Can a Macbook Pro be insured?

My parents wanted me to find this out because they are buying me a MBP for Christmas. They wanted to know if Apple offered some sort of insurance policy, where if the MPB broke or became stolen a new one could be provided. Or are we just SOL, if something drastic happens that isn't covered under Apple's protection plan. Any information you can provide me will be greatly appreciated.
Who knows   Windows XP   5G 60GB iPOD (Black)

Get the apple care protection plan to ensure anything internal from apple. I hightly reccomend it over other 3rd party service plans of any sort. If you have a high probability of your laptop being stolen then Go buy "Lojack" for Apple. This places an unremovable program that will send a signal to the Lojack company the next time it connects to the internet, after you report it stolen. Plus if they don't return it within 30 days, you get your money back. It costs 100 dollars or so per year, but assuming you are in high school or college, 3 or 4 hundred bucks to protect your laptop from theft could be a good idea if you travel around with it a lot.
If you shop at CompUSA they have a screen upgrade kit for the Macbooks and Macbook Pros. It's another 250 dollars, but will unconditionally replace your screen, no matter, what. Apple is fairly good with basic damage, bad pixels ect.,but they will replace a knife slach or bullet hole literally. If your parents can afford to, I would buy all three... depending on if you really need it, but the again you wouldn't be posting a question here if you didn't need something.
Applecare: Highly reccomended always
Lowjack: Reccomended if traveling often
Screen Upgrade (compusa):Reccomended if you can afford and have one in your area, and plan to be attending high risk areas, and or are clumsy ect., or just want the peace of mind that EVERYTHING will be covered. But this is not needed.
Hope this helped out. And by the way I got my MBP C2D in the Mail last week and It's amazing. Hope things go well with yours also.
P.S. Be sure to get your parents to get you a "brenthaven" laptop bag also. The brenthaven bags are the MOST protective bags on the market. They can handle droppage from 6 feet with No damage to the Laptop. They have a 50 dollar model and a 150 dollar model with more room for accessories and over 1 1/2 inches of padding on each side. All of them are protected by at Least an inch of paddin on all sides and corners, and are covered with balistic nylon. Definetly a good accessorie to protect your laptop. Again if your parents can afford it, get the more expensive 150 dollar model.
P.S.S. when buying a brenthaven bag get the one that fits "12-15" inch not "15-17" inch. the Prior will fit your MBP snugger like a glove with little room to bang around.
Happy Holidays.

  • Can a MacBook Pro stolen from me be reformatted just like Windows?

Sorry for asking this Question - I know that there have been threads in the past with similar Question but still I'm kinda confused.
-MacBook Pro OS X has been stolen from me
-I have enabled my Apple ID in it

Can a MacBook Pro stolen from me be reformatted just like Windows?
-Can the thief easily reformat its hard drive just like on Windows and install a cracked Operating System?
    Thank you Guys.

The answer is, Yes. If you enabled Find My Mac, then you could track it or erase it using your iCloud.com webpage and clicking on Find My Phone after signing in.
What To Do If Your Mac Is Lost Or Stolen
If you activated Find My Mac before it was lost or stolen, you can track it only if it is connected to the Internet by Wi-Fi. What you cannot do is track your computer using a serial number or other identifying number. You cannot expect Apple or anyone else to find your computer for you. You cannot recover your loss unless you insure your device for such loss. It is not covered by your warranty. Be sure to report the loss or theft to the local police. Have the serial number handy. If your Mac is found it cannot be returned to you if you don’t have the serial number and proof of purchase.
Find My Mac can be used from Find My Phone at iCloud.com and via Find My Phone on your iDevice.

  • How much RAM can my Macbook Pro hold MAX?

Can my Macbook Pro hold a MAX of 8GB or is it just 4GB? I'm getting different answers online and I'm a little annoyed at this point. My computer specs currently are:
    15 inch Laptop
MacBook Pro 2.6 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM.
    Got my computer in 2009.
At Crucial.com it says it can hold up to 8GB when I select my computer processor speed from their list, but I noticed it saying DDR3 (and I don't know what that means to be honest). Here's the link:
    http://www.crucial.com/store/mpartspecs.aspx?mtbpoid=7F3A5584A5CA7304
To the best of my knowledge I selected the correct computer, which I own, from their list.
Under "About This Mac", on my computer, it says DDR2 for the memory, on Crucial.com it says DDR3. As a result I'm confused and will that cause problems?
I'll be getting my RAM kit from Crucial.com, so do I buy the 4BG kit, because that's all my laptop can handle, or is it OK to get the 8GB kit, which says DDR3?
I do a lot of video and audio, so I would like to get my RAM up to 8 GB if it will.
    Thanks

One more question friend....You've been so helpful
Will these two sticks work together on my machine?
    2GB, 200-pin SODIMM, DDR2 PC2-5300 memory module
    http://www.crucial.com/store/mpartspecs.aspx?mtbpoid=B54C51B4A5CA7304
    along with a...
    4GB 200-pin SODIMM DDR2 PC2-6400 Memory Module
    http://www.amazon.com/Crucial-CT51264AC800-200-pin-SODIMM-PC2-6400/dp/B001RB21JE
So these two would add up to 6GB total. Now the ONLY DIFFERENCE that I see is the 2GB stick is PC2-5300(667Mhz)speed and the 4GB stick is PC2-6400(800Mhz)speed. I understand that my machine won't run at the 800Mhz speed that the PC2-6400 stick is designed for, cause my machine says 667 under the memory info. From what I read online, it's ok to put a higher Mhz stick in there, it will just cap at 667Mhz speed? But.......both sticks are DDR2, which is right for my computer, but will the 667 MHz with a 800 Mhz be a huge no-no to run together? At this point I think that is my main concern! If I can't do this, than I think I'll have to go with the 2x2GB kit for 4GB total, but I REALLY would like to run 6GB.
    Shew.... :P
    Thanks again!

It all depends on what your useage of Windows will be, for playing games install it in BootCamp, for word processing, spreadsheets, email. browsing etc a virtual Machne will be fine.

  • Can the MacBook Pro 13inch mid 2008 use 1333Mhz RAM?

Can the MacBook Pro 13inch mid 2008 use 1333Mhz RAM? I just bought another 4 GB of ram, but it isn't 1066Mhz like the other stick. Everything works and passes a memory test but the MacBook does not wake from sleep. It only does this when the new RAM is inserted. I have tried it on its own and with the old memory and it only does it with this faster memory installed. It says its at the same speed as any slower RAM installed.

So 1066Mhz is the only ram that works.? As in there isn't anything I need to change or the ram just isn't working correctly? I was always under the impression that ram always clocked it self down to the slowest module installed, which this one does, it just does let the Mac come out of sleep..
There may be some 1333MHz RAM that would work in your machine, but it's not what you bought, and the only way to find it would be to keep buying more and more modules until you found one that worked.  It is always safest to buy RAM with the right specs for your machine from a known-reliable, Mac-savvy vendor that offers a lifetime warranty and no "restocking fee" if you get a module that seems to be bad or go bad.
RAM that is faster than spec will often clock itself down, not to the speed of the slowest module installed, but to the speed the machine's architecture is designed to use. But it doesn't always work — not even when it appears at first to work. And there's never any benefit to installing faster-than-spec RAM, because it never speeds up the machine's operation at all.

Either take the Mac in for service at an Apple Store or AASP and pay the full service charge that includes the labor. Or purchase an equivalent battery from any good online store and put it in yourself, all for substantially less. Apple won't sell you the part directly, only to authorized service providers.
Search with your Mac's model number in PowerBookMedic.com or IFixIt.com for the part as well as the how-to.
