Can a speaker on the ip4 be repaired?

ihave had a complete disaster today. i had MY 2 DAY OLD iP4 plugged into my Bose speaker dock painting the room where my new born baby will sleep (bet you can't guess what happened next).  The paint pot went sll over my phone and the dock.  Now, the dock i'm not even going to try and get repaired it went from black to yellow in a matter if seconds. However, my phone, which by the way had it's screen protector over it still works but the speaker is very quiet, is there anyway of fixing it
Darren

No. It's not the ONLY solution, but it may well be the only solution that will preserve your warranty. Without being able to see the phone, I've no idea what it might take to clear this up. I have no idea whether paing to down inside it or is just gumming up the grill over the speaker. It may just be a matter of letting it dry and scraping the paint off the speaker grill.

Do you have a Time Machine backup or clone?  If not,
all is lost if you have in fact deleted your OSX partition
and you will have to do a reinstall from Recovery HD
    and install all else.

  • Can humming on reducing the brightness be repaired,

Has anybody had any success repairing this problem? Even on maximum brightness there is still a slight humming that remains, though much less than lowering the brightness (compared to having the display turned off, where humming is gone). I know about the downloads to lower the brightness, like Brightness Control. But is there a fix....like changing the power supply or something else. I have only two more days to decide whether to keep the machine or not, with the return policy here in France. This is the second machine with a similar problem, though the first was a bit quiter on maximum brightness.
Is there a physical fix here.
Other than that, I love the machine.

I too have exactly the same humming problem. For the time being I have a workaround that fixes two problems that I see (and hear).
    1. The screen hums progressivesly louder when the brightness is turned down.
    2. The brightness control does not go dark enough in a dimly lit room.
    Temporary Solution:
    1. Try http://www.charcoaldesign.co.uk/shades that allows you to control the brightness of the screen independently of the macos in built brightness control.
    2. Read carefully >>> to minimise the noise, but to also dim the brightness so you don't have to wear sunglasses try this. Using the standard brightness control that comes with macosx, turn the brightness control to brightest setting (yes, don't look directly into the light, it could damage your eyes ... at this point you will have a very bright screen with little or no hum. Now, start Shades, and change the brightness using the slider to your desired brightness... and listen... No Hum, even at very dim levels !!!
I also tried Spasm Softwares Brightness Control, but ditched it in favor of Shades, as BC didn't remember the brightness settings between fast switching users (yes I have to share my iMac with another person).
Let me know is this works for some of you, and especially interested about color correctness when using this workaround.
I've logged a problem with Apple Support and they said they had never heard of the problem. They had me on hold for a while and whilst on hold I found reference to the thread here. I told the support person on the phone and they too could see the public discussion thread (they were going to read it after our call -- hi there if you're reading me). Isn't it funny that they can't find any reference to "screen noise from brightness control" in their own database, but I can find it for them?

  • My iphone 4 will ring but I can not speak to the caller as when I turn the volume up or down my phone says ringer(headphones) on the display

My iphone 4 will ring but when I answer it I can not hear the caller as my phone thinks I have earphones connected and if I receive a message it vibrates but does not give me any alert tone.I have reset my phone but nothing has changed

Most likely faulty battery. Make Genius Appointment and take iPhone to Apple, battery diagnostic test by Genius takes less than 5 minutes.

  • My Daughter is 15 has Cerebral Palsy - she can't speak - IPhone??

My Daughter is 15 has Cerebral Palsy - she can't speak – Does the Iphone come with the ability for her to type in text, say in a Word.doc or a word processing app, and have it say what is typed in out loud????
This would help her communicate to the speaking world. I am angry that HP and other devices are thousands of dollars and the Iphone could be such a great new device for the “deaf/mute community -

This is too simple of a solution for it to go unnoticed by anyone including those who cannot speak.
I do use my iPhone to type short messages and hand the iPhone to people out there in "the world". It works for getting a Latte and a doughnut. Not quite as effective if I am trying to explain that odd vibration in the van to the repair guy ...
those devices that cost 7,000.00 and are a joke because they are big and clunky and embarrassing to use.
Yep. Before I retired, I used my MacBookPro with MS Office 2004 and MacSpeech. It worked, "better than nothing" but still nowhere close to "equal access". The primary problem was getting "normal" people to slow down enough to cope with my typing speed and the odd sounding voice coming out of the laptop.
What about a MacBook Air? Very sexy looking. Many "normies" will slow down and pay attention to your daughter just because the MBA is so "cool".
If you do that, be careful with the MS Office version you buy for the MBA. I have not upgraded to Office 2008 because I read that many of the features in Office 2004 were not included in Office 2008. Maybe someone else here can tell us if the Text to Speech function is still available in Office 2008? Home version or Professional version?
Off the point, for the heart, go to http://www.uhh.hawaii.edu/~ronald/AmBiblio.htm and read the paper "Against Normal Function".
Also, do a Google Search on Bob Segalman Ph.D. - Bob has CP and has done amazing work on Speech-to-Speech systems for telephone access. Good resource.

  • I'd like to speak to the organ grinder please...

    Hi everyone
I've been an Infinity customer for nearly 2 months now and on the whole, i'm a happy customer.
I did have an issue resolved a few weeks back where it turned out that my DSLAM/CAB port was faulty and i was cutover to a spare/new port and everything has since been been fine.
I actually think, looking through lots of posts, that ive been lucky and had a good 'experience'....
However, i think i speak for many, many people out there who simply just want to speak with a technical point of contact who can:-
    A. be able to identify the issue you have
    B. be able to do something there and then about the issue you have - check/reset your IP Profile or reset DSLAM port etc...
Its difficult to make direct comparisons with other providers due to their own particular way they support their products but i can only speak about the two providers i am using at the moment....O2 and BT.
I work away from home so i use O2 as my broadband provider there but have Infinity at home (was on O2 beforehand)
Im on the 'works' package with O2 so 'upto' 20meg down and 'upto' 2.5meg up...
I actually synch at 22meg down but i noticed my upload was at the 'normal' 1.3meg upload which i wasnt happy with so i called the O2 broadband tech support number (UK based i may add) and without any word of a lie, the chap spent more time authenticating my account than he did identifying that my profile needed a reset, which tooks seconds and my connection was restored to annex M in no more than 5mins total from start of the call........
Now, i'm no fanboy of either company, i just want a good/decent service for what i pay for. All i can say is that i was SO appreciative of O2 guys' support, it felt weird...but should it be?
There are a few points to note here:-
    1. I suspected i had a speed issue but wanted someone technical to speak to so they could check and confirm if there actually was a problem
    2. I had a DIRECT point of contact who could access my account/profile and actually make changes and give advice while on the phone. As O2 were connected directly to my router, we actually saw the same state changes simultaneously...My case was NEVER passed from pillar to post.
    3. My query/issue with O2 was resolved promptly but even if it hadnt been, at least i knew i was in contact with the support team who were in a position to do something.
My point being is that us new Infinity customers who dont have the ability to even check our own line/VDSL stats cant even make the most basic call as to whether any issues we have with our connection/speed is something we can discuss directly with someone who can actually make a difference....
Most of us know that BT's 1st line Front Office hasnt been the best thus far so why do they use it for technical issues unlike O2 where i had some nice chap (from the UK) who i had confidence in him actually resolving or at least managing my fault to resolution?
From reading many posts about users' experiences of Infinity, its baffling why BT havent supported this new product 'closer to home' - thats not to say that their overseas colleagues arent capable, maybe just dont have the training/skills/tools? At least let us customers have direct access to support staff who can check/reset stuff or even give us a piece of mind of what stats are on our modem/DSLAM...
come on BT, why should folk have to login and post/email the mods for any decent support???

    Solved!

    Ged,
whilst generally I agree with you a question (or two) for clarification so we can be sure we're not comparing apples with oranges
I'm not familiar with O2's product lineup but given you're on Annex M is that a business package?
Are you on an Infinity residential or business package?
On the subject of the offshore support teams my experience from the other sife of the fence is that many, many of them are very technically orientated. The problem is that the ISPs they work for don't give them access to many of the tools that are needed (they need to raise internal requests to even get line checks done in some cases) and also they are very heavily scripted & monitored in what they do/say on a call.
Sounds like O2 are operating as a contact centre rather than as a call centre which is much more preferable from the customers point of view.
DISCLAIMER: although I work in the industry I do not work for BT and any opinions given are purely my own.

You may need many other updates to retain compatibility with Lion. I suggest you reinstall Snow Leopard. Unfortunately, you will need to erase the drive first. Be sure to backup your data if you haven't done so already.
    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it.
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. After you finish Setup Assistant will complete the installation after which
you will be running a fresh install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process
by opening Software Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your
             installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

My iPod Touch will not play through external speakers when it is docked.  It only plays through it's internal speaker.  All the other functions on the iPod can be controlled by the external speakers (volume, track, etc).  How do I fix this?

    I would try in oreder:
    - Resetting the iPod:
Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restoring the iPod via iTunes.  First from backup and if problem persists, restore to factory defaults/new iPod.

  • How can I fix: problem when making or receiving calls I must be on speaker, otherwise the person on the other end can't heAr me

When making or receiving phone calls I have to be on speaker for the other person to hear me. What can I do to fix this

Had the same problem when my dock connector of the iphone got wet. The phone thought that it was docked the whole time so the mic and speaker didn't work. The iPhone actually has 2 microphones. One is at the bottom by the dock connector (which is used for normal calls), and the other is a tiny whole at the top by the headphone jack, which is used for speakerphone. I would say that either the bottom mic needs replacing, or the dock connection is faulty or damaged and it is not able to use the bottom mic.
Best bet would be to get it to Apple who will normally fix this kind of thing without fuss. Hope that helps.

  • I have a G5 power PC dual 2ghz  10.5.8 and my recording interface stopped outputting. I used 2 different interfaces and changed cables, neither solved my problem. With everything plugged up i can hear playback through the internal speaker.

I have tried System preferences, input and output. I have tried the midi controls in utilities. With everything hooked up correctly I cannot get the interface to playback through the box or record now. When i hit play I can hear the playback coming through the internal speaker on the tower. The interface previously worked fine, bought a second one and it is doing the same thing. Must be a system issue. Please help!

That can sometimes be caused by a damaged ipod photo cache.
If you remove the current ipod photo cache, does that get you past the error?
For instructions on where to find it, see the following document:
