App developers censoring negative reviews

I read a while ago how private information about yourself like name, user id, etc. is given to the developer when you download an Android app. As a rebuttal, someone said that Apple works the same way.
I am inclined to think that and I am also disturbed how some app developers are flagging reviews (or internally deleting the reviews). I have given some negative opinions of some apps and now I find that my review(s) are removed. If I try to add an updated review, either positive or negative my review doesn't post. I noticed this with a few apps.The trend is also with Android and with the Google Play store.
I just don't get it how Apple and even Android crumble to the developers in stiflying negative constructive criticism of the apps? Apple already makes somone go through hoops just to report a non working or even deceptive app. Sometimes, I think that this approach by Apple is an example of communism. I dunno, but this all just ticks me off.

I am occasionally forced to give an app a 1 star rating. These reviews usually never show up. I am polite, courteous, and described the issues in detail. Moreover, I engage in no name-calling, or profanity. My 1 star reviews are rarely posted.
I do see one star reviews get posted. However, it appears that once a certain number of them are given for an application additional ones get blocked.
To answer your specific question as to why censorship is allowed. Remember, this is Apple's website and their hard drives, they have a right to control everything that goes on to it.

What's interesting is that it was "rejected" 2 1/2 months after being posted. If the "moderator" has an ounce of courage, kindly contact me off-forum and I'd be happy to give you the names of a dozen highly respected experts who feel the same way I do. My dear Adobe moderator, Dreamweaver is a fine program, but like any program it has flaws. Criticism of those flaws should be faced maturely and used to improve the product in the future. If a critique is, in fact, wrong, it would be obvious and easy to rebut. It seems you are simply trying to sweep your flaws under the carpet. I'm hoping it is the work of a rogue volunteer moderator and not anyone of import at Adobe.

The Fluid Grid Layout is not well-written. I really hate to say it, but
it's another well-intentioned feature that will wither on the vine. The
underlying architecture is flawed and the nature of CSS dictates not
only responsive design, but code updates that are responsive to changes
in browsers and/or bugs in browsers. Making an adaptive page is simply
too easy of a task for anyone willing to take a little time to learn.
Here is a quick example a did a few weeks ago. Interestingly, it was
playing with the Adobe Fluid Grid feature (and getting totally
frustrated with its flaws and complexities) that inspired me to do this

I agree 100% with what you are saying here. And unfortunately, Adobe has not seen this from their end. However, I still believe it has a place, but the core of DW needs to be updated to take advantage of this. The point of adding in this feature is to make it easier for professionals to manage the document. To either make it faster, more efficient, or even provide a GUI to get setup faster. Currently there is no way to logically modify the CSS for the responsive design from what I see right now and that's my biggest complaint about it at this point.
Furthermore, I fear that the "CMS integration" of Wordpress, Drupal, and Joomla is no different than having Adobe staff try to support the .NET architecture. Not that I use it, but just because there are a lot of web professionals that do and the support is based on outside sources that Adobe has no control over or no involvement in as far as I am aware. And I don't know if you follow DW, but yesterday they announced that they are releasing the first major update to Dreamweaver, ONLY to Cloud subscribers, and it will be an upgrade to CSS transitions.

Can app developers really delete negative reviews in Blackberry AppWorld?

I was browsing AppWorld, and concerned when I looked at StickyBoard Notes HD, by Joey Beechey.
In his description, he writes, "ALL REVIEWS THAT ARE JUST SAYING ITS STUPID TO CHARGE FOR AN UPGRADE WILL BE DELETED."
This has troubling implications. If a developer can simply remove any negative reviews they choose to, how can I use the reviews as a basis for whether I'll try out or buy an app? Can he really remove reviews, or is he just hoping to stop people from posting about that?

Yes and no. The developer can "request" that a review is removed. This is something that should be checked by the App World team at RIM, but in reality they seem to grant any requests without hesitation.
There has been much discussion about this, because some developers abuse this. Many users who felt conned by the offline maps crooks posted a negative review, only to find it removed later.
In some cases reviews are automatically denied by App World. It seems to be fuzzy logic, but competitor names and profanity seem to flag reviews for automatic denial.
In the interest of full disclosure, of the 150 (almost all positive) reviews for our app, we have requested for 5 to be deleted: one was actually a very good rating but contained bad language. Another was a user who hadn't read the description. The other three were problems related to PlayBook OS, not our app.

App Vendor Systematically Deletes Negative Reviews ...

RIM App World Folks: skip down to "How can RIM address this issue?" for the short version.
It seems purchasers of apps have one opportunity to post a review, and vendors seem to have a means to delete "offensive" reviews. It's obvious that these mechanisms are intended to prevent users from misusing the review process and avoid offensive content in reviews - but they also seem to place 100% trust (and all of the power) in the app vendor's hands.
In my particular case I looked at the review for "Canada On-Device GPS Map - Offline Map" - the description led me to believe that this app did not need an internet connection and had a basemap for canada. I was expecting map functionality similar to a low cost automotive GPS. There was only one review (5-stars) - so I took a $10 chance - and lost.
Yes, the app has a basemap of Canada (bitmap only) - down to the level of a province-wide roadmap. To get any detail usable for navigation you need a live internet connection and the app works like Bing Maps, with limited offline cache. I was disappointed that the app wasn's what I was led to expect ...
So I posted a very polite (one star) review saying basically the same as above - and within seconds my review vansihed and only the original 5-star review remained.
I have since discovered that this vendor (SkyLab Mobile Systems) seems to have a reputation for deleting negative reviews, and as unetical (or possibly fraudulent) as that is, I believe RIM has an obligation to address the situation.
How can RIM address this issue?
a) List the total number of reviews posted for each app
b) List the total number (or %) of those reviews deleted by the vendor
With this information a consumer can see if a vendor is systematically deleting a significant portion of their reviews. It is quite likely that most vendors will have to delete some offensive reviews, but if the % is too high it still serves as a warning to consumers ...

Same thing wih Paper Toss by Erlemann. This vendor has deleted every negative review for a product that is a joke compared to the android version (free). I was suprised to learn here that vendors can delete negative reviews. With no access to customer service (rim) and what amounts to false advertising with vendors manipulating reviews, buying any unknown app without a trial version is a gamble. I imagine the idea is to keep the developers happy; seems they'd want to keep customers happy too. Who needs developers if buyers can't trust the source and buy somewhere else (apple, android...)?I guess the upside is that it only cost me $1 to learn this. I like the playbook; not too fond of rim so far though.

I have downloaded a number of apps from the Mac App Store. If I like the app I post a positive review. If I dislike the app or find it offensive, I post a negative review. To date all of my positive reviews have appeared and been counted toward the app's rating, but my negative reviews never appear and do not count against the "bad" app's rating. This seems very fishy and biased.

The best place to leave software reviews is on Amazon. They are the number one seller, and do not censor.

Adobe Air Initiates the wrong launch Image on iPhone 6 - Possible App Rejection by Apple Review Team for all developers

I've opened a bug for this issue as well. I want to ask if anyone experiencing the same issue and has found a workaround. Basically Air Runtime is picking up the wrong launch image when launching on iPhone 6. It defaults to [email protected] instead of the [email protected] iOS 8 picks the correct image but Air Runtime does not. Here is the link for the bug. If this is confirmed, this could result in rejection for all the app developers who optimized their apps for iPhone 6 . It is hard to catch this bug in release mode since the Air Runtime loads pretty fast and it occurs when you device is slow or doing something in the background. You can see it easily on iOS simulator or debug mode. We tried everything for a workaround but we failed.

Apple recommends the storyboard/xib option but you can still use launch images as assets in your root. When you open a new project in xcode you can look at Contents.json and see the naming conventions they use for iOS8. We grabbed the new naming convention from here. Also setting up in the application xml the UILaunchImages key works too. Please see the below example. It would be a better solution if Adobe Air refers to xml/info.plist values that the developer sets instead of hard-coded naming conventions.

I want to download the Maverick OS but have read a lot of negative reviews

I want to download the new Maverick OS but have read a lot of negative reviews about people losing everything on their machine. Am I better off getting the Lion or Mountain Lion OS? The main reason I need to upgrade the OS is to support the AirPort Time Machine I recently purchased so I can back everything up on my computer. Without the new OS I can't use the Time Machine but don't want to lose everything before I've had a chance to back it up.

Two specific functions that are important were broken (The VPN issues required a switch to Cisco AnyConnect instead of the built-in VPN).

A feature request for iOS app developers...

Guys and Gals,
I have a feature request which I think will benefit iOS app developers as much as it would benefit your customers.
Any customer that has more than a handful of apps will eventually forget what some of those apps do or what makes them unique. For instance, I had not used the wonderful hotel finder, Oyster, in over a year. I not only forgot I had it, I also forgot how Oyster's service was different than other hotel finders. I had to refamiliarize myself with the app. Sometimes, this requires returning to the App Store to read the product description again.
It would be helpful if every app had an About button that would present the product description, summarizing the app's purpose and what differentiates it from similar apps without going into the details of how to use it.

Apple discourages the use of About or Help buttons.
Send feedback to Apple because this is the wrong place to ask; we are all just users like you.

I can't turn off "share crash data with app developers"

I enabled this feature accidentally during the onboarding process for my new Macbook Pro, and now I can't turn it off as the button is greyed out. 
The feature is located in in System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy. 
Any suggestions for how to do this?

I have a 2009 MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard. I do not think I will upgrade to Lion because I was warned that it may conflict with some of my applications.
There have been so many reviews that talk about how Aperture 3 is so slow and spends too much time searching for Faces and eventually crashes. And, many reviews mention that you need to add to your RAM which I can't do right now, especially on a 3 year old computer.
There are some copies Aperture 2 on Amazon. Would that be a good place to buy a copy or a used copy?

Obviously you haven't read the reviews of Aperture 2
FWIW I use Ap3 on both a 2010 MBP (8 gigs of Ram) and an 2008 iMac (4 gigs) and I have no crashing issues whatever. Remember, you can disable Faces if you don't want to use that feature.

Use Internet Recovery. You shouldn't need an AppleID. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4718
Internet Recovery will install the OS that shipped with the Mac. You can then upgrade to Mavericks if that was not it.

You can not merge accounts.
Apps are tied to the Apple ID used to download them, you can not transfer them.

Your files should be safe, but it is always good practice to create a backup before upgrading your operating system.

If you want to stop sending reports to Apple and developers when apps crash, then go to System Preferences, click on Security & Privacy and click on Privacy. You will then see on the left side of the window an section for Diagnostics & Usage with the option to turn off sending crash data to app developers. My negative reviews don't get published...but the positive ones do...

Wrote a review of an Epson printer which is sold on the Apple store site as AirPrint enabled. Pointed out that Epson themselves DO NOT recommend that printer as AirPrint enabled and don include it as recommended for use with Apple products. Surprise, surprise! Apple won't publish my review and thy wont accept retun of the printer as being "not fit for purpose"...giant paperweight anybody?

Perhaps you were a bit too "salty" in your review and you may have crossed the line as to what is fit to be published online.
Did you think to check out the printer on HP's website before you made the purchase? Can you point out/document where Apple claims that this non AirPrint printer is in fact an AirPrint compatible printer?
