Can i get my nano to synch with two different computers?

Hi
We are a multiple ipod family with itunes installed on four computers. Can we collect music from more than one computer? or do we need to fill up all the computers with the music files. Can I store music on a maxtor back up and get the ipod to go there to get music. Help. New to this.

And possibly this: Multiple iPods/iTunes Installations...

  • I can't get my ipod to synch with my conmuter or itunes.  But my kids are able to synch their ipods.

I can't get my ipod to synch with my computer or itunes.  I've checked the USB ports, my ipod is charged and my kids are able to get their ipods to synch.

Have you tried using a different known working USB cable? Are you plugging the iPod into a high powered USB 2.o port on the back of your PC?  What happens if you reset the device with it still connected to your PC? To do this, toggle the hold switch on and then off, then press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.
Otherwise, try removing all other USB devices (minus the keyboard and mouse if applicable) and reboot your PC. Then reconnect your iPod after opening iTunes.  Any luck there?
What happens if you connect it to another PC or Mac running iTunes. Is it recognized there?

  • Using a ipod with two different computers...

I just bought a new laptop and had to download itunes again but when i hook up my ipod it tells me that that ipod is already synced with another computer (my main desktop comp.). Is there a way to use my ipod with two different computers, or can you just use one computer at a time?
    thanks!
    Dell Inspiron 1505   Windows XP

You can use more than one computer, but you'll have to load your iPod MANUALLY if you do, otherwise it will keep erasing things to match the library it's hooked up to.

  • How can I get my iphone to synch with Outlook?  I do not want to use Icloud.

I am a realtor and have used Outlook for years, but am unable to get my iphone to synch with Outlook.  Does anyone have a solution?  I have been to the Apple store and have had more than one person working on it, to no avail.

Not sure what you've already tried, but sometimes you have to uninstall iTunes and all it's components as described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925, then reinstall iTunes.  (This would be necessary if the Outlook plugin is missing or corrupt.)  You won't loose your iTunes library or media by doing this.

  • How can I use the same "I Tunes" on two different computers

I’m using two different kinds of Personal Computer: One is Desktop PC And the other one is Notebook .
In each computer there are the same songs and when I get the new ones to the Desktop I want them to be placed on the Notebook or reverse.
Where does the I Tunes save the playlist on the hard drive ?
I have prepared a playlist on my Notebook and want it to be seen on the Desktop but I dont want to fallow the steps File > Library > Export Playlist on the Notebook. Is there any other way to make this issue instead of the mentioned steps.
How can I see the same Playlists and songs on two different computers ( notebook and desktop) including the updating processes.
    Operating systems of the computers:
    Desktop: XP Pro
    Notebook: Vista Bussiness

I use SyncToy 2.0 to keep two instances of my library in sync. SyncToy's preview will show which files it is about to update giving you a chance to spot unexpected changes and during the run only the changed files will be copied saving lots of time.
As long as I sync after making updates at one instance of the library before making any updates at the other then everything works just fine. I periodically run iTunes Folder Watch to check for any orphaned entries or new items that haven't been imported into the active library. If your machines are regularly networked together this process is fairly straightfoward. Mine are in disparate locations so I use one of the (physically) small WD My Passport host powered drives which I take between home & work, synchronising at either end. This gives me three complete copies of my library so I'm covering backup & synchronisation in the same operation.
When connecting my iPod at either location iTunes recognises itself as the "home" library for the iPod so I'm able to use the sync with selected playlists option without getting warning messages about the iPod being synced with a different library.

  • HT1364 I used these instructions to move my i-tunes library to the external hard drive that two different home pc's access. My playlists do not show on both Is it possible to have one i-pod synch amid two different computers that use the same library?

I have a sole i-pod and two pc's, used the instructions for "iTunes for Windows: Moving your iTunes Media folder" in the hope that I could synch my one i-pod between two different computers that are sharing the same library. Is it possible to have two seperate computers that only share an external hard drive (one wireless, one not) ? When I am looking at a shared library should it appear the same on both machines (ie: playlists/ purchased list etc)?

If it is moved correctly, playlists will display on both computers and it should be possible.
    Close iTunes.
    Hold <SHIFT> and launch iTunes.
When prompted to create a new or open an existing iTunes library point iTunes to the iTunesLibrary.itl file on the external drive.
The entire library should now show up with all playlists and playcounts.
    Do this on both computers.
Keep in mind that only one computer can access iTunes at a time, otherwise errors will occur when each computer attempts to write to or update the iTunesLibrary.itl file.
Syncing may work seemlessly with both computers, but honestly syncing is designed to work with one and only one computer.

  • How can I edit a PE 12 project on two different computers?

I just installed Premiere Elements 12 on my Macbook Pro.  I created a test project with several video clips.  I then saved the project to an external drive to /Volumes/Media Library/Premiere Elements Projects.  I then configured all scratch disks to point to /Volumes/Media Library/Premiere Elements Projects as well.  I then used the Project Archiver utility to copy the project to this same directory.
I then installed PE on my iMac, and opened the project.  After opening the project on my iMac, it complains that it cannot find related media files.
How can I configure PE so I can open and edit a project on an external drive, from two different computers?
    -Thanks

I am PC-only, so there are probably several things that are specific to a Mac, that I do not know, but I do this on my laptop and workstation all the time - both PC's.
I set up an external HDD, so that it has the same drive letter in the OS of both computers. This is basically the same as the Mac Volume Name, but there are likely differences, that I do not know about.
Then, I create a folder structure for my Project, with sub-folders for all media assets. I then either Capture to those, or Copy my "stock Assets" from my NAS.
In PrE, I create New Project, in that Project folder structure, and then go to Edit>Preferences>Scratch Disks, and verify that all are set to Same As Project.
I edit on the laptop, until I need to migrate to the workstation. I plug in that external, turn it on, and it's seen as the same drive letter, as with my laptop. I open PrE, navigate to my Project folder on the external, and Open it - all media, and all Scratch Disk files are there, with the same exact Path.
Steve Grisetti, our MOD, uses both a PC and a Mac, so maybe he can talk about Volume Names, etc. on the Mac. I know that he does not migrate Projects to/from the PC and the Mac, as the PREL (Project) files are incompatible, but if he has two Macs, he'll be able to step you through Mac-specific issues.
    Good luck,

  • Can I sync apps to my ipad using two different computers + itunes

    Hey guys,
I'm having a bit of a problem. I have two computers (windows laptop + windows pc) which I use both for buying apps (my ipad isn't always connected to our internet), recently I bought an app on my pc and then when syncing it asked for me to 'Erase and sync'. So I did this and the app installed fine, but all my other apps were reset.
Is it possible to use two different computers to buy apps and sync with my ipad without having to erase and sync?

    Thanks for your reply,
Im a bit disapointed with this though, seems sort of impratical.. I dunno what to do now, what computer to stick with :/

  • Can't get ipod shuffle to synch with pc

Hi I am a new user and very virginal when it comes to technical stuff!!!! I have attached my iPod shuffle using the usb to the laptop but i keep getting a message that says i need to either load the cd or download ipod download updater from the apple website. I have done this but to no avail. My ipod will not synch with my pc. any clues on how to get started. Not only am i virginal but i am now frustrated!!!! Please help!!!!!

After you downloaded the itunes program, have you open up itunes by double clicking on the shortcut on your desktop? If you have, has the program opened up. Althought you have downloaded the program, it may not yet be installed in your computer, and you have to go thru that process to actually have it work on your computer. If you have gone thru this process, what happenens when you have opened up itunes, and then you connect you ipod?

  • How to work on one project but with two different computers

    I'm editing a movie.
My computer might be overwhelmed with all the information - speed is slowed and it gets hot quickly.
I would like to use my second computer where I have cloud installed
to edit on the same timeline or in a different sequence to give my
    main computer a rest.
    Is that possible?
    Thank you for your help!

As well as the reply from Anish about using your program on 2 computers, you need to ask in the program forum for how to best use the programs to do what you want

  • Using iPhoto with two different computers AND version

I have 2 macs at my home (laptop and desktop). I have iPhoto 08 on the desktop and iPhoto 09 on my laptop. One day, I accessed my iPhoto library located on my desktop from my laptop via network sharing. I skimmed through the warning messages about the opposing iPhoto versions and was able to view my complete iPhoto library on my laptop. In the process, I now receive the "This library has been modified by a newer version of iPhoto." error on my iPhoto 08 on the desktop. How can I reverse this, so my library is 100% back to normal? It is scaring my mom who uses the desktop for photos.

That is correct - that is what the warning you skimmed through and agreed to go ahead anyway was all about

    Load a backup
It is scaring my mom who uses the desktop for photos.
Nothing to be scared of - your library is safe
but to use it you must restore a backup from before you upgraded the library
Or purchase iLife '09 and load it (with the required OS upgrade if you are not using 10.5.6 or above on that system) on the old system.
Or you can start over and create a new library from the original photos

PS in the future when warned that an operation will modify something and can not be reversed it would be good to stop and fully consider what you are doing prior to proceeding

  • Using an external drive with two different computers

(Very new to this) I have a laptop (windows vista) and a desktop (windows xp)and an external drive. I can download songs from cds usings both computers to my itunes library on the external drive. However I cannot access the songs I downloaded using the laptop while on the desktop and visa-versa. I thought that by downloading songs to the external drive I would be able to access them regardless of what component I use. Please help.

You'd have to use the same exact iTunes library file.itl for each PC.
Put the itl file on the external drive, and make sure the exHD is always seen by the operating system before starting iTunes. Also make sure it is always the same drive letter on both Vista and XP.
Then always use the library file on the exHD.
If the exHD isn't plugged in, iTunes will revert to the library fileon the PC's C: drive.

  • Using library with two different computers

Hello, I have a macbook and an Imac, both core 2 duo. I have my Itunes library on my Imac, and I was wondering if I could share the library wirelessly with the macbook without copying the library to the macbook because I don't have the space on the hard disk.

if you dont care about artwork, itunes, preferences, sharing, click share my library on host machine that has all your data.....look for shared libraries on the client machine
