Campus cluster for services inside LDOMs

Hi,
Is it possible to set up campus cluster using Hitachi Truecopy replication between two LDOMs running on pair of T4 servers ?
I'm thinking about 4-5 LDOMs on each T4 with Solaris Cluster frameworks installed in LDOM and connected in campus cluster configuration running NFS on ZFS formatted LUNs. To be able to failover I need HORCM to be able access command device on storage which should be raw LUN.
What actually concerns me is if it possible to pass raw LUNs to LDOMs necessary for HORCM operations ? We do not have T4 server with attached storage yet and I can not check if ldm add-io can operate on LUN level and not on HBA level and I yet to
Solaris Cluster in control domain and failover of LDOMs does not provide what I'm trying to achieve - HA for service running inside LDOM, whether it's NFS or Oracle.
Thanks !

Storm,
OK, I'm not sure I understood this statement:
"We can have same LUNs AA and BB zoned to node B and they also will be ReadWrite."
Suppose your zpool is called mypool. Further, suppose that that your LUN AA appears as /dev/did/dsk/d7 and LUN BB as /dev/did/dsk/d8. You would create the zpool as follows:
# zpool create mypool \
mirror /dev/did/dsk/d7 /dev/did/dsk/d8
You would then create a resource group and resource to control this.
# clrg create -n nodeA,nodeB my-storage-rg
# clrt register SUNW.HAStoragePlus
# clrs create -g my-storage-rg -t SUNW.HAStoragePlus \
-p zpools=mypool my-storage-hasp-rs
# clrg online -emM my-storage-rg
That would bring your zpool online on nodeA. The zpool would be read/write accessible from nodeA only. If you then switched the resource group to nodeB using:
# clrg switch -n nodeB my-storage-rg
Then you could read/write to the zpool from nodeB.
There is no way, either with mirrored zpools and HAStoragePlus or TrueCopy/UR & HORCM that you can read/write to a zpool from both nodes concurrently.
If someone forcible imported the zpool onto the other node, then you are very likely to suffer permanent zpool corruption. But then, if someone dd'ed over your root disk, that would be fatal too ;-)
With regards to replication via TC/UR and ZFS, the important feature for preserving data consistency is the UR journal. As far as I remember, these are only applicable to Universal Replicator when set up for asynchronous replication. I don't think UR supports journals with sync replication. However, since this isn't an Oracle product, I would strongly recommend you check my statements with Hitachi - things may have changes since I last spoke to them.
Hope that helps,
Tim

  • Cluster ready services also for download?

    Hi,
additionally to Oracle Database 10g (for Solaris) download, is it possible to download also "Cluster REady Services Release 1 CD-ROM"?
    Hi
    Michal

Bring up the big Downloads page. (Big red button in the heading gets you there)
Nowadays the product's called Clusterware, because "With Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2), Cluster Ready Services, or CRS, is now called Oracle Clusterware.".

  • Manually creating the oracle services inside windows services

    Hi All,
After discussion we came up for the following conclusion and would like to have further discussion on the topic.
    - We have node 1 windows 2003 enterprise sp2 available on one of the server which has Oracle 11g R1 having custom database installed on it.
    - All database and Oracle server files are stored on shared storage.
    - It created windows services inside which we will be registered under cluster administrator
    - We will install Oracle 11g R1 on node 2 (Passive node of windows cluster) with the software only option.
    - We will manually create the oracle services on this node with the same name as we have on node 1.
In case the node 1 will be failed, node 2 will fail over and will become active node for the users.
Is there any one involve in such practice? did it work ?
    Thanks,

I am installing 10g client and create an ORCL service using the Net configuration Assistant. I don't see this service when i open ontrol panel/administrative tools/services. Is this normal?
I thought i wld see it and start the service and listener. Some confusion here.... first of all, listener is a server process, which listens for incoming calls, you don't have it on a client.
Secondly, the service you created with Net Configuration Assistant is just an alias you'll use to connect a remote database to, and does not create any Windows service. You can find its specifications within tnsnames.ora file, in ORACLE_HOME\network\admin directory.
    I'd read some documentation

    Hi all,
I am trying for RAC – 10gR1 (10.1.0.2) using two machines with Windows 2000 Server. For this I need to install Oracle Cluster Ready Services – Release 1 (10.1.0.2).

  • During the installation of grid infra(cluster) for Oracle 11.2 RAC one.

Good Day All, and thanks in advance…
During the installation of grid infrastructure(cluster) for Oracle 11.2 RAC One Node on AIX6.1 ( PROD) , ASM used. I am getting below errors when executing ./root.sh
Upon investigation ,I managed to get note: 1068212.1 from the support oracle site ( see below for details) . I might be hitting Unpublished bug 8670579. I also logged Severity 2 SR with Oracle support to get the bug/patch fix and no one has attended the call.
This might be configuration issue or otherwise , if you have experienced the same issue please assist ? ( if you need more logfiles please feel free to request)….
I ran the Cluster Verify Check – all passed.
    Many Thanks

    Hi,
We are also trying to install 11.2.0.2 Grid infrastructure for Oracle RAC One Node on AIX 6.1. We did a POC in our lab environment and after much struggle got that working. Now we are building 4 clusters in the production environment and the first cluster installation failed while running root.sh on node2. We already have a Sev1 ticket open with Oracle Support but have not heard anything.
Here is root.sh output from node2. The two node names are p01dou416 and p01dou417.
CRS-4402: The CSS daemon was started in exclusive mode but found an active CSS daemon on node p01dou416, number 1, and is terminating

Also you clusterware installation installs to an ORACLE_HOME.
Oracle does only make a differentiation, if it has to be clear, that you got a clusterware home and a database home.
Normally if a patch is referring to $ORACLE_HOME (and the patch can be used for clusterware & database), it just means the installation directory of the oracle software installed.

    Hi,
after the crsctl start crs you have to wait a while till the clusterstack is up. You just issued crsctl check crs a little to early.
To see the startup stack do a crsctl stat res -t -init.
If not everything in crsctl stat res -t -init goes to online after a while, then you have a problem, which has to be analyzed.
However if crsctl stat res -t -init show everything is started use crsctl stat res -t to see the other processes coming online.
Can you post the crsctl stat res -t -init (if not everything is online) or a crsctl stat res -t.
Only thing which I find strange is that oifcfg does not list a PUBLIC interface...

  • CF8/JRun4 Cluster for Load Balancing

Does anyone have an example of how to set up a CF8/JRun4
    cluster for load balancing?
    I have three servers:
    x004 - Linux - Apache2 (10.0.0.54,10.1.0.54)
    x020 - Linux - JRun4/CF8 (10.0.0.70,10.1.0.70)
    x021 - Linux - JRun4/CF8 (10.0.0.71,10.1.0.71)
Every server in our network has two network cards. One
network card is attached to 10.0.x.x which has a gateway to the
internet and runs at 100Mbps and is firewalled, and the other is
attached to 10.1.x.x which runs at 1Gbps and is internal with no
gateway. I'm trying to set it up so web traffic arrives on
10.0.0.54 into Apache and mod_jrun20 bootstraps a cluster named
STST using 10.1.0.54 which consists of STST_x020 coldfusion server
running on x020 and STST_x021 running on x021. I want the
communications between JRun4 on x020 and x021 to occur on the
10.1.x.x network and eventhough JRun and ColdFusion will only use
the 10.1.x.x network I still need the 10.0.x.x network card
attached for other purposes which require a gateway. I have
installed JRun4/CF8 about 10 times already and it seems I have no
control over what network JRun4 clusters on... sometimes it will
communicate on one, sometimes the other and without being able to
set which network is being used there always seems to be "network
error" on at least one of the two CF8 servers. I was able to get
everything working fine by disabling the network cards on the
10.0.x.x network and re-installing everything... but as soon as I
added the network cards back the whole thing was broken again.
How is this supposed to work? Most of the examples are either
no clustering or clustering on the same machine with Apache running
on the same box... I don't see any clustering across machines
    examples.
How do I install a connector on a web server which doesn't
have JRun on it and get wsconfig to connect to a multi-machine
cluster when wsconfig only accepts a single IP address as a host
and the cluster is not listed?
How do I get JRun to bind to a specific network card?
Does this work if I choose a J2EE server other than JRun?
Any help anyone can provide is greatly appreciated. I'm
getting close to giving up which means staying on the non-clustered
environment and figuring out how we can deal with scalability by
    switching to something else.

    The article at
    http://www.adobe.com/go/1e8e9170
is specific to configuring two or more cluster nodes that reside on
separate networks, e.g. 10.0.1.0/24 and 10.0.2.0/24. (The article
doesn't state it, but you can only use unicast peers if your
cluster nodes host a single instance of JRun or multiple instances
of JRun in the same cluster domain. When performing unicast
discovery, JRun looks for all Jini groups and not just the cluster
    group.)
Anyhow, that's not your problem. The simplest solution is you
    haven't enabled the jrun.servlet.jrpp.JRunProxyService service. I'm
most familiar with the Windows version of JRun, but I'm assuming
the directory structure is similar across platforms. In
    <jrun_root>/servers/<name>/SERVER-INF/jrun.xml, set the
    deactivated attribute of the jrun.servlet.jrpp.JRunProxyService
service to false and restart JRun. You should now see JRun
listening on the appropriate port. (The default for the first
manually created instance is 51000.) You can limit the proxy
service to a single interface using the interface attribute.
If you have enabled the proxy service, verify your security
    settings in <jrun_root>/lib/security.properties. It's usually
best to limit access to specific hosts. Comment out the
jrun.subnet.restriction parameter and set the jrun.trusted.hosts to
the IP address of your web server, e.g. 10.1.0.54.
Forcing all JRun processes/services to listen on a single
interface isn't difficult, but it does require modifying quite a
few configuration files by hand. If you need assistance with that,
    I can elaborate.
Configuring the JRun module under Apache is pretty
straightforward. If you're not using virtual hosts, it's very
simple. If you are using virtual hosts, it's still simple, but your
JRun configuration can be virtual host-specific.
On your Apache server, you'll want to create a directory
structure for the JRun module. I'll assume
/opt/jrun/lib/wsconfig/1, but you can use anything you want. Once
the directory structure is created, extract the appropriate JRun
module from wsconfig.jar to the new directory. You're most likely
interested in the Apache 2.0 module,
    wsconfig.jar/connectors/apache/intel-linux/prebuilt/mod_jrun20.so.
Let's assume you've extracted the module to
    /opt/jrun/lib/wsconfig/1/mod_jrun20.so. Your Apache service account
should have read, write, and execute permissions on the
    /opt/jrun/lib/wsconfig/1 directory.
The JRun module configuration is normally appended to your
current httpd.conf file by wsconfig. Here's a sample configuration:
    LoadModule jrun_module
    "/opt/jrun/lib/wsconfig/1/mod_jrun20.so"
    <IfModule mod_jrun20.c>
    JRunConfig Verbose false
    JRunConfig Apialloc false
    JRunConfig Ssl false
    JRunConfig Ignoresuffixmap false
    JRunConfig Serverstore
    "/opt/jrun/lib/wsconfig/1/jrunserver.store"
    JRunConfig Bootstrap 10.1.0.70:51000
#JRunConfig Errorurl <optionally redirect to this URL on
    errors>
    #JRunConfig ProxyRetryInterval 600
    #JRunConfig ConnectTimeout 30
    #JRunConfig RecvTimeout 30
    #JRunConfig SendTimeout 30
AddHandler jrun-handler .jsp .jws .cfm .cfml .cfc .cfr
    .cfswf
    </IfModule>
You may also want to update your DirectoryIndex directive
with an appropriate index page, e.g. index.cfm.
After the first request to a page handled by the JRun module
is received, the module will query the boostrap server,
10.1.0.70:51000, for a list of cluster peers. If you've configured
your cluster correctly, a line similar to following will be written
    to /opt/jrun/lib/wsconfig/1/jrunserver.store:
    proxyservers=10.1.0.70:51000;10.1.0.71:51000
You can create/edit this file manually as well.
Unfortunately, the bootstrap option only accepts one server. If
your bootstrap server is down, the JRun module will use the values
in jrunserver.store directly, if the file exists.
Here's a complete list of JRun module options:
    metrics *
    debugger *
    ssl *
    verbose
    traceflags
    serverstore
    bootstrap
    errorurl
    apialloc
    ignoresuffixmap
    proxyretryinterval
    connecttimeout
    recvtimeout
    sendtimeout
    sslcalist
Options flagged with an asterisk can only be configured at
the Apache server level. All other options can be configured at the
server level and/or the virtual host level. The usage of these
options is in the JRun documentation, and the JRun module source
code is included in wsconfig.jar. Keep in mind that versions of the
JRun module shipped prior to ColdFusion 8 were coded to assign the
connecttimeout and sendtimeout options to the socket connection
timeout. Whichever option appeared last in your configuration ended
up as the final value. This has been fixed in ColdFusion 8 and
presumably the next release of the JRun updater.
I think that's a good start. If you need more information or
can't find what you need in the JRun or ColdFusion documentation,
    let me know.
If you're looking for resiliency, I highly recommend
expanding your configuration to include a second web server and a
hardware load-balancer (preferably one that supports redudancy via
multiple paths and devices, e.g. devices from Cisco, F5, or Foundry
Networks). Often, however, running Apache on the ColdFusion
server(s) provides adequate performance, and round-robin DNS
records coupled with the ability to update DNS quickly in the event
of a failure may be all you need for load-balancing and
    failover.

  • Campus cluster with storage replication

    Hi all..
we are planning to implement a campus cluster with storage replication over a distance of 4km using remote mirror feature of sun storagetek 6140.
Primary storage ( the one where quorum resides ) and replicated secondary storage will be in separate sites interconnected with dedicated single mode fiber.
The nodes of the cluster will be using primary storage and the data from primary will be replicated to the second storage using remote mirror.
Now in case the primary storage failed completely how the cluster can continue operation with the second storage? what is the procedure ? how does the initial configuration look like?
    Regards..
    S

    Hi,
a high level overview with a list of restrictions can be found here:
    http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-2971/6n57mi28m?q=TrueCopy&a=view
More details how to set this up can be found at:
    http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-2971/6n57mi28r?a=view
The basic setup would be to have 2 nodes, 2 storageboxes, TrueCopy between the 2 boxes but no crosscabling. The HAStoragePlus resource being part of a service resource group would use a device that had been "cldevice replicate"ed by the administrator. so that the "same" device could be used on both nodes.
I am not sure how a failover is triggered if the primary storage box failed. But due to the "replication" mentioned above, SC knows how to reconfigure the replication in the case of a failover.
Unfortunately, due to lack of HDS storage in my own lab, I was not able to test this setup; so this is all theory.
    Regards
    Hartmut
PS: Keep in mind, that the only replication technology integrated into SC today is HDS TrueCopy. If you're thinking of doing manual failovers anyway, you could have a look at the Sun Cluster Geographic Edition which is more a disaster recovery like configuration that combines 2 or more clusters and is able to failover resource groups including replication; this product already supports more replication technologies and will even more in the future. Have a look at http://docsview.sfbay.sun.com/app/docs/coll/1191.3

  • Linux server logs Cluster Ready Services completed waiting on dependencies

    hi all
we run oracle 10g RAC on two nodes of SLES 10 SP2 Itanium.
on node 1 of the db node I see this message.
Mar 13 15:35:03 odbs1 logger: Cluster Ready Services completed waiting on dependencies.
This message has appeared for the second time in 3 days. the server is behaving normally. Could someone please let me know what exactly is the cause.
i tried to google a bit but i am not an expert in RAC
Could someone please let me know if this is a major issue or is it a generic message for something

    Hi,
It means that the CRS not came up on startup and you put it online manualy.
Check your ocssd.log for messages like it
    [ CSSD]2007-09-13 15:43:00.038 [1147169120] >TRACE: clsc_send_msg: (0x7271b0) NS err(12571, 12560), transport (530, 113, 0)
If they exists, the explanation is: The network on OS startup is slower than CRS and the CRS cannot communicate with others nodes with interconnect. To avoid split brain problem, it kills himself causing automatic start of CRS fails.
This problem could be solved add a sleep on /etc/rc.d/rc3.d/SXXXinit.crs before line $ID/init.cssd autostart. Try sleep 15, sleep 20 and test restart of node.
You can see it on My Oracle Suporte note ID 459169.1
    I hope it helps!!

  • Include Service inside application bundle?

I read a brief note in the Dev docs that you can include Services inside your application bundle to distribute them with your app.
Is this possible with the newer Automator-created Services?
Where should they be stored in the bundle?
When I peek inside bundles of other apps that provide services, such as BBedit, I don't see any Service files.
I've tried this a bit but could not get them to show up in the Services menu after logout.
    Thanks,
    Joe

Services for the App/Services menu and contextual menu? They're better and more prolific than ever.

  • Web-service inside a DataTemplate

    Hi.
Is there a way to include the result from a web-service inside a DataTemplate? you can use <dataQuery><sqlStatement> for a SQL Statement, but is there a tag for querying a web-service (calling a specific method)?
    *[url http://www.java-forums.org/blogs/advanced-java/collection/]Java collection*

    Hi Daniel,
As per the latest documentation :
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E12844_01/doc/bip.1013/e12187/T421739T434255.htm#3503342
There is not such XML element to call a webservice method.
Nevertheless you can still do this either:
    - Create a store procedure in DB and within this proc call the webservice method, then you can call this procedure/function within your SQL statement in your data template.
    - Or create a java servlet and from within this call your webservice and finally in your data template call the URL that invokes the webservice using the URL element.
Just some ideas to get around what you want.
    regards
    Jorge

    hello everybody
i wouldlike to know the main advantage and disadvantage of layer 2 vpn deployment for service provider perspective compared to layer 3 vpn regarding security, configuration, troubleshooting, flexibility.
is there difficulty for controlling and policing traffic in layer 2 vpn vs layer 3 vpn?? for exemple can i filter layer 4 tcp port (telnet traffic) in llayer 2 vpn tunnels or vpls???
    thank you

Not too sure how to answer that as they're used in different manners, what are exactly your doubts? What do you think to use them to? What do you imagine your customers need?
Just so I understand, why would you filter telnet traffic inside an L2VPN?
