Calendar "save as pdf" question

When saving a calendar as a pdf, there doesn't seem to be any pdf quality settings for saving the calendar. I'm wondering because if I take that pdf file to a printer, is the file of lesser quality than if I uploaded from iPhoto to Apple for printing. So, when you use the File>Print>Save as PDF command, are you getting a highly compressed file or a high quality file?

FWIW I also ran a test and compared three versions of the pdf file.
1 - the one iPhoto creates in the invisible HD/private/var/tmp/folders.501/Temporaryitems/iPhoto file
2 - from the Preview mode
3 - from the Print to PDF mode
All three were identical in size.
Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

  • "Save as PDF" question

I am saving SolidWorks drawings as PDF's. I have found that I can Save small drawings as PDF with no problem, But If I have a drawing that is a larger File size. The saved PDF file is a white sheet. Is there any idea why this is happening? Below is the specs of SW's and Adobe.
    Thanks.
    Solid Works- 2011 SP. 2
    Adobe Standard- 9.0

The application is using Acrobat to create the PDF. I save drawings with file sizes around 15MB to 20MB on the normal bases. Once in a while i need to save files upwards of 40MB to 50MB. This is were I have the problem of the file not saving correctly. These drawings have alot of graphics. Could that cause problems with Acrobat or would it be the SolidWorks application? I checked with Solidworks Tech. Support and they said its not a problem on there end. Very frustrating....

  • Newbie question  - Save as PDF (Send As Review)

I know that there is a "Save as PDF (Send as Review)" option that allows the client to review and comment but once the client has sent back the comments, how do you import those comments back into FrameMaker?
    thanks

    Copy & paste.
Unfortunately, there is no direct route back from Acrobat into FM as
    there is for Word.

Whenever you try to save a PDF file to a location other than the default location ('My Documents'), Firefox freezes & you have to go to the 'Task Manager' to exit Firefox and stop the error. I have Windows XP (Media Center Edition) and all updates (Firefox, Adobe PDF, Microsoft, virus protection, etc) are installed. This has only been a problem since Firefox 4, and isn't a problem in Internet Explorer.

    Hi David,
Thank you for your detailed question. It sounds like the real issue is pdf files. Are there any antivirus/firewalls that might be blocking this specific file type? or are there any preferences in your control panel that might be blocking this?
Do you have any stored preferences for PDF files in Firefox?

  • Prevent Insertion of Author Name in Save as PDF

The standard Print dialogue box features a button/menu "PDF" with a "Save as PDF" choice. By default, the user account's full name is inserted in the Author field when using this option. (I shall not comment on Apple's wisdom -- or lack thereof -- in setting such a default.)
Others have asked before how to prevent this behaviour, eg
    Save as PDF
How to Print to PDF anonymously
    Print - Save as PDF
and various solutions have been suggested, some more ingenious than others. However, they do not actually answer the question.
I am aware I can use various methods to remove the metadata afterwards, or use an Automator action, or simply delete it before the PDF file is created, but any of them means more, rather than less, work. So my question is simply this:
How can I modify the default and prevent the OS from inserting the full name in the Author field in the first place?
    Thanks.

    thanks for the reply:
don't know if this some sort of a display redraw issue:
but if I just hit enter I get the file saved as untitled.wav (which is floating in the middle of the screen not in the correct location)
and the file ends up in "My Music Folder" (which I never use, but can't change folders either)
-good grief I hate M$ for their My . . . crap folders
the system is using similar Intel-GMA integrated graphics as my main workstation
the only difference is processors and the chipset is one generation back
my main workstation has 965ry and the backup has 945g

  • Print to PDF questions

I have two questions. I have Acrobat 7 running on 10.5.2 on a new MBP.
    1. I can no longer successfully select the Adobe printer from the printer pop-u[p menu in the print dialog box. If I do, things seem to proceed, but the printer immediately goes to pause and will not resume. This is not a major problem, as the PDF button appears at the bottom left and that will save the file to PDF. But I am curious as to why the Adobe "virtual" printer no longer works.
    2. Previously, when using the PDF button, I could edit the menu and save PDFs to a folder of my choice. Now, when I select "edit the menu" and then hit the "+" button, I get the appropriate dialog box but cannot select a folder. I can open folders, but cannot select them as the "save to" folder. Any help here would be appreciated.

Some things that used to work in Tiger no longer work in Leopard. I suspect that Adobe did not rush to fix it because there is built-in way to generate PDF files already.

The Edit Menu feature is not designed to select a folder to save your PDF files into. It is so you can select an Automator workflow script to process your PDF file. That's how it handles such tasks as Mail PDF and Save PDF to iPhoto. You could create an Automator script to save a PDF to a particular folder, but in my experience, once you save a PDF to a folder, it becomes the default folder automatically until you select a different one.

  • Samsung 1630w won't save as pdf

After all the hassles with 10.5 and an hp1012, I just got a Samsung ML1630W. It is wireless, set up with airport (11g) no problems. But it won't save as pdf (in print). It says go to file>save. I hate to jinks a new printer that works, but it seems apple released samsung drivers when leopard came out. I was wondering if this might work. I think this printer is a newer model, though. Any ideas or work arounds.

Oh, probably just a distiller hiccup. Glad to hear it works now. I have had my share of Adobe background processes problems, too, and I wouldn't have thought to reboot right away either. Make sure to mark this question 'answered' when you get a chance.

  • Error message when trying to save as PDF or to export form

I used Form Central and chose a template, and changed a few things. Now I couldn't save the document or export it, though I followed the other response to download and install the latest flash player (but the same Error message is there again when I tried saving again). Also, I couldn't share the form through emails, where's the sharing button?

OK – that helps a lot (knowing it is the desktop application with Acrobat XI).
    A few questions:
Have you launched Acrobat XI and accepted the EULA etc?  I assume your trial period is still valid?
Can you go to the “Help” menu and select “About FormsCentral” and tell me the “Build” number at the bottom?
Using the Acrobat XI FormsCentral Desktop application you can save forms as PDF with a paid or free account, so there is some other reason you are not able to save as PDF…  I will try to figure out what is going on there…
The reason you don’t see the “Share” button (or menu item) is that you are working in a “local” form (I am assuming), a form stored locally in the desktop application that is available whether you have internet connection or not.  In a Free account you can only have one form “online” but you can have unlimited “local” forms, so after you have one form online the rest are created locally in the application.  In order to share the form (and many other options in the forms) you need to “move” the form online (but would need to delete any other online forms you have).
For more information about the desktop application there is an FAQ here: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/formscentral/using/WSfbd8801cd9e3b90466dec8cf13a00789d8f-8000. html
The FAQ does not have screenshots, but if you are looking at the “My Forms” tab (if you have a form open and close it you see the “My Forms” dashboard), local forms have a little computer icon next to them (left column) and online forms show a cloud icon.  Read the “Move forms online” section of the FAQ for more information about the differences between the local and online forms.
    Thanks,
    Josh

  • Save As PDF /A Poor Quality

    Hi
I am trying to save a PDF file as a PDF /A 1b
When I choose PDF /A 1b and click Save, the file is created but the resolution is incredibly poor. Text is fuzzy and when I zoom into images they are pixelated.
If I hit the Settings button in the Save As dialog and change the Image resolution to 300 PPI, the resulting PDF is fine but it is not a PDF /A and a dialog box appears suggesting that Preflight should be used with the PDF /A profile to fix any problems
I tried using the preflight feature and choose the PDF /A profile but again, the quality was incredibly poor. I edited the profile but could not see where exactly to raise the resolution so I tried changing the Images section from Inactive to Info and changed the values to 300 PPI. I saved the profile, but the Preflight utility reported an error 'unable to save/create file' when I tried to run and fix the process.
Can anyone help me produce a PDF /A that is of a decent resolution so that images can be zoomed into without losing clarity and where the text is not fuzzy/hazy please?
    Many thanks.

Thanks to both of you for your replies.
    Here's what we do:
We create PDF versions of MS-Word, MS-Excel, CAD, MS-Access, MapInfo documents. We use CutePDF Pro to merge those PDF's into a single document. Later, we may use Adobe Acrobat to create a smaller file via the virtual Adobe PDF printer which is suitable for transmitting via email. When we create a smaller sized file we do not see a drop in quality. The view options are set so that 'what you see is what you get'.
The original document looks fine and we can zoom in and see small detail in the images and the text stays sharp - same with the smaller file size versions.
We create a PDF /A for archiving because we have to deposit these files with professional archiving services. The people who run this service require PDF /A PDF's which are searchable - this means that text has to be retained. One of things I noticed when watching the output during the PDF /A creation process was that many pages were being converted into images which is of no use to us as the ability to search will not be available.
Regarding the transparency question I have no idea. I will research this and find out how to run the transparency flattener. Hopefully, that will resolve this.
    Thanks again for your help!

  • Save as PDF file path dialog

Again, another odd operation that Adobe has added to Acrobat Professional DC for Mac. When I Save, or Save As in Acrobat DC, the next window is an Adobe Save As PDF  window with several, helpful options. There is a list of five or so Recently Visited folder, options in the sidebar to send this to a Cloud and a giant button "Choose a Different Folder". This button is so large, I actually, have trouble locating it.
Usually, I'm working in a current document and the folder I wish to save that document to, percolates to the top of the Recent Folders. That's handy. However, when you click that selection, actually any selection, even Choose a Different Folder, the OS X Finder window always opens up to the same folder. The folder is named, simply "T" for temporary. If you save anything there, and close Acrobat, you have lost your work my friend. I have figured that out, now. But my question is, why ask where my destination folder of choice, if you never locate it anyway? That window is a waste of space.
This is obviously a bug between the new DC version and the Mac Finder system. The action in the Save As PDF window need to have the file paths updated.

    Hi
I accessed to a website from my uni library computer using my student account and download a pdf file in there. However, that pdf file contains a line of words saying "Accessed by ... University Library on 30 Mar 2007". This line is printed vertically and on the left side of the page.
Do you know how to remove that line? I think the website just embedded that line into the file.
    Please help.
    Thank you very much.

  • How to save Fillable PDF form created in XI - So Acrobat Reader can fill out and send back

Hi, Im extremely hopeful someone can help me with this question, Ive had extreme luck with this question site, you have all been amazing.
I have created a fillable form in Adobe Acrobat XI and I have saved my work and Im ready to send the form to my client.
I have been told that I need to save my file in a manner that the general public that does not have Acrobat XI, and mainly has acrobat reader, will be able to open, fill my form out, and send back to me completed.
    How do I do this.
Ive run a couple tests with coworker and its not allowing the saving of the information that she filled out.
Does anyone know how I need to save and distribute this form so I get it back filled out from my clients? that probably have only reader?
thanks in advance for your help.
    Amy

I think I figured this out???? My pdf tester has gone to bed, so hopefully I will know by morning if this is my solution......
Open the PDF in Acrobat XI (the form you have saved that is ready to be filled out to whoever you distribute the form to).
Choose Advanced > Enable Usage Rights in Adobe Reader (Acrobat 8/9) (if you have XI do not do this step, but do step 4 for XI)
    or
File > Save As >Reader Extended PDF > Enable Additional Features (Acrobat X) (Its actually not in save as, but in save as other)
Save the PDF using a different file name, you will be using this new file to be the file you will distribute.
When you now open the PDF in Adobe Reader you will be able to fill the form and save the data and then send it back to the author that is requesting the form to be filled out.

  • When I save a pdf file and try to open it I get an error message

When I save a pdf file and try to open it I get an error message, "Adobe Reader could not open 'file name.pdf' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded)."
When I try to open it with Preview I get this message, "file name.pdf” could not be opened because it is empty."
I am running  Maverick OS X 10.9.1.  What's up with this?

Good question (I'm not a Mac guy these days).
But Adobe Reader is only viewing the file as it has been saved. If it happens to all pdf files from all sources, I would begin to investigate your OS (and possible permissions but I'm not sure) maybe in the Apple forums.

  • Photoshop Save As PDF Settings Text loses 100% Black or Color Density is too High

I am taking a CMYK Photoshop file and saving it as a PDF for a magazine.
By request, the company has asked that the color density does not exceed 260%.  In the output setings of the Save Adobe PDF dialog box, under color, I have:
    Color Conversion:  Convert to Destination
Destination: U.S. Web Uncoated v2 (told to me by the magazine to use)
Profile Inclusion Policy:  Include Destination Profile
When I create the PDF, SUCCESS!!! it works where the color density is under 260%.
I verified in Acrobat Pro X by going to View / Tools / Print Production / Output Preview with the following settings:
Simulation Profile:  U.S. Web Uncoated v2
    Sample Size:  3x3
Total Area Coverage checked and set to 260%
HOWEVER, when I do this, the text goes from CMYK 0 0 0 100 to using all four colors.  I have been recommended by the company to keep pure back on the text due to possible registration errors.
If I export out to PDF using the "PDF/X-1a" (inside photoshop pdf export), then I can get the text to keep 0 0 0 100 but the color density goes way over 260%.
Has anyone had this problem?   I cannot get the color density to stay under 260% AND keep the text to 100% black.
Any help is always greatly appreciated.

Thank you Mylenium for your reply.  What you have said makes sense but I am not sure how to implement it.  I did a google search on Photoshop Multichannel mode and I did really find anything helpful or relevant.
I tried playing with the multichannel just the same.  I made a copy of my photoshop document first (just in case I screwed up my file) and I converted it to multichannel mode from the current CMYK.  (Image / Mode / Multichannel)  Under "Channels" I looked at each layer (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black) individually and the text and other black areas in question were only on the black channel as it should be.  Now that I am in multichannel mode, I cannot "Save As" a Photoshop PDF file so I had to do a Print to PDF option.  I used the same export setting (or as close that I could tell) that I was using before and I still ended up with the same problem.  My color density is under 260% but my black text is using 4 channels.
I also noticed that when I converted to Multichannel mode, the color of the image did change / shift a bit which also has me a bit worried.
Can you describe how I am to implement Multichannel mode to get my desired output?  Also, can you elaborate on "custom channel for text blacks"?
I appreciate the help, thank you!

  • How do I save a pdf from Gmail to my adobe reader?

How do I save a pdf from Gmail to my adobe reader?
    how can i solve this?

    fats vee,
Please take a look at my replies and screenshots in the following forum post to transfer a PDF email attachment from the Gmail app for iOS to Adobe Reader for iOS.
How do I save a PDF attachment from Gmail to Adobe reader?
As I mentioned in the forum post, it requires many extra steps to transfer a PDF document from the Gmail app.  This is because the Gmail app for iOS does not support "Open In..." as many other iOS apps do.
Please let us know if you have additional questions.

Anyone has any ideas how to fix this? Thanks!

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter the name of the crashed application or process. For example, if Safari crashed, you would enter "Safari" (without the quotes.)
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
☞ The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
☞ Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ User Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of crash reports. The name of each report starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report related to the process in question. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.
