Can a Deployment Plan Modify Values in a .properties file?

I'm using JDeveloper 11.1.1.6.0 and Weblogic 10.3
I am currently in the process of creating a plan.xml file for our application, but we have a few properties files that contain configuration information. This information needs to change depending on the environment that we are deploying to. Is it possible to do this through a plan.xml or would we have to use some other method?
Example:
File: conf.properties
------start file-----
A=1
B=2
C=3
-----end file-----
We would need to be able to change the value of B to be 5 instead of 2 if we are deploying to our test environment.

As far as I can tell, what you linked is just using the deployment plan's XPath to update a value in the web.xml which is standard procedure. However, I am curious of being able to update values in a .properties file which is not an XML file, and thus can't be read by XPath. Is this possible or can the deployment plans only modify XML documents?
[EDIT] From what I've been finding it seems I've confirmed that it can only override XML files, or atleast I've found no indications that it can do anything other than XML files. Though now I'm having issues of it overriding custom XML files. EG: I have a wf_client_config.xml file in the WAR's class path that I need to update depending on the environment, but have not been able to have the deployments recognize the override that I have listed in the plan.xml.
So I guess now my question is, do I ened to do anything special to get it to recognize an XML file on the class path vs a standard xml file such as web.xml? Or should I make this a new topic?

[EDIT 2] Marking this as resolved, it appears as though the plan.xml will only modify settings that could be modified by Weblogic naturally and it is not able to modify items that are on the classpath of the application.

  • How can i get the all values from the Property file to Hashtable?

    how can i get the all values from the Property file to Hashtable?
    ok,consider my property file name is pro.PROPERTIES
    and it contain
    8326=sun developer
    4306=sun java developer
    3943=java developer
    how can i get the all keys & values from the pro.PROPERTIES to hashtable
    plz help guys..............

    The Properties class is already a subclass of Hashtable. So if you have a Properties object, you already have a Hashtable. So all you need to do is the first part of that:Properties props = new Properties();
    InputStream is = new FileInputStream("tivoli.properties");
    props.load(is);

  • How can i pass the Input value to the sql file in the korn shell ??

    Hi,
    How can i pass the Input value to the sql file in the korn shell ??
    I have to pass the 4 different values to the sql file and each time i pass the value it has to generate the txt file for that value like wise it has to generate the 4 files at each run.
    can any one help me out.
    Raja

    Can you please more elaberate., perhaps you should more elaberate.
    sqlplus is a program. you start it from the korn shell. when it's finished, processing control returns to the korn shell. the korn shell and sqlplus do not communicate back and forth.
    so "spool the output from .sql file to some txt file from k shell, while passing the input parameters to the sql file from korn shell" makes no sense.

  • How Can i specify multiple server names in rwservlet.properties  file?

    How Can i specify multiple server names in rwservlet.properties file without clustering?
    I am using oracle 10g Application server. we have 3 servers Repsvr1, RepSvr2 and RepSvr3. Now i need to configure rwservlet.properties file to point to these servers based on any running report. i got 3 keymap files with reports info.
    Sample entry in the key map file is:
    key1: server=Repsvr1 userid=xxx/yyy@dbname report=D:\Web\path1\path2\reports\Report1.rdf destype=cache desformat=PDF %*
    key2: server=Repsvr2 userid=xxx/yyy@dbname report=D:\Web\path1\path3\reports\Report2.rdf destype=cache desformat=PDF %*
    rwservlet.properties file letting me to enter only one servername. Even though i merged all 3 keymap files into 1, still i have the server name issue. If i leave the server to the default name still i am getting the below error.
    REP-51002: Bind to Reports Server Repsvr1 failed. However, i know the default rep_<servername> would be used incase we dont have SERVER=<value> parameter in the rwservlet.properties file.
    If i specify the servername in the rwservlet.properties file then only Repsvr1 reports are working fine and other 2 server reports are giving the same error like
    REP-51002: Bind to Reports Server <<Server Name>> failed.
    how can i configure the info which will work all 3 reports. 2 Port servers are invoking using oracle forms and report server is invoking using ASP pages.
    If i specify Server name & Key map file in rwservlet.properties one at a time, all the reports are working without any error, whenever i am trying to integrate all 3 to workable i am getting binding error. if i exclude the server from rwservlet.properties still i am getting the same error.

    My RELOAD_KEYMAP setting is YES only.As i said If i specify Server name & Key map file in rwservlet.properties one at a time, all the reports are working without any error.
    keymap file entries
    key1: server=Repsvr1 userid=xxx/yyy@dbname report=D:\Web\path1\path2\reports\Report1.rdf destype=cache desformat=PDF %*
    key2: server=Repsvr2 userid=xxx/yyy@dbname report=D:\Web\path1\path3\reports\Report2.rdf destype=cache desformat=PDF %*
    If i use http://server.domain:port/reports/rwservlet? cmdkey = key1 should bring the report from Repsvr1 and http://server.domain:port/reports/rwservlet? cmdkey = key2 should bring the report from Repsvr2, but i am getting an error from Repsvr2 saying that REP-51002: Bind to Reports Server repsvr2 failed.
    Only Servername Repsvr1 is in rwservlet.properties file. Now what is the best option to by pass the server from rwservlet.properties file and should be from keymap file. if i comment server name in rwservlet.properties file still i am getting REP-51002: Bind to Reports Server <<Server Name>> failed error for both keys.

  • Changing values in a properties file

    Hi,
    I'm working in a Struts environment and I am trying to open a .properties file in my WEB-INF/classes/ (*.properties) directory and allow the user to change those values and write them back.
    I access the properties by pulling them out in a Map:
    Locale locale = LocaleContextHolder.getLocale();
             ResourceBundle resBundle = ResourceBundle.getBundle(SP_PROPERTIES_FILE,locale);
             Enumeration propertyKeys = resBundle.getKeys();
              Map spProperties = new HashMap();
             while (propertyKeys.hasMoreElements()) {
                 String key = (String) propertyKeys.nextElement();
                 if(key != null){
                      key = key.trim();
                 String value = resBundle.getString(key);
                 if(value != null ){
                      value = value.trim();
                 spProperties.put(key, value);
             I then change the values depending on their keys, but it is after this step I am unsure how perform the write back.
    Thanks,

    A ResourceBundle is a read-only object. It doesn't provide any methods for updating. If you want to allow your users to update the data, the code will have to update the underlying properties file. This also is impossible if your application server doesn't expand the application but runs it from a WAR or EAR archive.
    [Edit] And even at that, allowing users to update properties files in a multi-user environment is risky -- if two users update the file at the same time, it's easy to lose one of the updates.

  • Modifying value in external xml file

    Hi,
    I've been searching around for some time and haven't been able to find the solution to what I think should be a simple problem.
    I have an xml file that I need to change the value of an item from False to True.
    The structure of the file is:
    <data>
    <system-page>
    <id>1</id>
    <other fields></other fields>
    <dynamic-metadata>
         <name>publish</name>
         <name>yes</name>
    </dynamic-metadata>
    <dynamic-metadata>
         <name>frontpage</name>
         <name>no</name>
    </dynamic-metadata>
    </system-page>
    <!---tons more system pages--->
    </data>
    I am able to read the file and get to the exact line as such:
    <cffile action="read" file="E:\test.xml" variable="newsFile" charset="utf-8"/>
    <cfset newsXML=XmlParse(newsFile)/>
    <cfset arrItemNodes = XmlSearch(newsFile,"/data/system-page[@id='1']/dynamic-metadata[name='frontpage']/value")/>
    I'm not sure how to edit and save the value. I imaging it's something like this:
    <cfset arrItemNodes[1].xmlText = 'True'>
    But is there anyway to save this information in the xml file at the right location?
    Any help is appreciated.

    Is it because I'm sending in an array?
    Yes.  If you check the documentation  linked above, it explains the function expects an "a simple value such as an integer, a binary object, or an XML document". An array is not any of those types. So that is why you are getting the error. You need to pass in the whole xml document.
    I don't see how the write action would know where to embed my edit in the XML file.
    Correct. It would not know. You need to write the entire xml document back to the file (ie xmlText).
    Not sure which CF version, I think 8? Obviously I'm new to CF.
    Welcome to CF. You can find out your server version by cfdumping the SERVER scope.  Cfdump is a great debugging tool.  Also, if you are new be sure to bookmark the online documentation.  It is my first stop when I have questions about a function or tag. Still use it most every day :-)
    ie      <cfdump var="#server#">

  • Can I deploy the entity bean in different jar files?

    I have an application EAR, which contains several JARs. I have an entity bean A that has relationships with 2 other different entity beans B and C in the same DB. Now, I have to deploy this entity A together with B in AB.jar, and A with C in AC.jar. Both AB.jar and AC.jar are modules of the same application EAR file. They all use the same data sources to the same database, and named by different <ejb-name>.
    I have no problem with deploying the app to WebLogic 8.1. But the JSP page accessing entity A got errors. Sometime, it got error complaining that the container-generated ejbFindAccount mehtod is abstract.
    My questions are,
    Can an entity bean be defined twice in 2 different jars?
    When container load AB.jar and AC.jar, does it generate the finder methods twice?
    I guess there are some name conflicts going on here. What should I do to avoid it?
    Any comments are very much appreciated.

    Thanks for your answer, but how can I use it in connection with relationships?

  • Can anyone help me modify a fully functional SWF file to behave slightly differently?

    I have a working SWF file which I used a free decompiler to get to the ActionScript of.  I do not know Actionscript, but I know enough other languages to have a vague understanding of whats going on.  I am not certain if this is Actionscript 1 or 2 or 3 honestly so I simply posted here.  The main thing I need to understand is the order in which code is executed within Actionscript.  What I'm trying to do is make a telnet applet which initializes with a giant connect button simply connect by default upon initializing and then if the connection is lost of disconnected function as normal and display the connect button again.  I believe this should be a fairly simply modification just moving a few lines of code around, I just do not have a good grasp on ActionScript.  If someone out there is willing to work briefly on this with me, you would have my gratitude greatly, or even any brief explanation anyone can offer as to what I may want to look into. It looks similar to java, but I just am not sure on too much to want to try to tackle this blindly.

  • Remote deploys from Windows to Linux fail with deployment plans on WLS 10.0

    Hi there,
    We're using WLS 10.0.1 running in a RHEL environment (actually CentOS release 4.7 for development), and attempting to perform remote deploys from Windows work stations using the weblogic.Deployer ant task.
    It works fine when not using deployment plans, or when performing a remote deploy from a unix based work station such as a Mac. However, introducing a deployment plan causes a failure only when run from Windows.
    The log trace follows:

    Note the file path that cannot be found: "\opt\bea\user_projects\domains\obportal_domain\servers\AdminServer\upload\obpservices\plan\steves-deployment-plan.xml ".
    Of course this file does actually exist when the correct path separators are used.
    Is this a bug? Is there anything we can do about it? The chances of us upgrading WLS are very remote unfortunately.
    Thanks in advance,

    This is something you should definitely file an Oracle support ticket for. It's entirely possible there's a patch for this.

  • Best approach to change values in .properties file dynamically

    Hi ,
    I am using Jdev 11.1.1.5 . I wanted to change the values used in .properties file (like say a fe email addresses which happen to be different for Test/Prod/Dev instances) dynamically using something like a deployment plan.
    One way to do the same is to include it in a shared libary and do a one -time deployment to the server.
    Are there any better ways like a deployment plan , which unfortunately I think can change values dynamically on for web.xml , weblogic.xml type of files.

    I am using a shared library which takes care of the cases mentioned above.

  • Properties file not deploys the path correctly

    Hello,
    I am deploying a Web dynpro application with properties file.
    One of the properties contains a path that I am later using in my app, something like this:
    PATH =
    myserver
    folder1
    folder2
    The problem is that after deployment I see this property in the config tool with one backwards slash like this:
    PATH = \myserver
    older1\folder2\
    And I need it with
    in my app.
    Even after applying a custom value: "
    myserver
    folder1
    folder2
    " and clearing the cache it doesn't seem to work.
    I know that in java \ states that the char afterwards is special so
    realy means \ so I even tried to deploy this : PATH =
    myserver
    folder1
    folder2
    but got the same behaviour.
    Any idea why is this happening?

    Hi,
    Since you have already tried using four slashes and it didnt work.
    I thot putting space in between will give different result.
    For me, the four slash option shud have worked.
