Can i create an oblect directly on applet instead of panel what is the erro

Question

I am trying to create objects for applet instead of panel and this is giving error at compile time

lblAppName = new JLabel("Applicant Name");
txtAppId = new JTextField(50);
txtAppName = new JTextField(20);

btnCancel = new JButton("Cancel");
Applet.add(lblAppId); // error is cannot find symbol same for the rest 6 applet/
Applet.add(txtAppId);
Applet.add(lblAppName);

What explanation i got was this
JApplet() is an Toplevel Swing Container where atomic components cannot be placed .
So that is why we place the atomic components on the JFrame and then on the JApplet.
Is this right.
