Can Automator run a workflow on many folders, one at a time?

Hello,
In a parent folder, I have a bunch of subfolders with image files (BMP, JPG or PNG).
I want each of these subfolders to become a PDF combining the original image files.
I also want the resulting PDFs to be named as the original subfolder.
Is there a way to do it with Automator, or do I have to dive into Applescript (I am totally new to both)?
In Automator, the following 3-step workflow does almost what I want:
#1 - Ask for Finder Items (I provide the parent folder)
#2 - Get folder contents
#3 - New PDF from images
However, I get only one huge PDF combining the contents of all subfolders (I need one PDF per subfolder) and I must give for step #3 a specific file name (I need the filename to be that of the containing folder).
Am I on the right path? I tried using the 'Loop' action and the 'Path' variable but I didn't progress.
More generally, can Automator run a workflow on a bunch of folders one folder at a time, or is that a job for Applescript?

Unfortunately, the text field in the *New PDF from Images* action doesn't support variables, and the *Rename Finder Items* action doesn't either (I wish Apple would get on the stick with updating their actions). There is this macosxhints article about hacking the workflow plist, but that doesn't always work.
I have a couple of actions that could be used - the Get Names of Finder Items action can be used to get the folder name (to put into a variable), and the Change Name of Finder Items action does accept variables to change the name.

Exchange 2003 - 2010. Moving public folders one at a time

Hi all,
I'm in the process of decomisioning our old Exchange 2003 server (long overdue after what has been a relativly smooth and trouble free transition to 2010). As the first step in the decomisioning process, I'm looking to move the public folders from the 2003
box to the 2010 box. From my understanding there are a couple of ways to achieve this (please correct me if I'm wrong). The first is to add the Exchange 2010 server as a new replication partner, allow for replication of the PFs to occur, and then remove the
2003 partner from the replication partnership. The other option is to use MoveAllReplicas.ps1.
I opted for the first option, but the problem I have is that the initial replication process started to generate a very large number of transaction logs on the Exchange 2010 server, to the point I was slightly conccerned I was going to run out of space on
the volume (our server is backed up nightly at which point the transaction logs are normally flushed).Whilst I know I could potentially increase the size of the volume or turn on cicular logging for the duration of the migration (neither of which is appealing
as it will involve down time), I was wondering if there was a way to move a smaller set of Public folders one at a time with a powershell command, or is it an all or nothing operation? My other option may be to replicate a small subset of folders everyday,
but that just a little painful as there are a large number of child folders with in the structure. Any other suggestions welcome!

If your Public Folder Database is large, you can use tool like Exfolders or ESM to add replica folder by folder.

It sounds like iTunes seems to have lost track of all your music and you must locate each file individually. I would recommend at this point that you check for 3rd party plugins to see if there are any causing an issue:

If the issue persists after removing the plugins, I would next try recreating your iTunes library:

How do I run a workflow when a folders contents have changed?

Im a noobie to automator but slowly have been tapping into the usefulness of this new program. Ive created a simple workflow to add mp3 files ive downloaded into itunes which looks like this:
1. Get specified Finder Items (ive selected a drop box on my desktop)
2. Add files to Playlist
3 Change case of Song Names
4. Set Info of iTunes Songs
When I run the workflow there seems to be no problems and it gives me confirmation that the execution is completed. However, when I check itunes it doesnt seem to have applied any of the actions I specified. Id also like to use this workflow whenever I drop new files ive downloaded into this folder. Ive tried searching the folder action scripts but cant figure out how to use my workflow ive created.
I know there is probably a simple solution and hope someone can help me out.

Ive added:

1.2 View Results (shows the files in the selected folder)

When I run the workflow within automator the songs are added to my playlist, but it doesnt change case of song names or set info.
When I save the workflow as a plug in and attach as a folder action, the work flow works up until step 3, but doesnt set info. It also creates duplicate copies to my library.

Can Automator start a workflow after login AUTOMATICALLY?

I have made a workflow in Automator that kickstarts certain applications that I would like to be loaded and do their thing while I’m having my breakfast in the morning. These are Entourage, Mail, NetNewsWire... you get the idea.
I have added the workflow to the login items and it does indeed start Automator, but then Automator expects me to press the “Run” button manually. Is there any way to have a) Automator start a workflow automatically, and b) keep its own program in the background or at least quit itself after the workflow has been processed?

No kids yet but I cant get me off of it. I was just thinking that in many ways I am in a rut. It seems like everything is word processing, e-mail, and web surfing.Partly because of time and partly because of needing additional memory. This is the first Mac I have had with anything close to the horsepower i would like to have had.

Assume that i have 10000 PSD files in 10 different folders
I have a script that just save as them as PNG
And these files are each 3000x3000 px
My computer has 8 cores and 1 photoshop exe is only using 1 cpu core
Also i have SSD raid system it has 750 mb read write per second
So right now i am wasting my time with running only 1 photoshop exe instead of at least 4

I'm not aware of a way to run multiple instances or different versions of photoshop at the same time on windows.
Assuming of course they are all installed on the same operating system.
On mac versions you can running two different versions of photoshop at the same time, but i don't think that's possible on windows where it
appears that only one version of photoshop can run at a time.

If connect two Hds at the same time. Leopard cant find it and the Hds seem no problem. the machine must be restarted and then use one . No problem . I have formated the HD many times .even if which format is Fat 32 or Mac issue persists .Boot from installation CD used the disk utility . Issue stills . If i used one fire wire HD that get power from power socket and used one fire wire device . Leopard was no problem during this time . Whether is this design problem or my machine hardware problem?My Mac has been changed the logic board by Apple service . Do you have similar case in here????

I connect both hard disks that get power from power supply normally. Also have ever changed the format as GUID. Which always use the power cord . I felt confusion why the issue just happened connect both hard disks with extra power at the same time. If i used one hard disk connect to firewire port . Another firewire port connect other firewire device . No problem at all.

How can I run 12 Apple tv's off one itunes library?

Hi, I was wondering if anyone had a solution for running 12 apple tv's off one itunes.
We have recently setup a system with 12 1st gen apple tv's. After purchasing them we found there was a maximum restriction of having 5 Synced and 5 Streaming apple tv's per instance of itunes. The synced ones are set to not actually sync any content, but can however still access all of the itunes content as long as thec omputer is on. So essentiality they are all 'streaming', we never intended to store content on the apple tv's. As soon as you try to add an 11th apple tv to the itunes, one of the other apple tv's (at random) will no longer be able to access the computer running itunes and gets 'kicked off'. Has anyone done this and is there a way around it? I had thought of trying to run 2 instances of itunes pointed at the same library, with half of the apple tvs paired with each instance, but that doesn’t seam possible?
The new apple tv's use home sharing, does anyone know how many 2nd gen apple tv's can run off one itunes simultaneously?

I haven't been able to verify it because I only have 3 Apple TV 2's, but it's generally assumed there is also a limit of 5 devices for homesharing too.

Can't run Pshop and another adobe program at the same time

Hi all,
I'm experiencing a frustration problem. I can't run two adobe programs a the same time - ie, Lightroom and photoshop, After effects and photoshop.
Lightrrom and After effects sem to be playing together okay at the moment so looks like it may be a PShop issue.
Running final release of windows 7 64 bit, licenced PS3, trial AE, trial PS4....8GB Ram, has been with both Nvidia and ATI video cards, open GL on , Open GL off, seperate scratch disks, reinstalled everything,
Any help, advice, hints would be really appreciated as having to close programs all the time when switching apps is a real pain in the neck

yeah I thought that may be the case but then realised both After effects and CS3 are 32bit (86x) and I can't run those together

Can we run two while loops independently in one application?

I am acquiring two channels using PCI-6052.both channels to be read at 2ks/s,but I want to scans read at a time different for each channel,So I put two AI-read vi's in two different while loops.but the second while loop waits until the first is completed.Can we run independently both while loops?

you can scan two different channels at the same time with the same AI Read if your hardware device is cabable of it, e.g. you must have one A/D converter for each channel. If you have one A/D converter only and your channels are multiplexed then it won't work.
You can try running both loops indepentendly by using delays but in this case the data acquisition will not be at the same time. You have also to consider that every time you call for AI Read the DAQ card will be initialised with takes some time
