Can a hacker be stopped through Firefox

I have had to change my passwords for FB and e-mail at least 3 times in the last couple of days. Under my FB account it shows someone in Mount Laurel, N.J. is signing into my account. I have written down the complete IP address of this hacker. They also sent e-mails to friends, oddly enough just saying hi or hello and nothing obscene, for now. How can they be stopped? I am computer illiterate so if you have a solution just be specific...and patient. Please, please help. Thanks.

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:
* Microsoft Safety Scanner
* MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware
* TDSSKiller - AntiRootkit Utility
Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.
Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

• I can no longer load website through firefox updated (tho, I can thru other search engines and browsers) fixing proxy settings didn't work. Other ideas?

I upgraded recently my firefox browser on my home computer which still runs Windows XP. I can no longer find websites thru firefox, tho, I can load websites through a google or yahoo search.
The firefox browser won't download secure or unsecure site. I type in the full name of the site, and it just hangs. I do not receive an error message.
Internet explorer continues to work fine on the computer.
I emptied my cookies and search history and updated the proxy setting to "no proxy". I still have the same problem.
I tried to uninstall and reinstall firefox with the hopes of changing the initial settings (to see if I should have disabled or abled more of the boxes). Unfortunately, the program didn't fully uninstall .. and the firefox reverts to where it was the last time I logged on.

A possible cause is security software (firewall,anti-virus) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

• Can't access AOL mail through Firefox or Safari

For the past two days I have not been able to access AOL Mail through Firefox 3.6.3 or Safari 4.0.5 browsers. The AOL homepage loads fine, but when I go to mail - the pages do not load properly. This was working fine prior and I have used AOL this way for a couple years. I have other computers and they work fine.
Today, I have tried a few different fixes. I deleted NetworkInterfaces.plist & preferences.plist from Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration and upon restart and resetting of Network settings the AOL mail page loaded properly just 1 time in Firefox. Upon restart of Firefox, the same problem returned.

Hi, have you done any Disk Maintenance lately?
Could be many things, we should start with this...
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.

• Why can't I access Facebook through Firefox? It says Account Temporarily Unavailable. It worked yesterday.

I can't access Facebook with Firefox. It worked yesterday and has worked in the past several years. It won't even come up to the log in page. Just says Account Temporarily Unavailable. Try again in a few minutes. It has been that way for the last 4 hours. I know Facebook is not down as my husband can get in.

• I can no longer download anything through firefox & I cannot seem to fix it its OK in chrome

I am receiving attachments through my emails and they will not download also I try and download movies or music and still the downloads will not work.
It was all fine up until about 2 weeks ago.
Do not recall anything happening that would have resulted in this.
Your help would be appreciated, Thanks.

I worked on this for some time trying various ways to correct the problem - and using various solutions found on the internet - but to no avail.
I then finally went to the the Add-ons Manager once again and put a 'never activate on the Open H264 Video Codec provided by Cisco Systems, Inc.' that I had activated on the 22/3/15 - this immediately fixed the problem and I was able to download files again.
Thanks to 'UnicornPoopinc' for your response and to anyone else who was giving this thought but it is now solved and perhaps this will help someone else if they happen to have the same problem.

• Can someone hack your information through an email?

I was checking my email on my Gmail app on my iPhone 5 and I opened an email from my venue coordinator. The message was an obvious scam saying that she was on vacation in Kiev, Ukraine and she was mugged, now she needs $2,200 to get home and wanted me to loan her the money. I knew this was a scam for several reasons, 1.) I know for a fact she is NOT in the Ukraine as I had just spoken to her a few days ago. 2.) She would never ask me for a personal loan since we have no personal relationship, just a business arrangement. 3.) There was a warning from Gmail at the top of the message saying "Be careful with this message. It contains content that's typically used to steal personal information." So now, my concern is, by opening this email have I exposed myself and put my information at risk? There was no link or attachment to the email, but at the end of the message it did ask me to keep checking my email because this was "her only way of contacting me." Is it possible by just opening this email I've put myself at risk?

Is it possible by just opening this email I've put myself at risk?
The short answer is no.
All apps on the iPhone / iPad are curated by app. Apple checks for malware.  There is no known malware on iPhone/iPad.
By opening the email, the sender may be able to tell your email address is valid.  This is done by including a picture in the email.  You can turn off auto retrieval of pictures if you wish.
As a point of logic,  it is impossible / difficult to prove that there is no malware on iPhone/iPad.

• Why can't I access the internet through Firefox?

I can't access the internet through Firefox. It's worked just fine for several years, but it just randomly quit working. I've tried resetting Firefox, uninstalling an reinstalling it, and allowing Firefox through the firewall.

Did you try to remove the current rules for Firefox in the firewall to make ure to create new rules for the current Firefox release?
Do a malware check with several malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.<br>
Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.<br>
All these programs have free versions.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

• I can not print my e-mail through Firefox, I can print attachment is ok. Please help

I can not print e-mail through Firefox, I can print from Google or IE, I tried about:config and reset, I am still having same problem.

What happens when you try to print: do you get an error message, or a blank/jumbled page, or just nothing?
If you are using an email site that offers a special print-formatted page, this usually opens in a pop-up window. Is there a problem with the window not opening?

• How can I get Google through Firefox to stop redirecting my search requests to commercial information providers?

As a typical example that has been plaguing me for months, I asked on Google for information about "crystal sets" and was shown the usual list of possible sources. When I clicked on the Wikipedia entry for this subject I was redirected to the commercial Tazinga site telling me where I could buy a crystal set in my area. This never happens when I go into Google through Internet Explorer on my desktop, but more than fifty percent of the time does when I go to it through Firefox. Notably, it never happens when I use Google through Firefox on my laptop. What setting or other means can I use to avoid this problem?

Sounds like search re-direct Malware or a Rootkit on that PC.

They are listed in order of efficacy.<br />(Not all programs detect the same Malware, so you may need to run them all to solve your problem.) <br />These programs are all free for personal use, but some have limited functionality in the "free mode" - but those are features you really don't need to find and remove the problem that you have.<br />
Note: If your Malware infection is bad enough and you are mis-directed to URL's other than what is posted, you may have to use a different PC to download these programs and use a USB stick to transfer them to the afflicted PC.

• I have stopped too many scripts in Firefox and I can't open any websites in Firefox anymore. I just get blank pages. What do I do now?

3 websites gave me this message:- "A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete." I chose to stop the script each time. However I have stopped too many scripts in Firefox and I can't open any website in Firefox anymore. I just get blank pages. What do I do now?

Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a Clean reinstall. This means you remove Firefox and any leftover program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps one by one:
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu) and confirm all upcoming messages.
#Now, uninstall Firefox by following the steps mentioned in the Uninstall Firefox article.
IMPORTANT: On Windows, the uninstaller has the option to remove your personal data and settings. Make sure that you do not check this option; otherwise all of your bookmarks, passwords, extensions, user customizations and other Firefox user profile data will be removed from your computer.
After uninstalling Firefox on Windows, delete the "Mozilla Firefox" program folder, located by default in one of these locations:
* (On 32-bit Windows) C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
* (On 64-bit Windows) C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#Go to the Windows Start menu and click on "Computer".
#In the Explorer window that opens, double click Local Disk (C:) to open the C:\ drive.
#Find the "Program Files (x86)" folder or "Program Files" folder.
#* On 32-bit Windows, double-click the Program Files folder to open it.
#* On 64-bit Windows, you will see a "Program Files (x86)" folder AND a "Program Files" folder. Open the Program Files (x86) folder.
#Look for a Mozilla Firefox folder. If you find one, right-click it and select Delete and confirm that you want to move the folder to the Recycle Bin.
Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
#Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
#Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
Please report back to see if this helped you!

• Updated my mac to mountain lion 10.8.3 and now my app store, mail or facetime won't open. Also, I am not longer able to play videos through firefox. I tried downloading the combo for mountain lion and it refuses to install? Can anyone help me?

updated my mac to mountain lion 10.7.8.3 and now my app store, mail or facetime won't open. Also, I am not longer able to play videos through firefox. I tried downloading the combo for mountain lion and it refuses to install saying that I need to see developer. Whenever I try to open my appstore, mail or facetime it says that the programmes need to be installed and might not be compatible with this version of mac operating system. Can anyone help me?

It's not a bad install of Mountain Lion. I've had the same thing happen to me, but it affected not only Mail, but a variety of other programs including iPhoto and MS Office, where I had to delete preferences, caches, and reinstall the OS as well as the program itself. I'm still having issues with Mail, so I've gone to another program.
Everything was fine upon the initial install. I restarted my iMac about two weeks after the install, and that's when the issues began to happen. I've reinstalled Mountain Lion twice, but the same issues arise.
As I mentioned above, you'll need to figure out which preferences are causing the issue, then reinstall the program, as a fresh reinstallation will do you no good unless you wipe the drive completely.
Here's a thread that helped me with iPhoto:

It seems that through firefox I cannot receive my emails through charter.net and have always been able to before. Also, on my facebook page, profile pictures aren't showing up on some people and on some people a totally different person is showing up. • How can I disable the mouse button 4 and 5 "forward" and "back" functions through firefox?

I've seen this problem come up on forums before but was unable to find a good solution.
When using Ventrilo, I have my speak button bound to the mouse button 4 of my logitech mouse. This button is conveniently placed for gaming because it makes use of my otherwise unused right thumb, and I have been using it for years and probably couldn't adjust if i tried to change it.
Firefox uses mouse button 4 for the "back" function, meaning that if i'm on ventrilo while browsing the web with firefox, i have to remember to move the cursor to the menu bar at the bottom of my screen or go back a page. it's infuriating if i forgot, especially if i'm playing some sort of browser game at the time, as i basically have to restart whatever i'm doing.
The only solutions i've found for this involve binding mouse button 4 to some other (rarely used) key, which is an annoying solution at best, or changing some vital computer files, which I dont have the expertise to do myself and dont trust anyone else to do for me. It's an absolutely unacceptable solution anyway: why should i have to change my computer's files to disable a function which should be editable through firefox?
does anyone know how this can be fixed? or know how we can get mozilla to put this feature into some future patch, as other people have been asking them to do for YEARS?

This can be a highly frustrating problem. I just spent 45 minutes working on an email. Nearing the end I go to grab my mouse after typing and accidentally hit mouse 4 and lose everything. This isn't the first time I have lost work or an email. I would say the ONLY reason why there currently lacks a strong feedback against this is because the majority of people do not have mouse 4+5 buttons on their mice. Please add the option to just disable this "feature". It's just far to easy to accidentally hit these buttons accidentally and potentially lose a lot. I don't know anyone who actually uses these buttons anyways.
