I recently had my iPhone 4 stolen (AT&T) and I pre-ordered a iPhone 4s to replace it. In the meantime I am without a phone. I just checked my order and it states that it has been backordered until the manufactuturer catches back up. Anyways, I also pre-ordered several Verizon iPhone 4s for my company which have already shipped. Since the iPhone 4s has both GSM and CDMA is it possible to activate one on another carrier? Basically, could I activate one of the Verizon phones on my AT&T account when they arrive tomorrow and then activate my backordered AT&T phone on Verizon when it arrives?

That sounds about right and on par with everything else I have been reading. I wonder why the Verizon phones shipped but my AT&T phone is backordered? They were all ordered within 30 minutes of each other early in the morning on the 7th.

I just used my iPhone 4S in Tokyo and Kyoto. (June 2013) It works perfectly on their CDMA system there, even though I am an AT&T (GSM) subscriber in the US.
It seems that, unlike the earlier iPhone models, the 4S is both CDMA and GSM compatible. Be careful though, unless you buy a Data Plan from Verizon before you leave the US, the use of their 3G internet access will be really expensive, if you enable "Data Roaming" while traveling there. Also check to see if you can purchase an international calling plan that reduces the per-minute rate while traveling in Japan, before you depart. Do the same for text messaging.

OK, call AppleCare in the UK...no one else can help you...be prepared to give them the phone's IMEI number & SN. They can verify whether your phone is carrier locked or not. Tell them you asked for an unlocked iPhone, that there was no sim in the phone or carrier name on the box or receipt. They can fix this remotely, by unlocking your phone, if it is in fact carrier locked & you were given this phone by mistake.

If the iPhone does not have the necessary carrier support files, then it won't connect regardless of the bands used. And as evidenced by the addition of more EU carriers just by an update to iOS, those files are not automatically present in the iPhone except for those carriers listed on the page I referenced. I have yet to see any reports of anyone being able to connect a US-sold iPhone 5 to a European carrier via LTE, so those support files are apparently not present in US-sold iPhones.
Again, unless someone has found a workaround that I cannot find any evidence of, a US iPhone will it would seem not work via LTE in Europe. I'd be happy to see reports or methods to the contrary, but I cannot find any.

I have been trying to get ahold of someone but have not been able to find the answer to my question. On the prepaid plan page it gives an option to buy an iPhone 5s and activate it on a prepaid plan, but cannot seem to activate my existing iPhone 5s to my prepaid plan. Why is it that it seems like I have to buy a phone from Verizon in order to use this plan? I currently have an iPhone 4s on prepaid plan and want to change device due to the fact that my 4 is water damaged and barely works. HELP?

I am moving to Europe, specificaly France, soon and would like to know if I should bring my Verizon iphone 5, or just buy a new one there, since I will have to start a new contract with a European phone company while I am there. I haven't bought my new iphone 5 yet (because I am waiting for this answer) but my mother is alligble for an upgrade with her Verizon account and can get a brand new Verizon iphone 5 for a great deal. She was going to give it to me, but I am leaving for France in 3 months where I will be living there for at least a year. I was going to just purchase a new iphone 5 with one of the European phone companies (like Orange or Vodaphone, ect.) since I will be getting a good deal on them too (when signing up for a new contract), but if the Verizon iphone will work exactly the same over in Europe, I would rather get it now. Either way, I will be spending about the same amount of money. Will I be restricted somehow using a US iphone 5 in Europe, or are the US iphone 5's any different from the iphone 5's in Europe (or tide to European phone companies? Do they offer an insurance plan? (I'm not sure if this even exists in the US. I will be a new iphone user!) I'm just curious what which iphone will be more efficitant to use, since I will be spending most of my time in Europe.

Click on the links on the right for some good information. The only concern is that a phone purchased in the States will only be seviced for any repairs in the States. You will not have any warranty coverage in France.

Recently about a month ago there was a commercial on tv that was a no contract Cellphone Carrier that advertised I could take my iPhone5 to their service. Unfortunately through my infinite wisdome I thought I had bookmarked their page and I had not. I was hoping that someone here can help me find their service as I am tired of Verizons BS games like trying to say I was in Canada Mexico and IL all that the same time according to their system. Then their wonderful rep after being told not to changed my data package from 6 gb to 2 gb causing me to go over my data and when I called them to find out why I was over my data I was told I could not go back to the package I had as it was no longer offered as I was getting the 6 gb for 20 bucks a mo and the 2 gb was 20 bucks a mo as well and for me to go back ot it I was looking at 60 bucks. I could swear the company's name started with an A I know its a long shot but they said I could use the verizon Iphone with them and they just had to ship me a new sim card for it and it was good to go. Please help as I need to get my phone working again my mother has cancer and this is the only way I can communicate with her right now is over my phone.

Yes. As long as it is a Verizon branded device that is not suspended, blacklisted, banned, reported lost/stolen, etc and is eligible to be activated on your type of account.

Hello, I brought an iphone5 several weeks ago from a friend and I've heard that the iPhone 5 from verizon is already unlocked. I would like to connect it with T-mobile. Im thinking of updating the iphone to the new IOS 7 but will that interfere with it being unlocked? How do I know for sure it is unlock ? Also can I do the unlocking by myself through itunes or would I have to find some kind of software to unlock it? What you need to understand first is that the Verizon iPhone is a CDMA phone and does not require a sim card to work on the Verizon network. Yes the phone is unlocked, but only the GSM part of the phone is unlocked so that you can insert local sim cards when you travel.
Unfortunately, if you want to use this phone in the US, you WILL NOT be able to use it on T-Mobile, as being a Verizon phone it will only connect with the Verizon CDMA network. If you want to use the phone in the US, then you'll have to use it on the Verizon network.
If you want to use T-Mobile, then perhaps think about selling this phone and buying a new phone that is unlocked and a GSM phone so that you can use it with T-Mobile without problems.
