way via OpenDNS servers? And if so, why is it that, when going through OS X 10.5 Server, I'm still pulling old DNS information?
I've:
- flushed the cache in OS X 10.5 Server (via dscacheutil -flushcache)
- flushed the cache on the 10.8 client machine (via sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder)
- restarted the machines
Does anyone know what's going on here?
Thanks,
Kristin.

Hi
If it's any consolation both sites mentioned have always been slow to load for me. Regardless of Service Bandwidth, external/internal DNS, Browser, Platform or Location.
Occasionally and for no apparent reason they do load as quickly as other sites. Only to return to their usual 'performance' after a short time. There are other sites that perform the same for me which I can't think of at the moment.

• Background image not cached in browser

Hi,
Using JDeveloper 11g R1.
We have a template, with a PanelGroupLayout component with a background image, like follows:
<af:panelGroupLayout layout="horizontal"
inlineStyle="width:100%; height:2px; background-image:url("images/separacioRalles.jpg"); background-repeat:repeat-x;"
id="pt_pgl5">
In runtime, the request made by the browser includes and _adf.ctrl-state=xxxxxx parameter, which I supose causes the browser not checking the cache.
image/jpeg http://127.0.0.1:7101/ViewController-context-root/faces/images/separacioRalles.jpg?_adf.ctrl-state=1bn1yq032y_79
Is there any way to avoid this _adf.ctrl-state? or another way to set the desired background?
Thanks,
Roger

Hi Frank,
Not working fine at all.
I tried as you said:
<af:panelGroupLayout layout="horizontal"
inlineStyle="width:100%; height:2px; background-repeat:repeat-x; background-image:url("/images/separacioRalles.jpg");"
id="pt_pgl5">
and this is the request received on the server:
127.0.0.1 - weblogic [28/ago/2009:10:39:58 +0200] "GET /images/separacioRalles.jpg HTTP/1.1" 404 1214
Comparing with an af:image component:
<af:image shortDesc="asdf"
source="/images/help.gif" id="pt_i1"/>
the request received on the server:
127.0.0.1 - weblogic [28/ago/2009:10:39:58 +0200] "GET /ViewController-context-root/images/help.gif HTTP/1.1" 304 0
If I put the contextroot in the background-image:url (background-image:url("/ViewController-context-root/images/separacioRalles.jpg"), it works fine.
127.0.0.1 - weblogic [28/ago/2009:10:44:28 +0200] "GET /ViewController-context-root/images/separacioRalles.jpg HTTP/1.1" 304 0
So seems that the background image url is not built in the same way as using af:image component.

• Creating Caches for faster browsing experiences

I really like the functionality with spry tabbed panels. I am creating an online portfolio and in one of my pages, I would like to put up many documents that I have created over the years. These documents (mainly pdfs) come from the root folder at average sizes of about 100kb per document. I also tried to accomodate browsers who don't have built in PDF readers in their web browser (eg. firefox) by providing the document via a Scribd embed.
As a newb, i'm learning things on the fly and on this fly, i've discovered that with all these Scribd embeds loading up simultaneously, the page contains the set of tabbed panels can be quite slow. Gramps has been awesome in suggesting that I use a user activated pop-up and by using caches.
I understand how caches work, but not sure how I can actually code one into my site.
Is it standard protocol for people to use a cache manifest maker?
How do I cache the embed codes given to me from scribd?
Where do I attach the manifest html code? at the top of every page?
If the data from the manifest is downloaded by the browser on page1, when the viewer navigates to page2, will the data still be accessible or will it require a second download.

• Cisco ACS with External DB - EAP-TLS

Hi Guys,
I understand how the EAP-TLS exchange works (I think), but If I have a client (wireless or wired) that is using EAP-TLS with an ACS, can I confirm the following.
Let say both user and computer certs are employed:
1. Both Client and ACS perform check with each others certs to ensure they are know to each other. The eap-tls exchange.
2a. At some stage and I am assuming before the eap-tls success message is sent back to the client, the ACS has to check if either the username or computer name is in the AD database?
2b. Wot is the paramater that is checked against the AD database?
I read here that it can be : http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/net_mgmt/cisco_secure_access_control_server_for_windows/4.1/configuration/guide/peap_tls.html#wp999517
Client Certificates
Client Certificates are used to positively identify the user in EAP-TLS. They have no role in building the TLS tunnel and are not used for encryption. Positive identification is accomplished by one of three means:
CN (or Name)Comparison-Compares the CN in the certificate with the username in the database. More information on this comparison type is included in the description of the Subject field of the certificate.
SAN Comparison-Compares the SAN in the certificate with the username in the database. This is only supported as of ACS 3.2. More information on this comparison type is included in the description of the Subject Alternative Name field of the certificate.
Binary Comparison-Compares the certificate with a binary copy of the certificate stored in the database (only AD and LDAP can do this). If you use certificate binary comparison, you must store the user certificate in a binary format. Also, for generic LDAP and Active Directory, the attribute that stores the certificate must be the standard LDAP attribute named "usercertificate".
3. With the above, if options 1 or 2 are used (CN or SAN comparison), I assume this is just a check between a value pulled out of the CERT by the ACS and checked with AD, is that correct? With option 3, does the ACS perform a full compaison of the certificate between what the client has and a "client stored cert" on the AD DB?
Please can someone help me with these points.
I am so lost in this stuff :)) I think.
Many thx and many kind regards,
Ken

• Cache loader images prior to loading?

hi,
is there a way to cache external jpg images prior to them
being called with the loader component? download them in the
background and not when the parent movieclip is loaded? i am trying
to keep the user from having to wait either at the beginning to
load the flash mc, or during it as well.
would it work if i had the parent html document preloadimages
or would flash be looking somewhere else for them?
also, can i use a fade effect on externally loaded images?
thanks for any help

For the caching question, here's an approach (read all the
comments its not perfect) using flash loadVars.
