Can any web service be called Asynchronously

Kindly tell me if Asynchronous call can be made to any web service or can we prevent our web service from being called asynchronously and if yes,how??

It depends on if you need response. CORBA has one way methods which generally called Asynchronously. You can always simulate Asynchronously call by wrapping a caller in a thread. wsimport supports Asynchronously calling attribute and can generate client artifacts accordingly.

Web service soap call connection lost in rendered form generated by stichted fragments

Hi
I have fragment which uses a webservice call to get data from database and the output is bind to fields on the fragment. these fragements are dynamically inserted in the insertion points and the fragments are stichted using assembler and the form is rendered and reader extensions are applied. when I click on the execute button of generated form the web service is not called because the connection is lost when the form is stichted and rendered.
I used the fragment in a standalone form and reader extended that form and everything works fine, the web service is called and i get the data.
can any body explain what is the problem with rendered form by stichthing the fragments, what needs to be done in case of stitched form?

Firstly thanks for reply Sir, Sir when i called this from Dot Net it's working but i called from form builder then error occured.
Error Code Is :-
[SOAPException: faultCode=soap:Server; msg=Server was unable to process request. ---> System.Data.OracleClient requires Oracle client software version 8.1.7 or greater.]
I think something wrong when Dot Net web service and oracle integration. So may be i need other tool to integrate

Hi SDS,
you recieved a http 404 error when trying to access the Sharepoint Web service. Http 404 indicates that the resource is not reachable (cf. HTTP 404 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia). There could be different reasons for that. I'd suggest rubble checking the URL of the Web service first. Try to access it from a browser on you desktop. If the URL is correc. Most likely the SAP system is not able to connect to the URL. This could, for example, be due to some firewall restrictions. You should ask a SAP Basis colleague if they are able to access the URL of the Web service from the server on which the SAP system is running.

JCD - making a web service client call from a jcd

Hi,
We would like to make web service client calls from our jcd's in Java CAPS 5.1.2 to an external web services running under a Tomcat 5.5 servlet.
What is the recommended method of calling web services from a jcd?
We attempted to import a WSDL and use the wsdl object but that failed.
One alternative I thought of is generating the client classes from Axis 1.3 and importing an external .jar file with those classes plus the necessary jar to run Axis.
Our external web services are typed as docment/literal, wrapped.

The recommended way to make Web Services calls from a Java Collaboration is to use the support for this feature in JCaps 5.1.2. This means using the WSDL as an OTD and linking it to an external web service on the connectivity map.
If you have trouble using the WSDl as an OTD you can open a support case with Sun support (http://goldstar.stc.com/support).

Can a web service query a database at set intervals?

Can someone verify if this is feasible?
I need to display live data via browsers . I would like to have the query to the database executed server side and have the web service provide the data to the browsers.
Here is what I propose :
I would like to have a web service run on a web server for an intranet.
Have the web service query a database every 20 seconds and update the data into a table or an array variable.
On the browser side I want the browser to refresh every 20 seconds with the updated data from the web service.
Any other recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Web Service : problem calling it from PDF.

Hi everyone,
I want to make a call to a web service created by SAP/ABAP.
I have the wsdl file and I created a new data connection in the Adbobe designer.
I draged and droped the data connection to the editor : so it created
2 text fields and a button.
The web service waits from the user to enter an input string and it gives back as an answer a string as output...simple, isn't it ?
I also added a button in the designer that points to the connection I created. The button is in mode "execute".
Finally, I saved all this in a PDF file.
When I double click the PDF file, I enter a string as input and press the button....Then I go an error message saying that I should specify username and password. So I changed the mode of the button from "Execute" to "Submit". I added to the URL my username and password because the web service points to a backend which is SAP.
Now I do get another error message which is : Cannot handle content type:text/xml; charset=utf-8.
I read in the doc that maybe I should use XDP ?
Can someone please explane me how to solve the problem.

The problem is caused by the fact that your web service is returning a content-type header of text/html. The reader product can only handle PDF responses from a web server. In any case, your form data is received OK by the web service; it is just the response back that Acrobat cannot handle.
To get around this, I created a little "thank you for your response" PDF file and put it on my web server. I then set my perl CGI backend script to send a simple redirect to the PDF when it gets a response. (Obviously, you would want to harvest the form values from your user before redirecting). This solved the problem for me.
My little perl script is shown below:

Can a web service be used as the datasource for a View Object?

Has anyone used a web service as the datasource for a View Object?
I am trying to do the same thing as "Publishing BC4J Components as a Web Service" example, except I want to recreate the View Objects on the client so that I can iterate through them and display them on a web page.
I probably have two choices:
1. Use the web service as the datasource.
2. Use a file as the datasource with no data and then populate the View Objects from the XML from the Web Service.
Please advise.

You can adapt the examples provided in the BC4J Toy Store demo for how to build a programmatically-populated view object to create a view object that fetches its data from a web service.
The methods that you need to override are the same for any kind of programmatically-populated view object.

Can "SPML Web Service Complex Data Type field" take multiple values ?

In Generic Technology Connector's -SPML design parameters section, Can we give multiple values in SPML Web Service Complex Data Type field?
If not, how can i call methods directly instead of calling them through a values of the "name" attribute of the "complexType" element in SPML Web Service Complex Data Type?
I need 'SPML Web Service Complex Data Type' to hold multiple values.And based on the request it has to initiate appropriate method of action.
Presently i have three methods add,modify and delete which i am calling through a single value of the "name" attribute of the "complexType" element in SPML Web Service Complex Data Type.
I want to replace this single value with multiple menthods , so that a direct interaction between the method,OIM and target can be established.

You'll need to create your own interface to the webapp database for those kind of data operations
by this, are you speaking of the internal BC database which stores web app schema data? That would be great if it were possible to update that programmatically because I need to use the List (Checkbox List) field type (for the search functionality), but I need to supply the checkbox options from a web app rather than by manually updating the list entered in the Fields view of the web app settings (shown below).
I'm curious if anyone else has tried this?
Again, my reason for needing to use the List (Checkbox List) field type is that the page which processes searches knows to expect a comma separated list for this field type and then appears to be parsing out the individual values for searching out web app items with 1 or more matching values. You're right that text fields (string and multiline) just check for 'string contains' matches, and this would be ok if I was only ever needing to search just one value at a time. Here's an example of what I might do:
Web App item field value (as recorded against the List (Checkbox List) field type:
8294877,8294878
Web App Search value (for this same field):
8294879,8294877,8294885
The search would return this web app item because the field contains 2 (1 or more) individual values even though they were entered into the search field in a different order. If this web app item were just a Text (string or multiline) field, the searched value is not a substring of the web app item's stored value, so it would not find a match. Hence the need to use Checkbox List field type.
The web app will have thousands if not 10s of thousands of records, so dumping them all into one big array or object and searching on the front-end won't be practical (though it works great on smaller datasets).

Can a Web Service be Connected to XI for Capturing Error Messages?

Several years we developed a Web Service from Sap to Sharepoint. The issue is that we often get an "Error at Target of Invocation" intermittently. The first thing we do of course is to make sure the SAP connection password has not expired. Also, whenever mapping is changed we use the Web Service to create a new WSDL file that is compatible. Importantly, we assume that the connection from a Sharepoint is being made, because to run one of the processes from Sharepoint, while connecting to SAP, there is no problem. However, when we run a different process that uses the same Sharepoint to SAP connection, we get the error at target of invocation message.
The .NET developer will sometimes recycle the Sharepoint process that clears the cache, and for now, we think, that may be the issue. Still we are not positive, and this message does not reveal the real issue. Is there a way to connect the Web Service to XI to capture any issues in between the two systems that would uncover what the real issue is?

AFAIK We can raise alerts in PI system , if any messages fail for the interface (PI to .Net Webservice). But if any connection issue occurred , Receiver server will be having more information/log traces why exactly connection occurred. I will recommend to get the trace from receiver system (Server on which Webservice was hosted) and analyze the trace and find the root cause.

Can MDM Web Services return qualifier values?

We are running MDM 5.5 SP06 Patch04 (we will be doing a technical upgrade to MDM 7 later this year).
I am investigating the MDM web services and came upon a potential problem. In the test harness, I searched for a record, specifying ALL for the result definition and everything seemed to come back except qualifiers; lookup values came back, taxonomy values came back, qualified lookup display values came back, qualified link ids came back, but no qualifier values.
I searched again on the qualified link record ids in the qualified lookup table and I got the non-qualifiers, which is the expected behavior. The qualifiers have to come back with the main table record, though.
Are qualifiers not fully supported in the MDM 5.5 web services, or am I not searching properly?

How can a web service be compliant with the WTK2.1?

I'm using WTK2.1 to develop mobile clients consuming web services.
After published a web service by Apache Axis, I use WTK2.1's Stub Generator to
generate the stub class.
As required by JSR172, I use the "document/literal" encoding style.
The web service class has only one method:

But when I use Stub Generator to generator the stub class, I get the following messages:

I am new to WTK 2.1 and I am also using Axis to generate WSDL.
one thing I figured out was to remove the namespace info behind all body tags.
for instance in your code, replace:
<wsdlsoap:body namespace="http://localhost:8080/web/services/User" use="literal"/>
by
<wsdlsoap:body use="literal"/>
and it should work. don't ask me why but it worked for me.

When I try to run the project from the J2EE engine I get an exception: java.lang.IncompatibleClassChangeError.
When debugging I found that the method that causes the trouble is the _setProperty.

This error previously only occurred if the inqmyxml.jar archive was enhanced incompatibly.
1) Terminate the SDM. Copy the inqmyxml.jar file from the deploying/lib subdirectory of the J2EE installation directory into the lib subdirectory of the SDM.
2) Make sure that you remove the original file from the lib subdirectory.
3) In particular, the file must not remain renamed in the lib subdirectory. Then restart the SDM and repeat the deployment by selecting "Restart".
