Hi I am trying to code a system where when a user enters my swf file (My actionscript 3.0 game compiled) it calles a c# method OnEnter() this method updates the users online column in the database to 1 and when they leave the game it calles OnLeave() this method sets the online to 0 if the c# application is not open then it will show a black screen and display a message "Server is not open"

In PL/SQL function can be used just about anywhere where an expression (with the same data type that the function returns). Arpit gave a very common example.
Here's another example, where all the functions take a single NUMBER argument and return a NUMBER, so they can all be used in places where NUMBERs are used:

    WHERE   column_z = fun_e (ROUND ((fun_f (3), fun_g (4)));You call a function simply by using its name, followed by its argument list, if any.
If the function is in a package, you must call it with the package name, like "pk_foo.bar (1, 2, 3)", unless the call comes from within the same package.
If the function is owned by someone else, you must give the owner name, like "scott.bar (SYSDATE)" or "scott.pk_foo.bar (1, 2, 3)". You can create synonyms to avoid having to name the owner.

Call outside function with same name in a package

I created a function as follows:

Then I create a package with a function in it, as follows:

Now I define the package body as follows:

How do I resolve the name issues here?

Do you have a good reason for using the same name?
Refer to the stand-alone function with the owner name, even though it's your current schema.
That is, even if the package and the stand-alone function are owned by scott, in the package, say
x := scott.f1;

Could you indicate why you would want to?
The eventhandler you show here uses the properties of the event object passed as an argument.
The way I read it it is data retrieved from a server so your app won't know anything about is untill it is loaded from the server which should be done with an URLLoader object which in it's turn calls your eventHandler when the Event.COMPLETE is triggered.
something like:
var urlLoader = new URLLoader();
urlLoader.addEventListener( Event.COMPLETE, showTopTen )
urlLoader.load( new URLRequest( "http:// etc." ) );
to me would seem the proper method to have the function execute.

Help with Action script 2.0 please

Hi,
I am new to actionscript and i could really do with some help
please. I am trying to load external movie clips into two different
containers depending on which button is clicked. Sometimes there
may be two conatiners attached to a buuton click, whilst other
buttons may only need to load one movie clip. Here is the action
script i have been using:

This does load the movies, however i have to press button one
first before button two will work. Ideally i need to be able to
call any movieclip at any time. Can anyone tell me where i am going

Error message with Action Script 2.0 file

Hi,
I am trying to edit an old flash file that uses Action Script 2.0. I am using CS6 and keep getting the following error message after publishing:
Scene 1, Layer 'AS', Frame 1, Line 5, Column 29
1067: Implicit coercion of a value of type int to an unrelated type String.
Can you suggest any fixes or workarounds? I also have Flash 4.0. Can i downsave the file? If so, how?

Thank you. I think that did fix the original two errors. But now upon test of the file, I get some new errors:

Calling oracle function in OMB script

Can anyone please tell me how can i get the returned value of an oracle function in OMB script. or how can i get the value into OMB variable and use it.
Basically i want to set the properties of OWB mapping via OMB script.
Following OMB code sets the max error limit of a mapping.
OMBALTER MAPPING 'MAP_DATA' SET PROPERTIES (MAXIMUM_NUMBER_OF_ERRORS) VALUES ('100')
i dont want to hard code the value 100 rather i want this value to be returned from a function.
If it is not possible then plz tell me how can i set MAXIMUM_NUMBER_OF_ERRORS property of OWB mapping via sql or pl/sql.
Any type of clue will be highly appreciated.

Here is my bare-bones OMB SQL Library to allow you to do pure SQL calls from within OMB+. All I have ever used it for is to run queries, so I don't have a library procedure for calling a function, however if your function is SQL-callable (e.g. select my_func() from dual) then it would work. Either that or you'll want to augment this library to build a procedure that will call and return the results from a java preparedStatement. It's something I've been meaning to do, but haven't got around to it yet.
All you should need to do is save this as it's own tcl file and then source it at the top of your own script, or embed it into your script.
EDIT: Here is a page with some sample code on using java.sql.CallableStatement to call a Pl/SQL procedure from Java which should certainly do the trick for you in conjunction with the basic session control in my library.

Dot source/calling a function with switch from the cmd line

This is driving me crazy and I know its something really obvious.
If I have an example script like so, called myexample.ps1

I have two issues
1) How do I correctly write the code so that the script can be called with either or both parameters. The switch ($Myswitch) is the one that is really causing me issues.
2) Is invoking it the easiest method/best/most common method of calling it via a batch file
Here's my understanding
a) I could dot source it (. .\myexample.ps1) to load the functions into the current session, then call the function
Main -email hello.com -Myswitch
or
Main -email hello.com
b) or I could Invoke it, which I think is my preference as my final goal here is for it to be called via a batch file in a scheduled task

Any push in the right direction will be appreciated :)

Why the function? Just call the file. We don't "Invoke" scripts. Just call the script..

Help with action script 2.0

I'm a beginner with flash. I created a flash file on my own.
I also created a flash file using a slideshow program. Generally I
like this program. I can insert them into my html with no problem.
I want to load the slideshow.swf file into an empty movie
clip in the flash file I created called products.swf. It works fine
using
loadMovie("slideshow.swf", call_mb_slideshow); (where
call_mb_slideshow is a empty movieclip.)
as long as the all the files are in the same folder. But, I
need the products.swf file with the empty movieclip to be in the
parent folder AND I need the slideshow.swf and the slideshow.xml
file to be in a child folder call musicbox_slideshow. When I change
the code to this:
loadMovie("musicbox_slideshow/slideshow.swf",
call_mb_slideshow);
It loads the slideshow.swf file into the movieclip fine, BUT
it doesn't know where to find the slideshow.xml file that loads the
pictures into the slideshow. It looks for it in the parent folder,
not the child folder.
How do I write the script in products.swf so that it knows
where the slideshow.xml file is? I cannot change the slideshow.swf
file code in any way. I need to do it from products.swf.

I can use this code from html. I'm able to say where the swf
and xml file are. I just don't know how to do this using action
script.

Help with Action Scripting

I have been developing a site and I am having issues with
something that is probably very simple. I have created several
movieclips that expand and contract as you roll over them. I wanted
to make a function/method so that when the user clicks, it takes
them to another scene in this movie. Here is the action script I am
using:
on(release) {
gotoAndPlay("Scene 9");
Unfortunately, this is not working. I thought that perhaps
the on(release) method wouldn't work on these movie clips based on
the action script I was already using to expand/contract the boxes,
but the following code works just fine:
on(release) {
getURL("home.html");
I'm stumped. Can anyone offer a suggestion as to what I
should do? Here is the web address of the page I'm working on, it
has the movie I'm having an issue with.

another page of the site. The image of the pearl ring next to that
is the one that will not advance to another scene in the movie.

actually this make me confuse sometime,

so, gotoAndPlay can accept 2 arguments only when use without
"something dot" in front.
if Andrew's script is attached to an instance of button
symbol, we can use

Since Andrew will attach the script to an instance of
movieclip, he can only use:
on(release) {
gotoAndPlay("Scene 9");
where he have to give the label to the 1st frame of "Scene 9"
same name with the scene.

I heard many people said "scene"+"script"="buggy", but some
time I get it "works". What is your opinion?

Problem with action script calculations

I have a simple action script 3 code that will not calculate the correct answer on my PC. I'm running flash cs5 on Window 7 OS. I can move the file to another machine running flash cs4 and it works, but when I run it on my laptop, I get funky answers. see cold below. I have uninstalled and reinstalled cs5 , run the cleanscript for cs5 and cs4 to make sure everything was removed. I have uninstalled and reinstalled flash player. but nothing seems to work. Any help will be appreciated. It acts like Action Script 3 is corrupt or something else that related to Action Script 3. Everything else seems to work. I also have a preloader running with the same issue. It is should be showing the percentage completed but it go 2 5 50 4 32 or something funky like that. Please help.

of course not. JavaScript is interpreted by the client (web browser) while the Java code in a JSP resides on the server. don't confuse the web application's architecture.

Looks not like a sensible approach though - and begs for justification as to why this approach is needed. What justification do you have?
