Can app developers really delete negative reviews in Blackberry AppWorld?

I was browsing AppWorld, and concerned when I looked at StickyBoard Notes HD, by Joey Beechey.
In his description, he writes, "ALL REVIEWS THAT ARE JUST SAYING ITS STUPID TO CHARGE FOR AN UPGRADE WILL BE DELETED."
This has troubling implications.  If a developer can simply remove any negative reviews they choose to, how can I use the reviews as a basis for whether I'll try out or buy an app?  Can he really remove reviews, or is he just hoping to stop people from posting about that?

Yes and no. The developer can "request" that a review is removed. This is something that should be checked by the App World team at RIM, but in reality they seem to grant any requests without hesitation.
There has been much discussion about this, because some developers abuse this. Many users who felt conned by the offline maps crooks posted a negative review, only to find it removed later.
In some cases reviews are automatically denied by App World. It seems to be fuzzy logic, but competitor names and profanity seem to flag reviews for automatic denial.
In the interest of full disclosure, of the 150 (almost all positive) reviews for our app, we have requested for 5 to be deleted: one was actually a very good rating but contained bad language. Another was a user who hadn't read the description. The other three were problems related to PlayBook OS, not our app.

  • App Vendor Systematically Deletes Negative Reviews ...

RIM App World Folks: skip down to "How can RIM address this issue?" for the short version.
It seems purchasers of apps have one opportunity to post a review, and vendors seem to have a means to delete "offensive" reviews. It's obvious that these mechanisms are intended to prevent users from misusing the review process and avoid offensive content in reviews - but they also seem to place 100% trust (and all of the power) in the app vendor's hands.
In my particular case I looked at the review for "Canada On-Device GPS Map - Offline Map" - the description led me to believe that this app did not need an internet connection and had a basemap for canada. I was expecting map functionality similar to a low cost automotive GPS. There was only one review (5-stars) - so I took a $10 chance - and lost.
Yes, the app has a basemap of Canada (bitmap only) - down to the level of a province-wide roadmap. To get any detail usable for navigation you need a live internet connection and the app works like Bing Maps, with limited offline cache. I was disappointed that the app wasn's what I was led to expect ...
So I posted a very polite (one star) review saying basically the same as above - and within seconds my review vansihed and only the original 5-star review remained.
I have since discovered that this vendor (SkyLab Mobile Systems) seems to have a reputation for deleting negative reviews, and as unetical (or possibly fraudulent) as that is, I believe RIM has an obligation to address the situation.
How can RIM address this issue?
    a) List the total number of reviews posted for each app
    b) List the total number (or %) of those reviews deleted by the vendor
With this information a consumer can see if a vendor is systematically deleting a significant portion of their reviews. It is quite likely that most vendors will have to delete some offensive reviews, but if the % is too high it still serves as a warning to consumers ...

Same thing wih Paper Toss by Erlemann. This vendor has deleted every negative review for a product that is a joke compared to the android version (free). I was suprised to learn here that vendors can delete negative reviews. With no access to customer service (rim) and what amounts to false advertising with vendors manipulating reviews, buying any unknown app without a trial version is a gamble. I imagine the idea is to keep the developers happy; seems they'd want to keep customers happy too. Who needs developers if buyers can't trust the source and buy somewhere else (apple, android...)?I guess the upside is that it only cost me $1 to learn this. I like the playbook; not too fond of rim so far though.

  • Can app developers produce software that record/transmit browser activity?

    Hi,
I have a few questions about iPhone app security controls and hope somebody can answer them. I know apple has answers to all these questions, however, I am not sure what those are. Just trying to understand how safe my information is. Please advise.
    - How do we know the apps we purchase thru the app store cannot record or transmit passwords we enter through Safari?
    - Is it possible to even develop an app that would track browser activity and/or transmit it?
    - I have heard that if an app is not in the foreground that the apps is not running. However, can someone please explain how we know this to be true? Is there an design feature that prevents this?
    - Also, can someone please explain what level of security testing/vetting apple puts these apps thru?
If any of the security controls are questionable, then the passwords I enter thru Safari to say, my banking site, could be obtained by an app developer and then used or sold to someone else. Scary.
The app store seems like a great place for malicious developers to post. And, there are so many developers. Do we really believe they are all safe? One thing is for sure... hackers do possess the same skills required to develop apps that apple distributes.
If you can calm my concerns it would be appreciated.
    Thanks very much.

The Software Development Kit does not provide tools to allow background operation of applications, only Apple can do this, much to the consternation of some people/developers. This will not change in version 3.0 of the operating system.
You have to go through an approval process to get an application on the Apps Store. There seems to be more of a problem getting Apple to approve applications than "slipping" one by that will monitor your usage. This has been controversial, use Google and you can find articles about this.
It would be easier to use tools that exist to intercept your cellular signal and get your banking password than to go to the trouble to write an application, somehow get Apple to approve it, and somehow design an entire backend section that runs in the background, captures your information, and sends it through a cell signal to another site. Now if your iPhone is jailbroken (hacked) and you got your application from an unauthorized site then none of the above applies.
Even easier would be to wait until you take your laptop to a location with free WiFi location and use software to capture all of your activity, including your banking passwords.

  • Will itunes app sync really delete all apps on device?

Q: How to sync outdated itunes apps library with new apps from phone instead of the other way around?
Background: I always used app store on my iphone 3G to download. But due to its size i must download navigon through itunes. But if I download through itunes and sync apps with my iphone, i will loose all downloaded apps on the phone.
Is there a way around this? Is it possible to first sync itunes with the iphone. Then download something in itunes. Then sync the iphone with itunes? If yes, my question is: How to sync itunes with apps from phone instead of syncing the phone with apps from itunes?
Is there anyone that can help me out with this? Very appreciated

I'd first recommend going into Disk Utilities (Applications - Utilities - Disk Utility) and Repairing Disk Permissions on your internal HD. Then retry. If they still don't work then do both a SMC and PRAM reset using the following instructions:
    *SMC RESET*
    • Shut down the computer.
    • Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
    • On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-• Option keys and the power button at the same time.
    • Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
    • Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    *PRAM RESET*
    • Shut down the computer.
    • Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    • Turn on the computer.
    • Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
    • Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    • Release the keys.

  • App developers censoring negative reviews

I read a while ago how private information about yourself like name, user id, etc. is given to the developer when you download an Android app. As a rebuttal, someone said that Apple works the same way.
I am inclined to think that and I am also disturbed how some app developers are flagging reviews (or internally deleting the reviews). I have given some negative opinions of some apps and now I find that my review(s) are removed. If I try to add an updated review, either positive or negative my review doesn't post. I noticed this with a few apps. The trend is also with Android and with the Google Play store.
I just don't get it how Apple and even Android crumble to the developers in stiflying negative constructive criticism of the apps? Apple already makes somone go through hoops just to report a non working or even deceptive app. Sometimes, I think that this approach by Apple is an example of communism. I dunno, but this all just ticks me off.

I am occasionally forced to give an app a 1 star rating. These reviews usually never show up.  I am polite, courteous, and described the issues in detail. Moreover, I engage in no name-calling, or profanity.  My 1 star reviews are rarely posted.
I do see one star reviews get posted. However, it appears that once a certain number of them are given for an application additional ones get blocked.
To answer your specific question as to why censorship is allowed. Remember, this is Apple's website and their hard drives, they have a right to control everything that goes on to it.

  • Can I delete YOUR review in Apple App Store?

Can I delete YOUR review in Apple App Store?

    N o.
You can try to flag it for abuse or send an email to Apple requesting they look into it, but devs don't have the power to blow away reviews, sorry.

  • How do I delete music and photos from my iCloud account? I've read below that you can't. Really? Is that correct?

How do I delete music and photos from my iCloud account? I've read that you can't. Really? Is that true?

You can delete photo stream photos from iCloud by just deleting them on your iPod.  My photo stream photos are automatically deleted from iCloud after 30 days anyway.  Just so you are aware, deleting photo stream photos doesn't free up any space in your account as they don't use your personal iCloud account storage.
You can't delete music from iCloud because the music isn't stored in your account; it's stored in the iTunes store.  What you are seeing are links to your previously purchased music in the iTuens store, allowing you to redownload them if you want to.  You can't remove anything from your list of previous purchases.  If you don't want to see these "iTunes in the Cloud" purchases in your song list, go to Settings>iTunes & App Store and turn off Music under Show All.  LIke photo stream photos, this music doesn't use any of your personal iCloud account storage.

on my iphone 5 ios8, i have an apple id for App store and a defferent id for Icloude. i forgot the pw for the icloude id. how can i reset or delete icloude ?

    Greetings chaimba216,
After reviewing your post, I located an article that can help with resetting your iCloud password:
    iCloud: Change your iCloud password
Your iCloud password protects the privacy of the information (such as your email) stored in iCloud. Your password also protects your ability to locate or remotely erase your device using Find My iPhone. You should regularly change your iCloud password to protect your information. Your iCloud password is the password for the Apple IDyou use to sign in to iCloud.
Important: If you use the same Apple ID for iCloud as you do with other Apple services such as the Apple Online Store, iTunes Store, App Store, or to purchase products in iPhoto or Aperture, changing your iCloud password also changes your password for these services. Make sure you sign in to those locations using your new password.
Go to the My Apple ID website (appleid.apple.com) and follow the instructions to reset your Apple ID password.
For more information, see the Apple Support article Apple ID: Changing your password.
After changing your iCloud password, make sure you update it on all your devices and in any email apps you use to get your iCloud email.
On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch: Go to Settings > iCloud, then tap your iCloud account.
On a Mac: Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click iCloud.
On a Windows computer: Open iCloud for Windows.
In your email apps: Check the help provided for the email apps you’re using.
If you set up iCloud on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, make sure to set up a passcode lock on your device for added security. (Go to Settings > Passcode or Touch ID & Passcode.)
Thank you for contributing to Apple Support Communities.
    Best,

  • How can we really delete all artifacts in workspace 9.3.1.?

Is there a way to really delete all artifacts (all published oce's, bqy's, docs, WA reports, folders, subfolders, etc) from workspace 9.3.1?
I noticed that deleting a folder does not remove the subfolders and docs from workspace but just makes it invisible. They still exist in the database. If you are able to recreate the sqame folder again (and with alcm you can) the artifact which were invisible are back again.
Because of this "bug" but also after multiple ALCM imports our testenvironment seems to have problems whic I like to solve by deleting all content and reimporting them with ALCM from file export from production.

Oracle "advises" to use the Interactive reporting JDK. Using the categorydelete program sample.
Well as this is fairly new to me I ask some advise from you experts :-)
I've been reading most parts of the developersguide now.
As far as I see I have to edit/ create a /cf file when I want to run a batch driver program.
I am able to run the program (at least it does not complain obout java or other errors anymore. But the batch_file.cf is not yet ready to do what I like to do.
Any one got a sample to run a recursive deletion of all content?
    Hope to read from you.

I connected my ipad to my computer to sync my photos and it deleted all my apps, they synced back on to my ipad but all my Noteshelf apps items were deleted, how can I get these back?

What do you mean " back up my photos or Apps"?
The photo sync is one way - computer to ipad.
You can transfer itunes purchases.  Without syncing:  File>Transfer Purchases
Copy everything from your backup copy of your old computer to your new one.
