  • Which Subject Areas are Being Used?

I am afraid I know the answer to this, but am hoping someone out there has a solution. We have several subject areas in presentation services, several of which I imagine are not being used. Is there a report or query that can be run to see what subject areas are/aren’t used in reports?
    Thanks!

The blog is for identifying columns used in a report, but if you look at the screen shot, you can see that you can all look at the Subject Area as well...

  • Add values across multiple subject areas

    Hello Everyone,
This is a pressing issue i am facing at the moment. I am on OBIEE 11g latest version.
This is the scenario at hand.
There are several tables of which each connects to the same time dimension and a global customer dimension. There are several products such as deposits, loans, pawning, leases, etc.
For the time being, i have created separate subject areas for each of these products. And each subject area has an INCOME column.
The requirement is to get the total of all the income columns from all the subject areas so that that total can be used for other calculations.
The most probable solution from my R&D seems to be trying to add several subject areas for querying purposes. (Add / Remove Subject Areas option)
In the RPD, right clicked on the deposits subject area and clicked on the option "... star or snowflake schema". This created a copy of the subject area on the BMM and added it on to the presentation layer. Now in thr analysis, choosing deposits, i click on the Add / Remove Subject Areas. The option has the newly created copy of the subject area i already have.
My requirement is to add deposits and loans and pawning and etc.... What am i doing wrong here?
Also, is there any other method to approach the problem?

Let me try to describe the model as best as possible.
I am trying to calculate the profitability of each customer for two banks. These banks have deposits, loans, leases, etc. Each customer is identified by a global id. The global ID is a dimension table. Then there is a the time Dimension.
Bank A has it's own deposits and Bank B does too. A customer can/cannot have accounts in Bank A/Bank B/or Both Bank A and B. Similarly a customer can have a lease in either or both of the banks and this continues for other products.
Each Global ID is referenced to a Client ID. Each client ID can have several Internal Keys which are referenced to each account the customer might have.
For bank A > deposits, i have a fact table which connects to the Dim Time and Dim Global customer table. there are other dimension tables which connect to the same fact.
Similarly bank B > deposits has the same look and feel. Only thing is i connected the fact of bank b - deposits to the same Time and Global Customer table. So now there is a circular join. And this join gets really complicated when i add the fact tables of other categories such as leasing, pawning, etc. Since my goal is to calculate the total of profitability from each of these categories (deposits + loans + pawning +...), i tried to write a formula but i do get the error that "no fact exists"
For the time being i have created individual connections for each product. For example, deposits will have its own global customer and time and be connected to that particular fact. Similarly, pawning will have its own global customer and time (created alias tables for each of them). So right now i have the profitability of each customer on different categories.
What i want to do is get the total of profitability for an individual customer for all the product type the customer has, and use that for further specific formula calculations.

  • Add columns in the existing Customer table in a Subject Area

    Hi All,
Well I need to add two columns from Sales table(new table i created which has customer Id) and join it to the Customer Table which has the Customer Id and several columns. The Customer table was already in the RPD which has all the customer information. Now that i have this new requirement to add few columns from the Sales table to the Customer table in one Subject Area.
What i have done so far is that I imported the sales table into the rpd, made a join in PHYSICAL LAYER on the customer ID of the Sales table to the Customer id of the Customer table and simply dragged the sales table to the Customer LTS in the BMM layer(NO MORE JOINS IN BMM)and dragged and dropped the same into the Presentation layer. The customer table is linked to one fact table in that subject area. So i thought that dragging the sales table columns in the customer table LTS will work because customer is linked to one fact in that subject area.
Now, In the Answers when I dragged columns from customer & sales table I see only one record that is the first customer_id record from my Sales table but i know there are many common customer_ids between those two tables but its only picking the first customer id from the sales table.
    Any help will be appreciated..
Normally if we need to add some columns to the existing tables in one subject area what is the best approach??

Error connecting to the Oracle BI Server: The specified ODBC DSN is referencing
a subject area that no longer exists within the Oracle BI Repository.

Your Explanation about getting the error seems a little incomplete...
Whatever, RPD you are putting in the Catalog folder of OracleBIData Folder should also be your Default RPD if you are opting to see the Report in BI-Answers.
Whenever you go online the BIServer tracks the NQSConfig.ini file and checks for consistency. The same rpd must be there in the catalog folder with the ROOT attributes...
Also, check the DSN and Connection pool in the Physical Layer. If you are using Oracle Database check for the Service name entry in the TNSNAMES.ORA file..

  • Universe Design - one big one or several subject specific universes?

    Hello,
We are scoping out our BO universe design for an SFA/CRM solution.
Source data is Siebel CRM, combined with Sales data from third parties. Limited other data beyond that.
Should we build one big universe with all the subject areas in, or should be build several smaller universes, and ensure we can report across universes (Synchronisation?)
Also, does any one have experience of the siebel rapid marts?
    Ian

    Ian,
Please keep in mind that the limitation is one connection per universe. So, as long as the data from two sources is merged in one database, you can create one universe.
If it were a dimensional model then it would have been easier to create the universe. The relational schema universes can become complex, but it can definitely be done.
Based on the information you provided, I would say one universe should work. Please let me know if you have any specific questions about building the universe.

  • Add Subject Areas after production

We are implementing Oracle BI Apps for customer who initially requires only Financials Analytics. Now he want to add Procurement and Spend Analytics and Supply Chain Analytics. Anybody knows how to include new subject areas in a ETL extraction without doing a full load for the subject areas extracted before?

  • How to import Erwin V4.3 or Erwin V8 subject areas into Oracle Data Modler?

I have hundreds of Erwin data models. Many of them are broken up into subject areas to make them easier to maintain.
I have tried saving the files several different ways (XML and native Erwin formats) in both Erwin V4.3 and Erwin V8 and Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler does not seem to import the subject areas.
Is anybody aware of any steps to import the supject areas and included obects into Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler?
I am using Version 3.1.3.709 of Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler.
BTW: this does version not support Erwin 8.X yet. Any ideas when that will come out?
    Thanks
    Mark Wietelmann

I just found the answer, myself.
The Oracle tool handles this fine.
It was just buried further down in the tool hierarchy than I expected!

  • Sales stage history subject area

Hi - Can someone clarify the sales stage history data. It's just keeping track of everytime the sales stage changes right and when it changed? However, if the opportunity was transferred from one owner to another, it can only associate the record/change with the current owner correct? For example, if this was the sequence...
Stage 0 - changed by owner 1 to Stage 3
    owner changed to owner 2
Stage 2 - changed by owoner 2 to Stage 4
The report would say that owner 2 made both changes right?

    Hi-
You are correct that Sales Stage History does not track the user making the change. This subject area captures a pre-defined set of field values each time the sales stage changes and is most useful for doing deal flow analysis.
    Fields captured when stage changes:
    Stage Start Date
    Expected Revenue
    Forecast Flag
    Opportunity Close Date
    Revenue
    Probability
    Sales Stage
    Sales Status
There are also several metrics calculated for you:
    Days as Opportunity
    # of Days in Stage
    Avg Days in Stage
    Fallout
    Fallout Ratio
    Good luck!

  • Google Map Issue in OBIEE - Subject area not getting associated

    Hi Gurus,
We are trying to integrate Google map and OBIEE via mapviewer. We have done the following already -
    1. Loaded World Sample data from Navteq.
    2. Configured mapviewer source and added Google map as a tile layer with the API KEY.
    3. Imported one layer (e.g. M_STATES_ABRV) in OBIEE and linked it with BI subject area (tried this step with importing other layers as well)
    4. Added background map.
Now , in this step when we add the layer in the map, we select M_STATES_ABRV and change zoom levels. But Once we come back to main screen after Clicking OK, we see the background map is not associated with the subject area. Hence any map view report creation with this subject area fails.
We have the tried the same theme with Oracle Maps (internal type like WORLD  MAP or DEMO MAP), it works fine. only Google Map gives this issue.
This was not expected. Please suggest what we missed. We tried with cache clear, tile delete and recreation, service restart almost everything .
We looked into other threads in this community, different oracle support documents - Doc ID 1485088.1,Doc ID 1346805.1 etc  and in different internet blogs -  where it's easy as child's play, but we are still out of luck.
    OBIEE version - 11.1.1.7.140527
    Environment- windows server 2008 R2
    Please suggest.
    Regards,
    Krish

I have found the solution: You need to *select* zoom levels for the BI Layer.  When a BI Layer is added to a background map, by default no zoom layers are selected.  Once a zoom level is selected, the BI Layer will save.

    Hi Everybody,

Yes, i can see datatype and number of columns is same in both queries.
i have challanges to copy message but Error message seems to general. Error says (near to FROM) and I checked there are three FROM in query and all seems to be ok
Query is something like as below
    select SA1.col1 saw_0,
    SA1.col2 saw_1,
    SA2.col1 saw_2,
    SA2.col2 saw_3,
    FROM

    FULL OUTER JOIN

  • Report using colmns from 2 subject areas

    Hi,
I have to buld a report as below
    Product      ForecastRevenue(A)       ActualRevenue(B)       Variance
    A                200                                      100                           100
    B                200                                      200                            0
ForecastRevenue(A) comes from 1 subject area and ActualRevenue(B) comes from another subject area. Using these 2 columns from different subject area I have to create
a calculated column variance which is the difference of two columns. How can I create this report. Any idea?

    can be done in two ways;
    1. Using Union report
Create a union report with two request.
    Request1 -          product               Forecast_Revenue     Actual Revenue
    Col expression     "product.name"     "Fact.Revenue"         0
    Request2 -          product               Forecast_Revenue     Actual Revenue
    Col expression      "product.name"    0                             "Fact.ACTUAL_Revenue"
In the result tab create a pivote report and set the aggregation of fact column as sum.
Add a calculated column and write the expression as
    Farecast_Revenue - Actual_Revenue
    You are done.
    2. Use the advance tab in the report and write a custom SQL to join these two subject area.
    eg.
    select product, A.forecast_reveneu, B.Forecast_Reveneue, A.forecast_reveneu-B.Forecast_Reveneue
    from SA1 A join SA2 B on (A.product=B.PRODUCT)
    You are done.
    Best of Luck,

    Sohail,
Check out the catalogue manager reports :

If you want this kind of thing automated, I personally am very fond of the ODI -> OBIEE Data lineage solution as provided in Oracle By Example tutorials :
