Can I build report based on 2 subject areas?

Hi,
How can I build report or analytics basedon 2 subject areas.
Example:
I have opportunity-Products and Activities
Thanks

1. I would suggest you create a Union Report. This could be little confusing
2. Another way would be to create a dashboard report that would show both

  • Error when  building a report from 2 different subject areas

    Hello Experts,
    I am using obiee 11.1.1.5.
    I have 5 dimension D1,D2,D3,D4,D5 connected to fact1 and 4 dimension connected to fact2 such as D1,D2,D6,D7.
    where D1,D2 is common to both the facts.
    Fact1 Is in subject area 1 and Fact2 is in subject area2.
    I need to create a report by adding columns of  subject area 1 and 2 with columns from all the dimensions D1,D2....D7.
    As of now i am getting error stating "No fact table exists at the requested level of detail " when i try to add columns from 2 different subject areas.
    Can anyone help me in solving the above problem.
    Is there any prerequisite to be taken care when  building a report from 2 different subject areas.
    Regards,
    NN

    Hello Nagireddy,
    So kind of you, for your quick reply
    I was able to solve the error by doing below steps in additional what you have specified
    -->For the fact table LTSs, set the logical level in the Content tab to the dimension's lowest level for each conforming dimension (leave the non-conforming dimensions level blank).
    Now I have another requirement i,e
    I need to have non measure columns such as Date into the newly created fact in BMM layer.
    I tried doing the steps which I followed for measure column, but it is throwing the same error which I get earlier.
    Below is the error
    Error Codes: OPR4ONWY:U9IM8TAC:OI2DL65P

  • Updaing SQL 2005 Report Builder Reports (based on Report Models) to SQL 2012 Report Builder Reports?

    We are upgrading from SQL 2005 to SQL 2012 directly (no SQL 2008 to be installed).  We have many SSRS Reports written in Report Builder 1.0 against Report Models generated from an OLAP datasource.  In SQL 2012, Report Models can no longer
    be created or edited.  I have found many posts on this topic, including this:
    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/896522da-45c3-46c0-848a-16f8f02ab051/how-to-upgrade-report-models-from-report-builder-1020-to-30. which the 'answered' response states:
    SQL Server 2012 Reporting Services does not include tools for creating or updating report models. Although you can continue
    to use existing report models as data sources in SQL Server 2012 Reporting Services reports you should consider updating your reports to remove their dependency on report models.
    But I cannot locate any instructions/documentation, etc. on how to go about "updating your reports to remove
    their dependency on report models.".  How do I take existing Report Builder 1.0 reports that point to Report Models and upgrade them to the new SQL 2012 without Report Models?  Is there a way to convert them?  Or, do they need to be rewritten
    from scratch?  If there is a link to these instructions, please post as I cannot locate it any where.  Thank you.

    Katherine thank you for helping with this.  Here is what I have tried:
    On the Report Manager (2012) site, I created a new OLAP data source.  And when I test the connection, I get the pop up "Connection created successfully."
    I then pointed my Report Builder (v1.0) report to this new Data Source (from Report Manager site, selected 'Manage' for the report, from Data Sources, selected Browse and drilled down to the new Data Source I created and selected Apply).
    Now when I try to View the report, I receive the following error:
    An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted) Query execution failed for dataset 'paramDataSet'. (rsErrorExecutingCommand) The SemanticQuery element at line 7, column 279 (namespace http://schemas.microsoft.com/sqlserver/2004/10/semanticmodeling)
    cannot appear under Envelope/Body/Execute/Command.
    I then exited IE and reopened the Report Manager site.  I opened Report Builder 3.0,, selected Open and opened this same report.  Idrilled donw to Data Sources and  right clicked on dataSource1 (the only one listed) and selected Data
    Source Properties.  I kept the same name, but selected the new shared datasource I created (New DataSource), and selected OK.
    Next, I drilled down to Datasets.  There are two listed, dataSet and paramDataSet (yes, this report has parameters).  I right clicked on the dataSet and selected dataSet properties, and see that it points to dataSource1 (which is the dataSource
    I just pointed to my New DataSource).  I cancelled and checked the Data Source for paramDataSet, and it also points to dataSource1.  Selected cancel and went back to the main dataSet.
    So both datasets point to the new DataSource I created.
    If I select Run, I get the following error:
    I select OK and right click on dataSet and select Refresh Fields and get this error:
    Can you (anyone) please explain what I am doing incorrectly?  Thank you.

  • Can Application Builder report be modified to show the app ALIAS as well?

    Hi All,
    Is there a way to customize this report to show also the application alias?
    It would be very useful for us because we have several versions of the same applications and the only difference between them is the application alias.
    Regards,
    Harvey

    Hi Scott,
    I'm referring to the 'View Applications' report (page 1500) of the Application Builder.
    As I posted before, we would like to see the app_alias as well on this report.
    Is there any way to get this?

  • Can you customize report "page" tabs so they are named automatically from data in the file, and can you add "pages" dynamically?

    I am looking to develop a dynamic report template for our internal reporting use.  Namely, I am looking for the ability to do two things:
    1)  Update the names of the tabs at the bottom of the report template (lets call them the "pages" of the report) from data stored within the file (for instance, label a tab with the "description" property from a given group or channel)
    2)  Add additional tabs with associated graphs based on the number of groups a particular file has (for instance, a particular component could have a test life of 2000 hrs, but have been put through several different tests along the way.  It would be nice to show an overall life summary on the first tab, and then break out the data from the individual tests on seperate tabs with labels specific to that test, such as test #, etc.)
    Any ideas on how this may (or may not) be done?

    Hi SethRow187,
    Let's take this one step at a time, starting with the one REPORT sheet per Data Portal Group request.  This is something that I do all the time, and I have developed lots of standard functions that I can re-use quickly and easily.  DIAdem has the basic functions which enable this, but it takes quite a few commands to get this to work the way you and I want with absolute control.
    In the "Group Sheets General" example I'm attaching below, the same REPORT layout TDR file is loaded once for each Data Portal Group, and then subsequently altered programmatically so that all the Group references in the REPORT objects (graphs, tables, text boxes) are replaced with references to the current Group.  This results in N REPORT sheets where each sheet has explicit references to a particular Group.
    In the "Group Sheets Simple" example I'm attaching below, again the same REPORT layout TDR file is loaded once for each Data Portal Group, but in this case no further change is made to each REPORT sheet after it is loaded.  This results in N REPORT sheets which are absolutely identical in content to each other and which all reference the default Group.  They appear different when refreshed because in each sheet, under its "Settings>>Layout Setup>>Worksheet Parameters" dialog there is a command configured to run each time the sheet is refreshed-- this command uses the current REPORT sheet index to set the corresponding Group to be the default Group.
    In both cases the name of the Group is used for the REPORT sheet, which is convenient in that both Group names and REPORT sheet names are required to be unique, but you could use the Group description or any other property instead as long as you ensure that it has not already been used to name a previous REPORT sheet.
    I also have scripts to concatenate the contents of N Groups into a new Group, located at the top of the Data Portal, and this combined with the below attached applications would give you the lead off overview REPORT sheet you mentioned.

  • Can I pass parameters from a dashboard via a dashboard prompt and presentation variable to publisher report based on a data model with select statements in OBIEE 11g ?

    I have a publisher 11g (v 11.1.1.7)  report with a single parameter. The report is based on a data model not a subject area.  I created a dashboard put a dashboard prompt and link to the report in separate section on the same page.  The dashboard prompt sets a presentation variable named the same as the parameter in the report.
    The problem was when I created the dashboard prompt, it forced me to select a subject area which I did (though did not want to) and then I created both a column and variable prompts. But clicking on the
    report link completely ignored the value that I thought would be passed in the presentation variable to the report.
    Side note :  My report uses a pdf template for its layout where I have mapped the columns names from my data model to the form fields on the pdf form.  I noticed that if I create a publisher report based on a subject area, then I do not have the choice to choose a PDF as a template type for my layout.  (I only see BI Publisher Template as a choice).
    I see some documentation online that suggest it could be done in 10g.
    Thanks
    M. Jamal

    Ok,
    I just tried that and it still doesn't pass anything to the prompt.
    I changed the prompt to an edit field and I made the following weblink but when i click the link from an account it doesn't put anything in the prompt and all data for all accounts is shown.
    This is the URL maybe I messed something up...

  • Can I create a report based on Non-Oracle template?

    Hi:
    I have a Microsoft Word document that contains the entire layout of a report I need to create with Oracle Report 6i. I know that I can create a report based on a template, but as I understand it, I am limited to using Oracle Reports templates. Does Reports support using foreign templates? Thanks for any word in this manner.
    Thomas Morgan
    :)

    oracle reports does not support using ms word documents as templates. there is a product in the oracle applications stack, XML publisher, that allows you to inject data into a word template.
    thanks,

  • No activities scheduled in opportunities, can that be reported?

    Hi everyone!
    We need to create a report that would show all opportunities that do not have any activities scheduled.
    Any suggestions?

    You can build a report to do this using the Minus Set Operator union type. The Minus Set Operator can be found under the Advanced section in the Define Criteria step of creating a report. When combining reports, you have the choice of Union, Union All, Intersect, and Minus. Minus in this list is the functionality you are asking about.
    To test the report:
    1. Create your report on the Opty Subject Area with the Opty ID and Opty Name columns.
    2. Click on Advanced, "Combine with Similar Analysis". Choose Activities.
    3. In the Set Operations box that is shown, click on the down arrow next to the two circles.
    4. In the drop-down menu, choose "Minus".
    5. Add the Opty Id and Opty Name from the columns on the left.
    6. Save and run the report. You should have a list of all Optys without a matching activity.
    You will need to test this as necessary.
    I recommend that you pick up a book by Mike Lairson called "Oracle CRM On Demand Reporting". It is an essential tool for creating reports.
    Good Luck.

  • How to create a report based on a DataSet programatically

    I'm working on a CR 2008 Add-in.
    Usage of this add-in is: Let the user choose from a list of predefined datasets, and create a totally empty report with this dataset attached to is. So the user can create a report based on this dataset.
    I have a dataset in memory, and want to create a new report in cr2008.
    The new report is a blank report (with no connection information).
    If I set the ReportDocument.SetDataSource(Dataset dataSet) property, I get the error:
    The report has no tables.
    So I must programmatically define the table definition in my blank report.
    I found the following article: https://boc.sdn.sap.com/node/869, and came up with something like this:
    internal class NewReportWorker : Worker
          public NewReportWorker(string reportFileName)
             : base(reportFileName)
    public override void Process()
             DatabaseController databaseController = ClientDoc.DatabaseController;
             Table table = new Table();
             string tabelName = "Table140";
             table.Name = tabelName;
             table.Alias = tabelName;
             table.QualifiedName = tabelName;
             table.Description = tabelName;
             var fields = new Fields();
             var dbField = new DBField();
             var fieldName = "ID";
             dbField.Description = fieldName;
             dbField.HeadingText = fieldName;
             dbField.Name = fieldName;
             dbField.Type = CrFieldValueTypeEnum.crFieldValueTypeInt64sField;
             fields.Add(dbField);
             dbField = new DBField();
             fieldName = "IDLEGITIMATIEBEWIJS";
             dbField.Description = fieldName;
             dbField.HeadingText = fieldName;
             dbField.Name = fieldName;
             dbField.Type = CrFieldValueTypeEnum.crFieldValueTypeInt64sField;
             fields.Add(dbField);
             // More code for more tables to add.
             table.DataFields = fields;
             //CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.DataDefModel.ConnectionInfo info =
             //   new CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.DataDefModel.ConnectionInfo();
             //info.Attributes.Add("Databse DLL", "xxx.dll");
             //table.ConnectionInfo = info;
             // Here an error occurs.
             databaseController.AddTable(table, null);
             ReportDoc.SetDataSource( [MyFilledDataSet] );
             //object path = @"d:\logfiles\";
             //ClientDoc.SaveAs("test.rpt", ref path, 0);
    The object ClientDoc referes to a ISCDReportClientDocument in a base class:
       internal abstract class Worker
          private ReportDocument _ReportDoc;
          private ISCDReportClientDocument _ClientDoc;
          private string _ReportFileName;
          public Worker(string reportFileName)
             _ReportFileName = reportFileName;
             _ReportDoc = new ReportDocument();
             // Load the report from file path passed by the designer.
             _ReportDoc.Load(reportFileName);
             // Create a RAS Document through In-Proc RAS through the RPTDoc.
             _ClientDoc = _ReportDoc.ReportClientDocument;
          public string ReportFileName
             get
                return _ReportFileName;
          public ReportDocument ReportDoc
             get
                return _ReportDoc;
          public ISCDReportClientDocument ClientDoc
             get
                return _ClientDoc;
    But I get an "Unspecified error" on the line databaseController.AddTable(table, null);
    What am i doing wrong? Or is there another way to create a new report based on a DataSet in C# code?

    Hi,
    Have a look at the snippet code below written for version 9 that you might accommodate to CR 2008, it demonstrates how to create a report based on a DataSet programmatically.

  • Navigate to BI content. Report in different Subject Areas

    I have a requirement where I have to navigate to a detailed level report when I click on the column. When I place the reports in the same subject area it works absolutely fine. But according to the requirement the reports cannot be in the same subject area. So when I click on the column, all the filters on the dashboard prompts pass through the main report in SubArea1 to Detail Report in SubARea2 but the attribute value that clicked on does not pass through as a filter. I see all teh records at a detailed level and not just that attribute's records.
    We are trying to implement 'Navigate to BI content' Action link from one report to another.
    Both these reports are not in the same subject area (Presentation layer) though. How can be make OBIEE pass the appropriate filters to show only the needed subset of data in the second report.
    This is needed for our CL, PL and Agency details report. The dashboard is from one subject area, the detail report is from another subject area. We now want to pass what the user clicked in one to the other. Please note that the dashboard prompts would get passed correctly. It is only the 'attribute' on the left side that would not.

    All the columns whose values you want to pass to the detail report should be prompted in detail report and the column names should be same.
    For example
    If you are clicking on Period.Year column in master report then the detail report should have Period.Year column is prompted.
    Subject Areas may be different but the presentation table name and column name should be different.
    Thanks

  • Can the current subject area be determined?

    obiee 11G
    I would like to create a session variable that contains the users current subject area.
    Does anyone know if that is possible?

    On our system, any user can only be in one subject area at a time.
    We would like to set query limits based on the subject area. For example, someone using the Human Resources subject area would be allowed to have a query time limit of 5 minutes. Someone using the Finance subject area would have a query time limit of 3 minutes.
    (These are just hypothetical subject areas and time limits used for the example.)
    Usage tracking accesses that information somehow, but I cant use usage tracking because that is already too late.
    So if usage tracking can determine which subject area the user is accessing, I would like to know if it is possible for me to determine the subject area that the user is accessing.
    I just want to know if there is a way to populate a session variable with the users current subject area, so I can use the subject area to set the time limit.
    I already know how to set the query limit, I just need a way to determine the users current subject area.

  • How to limit data for a dimension in any subject area?

    Hi folks,
    I do have a little problem, maybe you can help me:
    I have a large subject area for all my countries and product i sell there.
    now i want to have special subject areas for certain countries.
    that for i ducplucated my large subject area, went to the identity manager and there I set special Rights für the users: I chose my fact measure and put a data filter for it on the dimension country.countryname = Germany.
    I hope you can fallow me until here. ;-)
    Now I can build a query in answers and it works, within this subject area I only get data for Germany.
    BUT: when I'm on the criteria tab and try to create a filter on my countryname (from the dimension) it shows me all the countries I have.
    I think for the end users this is a litte bit confusing.
    So how do I limit the dimension in this subject area to a particular value?
    I would be very happy for help, cause then I could finish my development for today ;-)
    Kind regards,
    Sven

    Try this; @BMM Fact source properties->Content tab->WHERE clause section add the dimension country.countryname = 'Germany'.
    Also set the implicit fact on the subject area.
    Let us know how it works

  • Swithcing Subject Areas

    Hi Experts,
    I want to use all the reports created for one Subject Area A for another Subject Area B as I am removing Subject Area A from repository. Is there any way to remove rework of creating all the reports again for SA B.
    Thanks
    Meera

    Ummm are you saying Subject Area A and B are basically the same hence you want to re-use the reports? Otherwise how do you expect reports with different attributes to work? If they are the same or similar and the same attributes exist then you should look into "Renaming A Subject Area" so that your reports get migrated to the new SA. Once you done that you can copy them to another installation where you din't rename the SA they they should point to the new SA.

  • Google Map Issue in OBIEE - Subject area not getting associated

    Hi Gurus,
    We are trying to integrate Google map and OBIEE via mapviewer. We have done the following already -
    1. Loaded World Sample data from Navteq.
    2. Configured mapviewer source and added Google map as a tile layer with the API KEY.
    3. Imported one layer (e.g. M_STATES_ABRV) in OBIEE and linked it with BI subject area (tried this step with importing other layers as well)
    4. Added background map.
    Now , in this step when we add the layer in the map, we select M_STATES_ABRV and change zoom levels. But Once we come back to main screen after Clicking OK, we see the background map is not associated with the subject area. Hence any map view report creation with this subject area fails.
    We have the tried the same theme with Oracle Maps (internal type like WORLD  MAP or DEMO MAP), it works fine. only Google Map gives this issue.
    This was not expected. Please suggest what we missed. We tried with cache clear, tile delete and recreation, service restart almost everything .
    We looked into other threads in this community, different oracle support documents - Doc ID 1485088.1,Doc ID 1346805.1 etc  and in different internet blogs -  where it's easy as child's play, but we are still out of luck.
    OBIEE version - 11.1.1.7.140527
    Environment- windows server 2008 R2
    Please suggest.
    Regards,
    Krish

    I have found the solution: You need to *select* zoom levels for the BI Layer.  When a BI Layer is added to a background map, by default no zoom layers are selected.  Once a zoom level is selected, the BI Layer will save.
