Caching option for background/navigator graphics

I'm publishing my webpages to .MAC and I'm fairly happy with the service. The speed viewing the pages is somewhat slow, which brings me to my question:
All my pages share the same theme and navigation bar. But it seems that the way iWeb generates the pages, they don't share the same image file which causes the 'same' (as in a copy of it) image file to be loaded again and again when following the links within my page. If there would be an option that all the pages share the same image file for identical images (and iWeb should now that) on the webserver for the same image instead of using a copy, the pages would load much faster since graphics down have to be reloaded.
Is there an option to turn this on, or some trick to force iWeb to generate it that way? Modifying the generated pages by hand after generation is not an option since I have just too many pages on my site for doing that.
(and yes: I have the latest update of everything :-))
thanks
-Uwe

The "trouble" belongs to iWeb and to the method used to generate page code.
The same image may be used on 100 pages and it would download as "new" each time because the path to the file is different for each page.
The "fix" is a new folder structure for iWeb generated page code that could store commonly shared images in just one folder (root of your published Site).
Maybe in iWeb version 2?

  • "In-Memory Database Cache" option for Oracle 10g Enterprise Edition

    Hi,
In one of our applications, we are using TimesTen 5.1.24 and Oracle 9i
    databases (platform - Solaris 9i).
TimesTen holds application information which needs to be accessed quickly
and Oracle 9i is a master application database.
Now we are looking at an option of migrating from Oracle 9i to Oracle 10g
database. While exploring about Oracle 10g features, came to know about
"In-Memory Database Cache" option for Oracle Enterprise Edition. This made
me to think about using Oracle 10g Enterprise Edition with "In-Memory
Database Cache" option for our application.
Following are the advantages that I could visualize by adopting the
    above-mentioned approach:
    1. Data reconciliation between Oracle and TimesTen is not required (i.e.
data can be maintained only in Oracle tables and for caching "In-Memory
    Database Cache" can be used)
    2. Data maintenance is easy and gives one view access to data
I have following queries regarding the above-mentioned solution:
    1. What is the difference between "TimesTen In-Memory Database" and
"In-Memory Database Cache" in terms of features and licensing model?
    2. Is "In-Memory Database Cache" option integrated with Oracle 10g
installable or a separate installable (i.e. TimesTen installable with only
    cache feature)?
    3. Is "In-Memory Database Cache" option same as that of "TimesTen Cache
Connect to Oracle" option in TimesTen In-Memory Database?
    4. After integrating "In-Memory Database Cache" option with Oracle 10g, data
access will happen only through Oracle sqlplus or OCI calls. Am I right here
    in making this statement?
    5. Is it possible to cache the result set of a join query in "In-Memory
    Database Cache"?
In "Options and Packs" chapter in Oracle documentation
    (http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/license.102/b14199/options.htm
#CIHJJBGA), I encountered the following statement:
"For the purposes of licensing Oracle In-Memory Database Cache, only the
processors on which the TimesTen In-Memory Database component of the
In-Memory Database Cache software is installed and/or running are counted
for the purpose of determining the number of licenses required."
We have servers with the following configuration. Is there a way to get the
count of processors on which the Cache software could be installed and/or
    running? Please assist.
Production box with 12 core 2 duo processors (24 cores)
Pre-production box with 8 core 2 duo processors (16 cores)
Development and test box with 2 single chip processors
Development and test box with 4 single chip processors
Development and test box with 6 single chip processors
    Thanks & Regards,
    Vijay

    Hi Vijay,
    regarding your questions:
    1. What is the difference between "TimesTen In-Memory Database" and
"In-Memory Database Cache" in terms of features and licensing model?
==> Product has just been renamed and integrated better with the Oracle database - Times-Ten == In-Memory-Cache-Database
    2. Is "In-Memory Database Cache" option integrated with Oracle 10g
installable or a separate installable (i.e. TimesTen installable with only
    cache feature)?
    ==> Seperate Installation
    3. Is "In-Memory Database Cache" option same as that of "TimesTen Cache
Connect to Oracle" option in TimesTen In-Memory Database?
    ==> Please have a look here: http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/timesten/quickstart/cc_qs_index.html
    This explains the differences.
    4. After integrating "In-Memory Database Cache" option with Oracle 10g, data
access will happen only through Oracle sqlplus or OCI calls. Am I right here
    in making this statement?
==> Please see above mentioned papers
    5. Is it possible to cache the result set of a join query in "In-Memory
    Database Cache"?
    ==> Again ... ;-)
    Kind regards

  • How to atomate caching options for all pages?

    Hi,
    Customer request:
Does there exist a means of automating caching option for all the pages of a page group or a portal?
Thanks a lot for your kind help.
    Best regards.

Depends on the view technology you´re using for JSF.
If you're using JSP, use jsp:include.
If you're using Facelets, use ui:include.
Consult the documentation of the view technology used for details.

  • [AS] Making "keep overrides" the default graphic layer option for all placed graphics?

If I relink thisLink when it is missing, and update link option was set to keep overrides, everything is fine. But if it was set to application settings, I am in a world of hurt, because suddenly all my Unit numbers will show 1-32 piled on top of each other (all layers visible in Photoshop) or the wrong one (just one layer visible in Photoshop) or nothing at all!
The catch-22 is that until I relink missing links, update link option only shows "unknown" as the result. Arrrgh?
set myLinks to every link whose status = missing
    repeat with thisLink in myLinks
get update link option of graphic layer options of parent of thisLink
-->Returns "unknown" instead of "application settings" or "keep overrides"
        try
set update link option of graphic layer options of parent of thisLink to "keep overrides"
            relink thisLink to newLinkPath
            update thisLink
        on error
-->This always errors on the set update link option line
        end try
    end repeat
Anyone know a way around this or should I just change my name to Yossarian?
    Thanks in advance,
    Eric.

Well, I give you points for creativity! Unfortunately, relink is destructive and overwrites any info with the default (which in CS2 is application settings).
What really kills me is that InDesign has some Sooper Seekrit internal list that only the Links palette knows about. So if you *manually* try and relink the document and then revert it, it automatically relinks against all the paths you've tried since launching it and therefore, the second time all the links show as linked and the process is non-destructive, unlike the "relink" command.
    Argh.
I will think on it some more though. Thanks for your input!
PS: Adobe apparently broke the ability to relink against a string in CS4 from what I can tell. In spite of the fact that the dictionary specifically lists alias or string or string (yes, says or string twice in the dictionary), only alias really seem to work.
    So...
set newLinkFolder to "" & path to home folder & "Pictures:"
set newLinkPath to newLinkFolder & name of thisLink
    try
    relink thisLink to newLinkPath
    on error
    display dialog "FAIL!"
    end try
    try
relink thisLink to newLinkPath as alias
    on error
display dialog "No fail. You'll never see this message!"
    end try

  • Defining Server Caching Options for XML?

    Hi all...
Using CS3, I've created an XSLT fragment to consume an RSS
feed, and inserted that in a homepage, following this tutorial for
    DW8:
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/dreamweaver/articles/dw_xsl_rss.html
It works great, but I'm curious... what do I edit (or add) to
define caching of the XML on the server? I want to limit it to an
update every few hours or so, to minimize bandwith usage.
Thanks for any help, kinda learning this all as I go....

  • Keep cache option

could anyone explain me if i use keep cache option for the static table, whether it'll have impact to the SGA memory?(I believe the table stored in cache buffer)

According to Oracle document "A good candidate for a segment to put into the KEEP pool is a segment that is smaller than 10% of the size of the DEFAULT buffer pool and has incurred at least 1% of the total I/Os in the system"
so if u load a large table to buffer cache, it will occupy many memory, which could be free for other process. In turn, insufficient buffer cache occurs, the database performance will be worsen.

  • Cache Option and Legacy apps

    Hi,
I've been reading a lot from TimesTen and the Cache Option for the oracle Database but I have a question.
I have a legacy application that uses Oracle DB and I'd like to use the In-Memory Cache Option; do I need to modify anything in the code of my app?
This is important as I don't have the code for the app.
    Thank you.

"do I need to modify anything in the code of my app?"
TimesTen 11.2.1 added a number of features that enable a legacy application to run against TimesTen cache without modification to the application code (or with little modification). We now support the mainstream Oracle interfaces, such as OCI, Pro*C, PL/SQL. But we are not sure whether you need to modify your application unless you can share with us some details on your application. For example, which interface your application uses? Does your application use some Oracle-database specific features that the Cache option does not support?
If it's impossible for you to get these details, you may simply try to install the TimesTen cache and run your application against it to figure out.

Nic, for me the iTunes window looks like this, when I connect my iPad 3:
I select the iPad in the "devices" section of the Sidebar (use: "View > Show Sidebar" if the sidebar is hidden).
Click the "Apps" tab in the "Devices" pane.
Scroll all the way down in the Devices pane to "File Sharing" "Apps" section.
Then do I click "GarageBand" to select the documents in the right panel.
Which part is different for you? Perhaps you could post a screenshot?

  • Ibooks author, how do I get the standard book pages background into my document. I have published one book so far which does not display with a book pages background or options for font size.

ibooks author, how do I get the standard book pages background into my document. I have published one book so far which does not display with a book pages background or options for font size.

No on the book title, no problem there.
The issue is: my book pages appear as on white paper, no background that resembles a open book and also no option to change fonts. The book was created in iBooks author, there was a problem going with the "Publish" menu route so I was instructed my Apple to "export" the file and submit that. I think that's the problem after reading that iBooks author is a hybrid epub file.
Thanks for getting back to me.

  • 'use dynamic name' and 'caching properites' options for alias table...

    Hello everybody,
can anybody please explain 'use dynamic name' and 'caching properites' options for alias tables...
    Thanks...
    eagerly waiting for a response..
    Vijay

You want to create dynamic target table name right?
You can refresh a variable like #GET_SESSION
    #GET_SESSION= SELECT <%=odiRef.getSession("SESS_NAME")%> FROM DUAL
My tmp table name like TMP_#GET_SESSION
then in your package refresh #GET_SESSION variable and you can use it.
I hope this can be helpful
    Thanks

  • What options for graphics cards, ram?

I have a single processer 1.6GHZ Power PC G5 with an nVidia GeForce FX 5200. What are some good options for faster graphics cards? and what kind/brand of ram should I get? Thanks in advance!

    Hi-
You might find the following articles helpful:
    http://www.barefeats.com/rad4x.html
    http://www.anandtech.com/mac/showdoc.aspx?i=2502&p=1
    http://www.barefeats.com/motion02.html
The 9600 has advantages over the 5200. If you aren't looking for "night and day" performance increases, the 9600 will offer increases in performance over the 5200, and may provide enough for your needs.
As a bonus, though, you would be able to run a 30" Cinema Display with the 9600, should you so desire.

  • Graphics card options for MacPro

I was just curious if anyone knows if Apple will provide any other option for the video cards in the MacPro (i.e. ATI Radeon cards)?
Most of the Autodesk products (3DSMax and Revit) require an ATI FireGL Pro card ...yes I run evil Win7 via Bootcamp (works great if you have to be in the evil Win environment!).
I am just considering buying the MacPro (vs. an ugly PC box of some kind) and was wondering if anyone has substituted the Radeon cards for another?
I've been using my MBPro17 for 2 years now (Bootcamp, Win7, Revit, etc) and it has worked like a champ (something I cannot say for the PC laptops in the office), so this has led to the desire to get another Mac instead of a PC to work in the Windows environment.
    Thanks

I understand why people run Windows through a virtualized environment, or even in Boot Camp...  But it seems silly to purchase a Mac and then use it almost exclusively in Windows.  Granted the build quality of most consumer PCs is quite less than that of a Mac -- but there do exist well-built PCs, as well.  If you're a serious-enough user to need a FireGL card and a Windows environment, I would think a PC workstation would better suite you.

  • Will apple add 6MB cache processor for Macbook Pro 13?

I have been a PC user all my life. Recently I decided to shop for a macbook pro as my next laptop. For portability reasons, I want to stick to 13 inch models. While most of the hardware configuration seems very good, I was a little disappointed that the 13 inch Macbook Pro model does not have a 6mb L2 cache processor option nor a dedicated graphics card. The Air seems to have the 6mb cache processor but not the latter, which I understand considering the small profile of the Air. Does anyone know if Apple might release a juiced up model of the 13 inch Macbook pro with better processor and graphics card?

Does anyone know if Apple might release a juiced up model of the 13 inch Macbook pro with better processor and graphics card?
Nobody here would know as Apple does not discuss unannounced future products.

  • Upgrade options for my new old Power Mac G4?

So I just got a free Power Mac G4 MDD. It has dual G4 1.25 GHz cpus, 2 GB RAM, 4x80 GB Seagate Cheetah SCSI hard drives in RAID 0, Airport wireless, 2 Super drives, and a Geforce4 Ti 4600 GPU. It has a fresh install of Tiger, and I am wondering what upgrades are available for it; it feels smooth most of the time, but high res videos on youtube are pretty much unwatchable. I have done some research of my own, and I found a few pci-x cards that look useful, like for SATA ports, Firewire 800, usb 2.0, etc. I have also read about cpu upgrades up to 1.8 Ghz, and that it is possible to flash a pc graphics card to work on a mac, but all of the examples I've seen are with PCI Express graphics cards. Should I get the Sata card and use faster hard drives? Is there, in your experience, a good graphics card upgrade for my PowerMac? Is there a CPU upgrade faster the 1.42 GHz that I can get, and where? And what about overclocking my cpu? I got this for free, and I am willing to pay a few hundred dollars to upgrade it. I know its pretty old, but fixing up and upgrading old computers to there best is a hobby of mine.

Should I get the Sata card and use faster hard drives?
PCI or PCI-X controllers provide for good perfomance with SATA drives.
The Firmtek Seritek cards have excellent compatibility, are bootable to connected drives, and will help provide performance beyond that possible with ATA drives on the native bus.
BTW, PCI-X cards are backwards compatible to PCI.
Is there, in your experience, a good graphics card upgrade for my PowerMac?
The three best options for a MDD are a flashed Radeon 9800 XT, Radeon X800XT (flashed FireGL X3) or flashed Geforce 7800 GS.
If one upgrades to Leopard, the FireGL/X800 is best.
In Tiger, the 7800 GS is best.
Is there a CPU upgrade faster the 1.42 GHz that I can get, and where?
Sonnet used to make one (MDX Duet), but you'll be hard pressed to find one on eBay or such.
IMHO, overclocking the 1.42 GHz processor to 1.58 GHz provides for a much more powerful machine.
Heck, even at 1.42 GHz, the 7445 processor and 2 MB L3 cache are stronger, overall, than the 7447 processor used in the MDX Duet.
And what about overclocking my cpu?
    http://bitsandpieces.info/Multipliers.htm
OC'ing the MDD adds to heat issues.
There are some great mods like this one:
